| Note to readers: The CI Super Challenge was an interactive blog, and was updated as people made guesses for the challenge. If you didn't take part in the challenge, it won't make much sense to you...sorry. I figured I'd try something different today. If it's fun I might do it more often. The image above is the CI Super Challenge. If I did my work right each image above can be used as clues to solve the super challenge. When you guess what an image is please include the image number. As each image is correctly guessed I'll update the body of this post so people don't have to read through the comments to find the answers that have come in. For example if I had images of a bow, a bag of gold, and a sherrif, those clues might be a reference to Robin Hood. If other images were included such as a pirate ship, that might lead you to Eroll Flynn, who starred in Robin Hood locally. And if there were a picture of the Virgin Mary and a school book the answer could be Mary Flynn. The clues aren't in sequence and the nine images above create 3 clues (pretty much three images per clue) to what the super challenge is. Good luck. #1: a wild pig - Anthony Watts #2: frying pan - Mark Sorensen #3: flip flops, a loose fitting shoe - Tom Hall #4: wick in an oil lamp - Mark Sorensen #5: Paul Bunyan, a woodsman - Tom Hall #6: film canisters - Tom Hall #7: sedge - Mark Bohn, Mark Sorensen #8: door lock, used for closing - Tom Hall #9: a wedding dress - Sean Baber Images 1,2, and 3 (wild pig, frying pan, flip-flop a loose fitting shoe) constitute a clue - Answer: Kevin Bacon - Dave Brobst Images 4,7, and 8 (a wick, sedge, door lock used for closing) constitute a clue - Answer: Kyra Sedgewick - Dave Brobst Images 5,6, and 9 (Paul Bunyan a woodsman, film canister, a wedding dress) constitute a clue - Answer: The Woodsman - Dave Brobst Winner and Answer: And the first annual CI Super Challenge has been completed with Dave Brobst coming up with all the super clues. The correct answer was "The Woodsman", a movie with a not so nice story line of a molester who falls in love. And I'd like to thank Gavin Claridge who received a maximum sentence of 21 years in prison for molestation, and was the topic of the first E-R story I read today, for the inspiration. Goodbye Gavin, don't come back. |

Lon,
Unless the descriptions need to be more specific, I believe #5 is Paul Bunyan, #4 is a candle or bomb made out of a light bulb, #6 is a picture of film canisters, and #1 is a tree knot. Number 8 is a door lock, #7 is a weed, #9 looks like some sort of roof flashing, #3 are flip flops and I don't have a clue on #2. OK, so what does this prove. I guess it proves I don't have enough to do in the morning.
Tom
I don't quite get this.
I'm guessing though this has something to do with things you can see or do in Bidwell Park or in the Chico Park system, or maybe just Chico itself. It also might be your upcoming yard sale as you make room for the new baby,
For example, 7 could be an elderberry bush.
5 could be giant nordic lumberjack Gregg Payne getting ready to clear out a few trees for a new disc golf course.
9 looks like the bark of a Palm Tree.
6 could be the showing of Robin Hood
3 seems too obvious as flip flops, so there must be something else. Maybe they belong to Josephine and you aren't giving them back.
I dunno, the whole thing is confusing.
Anthony,
Together the images represent a number of clues to a specific thing.
There are three clues tied up in the 9 images. Together those three clues reference a thing that is not local (that's a hint, and I don't to throw anyone off with my previous example).
In some of the clues the easily noticed item pictured is the clue. For example, the flip flops are nothing more than the loose fitting shoe of that name.
Lon
eh, too much work, my brain hurts already from the smoke and haze covering the town.
#1 looks like a wolf.
#9 A woman's mid-rif, perhaps a bodice.
Anthony,
Quitter!
Sean#5,
Non-Quitter!
It #1 is an animal, but not a wolf. And #9 is a woman's midriff but that's not what I'm looking for.
Lon
OK, is #2 a barrel of oil?
#9: Looks like a close up of a victorian era womans dress at the waist line
Alright then, how about wedding gown for #9?
Tom,
#2 is not a barrel of oil. Although you might use a type of oil with it.
Mark B.,
I very much enjoyed your letter to the editor today. #9 is a womans dress, but it is worn at a specific function and is still in use today.
