Electric Railroad
Supposedly this is the first trial run of the Butte County Electric Railroad in Dec. 27, 1904.

The trolley car is about 27 feet in length, or only one and a half times longer than the largest of Ford's knuckle-dragging, sedan-squishing behemoths, the Excursion. Do we need any further evidence that our ancestors were smarter than we are?
If we are to survive peak oil, we'd better start screaming for a return to trolleys and light rail.
One day in the not-too-distant future, the Hwy. 149 $130 million overpasses will be seen for what they really are: the last local gasp of the cheap-oil age. I suppose the overpasses will offer a nice view of the valley to those willing to bike out there. After all, they won't see much auto traffic when gas hits $6 or $7 a gallon.

not to be confused with "sniglet" or words that should be in the dictionary but aren't.

Chuckles, it's "pie-in-the-sky" at this point but what do you think about a trolley running from Meriam Park, down East 20th to Park, then north on Park through downtown, possibly all the way to Enloe.

Greg - Fine by me!!
On a related note, I thought it was terribly shortsighted for the City to rip up the train tracks that ran north-south through Chico, from Park to the airport. I recall there was an effort to find funding for a north-south trolley, but there was (and still is) little or no money for alternative transportation.
Of course, it's great that the rails were converted to bike paths, but I'd rather have the trolley.
