Drive Your Car To Work Week

dukeboys.jpg
Image: If you drive to work like this you get extra credit.

I'm sure a lot of you remember that I like to ride my bike to work. Last week I managed to not take my car out of the garage at all, at least as far as getting to work goes. That was nice.

But I noticed a few things this week. First, it seems like fewer people are parking around my office. Are the students gone? I also received an email from someone at the city pointing out the program the city has for local businesses who take part in bike week. There have also been a lot of stories in the E-R about biking, and alternative cars, etc. The excessive amounts of parking, press accounts, and extreme desire to support bike week at the city has really left me with just one option.

I declare this the first official Drive Your Car To Work Week. Here are some of the reasons to drive your car to work this week.

1. The roads are less crowded allowing for rapid lane changes without signaling.
2. The city depends on sales tax income from auto sales to pay its employees, so driving and wearing out your car so a new one is needed helps with the budget problem.
3. The asphalt union is guaranteed more work in the future.
4. Driving prevents Chico from looking like a 3rd world country crawling with cyclists and water buffalo.
5. It is easier to carry a Big Gulp in your car.
6. Road rage from a cyclist is hardly worrying, but when a mom of 3 flips someone off from her 10,000lb Escalade that's a credible threat.
7. If we don't use the roads someone will tear them out and replace them with high density new urban housing to make our neighborhoods more walkable.
8. Bike helmets make people look like stick figure drawings.
9. A car never gets a flat from goatheads.
10. It's going to be 100 degrees this week and your bike doesn't have air conditioning. If you haven't been biking before this week the weather might kill you.

Hmmm... good guess but not quite right. Did you notice on the photo that you linked that there is duct tape holding the car together? That's some serious body work.

It looks like the fins of an F/A 18 Hornet painted in patriotic scheme.

While searching, I did stumble across this rocket car from Euclid Beach

and here is a video

That's what we need instead of the B-Line

Thank god the video didn't show the rocket car driving into a tunnel.

Anthony, It's the confederate flag... on something...

Posted by: Gregg at May 13, 2008 10:39 AM

No confederate flag... although if you put both your posts together...

I'm not sure I've got the guts to follow a link to hoehandle.com, even if the image is for "rebel flag bikini".

I drove a car like that ONCE. Unfortunately, I didn't clear the canal and came to an abrupt stop. Guess I could have used the Gen. Lee on that occasion.

I keep finding stuff:

I think the CIC is Evel Knievels's Rocket car, which is part of the reason he was reduced to an electric scooter at the end.

Yah, Evel Knievel's rocket car, here it is:

Sean,

Fly to work week is coming up isn't it? I never got airborne but I did put a '71 mustang in a drainage ditch, which is kind like a canal.

Anthony,

Way to go. And even better than linking to Evel's rocket car picture (which was the challenge) is the link to Evel on the Rascal-like scooter.

I can picture the Seinfeld episode where the George gets into a high-speed scooter pursuit. I think the scooter was called the "Lark".

This is what I get.

First I posted a believable possibility to throw off the faint of heart.

Then I try to send Anthony off on a confederate flag wild goose chase.

Then I discombobulate whoever was left with the rebel bikini girl.

I looked right at that picture of Evel and didn't catch it when I was looking for Craig Breedloves Spirit of America land speed record rocket car.

Dang, that's karma for you.

God Bless Evel Knievel. When I was looking for a husband, I used Evel and Capt Kirk as role models, BINGO! Found Andy. He's the spit and image. Maybe you could make me a little picture Lon, what would happen if Evel and Capt K had a baby?

I got a hot pink frisbee, uh, disc, for MoDay. We had services on 32 and then we jammed it for Lassen.

The road isn't open to the summit, yet, so we spent the day at Diamond Peak. We realized last year, the rock we hike to is not the diamond, but everything's different up there, it is hard to tell.

It takes about 20-30 minutes to hike up that face, it gets so vertical you have to take your board in front of you and use it like a paddle. Man, the next day, my stomach felt like a did 1000 sit-ups, too bad it doesn't look that way!

At the top, it looks like Cat Woman's headquarters, everything is slanted, the trees look crooked, not sure what's straight up there. When you stand up, you have snow against your back. You can just sink your boot heels into the snow and lean against the mountain. And the world is your oyster shell, wowsers. But sheesh, the pollution over the valley. Stop driving your cars people!

It takes about 30 seconds to get down, but it's fun, especially if you are wearing a pair of shorts cause you forgot to put your snowpants in the car last night. There's a pretty natural run, but of course, there's trees. The snow gets a little sticky this time of year, but it was fine.

So my son made a movie with his little camera - it's really cool, the sound of the snow on the board makes a groovy soundtrack. At one point he passes me and my husband, and you get a really good demonstration of the Doppler Effect.

I'll send it to you when he downloads it for me - it's really neat-o.

I hope your Missus had a wonderful day - ta ta for now.
