BEC Photos

Butte Environmental Council’s (BEC) Second Annual Nature Photography Show and Benefit is this Saturday, April 21. Click and zoom on the image above to view the invite.

The event will feature nine local nature photographers who are donating proceeds of their photography sales to BEC.

The photographers are an incredible bunch, except for Gregg Payne. His work is crap. Okay, I know Payne can take a joke.

Definitely check them out.

You can RSVP by calling BEC at 530-891-6424 or send an email to Maggi at maggib@becnet.org. You can also give to BEC online.

Today's Scrabble word is eddo, a tropical plant.

Hey Dan,

Thanks for helping to get the word out. The new poster headline slogan is:

"Think Globally, Buy Art Locally!"

My favorite Earth goddesses at BEC have worked hard for weeks to make this happen and also getting everything ready for the Endangered Species Faire at the same time. Whew! Their generosity to give a huge percentage of the proceeds to the artists that provide the work is very commendable and smart business too. Better artists participate and show their better work. Way to go, Tempra, Jennifer, Maggie, Barbara and Trish!

Last Spring I was at a memorial celebration in Taylorsville for Philip Hyde. He was the primary photographer for the Sierra Club and student of Ansel Adams. He and his work is credited with bringing conservation to the forefront of American awareness more than any other single person, in "a picture's worth a thousand words" kind of way.

To me, being out there is worth a thousand pictures.
He's also an inspiration for me to do less talking and do more art. (by popular demand :)

Dan

Thanks so much for blogging our event.

I had the privilege of meeting Ansel Adams in the 60's. His work has always been an inspiration for me as I tried to capture the essence of Mount Shasta, Lassen Peak and the park.

He told me he kept only one negative from a Lassen Park shoot. His magnificent shot of the Peak is featured in a Sunset book, National Parks of the West. It led me to make the Lassen Peak from the Devasted Area photograph I will be showing at the BEC event.

Best--Jim Gregg
