The Wonderful World of Dating: Conversations in Love
“Let’s run away and get married.” He said, only half joking.
“Las Vegas or Reno?” I asked him, hoping he would understand the idea was funny, not reality.
“Why did we never end up together?” He asked, his eyes full of the hurt he was going through. A nasty breakup, a need to be needed. He was searching for comfort in someone else that he was only going to find within.
“Oh honey, I don’t know. I guess when you wanted to be with me I wasn’t ready, and when I was ready, you were already taken. It just wasn’t meant to be. We make much better friends than lovers.”
“You know Meagan, you are my Corvette.”
“What?”
“Corvette’s are beautiful, and powerful, and every man wants one, but few men get to own one. You are my Corvette, and I guess I’ll have to learn to appreciate you from afar.”
“Huh?... Babe, you need to get a job writing lines for cheesy romantic comedies staring Cameron Diaz. That was too much!”
Where do men come up with this nonsense? I mean really? Really! Was I supposed to swoon and then fall into bed with him? Good thing I like this guy, because that was seriously a deal breaker.
Not even mentioning that being compared to a car is a little unflattering – and it’s the second time it’s happened this month! I do not sound like a car, I do not look like a car, I do not feel like a car, and I am definitely not as fast as a car. Couldn’t they have compared me to a flower, or a kitten, or something cute? He he he, I guess that’s why I love boys, they always keep me on my toes!
The Wonderful World of Dating: a semi-caustic look at dating in today’s world, given from the heart of a chronically single girl, appears right here at iconoclastic
As we grow up, we learn that even the one person that wasn’t supposed to ever let you down probably will. You will have your heart broken probably more than once and it’s harder every time. You’ll break hearts too, so remember how it felt when yours was broken. You’ll fight with your best friend. You’ll blame a new love for things an old one did. You’ll cry because time is passing too fast, and you’ll eventually lose someone you love. So take too many pictures, laugh too much, and love like you’ve never been hurt because every sixty seconds you spend upset is a minute of happiness you’ll never get back.
Don’t be afraid that your life will end, be afraid that it will never begin!
