You Can Fight City Hall
![]() |
| Image: A book I wouldn't mind having right now. The last few days have been pretty hectic. I've had a ton of phone calls from people I don't know wanting to be involved in the referendum. There are now more than 100 volunteers from inside and outside of the disc golf community. I've been getting advice from people of all political leanings, and support from the same, to move forward with the referendum. It is going to take a heroic effort from a lot of people to get a referendum certified, and so from time-to-time I'm going to list the CI heroes. I have to say, there are probably a dozen people that in my mind have already won hero status. But the first two are below. Here are some of the comments I've received. I am a Chico native and believe disc golf is a recreational and cultural backbone of this city. It is a healthy, low-impact recreational activity. Please respect those who play it and their right to enjoy their sport and the park as so many others do. I'm pissed! My whole family and I have been playing disc golf for years! We all would be more than willing to help get our game back! Let me know what info and help you need!!!! saving disc golf almost isn't enough... certain council members have proven themselves incompetent and need to be removed It seems to me that much like the Bush doctrine, the city council has failed to listen to the people it governs. Recall them! i have played frisbee golf since i was a kid, and as a supervisor for a group of developmentaly disabled people who love to play,i feel as though they are taking away from the community! I'm up for the referendum. I also think getting the FPPC to investigate the vote process is worthwhile. I really want disc golf to stay! I will do whatever it takes! I learned how to play disc golf at the Chico course about 2 years ago. Now I travel to other cities to check out their courses. I live for disc golf because its a fun, relaxing, and low cost activity that everyone can enjoy! I will do whatever to help!! And so a referendum it is. |
| Referendum information... web - http://www.restorediscgolf.com Facebook - Restore Disc Golf group Supporters of the Restore Disc Golf referendum should take the following steps while the petitions are being legally vetted. Action Items 1. Create a list of 50 people that will sign the petition in preparation for its availablilty. This may seem difficult, but friends, family, coworkers and neighbors can get you half way there. Ask these people if they know voters that would sign the referendum petition. 2. If you come into contact with specific population groups, such as being a CSUC or Butte College student, please let me know. If you work at, are a member of, or manage a community group or know people that do please let me know. 3. As always, if you haven't done so... Email the city council and ask them to reconsider their decision http://www.chico.ca.us/City_Council/Home_Page.asp Write a letter to the editor letters@chicoer.com chicoletters@newsreview.com |

Thanks Lon. Wow, a CI Hero! I'll have to put that on my resume. This is what I wrote to them before the meeting, for anyone interested. It seemed to be reasonable at the time.
Let's All Be Heros.
Dear City Council,
Approval of Option A with both courses does give the Council and Park. Dept. the most flexibility to manage everything. Then getting support for other sites will be much easier. The folks that don't want it up on Hwy. 32, as well as the people who now do, will both still want to find alternate additional sites in other areas closer to town. This will allow for less use and less impact as well as seasonal recovery and restoration up the hill. It will also provide a place to play at all times.
One great thing about the chain targets is that they are a one time expense and they are completely portable. Disc golfers will follow them like sheep. Once the City approves them, they can control wherever they want them to be, as they see fit, down the road.
Just think, the Park Dept, the Friends and the Disc Golfers will have a mutual interest to work together and we can all be heros.
I may even fall in love with a beautiful girl who worked for the Esplanade League and Butte Environmental Council, who's mom was the Conservation Chair for the Sierra Club. Oh, too late, I already did.
I really appreciate everyone's hard work on this,
Gregg

Wow, next time I see you you'll be hitched. I'm glad Jennifer decided to make you an honest man.

Hey, is there going to be a get together, and if so, do you need a place to meet? I could maybe do something here at my house. We could even bbq. yum!

Trevor,
Thanks for the offer. I think we're looking for a bigger venue. There will be a meeting or at least pick up times scheduled when the referendum petition is okayed.
I haven't sent out an email update since Saturday, but that's mostly because we're still covering the same ground.
Although I heard that T-shirts and yard signs are in production. Kind of cool.

Sweet. I'm sure my wife's stress level would be better off if there was a meetup somewhere else anyway =)
Just thought I'd offer. I'm going to be leaving town from wednesday to sunday, but it is T-day after all.

Congrats Gregg.
Maybe for your wedding, a ballad song could be created to play at the wedding based on "poles of destruction". It could become the new hit wedding song!
And maybe you could put a little disc golf target behind the bride and groom on the cake.

Looks promising, wish I was registered in Chico. Will help get the word out either way. Lets go disc golf!

I did a dance remix version of poles of destruction. I wonder where that is?
Here we go...
