| Image: Growth in Chico since 1991. TJ, Mark, and I have been discussing Chico as a retail hub in a previous entry. The Finance Director, Jennifer Hennessy, had stated that annexation would have caused a decline in per-capita sales tax growth between 2004-2008. I wasn't so sure, since I thought annexation had slowed during that time frame. Well, I finally decided to go find the information, and I ran across a report on the Lafco web site (see Growth and Population here). The result... well I was wrong. It looks like a large annexation occurred in '06-'07. I haven't had time to read the document linked above, but in a quick review it has a lot of good Chico information in it. Since I'm letting my daughter watch Diego before we ride our bike to work, I figured I'd post this information here. |

Good document link.
Thanks for turning me on to it.
Point of clarification from earlier post.
I should not have said that Jennifer is advocating for more large retailers as much as she is stating that Chico should maintain its regional retail hub dominance (not necessarily the same thing). After re-reading your posted documents I realize that I erred. Mea culpa.
