Notes from the PV vs. Chico dual

There was no music Wednesday night at the Chico vs. Pleasant Valley wrestling dual meet. I can’t say that I was disappointed, though at the same time I really wanted to see how the crowd reacted. I guess that’s a moot point now.

But the crowd itself is worth a mention. Wednesday’s crowd was outstanding in terms of dual meets and it knew when to cheer and it understood the significance of the crosstown battle. Obviously there wasn’t an official attendance total, and no, I am not going to estimate how many people were there. I only say that because I’m terrible at estimating.

A quick note about the wrestlers: Dual meet wrestling is vastly different than in individual tournaments, complete with some guys moving up in weight and some wrestlers purposefully letting their opponents up just so they could gain another takedown. It’s a style I love watching, though the postseason individual tourneys are still the ultimate.
Look for more wrestling in the Sunday paper with my coverage from Corning’s tournament. And yes, basketball fans, we’re still all about the roundball. With the help of a new freelancer (Ryan Klocke), we’re covering a lot more basketball.

I’m putting together the whole section’s layout tonight, so sorry if I’m a little brief here. Tomorrow’s blog post is gonna be awesome!
