Swedish Sub Sinks The USS Ronald Reagan (Video)

Hosted by imgur.comEver since WWII, America has been a dominant force upon the high seas. We have become so advanced in our military technology that the Soviet Union eventually collapsed, in large part because Ronald Reagan would not back down against them. In honor of his accomplishments and great leadership, congress named the worlds largest aircraft carrier after him, the USS Ronald Reagan

Thanks to Reagan, America has been able to set the standard for which other nations have wished to achieve. Well it has been 22 years since Reagan left office, and while we have been able to hold our status as the worlds most powerful military force the world has ever seen, those days could be coming to an end. Thanks in large part to the anti military sentiment that prevails in Washington, America is beginning to lose the battle of technological advancement.

What you will see in this video is a report about the Swedish submarine, NemoSaltadSobrius, which cannot be detected by our navy.  Even worse, this submarine has reportedly sunk our best and most powerful naval ships in mock war games. Check out this report
by Chuck Henry of channel 4 news out of San Diego.  Henry reports that the US Navy is attempting to figure out how to detect the Swedish submarine before our enemies can discover the secret of its elusiveness.

I am glad our navy is trying to figure out a way to detect this sub before a rogue nation like Iran or North Korea gets their hands on the technology for it.   However, it should be other countries trying to figure out how to stop us and our equipment, not the other way around.  Which brings me to the million dollar question, "Why are we even in this predicament"?

Well it begins with the fact that most Americans do not know that the US Constitution explicitly states that the number one job of the United States Government is to secure the borders of America.  That's right.  The founding fathers knew that it was incumbent upon the government to defend our interests on the high sees so that we have a fair chance of trade via the oceans and now through the air.

Too many Americans do know realize that the founding fathers never planned for the government to supply social spending for programs that would turn Americans into lazy unproductive citizens, who would constantly demand more of what they themselves are responsible for.  Most of all, they never expected the government they created to be giving away our rights and money to people who are living illegally within our borders. The governments should be defending our borders from all who would do us harm, not defending the rights of illegals over the rights of citizens of this country.

When a sizable portion of the citizens of any nation puts out their hands and demands more and more from other Americans, who are fed up with the high taxation just to accommodate them, will inevitably fall from within.  If we cannot stop the bleeding from within, then we will not have the funds needed to keep our military strong.  When that happens we will be unable to defend ourselves from the likes of China, Russia or any other rogue nation hellbent on destroying us.

When Ronald Reagan defeated Carter in 1980, he reversed the damage done by Jimmy and the liberals to the military.  However, after Clinton was elected in 1993, our military has continually taken a back seat to social spending.   Now that the Obama regime and his
Fascist friends in Congress have taken over 1/7 of the economy through their Health Care legislation, America's social spending dwarfs that of all the European countries combined.  d that of any other Socialist government in the world.

Like Johnson, Carter, and Clinton, Obama is now in the process of destroying  our military so that we will not be able to defend ourselves.  Thus ending our sovereignty, something the leftist have been wanting to see happen for almost a 100 years.
The proof of our failures are right before our eyes.  Now we just need patriotic leaders who not only recognize those failures, but are also ready to reverse the damage done by years of unconstitutional socialist spending that has left America vulnerable to attacks by our enemy's.

Then maybe we can get back to rebuilding the military by producing weapons that will defend our children and their grandchildren from the dictators and mad men of the future.

why do all the nutcases have to be reborn to California? Go back to Cheeseland, Cheesehead.

Welcome back OV,

This video reminds me of Clancy’s Red Storm rising when a US SSN is tracking a major Soviet task force ready to attack when it is a small Norweigan diesel-electric that gets the first punch in and the glory; the US SSN eventually bails the Scandinavian's out.

Good article, and considering all the talk about how the oil rig in the Gulf was destroyed it does make one wonder.

Why do we need to worry about how to detect the thing? After all Defense Secretary Robert Gates on Monday said,

"Do we really need 11 carrier strike groups for another 30 years when no other country has more than one? Any future plans must address these realities."

Check out the story that was put out yesterday on Yahoo News, US naval power threatened by new weapons: Gates. You are correct to worry about these idiots running the country.

Now as far as this Swedish sub is concerned, it is a good sub and the Swedes have been waging a covert ASW war with the Soviets for a long time so they have lots of experience and first hand knowledge. This is going to change how we deploy our Carrier Battle Groups. SSs with AI propulsion are too dangerous for CBGs to risk littoral areas.

One point. Our SSNs are cruisers, able to range the world at high speeds to attack targets. The Swedish SS is essentially a mobile minefield. And I bet its a one-way trip for them for into to CBG to take out the CVN. Our best option is to take out the these units on their way out of the harbor or while they are tied up to the docks - and we have that option.

