What can I say?
I’m a sucker for promoting any events that involve good food, as opposed to events that promote cryptosporidium.
The first weekend in August offers you two opportunities to enjoy incredibly tasty food.
The Slow Food Shasta Cascade group has organized “A Slow Country Boil” with local red claw lobster crayfish at 6 pm on Saturday, Aug. 5 in Red Bluff.
You need to RSVP. You can find information on reservations and directions at the Slow Food Shasta Cascade website.
What’s a slow country boil? According to organizers, a slow country boil is:
”A fun and casual hands on eating experience native to a relatively small coastal region from Charleston, South Carolina to Savannah, Georgia that has a distinct mix of cultures and traditions including that of Africa and the Gullahs who were brought to our country in the 1700's.
Someone needs to call and invite developer and Hotel Diamond owner Wayne Cook. I believe Cook used to live in and own many properties in Charlestown and/or Savannah so I’m sure he’d appreciate a slow country boil.
And from what I hear, Cook has his own slow country boil regarding the Thursday Night Market.
Cook has become more vocal with his complaints about the Thursday Night Market’s impact on his downtown hotel business. We’ll see if this boil will reach the City Council.
And on Sunday, Aug. 5 from 7-10 pm, Food & Water Watch and Sustainable Table are hosting the local The Eat Well Guided Tour at Chico Women's Club on 592 E. 3rd Street.
This event will feature dessert wines and local pies catered by David Guzzetti and other locals. There’s a suggested donation of $5-50, which will go to support the the local Chico Grange Hall revitalization effort.
The event will also feature The Meatrix movies, along with Diane Hatz, Executive Director of Sustainable Table and producer of The Meatrix, and Earl Bloor and Candace Byrne , the publishers of Edible Shasta-Butte magazine.
