In this video that was taken on September 8, 2010 near Newfolden, Minnesota, you will see a black bear approaching a tree stand while it's occupied by a human. As it turns out, deer season opens on September 18 in Minnesota. So it's my guess that the guy was setting up his dear stand in the anticipation of hunting season opening in 10 days when the bear came upon him. When the bear either sensed the smell of the man or noticed the easy access to the tree, it probably decided to investigate. It's a close call when you consider what a bear can do to a man. It all turns out OK though, because the bear is actually a bit startled when it realizes there's a human at the top of the ladder and decides to head back down and leave. After I found out about the coming deer season, it makes sense that the man did not have a gun. I am thinking he wished he had his gun with him, but we benefit from his bringing a video camera.

I can't imagine how I would of reacted. That man definately kept his cool. Bravo.
Well, if the info is correct on the youtube video, he couldn't have been hunting deer because deer season opened on Sept 18 this year. This video was taken on Sept 8, 2010 according to the youtube poster, and was posted on the 9th according to the youtube date.

He did didn't he. I must admit that I might have been trying to scare the bear away the moment he touched the first rung in the ladder. If I had a gun, I probably would have been emptying it into the critter the moment it was within two rungs,
Just me but I do not trust bears.
Thanks for the info. I found this video someplace else and they had no information. I checked You Tube and maybe I wasn't typing the right phrase in because I had no hits.
Any, I'll amend my post to reflect the YouTube info.
Thanks again.
