Governor Moonbeam, Lapel Buttons, and Double Digit IQ Voters

Barak Obama will soon be announcing his pick for vice pres. I have no doubt it will be Joe Biden and that's fine with me. Joe Biden will bring experience and integrity to the ticket. Plus Biden is a scrapper, he will have no problem duking it out with the "So-what-if-Bush-lied-about-going-to-war-and-tripled-the-national-debt-.....take a breath.......Clinton-lied-about-having-sex!" republicans.

These elections are getting harder to watch all the time. Just when you think the republicans couldn't get any lower, they find new ways to insult intelligent voters. They are trying to discredit Obama by calling him the messiah for God's sake! Their going after his wife, his preacher, his name, his lapel buttons....talk about desperate. Problem is, this stuff works. It works because they are not going after thinking rational voters, they know those voters already have their minds made up, they are going after the double digit IQ crowd who tend to over-react to feel good cliches. Country western music, evangelist preachers, corporate advertising....they all use the same gimmicks with the same crowd. Oh yes, it works.

I was talking to a republican the other day who mentioned...."Looks like Moonbeam is going to be our next governor." I asked why he was holding onto an old phrase that most republicans, at least the more mature ones, don't even use anymore. I asked if it was because Jerry Brown decided not to move into the expensive governors mansion that Reagan had built for future governors and instead lived in a one bedroom apartment downtown and rode a bike to work, or was it the fact that he was a vegetarian, or maybe because he dated Linda Ronstadt? He admitted that it was all of that. Governor Moonbeam....the guy who lowered Ronald Reagan's largest tax increase in the history of the state and still left office with a surplus of cash....so much money as I recall that the state didn't know what to do with it. Yea, he was a flake alright.

I expect if Barak wins, were going to be hearing about what a terrible president he is because his wife is wearing checks with stripes, or he keeps talking about hope, or he didn't bow his head at the pledge of allegiance, or maybe they'll dig up some kind of Whitewater scandal they can spend 125 million on and come up empty handed, but at least it will keep the public thinking the guy must have done something wrong because, hey, he's being investigated isn't he?

Like Obama, I have hope. I have hope that someday this country will mature to the level that we can run an election based on ideas and facts.

Our country is so terribly split, more than ever before, and I think caused by the politicians themselves, and we are all so sick of it. I have read recently that only 30% of the people in this country will vote in this election. There are so many millions and millions of us in the middle, centrists if you like, who are so fed up with the far right and the far left, and if you listen to talk show radio, it just makes you absolutely numb to any idea of sanity. We are so tired of the horrible degradation of each side, we cannot even hold a decent conversation without hard feelings between the right and the left. I am beginning to think most of us would like to be known as libertarians or independents, only we do not have a big enough party to really vote for, so we try to choose, left or right - and then whatever, probably will be part of the 70% predicted who will not bother.

Joe's reply....I know, I know. The only thing I know what to do about it is to talk about where I think the problems are. The basis of the problem is not so much in a particular political party as much as it is in our true lack of understanding spiritual principals which allows us to act contrary to our highest ideals. I guess it really starts with changing ones self. Does one talk about it or does one just do it?....We should probably try to do both.

I agree with both of you. Now Bush and McCain are starting their scare america into voting republican! It makes me sick but people are falling for this Karl Rove way of lying to the American People!

i'm seriously thinking of going independent this election, both sides are way too far right and left.

i would like to know what far left ideas have been discussed in this election cycle? please clue me in.

Hi Pat....I think they are staying away from far left ideas, thay always do during the election. Each side tries to reach out to the center once they have the nomination.

i am still looking for a far left idea. what would that be?
nationalized oil companies? the state taking private property? what far left idea is out there lurking in the darkness?

Socoalized health care....I don't know, what do you think?
