The City of Chico should complete THE EXPLANADE from Sixth Avenue to Lindo Channel

The portion of THE ESPLANADE between Sixth Avenue and Lindo Channel should be improved by installing landscaping, sidewalks and improved side-drives, just as they are in place south of Sixth Avenue. This would extend the beautification of THE EXPLANADE, recognizing this Boulevard because of its local and worldwide importance.

THE ESPLANADE has a very prominent place in the 2002 edition of "The Boulevard Book" by three outstanding authors from the University of California at Berkeley ( Allan B. Jacobs, Elizabeth Macdonald, and Yodan Rofe’). The "Book", of over 250 pages (with many graphics), outlines the details of the most famous Boulevards throughout the world, with THE ESPLANADE discussed in the introduction, the closing comments about worldwide great Boulevards, and an additional 10 pages about THE ESPLANADE, with many graphics.

Many of our local organizations, such as the Chamber of Commerce, the Downtown Chico Business Association and others, promote Chico for its University, Bidwell Park and the Bidwell Mansion, but with few if any comments about THE ESPLANADE. When promoting Chico, THE ESPLANADE should also be included, since it has a worldwide reputation and may attract visitors from throughout the world.
