| Image: Jessica Alba and Brad Pitt came
up to play disc golf last weekend. Tonight the City Council will vote to remove or improve the disc golf courses off of highway 32. A lot of people played this weekend knowing that it could be the last chance to use the park. Celebrities Jessica Alba and Brad Pitt were sighted on the course, and rumor has it they'll be at the council meeting tonight. They'll only come out of their disguises if people attend and support disc golf. So if you want to meet Jessica Alba or Brad Pitt you have to show up at 6:30PM or earlier, fill out a speaker card, and ask the council to keep disc golf in our park system. Everyone that does that will get an invite to a Malibu beach party. I promise. |

I had no idea that Jessica Alba was a fan of the Dead. I'll have to tell tell my wife I am JUST going for disc golf now. . . . :)
Brad might be disappointed if you don't bring your wife along.
I heard Spongebob Squarepants is also coming, for the kids.

As you can tell from the following question, I haven't been following the disc golf issue closely but I do have a teensy-weensy stake in the Council's decision, so I'm going to ask it. Do all the options (except Restoration) involve improving, and by that I mean expanding, the existing parking?
On two occasions I've almost gone into cardiac arrest driving home past the disc golf course because people park across the street from the course instead of in the parking lot, then cross HWY 32 to get to the course. On one occasion I almost hit a dog that was accompanying a couple of disc golfers across the highway. On another occasion, a young woman was attempting to climb the embankment next to Hwy 32 to access the course. She fell backwards, and, although she didn't fall into the driving lane, and I wouldn't have hit her unless she rolled a few feet, it still makes me think these particular access points should be eliminated, and that all golfers must park in a designated area and access the area from the course-side of Hwy 32.
Cathy,
All options, including restoration, include improved access and parking. The problem with the parking area off of highway 32 is twofold.
1. Location - The official start of the beginner course is located across from the shoulder at 32 that people park at. This makes the shortest route between the beginner course and parking the area that you're talking about. I can't believe that people park there at all. But I know people that do.
In options A and B the start of the beginner course is moved to an area further south, where the advanced course entrance would be. And all parking is on city property. Option C removes the beginner course altogether, and so no disc golf would occur along most of the ridgetop adjacent to highway 32.
2. Condition - The current parking is along a caltrans road. This road is accessed via a small driveway south of the shoulder people park on. The road portion that extends from the driveway to the beginning of the beginner course is heavily rutted. I think many people use the highway 32 shoulder as a parking area to keep from damaging their cars and to avoid walking a few hundred feet from level parking to the start of the short course.
All of these problems go away when the access point is improved, assuming the city creates enough parking to meet demand.

I will go to the meeting if you can get Carrot-top there....

Brian,
All right. I checked with his agent, and Carrot Top's in. Did you know he's all buff now! I assume you did and that's why you wanted him to attend.
Any other requests?

Keg of Sierra Best Bitter?
B
Keg of Sierra Best Bitter?
If you show up, and disc golf is approved, I will have a keg party. Sierra Nevada for sure, maybe not Best Bitter, but we'll see.
Lon
Lon -- You provide the location I'll provide the keg. Best Bitter, whatever. . . .
And YES -- as much as I like the feeling of four wheeling in a Honda Civic it is going to be great to get a more suitable parking lot up there. Even if you go for the view (rather than a round) improving the access up there will be great for everyone. Of course while you are enjoying the view try throwing a disc . . . .
On behalf of the rational segment of our community, I apologize.
The rest have no shame.