This video and your article goes right along with my thoughts that America needs to change the way we do things in the military, especially the navy. The US Navy is the largest navy in the world, and on paper, certainly the most powerful. It is also unmistakably the most expensive navy the world has ever seen. Of that there is no doubt.

Now that the Russian navy is all but gone, and the Chinese Navy is still ascending, the American Navy remains the dominant sea power in the world. Yet, as this video proves, our heavyweight navy often has great difficulty handling the little guys. Indeed, if the US Navy were a boxer, one might say that his dominance is due mostly to his sheer size because he punches well below his massive weight. In this era of asymmetrical warfare, of David versus Goliath conflicts, perhaps it is time for America to rethink its naval strategy, lose some weight, and as sports announcers say, "focus more on the fundamentals."

For all the money America spends on its huge navy, it really needs to be much better. Edmund Burke once said, "A nation without the means of reform is without the means of survival." So, too, I would add, is a navy.

Thanks Robin,

Wasn't that Clancy novel made into a movie or maybe it was a mini series on television?

Tom, do you think we would actually use that option as a preventive measure against the likes of these types of subs before they actually hit us first? When you consider that the endurance for these small subs are limited, so it stands to reason that we would be better of attacking their shipyard with Tomahawk type missiles and we would get the majority of their sub force.

As I recall the Argentine Navy was operating their CV during the Falklands War, skirting the war zone? We'll likely do the same against any country that has a serious submarine capability. And they even sunk a British ship which caught the whole world by surprise.

I have read plenty of articles by some very knowledgeable military experts what have said for years that our fascination with bigger as always being better will eventually be our downfall.

Not sure I agree with it, but I must admit that the current war on terrorism shows how a very small sized enemy force can be a formidable foe for us.

Interesting. What gives you the impression I am a Cheesehead? After all my normal blogger name is One Vike, as in the Minnesota Vikings, or more appropriately Norwegian Viking like my ancestor the Norse Vikings.

However, a Cheesehead would be a person from Wisconsin that follows the Green Bay Packers. You know? The team that Aaron Charles Rodgers (born December 2, 1983 in Chico, California, U.S.) is the starting quarterback for in the NFL.

So while I am a native Minnesotan which makes me a Viking, local boy Aaron Rogers is a Cheesehead who now resides in Green Bay Wisconsin.

Anyway, thanks for leaving a comment, even if it has nothing to do with anything I wrote about.

If this is,in fact,a superior vessel we can rest assured that we'll be facing it soon enough because you just *know* that the Swedes will sell it to China, the USSR,Venezuela,North Korea...etc.

Don't expect them to be selling the subs or technology to any of our enemies anytime soon. Sweden has been a neutral power for over 100 years, and as close as they are to Russia they know what that country is like.

So no, Sweden is an Alie who will not stop being one anytime soon. However, if they ever stop being our Allie, then it's because we went over to the dark side, not them.

Considering the way Obama has been bowing down to the leaders of countries that harbor terrorists, I think we are a lot closer to going over to the dark side than we were before the Fascists office was elected.

I heard a while back (maybe last year or the year before) that the Indian Air Force kicked our Air Force’s tail in an exercise. When I read about the encounter months later in Aviation and Space Weekly, they laid out the way the exercise was constructed. I forget the exact details, but the numbers were hugely one-sided, and our forces could not use their long range AAMs nor some of their other systems.

The point is (and the same one you effectively made)that we weren’t asking them to line up to be our dinner. We were putting them in a position to exploit our weaknesses so we could learn.

I have been hearing that a lot from former military officers. They said that they were constantly forced to fight mock war games with huge disadvantages to force them into finding a way to win victory while being the underdog.

It was a mini series. I am a huge Tom Clancy fan.

Hey wasn't he going to buy the Minnesota Vikings before his wife filed for divorce. From what I remember the divorce proceedings locked up his finances so he had to bow out. That's when Red McCombs from San Antonio stepped up and bought them.

My husband is a big NFL fan and he know everything about the game and makes sure I do to.

that's what i thought. My in laws are big fans of his also. I like him but it has been a long time since had the patience to sit down with a novel to read. I try to catch the movies that are based upon his books, but even then I usually catch them when they come on TIVO. I really am not a big fan of going to the movies.

About Me: I am a born again Christian who enjoys talking religion and politics. I have always believed that it is the Christian's obligation to understand the workings of our government as well as they do the precepts of God. Jesus tells us to be "wise as serpents and harmless as doves". (Mark 10:16) So it is with this understanding that I approach life. I was born in the Midwest, and while I may have grown up in Northern Minnesota, I have earned my degree in knowledge and understanding from the many regions of America and Europe that I have either lived in or visited as an adult.