Lon
Sean,
Yes #9 is a wedding dress.
Lon
Flip-flop, could it be Ms. Mason?
Sean,
Well it could be, but the clues do not reference a local thing. So it's not.
But when taken together 1,2, and 3 constitute one clue, and probably will lead into the others.
Lon
#7 could be a park.
#2 looks like a koozie for keeping a beer cold. Mmmm, beer.
Sean,
#2 not a beer koozy, but still pretty slick
#7 it's not a grass but is commonly found in marshes and is often called a grass.
Lon
1 looks like a goat head thorn. AKA: puncture vine, Tribulus terrestris.
2. Bottom end of an aluminum can.
4. Was a light bulb, though not sure what is sticking out of the electrical foot connector.
7. Pampus grass
I share the curiosity about where the heck you're going with this... Perhaps that new baby is keeping you up too much at night :- )
Hey Mark,
You may be right. Everyone at the office said this was too hard. Perhaps this is a failed experiment, or maybe I'm just years ahead of my time.
Here's some more clues, and restating some previous ones to get us on our way.
#1: is an animal
#2: is slick and you might use oil on it
#5: the thing sticking out of the electrical foot is the clue. It was a light bulb but no longer is, however it serves the same purpose
#7: not a grass, often grows in swamps, rymes with hedge
I've also added some descriptions to the correct guesses.
Lon
#2 Fram oil filter?
1. an actual live animal, or a wooden representation of one? Like a wooden horse.
2. Pan
5. Oil Lamp
7. Sedge
1) a wolf head
2) a frying pan
4) a light bulb bomb
Thanks lon, I wrote another one in reaction to yesterdays lawyer letter, but they couldn't publish it yet...
7) ornamental grass
#1 is a buffalo head or bison
7) lake sedge
Lake sedge is a very common sedge found in shallow marshes, shrub-carrs, alder thickets, wooded swamps, sedge meadows, and borders of lakes and streams. This persistent emergent forms scattered clones or beds.
eh, my head still hurts. Going to go home and stand in the shower. I suspect many people in town suffering from smoke inhalation making them less sharp than usual. Bad day to try grand thought experiment.
Try something simpler for the headachy amongst us, like "guess this color". I'll probably still get it wrong.
Anthony: You rest we'll take it from here.
Mark B.: You picked up sedge, good job. So did Mark S. I'm going to call you guys Marky Mark from now on. Okay, I won't do that.
Mark S.: #1 is a real animal, and you got the lamp, although the wick is the clue. You got sedge and wick.
Steve B.: it's an animal head, but not the ones you mentioned. Let me know if you and/or Rick want to add some comments about the DG courses you're working on to a disc golf email. I'm sending out a newsletter in the next few days, it would be cool to let people know what you're accomplishing. and I've asked Chip to send me the low-down for O-town to include in it.
Lon
1) grey fox
Mark,
It's a much less exciting animal.
Lon
Cleared my head in the shower.
#1 wild boar or pig, or maybe coyote
Anthony,
Very good, it's a wild pig. Now for the super clues, and then the final answer to the challenge. That is if you're not all exhausted from the effort so far.
Images 1,2, and 3 (wild pig, frying pan, flip-flop a loose fitting shoe) constitute a clue -
Images 4,7, and 8 (a wick, sedge, door lock used for closing) constitute a clue -
Images 5,6, and 9 (Paul Bunyan a woodsman, film canister, a wedding dress) constitute a clue -
Lon
Clues 4,7,8 -- TV show, "The Closer" starring Kyra Sedgewick.
Clues 1,2, 4: The movie "Footloose" starring Keving Bacon.
Dave,
Super Clue from Super Dave, that clue is Kyra Sedgewick, who is in the closer.
Lon
And to complete the trifecta: Clues 5,6,9: The movie "The Woodsman" starring Kevin Bacon AND Kyra Sedgewick who are married in real life.
Dave,
You're on "fryer". Super Clue number one is Kevin Bacon, who starred in Footloose.
Lon
Dave,
And building on the hard work of others, like all winners do, you've won the challenge. The answer to the CI Super Challenge was "The Woodsman".
