John Doolittle

Last fall Democrat Charlie Brown made Congressman John Doolittle sweat a little in his re-election bid.

Ultimately, Doolittle won but it's likely Brown will challenge him again in 2008.

Doolittle is hosting several town hall meetings this month, including one in Oroville on Friday, April 13 from 3-4 pm at the Southside Oroville Community Center on 2959 Lower Wyandotte Ave.

While the above video is only a montage, I watched the debate live online in its entirety from start to finish. I can honestly say that this video captures Doolittle's whiny debate tone.

I was amazed at Doolittle's ability to weave boilerplate partisan rhetoric into almost every comment. I suspect his town hall meeting might be toned down since he's not debating another candidate.

Instead, he's supposedly having a conversation with citizens.

I hope Doolittle continues to meet constituents face-to-face instead of relying on telephone town halls like Congressman Wally Herger.

And thankfully, he finally decided after the 2006 election that it was not appropriate for his wife to take a 15% commission fee on every campaign dollar she helped raise for his campaign.

Today's Scrabble word is sward, or to cover with turf.
