The 'Bleed is back - wrestling rankings
Welcome back to the prep sports season, all you Nosebleed Section readers. The last three weeks haven’t provided a whole lot of action, and even if they had, I wouldn’t really have been around to cover it.
The holidays provided for two vacation days and a three-day trip to Lake Tahoe, complete with a cabin and one day of skiing along with two days of snowboarding. Man, I miss those snow sports. I was amazed at how natural it was to get back on the hill after sitting out nearly two years.
So here’s what I’ve got: Wrestling rankings, then update blurbs on basketball from the past couple weeks. It’s enough to get us all thinking about which teams and performers have been distinguishing themselves.
On these wrestling rankings, please note that they are from www.thecaliforniawrestler.com. Quincy coach Terry Pack does them, and the information he gets isn’t always accurate. So there will be misspelled names and some grades will be wrong. Basketball info is below.

In basketball, both Chico and PV’s girls took part in the West Coast Jamboree in the area of Antioch, Brentwood, and other not-so-fabulous delta locales. Neither did exceptionally well but still exhibited decent results in an elite tournament.
Not many other teams played, though I noticed that Champion Christian’s girls seem to be successful.
The Eastern Athletic League opens Tuesday and I expect this year to be tightly contested. Paradise’s boys are improved, and beat PV at the Red Bluff Holiday Classic to pass last year’s sad win total (four). PV is tough defensively but will have to work through some injuries. Chico, in my mind, is the best team. But Enterprise is so dangerous it is scary. Don’t count out Foothill, a title-game team last year, and Red Bluff brings in players from a highly successful JV team.
On the girls side, PV is better than I expected and could contend. I thought Chico is the top squad and despite a near-.500 record I still believe that. The Panthers have played every game out of the section and I think that speaks volumes. Also, Paradise is a quality squad that will make some EAL noise. They might be better off in Division II for the playoffs because LP is in D-III with the Bobcats.
And one more thing: Las Plumas’ girls are really awesome. I don’t see them
