Republican Hatefest

In the hatefest of fat old white guys called the Republican National Convention, once they removed their "America hats" and replaced the "Republican hats" that they've worn continuously for the last eight years, they nominated a woman for Vice President who is arguably to the right of Dick Cheney and a man for President who will pass the average life span of an American male in about two years. A seriously old guy and a seriously empty pant suit. I've gone from thinking that anything would be better than George W., to thinking that our country is going to be in even deeper doo-doo if these clowns get elected.

The only speaker who didn't seem hell bent on whipping this choir of corpulent swells into a lynch mob frenzy was the nominee for President. Contrary to his reputation for having a harsh temper, McCain took a different tack and spoke for nearly an hour like a tribal elder, calling for reform in Washington and claiming he's the man to make it happen. After the last eight years and John McCain's 90% voting record in favor of the unmitigated disaster that has taken place, his speech had the flavor of bitter satire. I'm deathly afraid that this man's idea of "reform" is going to end up being nothing but more of the same, or worse, in spite of any good intentions...if the do indeed exist.

Dan, don’t worry about talking to yourself, there is always the chance that someone else might hear. I know the feeling. I've been writing a political blog on the Paradise Post for just over two years now, and though I have a small but steady and talented readership that will often comment, it does sometimes seem as though I'm crying into the wilderness. Most blog readers don't bother to comment.

From reading your latest work entitled, “Republican Hatefest,” you appear to be on the right (actually the left) side of the political theater, a good place to be if one wishes to remain sane. I agree our nation is facing even deeper doo-doo if this “all show and no essence” team of McCain/Palin is allowed to go all the way in November. Just when we thought things couldn’t get worse, when we believed a different party with higher ideals and standards might finally have the opportunity to set a few things straight, the Republicans have it seems succeeded in basically throwing a new wrench into the political works. With the brilliance of unscrupulous disregard for the needs of the nation, they have once again pulled a winner out of the Rovian Playbook.

They have successfully diverted the fanatical Republican extremist base, as well as the “go along with anything that might win” mainstream party members, from issues back to personalities. Rule #1 in that playbook: When you have nothing new to say or offer, as you are most likely staying the same tired, weary and ineffective course as usual, you switch from issues to bashing the personalities of your opponents.

It’s hard to know which was more effective at this year’s RNC, the application of Rule #1, or the additional use of Rule #2, lie, lie and lie some more. I used to believe the one benefit to come out of the Cheney/Bush Administration is how effectively they made the American public capable of seeing the lies, ineptitude and corruption at the heart of the Republican Party. Imagine my surprise to find out that the right wing not only appears to not care about being lied to, but they embrace it as well. The lies at the RNC came so rapidly and by so many so often, that it was necessary to question if one had fallen through the looking glass.

Romney lied like a sieve, Huckabee proved that his concern about the suffering of the poor was a lie, Giuliani was Giuliani, a lie by default, and the new darling of the GOP, Sarah Palin, all the while giving a wonderful speech, lied so well that the lies became as attractive as her surface self. And as you said, they whipped up the choir to a fever pitch, and they are once again raring to go!

It’s my own opinion that Sarah Palin is going to eventually backfire. There is not much red meat behind her ability to speak well, and already the media and Obama Campaign are scrambling over one another to find the truth of her accomplishments (or not) in Alaska, even while the GOP is scrambling to claim that any delving into her past is an outrage against the nation and her gender.

Already the exaggerations and misrepresentations of her claims have begun to surface in the MSM as well as the blogosphere. My favorite is: “Palin's Speech to Nowhere,” by Will Bunch, of The Philadelphia Daily News:

http://www.truthout.org/article/palins-speech-nowhere

It’s not unexpected that the Republicans don’t even want her interviewed or questioned by the press. They believe she is ready to take over the presidency if needed, but not to answer questions about herself. Too funny! What isn’t funny is how their base has no problem with this fallacious logic. Of course we know that logic and critical thinking is not among their strong points.

Anyway, I’ve talked enough; keep writing and exposing the Real Truth to as many as possible. If you interested in viewing some of my own writings, or starting a dialogue, please go to:
