My Ideal Political Party

Wouldn't it be nice if we could custom order, and only pay for, the channels that we want from ComCast? I pay for like 500 channels but I only watch about 30 of them. Applying the same logic, I wish I could create my own political party. I would custom make it from the best ideals of all political parties....with a few twists of my own. My political party would be called the "American" party.

The liberal side of me would incorporate.... women's rights, gay and minority right's, animal right's, legalized marijuana, socialized health care, better protection for the environment, euthanasia, more (but practical) regulation on industry, smaller military (because we would quit policing the world), legalized prostitution, less nukes, no chemical weapons EVER, better services for homeless and the mentally ill, more tax dollars for animal shelters, easy loans for college students, no death penalty, schools teach evolution and not creationism (wouldn't teaching creationism along with evolution be like teaching alchemy along with chemistry, astrology along with astronomy, and numerolgy along with math?), no tax dollars for private schools (because "private schools" really translate to "religious schools") get off of foreign oil by putting more money into alternative energies rather than drilling in Alaska and off the California coast, and a long list of other things I can't even think of right now.

The conservative side of me would incorporate into my dream party.... fiscal spending, smaller government (I know, except for the socialized health care thing), tighter boarder control, English as our national language, caps on law suits (as well as doing away with frivolous law suits), lower taxes (national sales tax), the right to bear arms (but not ouzies!), no more political correctness, public humiliation type punishments for thieves (I really have a problem with thieves), and the right to shoot to kill when somebody breaks into your home!

As you can see, my liberal list is a bit longer. I would bet that most of us would have two list's if we could custom design our own political party, one from the liberal side and one from the conservative side, with one side being a longer list than the other.

I agree totally, i like your list

I will be entering your name as a write-in candidate on the November ballot. Please get your affairs in order so you'll be ready to move to the White House in January.

Great post.

Joe's reply....I don't know who you are, but would you marry me?

Joe, Being a liberal and a socialist, I go along with your liberal side. Regarding your conservative side, I agree with doing away with frivolous lawsuits, provided that when you say frivolous that this wouldn't limit peoples ability to sue big corporations when they do harm to us. Regarding a national sales tax, if you mean this as something to replace the income tax I would oppose that. Sales taxes are regressive and fall heaviest on low income people. I'm for raising the taxes on the rich, but rather than use the word 'taxes' I call it the rich paying their dues to this country.

As left as I am, I suppose I have a bit of a conservative side if one wants to call it that. I'm certainly opposed to cutting welfare programs that help the disabled and to families with children who fall into circumstances where they would not be able to support their families, such as unemployment. I opposed the so-called "Welfare Reform Act" signed by President Clinton because it was too draconian. However, I am opposed to giving welfare to people who choose to keep having more children when they don't have the means to support them. A couple of weeks ago, I went to the Dept. of Human Services with a friend of mine who is BTW single. She was applying for CMSP which is like Medi-Cal, because of a particular ailment that she needs treated. It's very difficult for single people who are poor but not considered poor enough by the system to get these benefits. However when I was there, I noticed a woman who was pregnant in the waiting room. There was a man with her, and every other word that came out of that man's mouth was a swear word. It is a total waste of money to be giving these people welfare. By doing this at the same time that we don't give benefits to single people who need them, we're actually encouraging people to have more children. Our government needs to do a much better job of promoting both birth control and abstinence. Our youngsters must be taught this in the schools, and these courses must be mandatory. No notes from the parents excusing the students from these courses. What to do with the children who are now being raised by incompetent parents? See my blog, "Making Decent Homes For Our Youth," posted on February 22nd.

Joe's reply....I agree with everything you say Walter. I have more to say about national sales tax and how I think it might work.....another blog down the road
