The Bad Girls of Butte County
![]() |
| As a strong supporter of feminism I was happy to see
the Butte's Most Wanted section in the February
2nd issue of the E-R.
All of the fugitives named were members of the fairer sex. The print edition
had some pretty flattering photos of these fine flowers of femininity,
and so I did a little web work to provide them here (in color no less). Rhiannon Ann Langlois, Alberta Lynn Hanson, Lola May Bessey, Angela Marie Ullman, and Schana Lee Montgomery, were wanted for things ranging from fraud and identity theft to more physically demanding crimes like elder abuse. Unfortunately, Rhiannon has already been captured, so I don't think we can say that our Norcal gals are any more wily than our Norcal guys. I just wanted to acknowledge these ladies for the hard work they put in, and the steps taken towards breaking through the glass basement. I'm hoping one day we can have more equitable public spending when incarcerating women in relation to men. We spend way too much money on men and it just doesn't seem fair. We should do for the penal system what Title 9 did for women's sports. You go girls! |

I just chimed in to tell you I saw a bald eagle flying over my house yesterday - I wish I'd never seen this post. I wanted to tell myself it's just your incredible wit, outrageous sarcasm, but it's just so nasty and mean, I can't believe it.
I think it was the second to the last paragraph that really put the cherry on top - have you ever seen the women's jail? Remember, these gals have not been convicted - on Adam 12 and Dragnet, they told us we were presumed innocent until proven guilty. What they didn't tell us is, 1)we can be held up to 72 hours on some pig's "discretion" without ever being charged 2) we can be held indefinitely, without being tried or convicted 3) if you post bail, you never get your money back, even if you are not convicted 4)the system sucks, and once you get in it, good luck getting out, ever.
This is the ugliest, cheapest thing you've ever run. I can't believe you'd get cheap laughs at these womens' expense. I think Spock's mother would knock that righteous little smirk right off your face, Girl.
We just watched "Brazil" with our kids, maybe you should give it a look.

Juanita,
Thanks for the post, I'm sure I'll disappoint you again some time.
You're right that these women haven't been convicted of the crimes they are wanted for (as far as I know). I made it pretty clear that they were wanted fugitives.
The felony warrants issued for their arrest are probably what caused them to be posted on the fugitive web site operated by local police agencies. I assume that's also why the E-R sent the ladies names, photos, and crimes they are wanted for out on 30,000 printed newspapers on 2-2 (not to mention the circulation of the other papers that carry this information).
As for my part I simply found it unique that all of Butte's Most Wanted listed in the paper were women. The post was also a way of pointing out that men and women are still treated very differently in one body of public policy (the penal system). I was being sarcastic when I thanked them for the "hard work they put in to break through the glass basement".
I think way too many people are put in jail for things like drug crimes (BTW none of these ladies were wanted for drug crimes), and I support legalization of pot for that reason. Plus it's not a gateway drug any more than beer is.
I think you can blame the legistlature and some union activity for the growth rate of our penal system. I would prefer less laws and fewer incarcerations to what we have now. Prisons are nothing more than institutions of criminal higher education.

from now on I will call you Jack Lint, after the Michael Palin character in Brazil.
you never disappoint me Jack - that would insinuate that I have some sort of high expectations for you.

Couldn't I be the leader of the "Knights Who Say Ni" also played by Palin (MP - Holy Grail)?

people who abuse the elderly deserve more than all they get. I can't believe how widespread elder abuse, especially financial is in our country and several others especially by family members. It makes me sick!

Carol,
I agree. Taking advantage of the elderly financially one of the lowest forms of robbery.
I also think social barriers between the young, middle aged, and elderly prevent people from forming respectful attachments that need to exist. Those barriers are reinforced by popular culture, particularly in the entertainment industry.
