The President's misinterpretation of the results of his 2008 presidential election in conjunction with, or because of, his egocentric belief in himself has led to his decreased popularity and legislative failure thus far. Obama's inherent inability to understand the 'common' man has had a direct effect on his ability to govern. Obama and his administration wrongly assumed, based on the 2008 election returns, they had been given permission to govern as they pleased. Two years later, having accomplished little to nothing of a positive nature, they have yet to realize their error. Obama and his administration wrongly assumed the 'Obama' personality and presence would continue to carry the day as it did during his campaign. Again, they have yet to realize the Obama personality is not enough. The President's own response to the devastating loss in November is to deride the people for not understanding what he's trying to do, and to endeavor to make better speeches to get his point across, that being we must all work together while he refuses to do so. Obama and his administration assumed they could 'hit the ground running,' and by doing so could pass desired legislation while his administration was still new. Once again, they misjudged the sentiment of the people, the current congressional climate, and their own abilities.

As a psychology major, along with biology, chemistry, and music, I dug out my old college text books and reviewed a few of the standardized tests used to determine minor to severe personality disorders. Gleaning through hundreds of documented Obama quotes, televised and printed, and using this material to complete the tests, I came up with some interesting results. Taking each question from the standard, I then plodded through literally hundreds of documents and videos online in order to 'plug in' answers. In this way, I hoped to eliminate any bias on my part. I also excluded any document or video of an editorial nature, choosing to deal with only documented sources. The majority of the questions from the standard dealt with three areas almost exclusively. The ability to accept criticism, the ability to alter one's behavior, and the ability to process external data affecting one's own desires. I am not a Psychologist nor do I play one on TV.

Example: Analysis of speech pattern and use of descriptors relating to self, personal relationships, and non-personal relationships in general.

During the presidential campaign, Obama's pronoun of choice was almost exclusively 'We.' However, after his victory in the November, 2008 election, the pronoun, 'We' all but completely disappeared and was replaced with the first person 'I.' Reviewing twenty-eight recorded speeches given by Obama, four pronouns were common to all twenty-eight. 'You,' 'We,' 'They,' and 'I.' The pronoun 'I' was used 87% more often than the other three. One prime example: in the President's brief speech concerning the take-over of the General Motors Corporation he used the pronoun 'I' thirty-four times. Thirty-four times in a two-minute clip taken from the full body of the speech. During President Obama's speech before the International Olympic Committee seeking to bring the Olympic Games to Chicago, he used the pronoun 'I,' along with 'my,' 'we,' and 'us' referring to himself and his family twenty-nine times in a less than five-minute speech, and there are numerous other examples to choose in formulating this response.

Test Results: Definite issues with egotism, personality exhibits trends toward severe egocentricity and self-centeredness, an exaggerated sense of self-importance displayed through the excessive use of the first person singular pronoun, limited in outlook with ego and personal concern being the starting point in life philosophy. Inability to accept and/or process criticism, tendency to shift blame or consequence away from self, aloof, considering self to be above the constraints of acceptable interpersonal relationships. Pull out your Webster's and look up 'egotism,' 'egocentric,' and maybe even 'self-centered.' If the shoe fits.
