Very Unhealthy
It's no surprise that the Butte County Air Quality Management District and Butte County Department Of Public Health issued a joint alert today.
According to the alert:
"Yesterday Butte County exceeded the federal health-based average 24-hour Ambient Air Quality Standard of 35 micro grams per cubic meter (ug/m3) for fine particulate matter (PM2.5)...Today the Air Quality Index is forecast to reach 205. At this level the air quality is rated VERY UNHEALTHY for all people; these conditions are expected to continue until the fires are extinguished."
I guess this is a good excuse to stay inside. Or maybe a good reason to break out that fashionable summer mask you've been wanting to show off outside to your friends.
Today's Scrabble word is cerite, a mineral.

There's an amazing satellite composite shot of yesterday's northern California fires and smoke here.

Here's an updated photo from Tuesday, showing the smoke from all fires dumping into the valley.

In areas surrounding the fires it is particularly horrific. Krista and I were at the Spring Valley Shelter until 1:30 AM on Monday night. The winds changed on the Concow fire so that it was particularly bad.
So while the 2.5PM rating for the County is not good, if you are near a fire it is really bad. GEARS cancelled it's annual Field Day due to the fires as well as the smoke.
Cough cough....have a good day.
