Punish the Parents of Gang-bangers?

Chico PD has arrested and charged two teens for the murder of an Oroville man and the stabbing of his friend. As reported in today's E-R, "Police said witnesses reported hearing one of the two brothers shouting gang slogans at (victims) Semore and Caffey. During the fight, the younger of the two brothers allegedly pulled a knife and stabbed Semore multiple times, then turned the attack on Caffey. It's believed the older brother participated in the fight and at some point tried to come to his younger brother's aid." But, the case is far from over.

Not only should the suspects be held accountable, but I think the "people" deserve some sort of accountability from the parents. I wish this was standard proceedure for any serious incident involving the criminal actions of a dependant in their care, but it rarely is. The reality of this situation says police have their hands full just trying to get a conviction on the suspects. It's highly unlikely the parents will be even investigated, let alone charged, despite the appearance of a severe lack of parental supervision that directly contributed to this tragedy. However, if the police did take a look at the parents and circumstances warranted a charge, it would send a message to other such parents...."If you are not a responsible parent and your child commits a serious crime, then you're going to be charged with a crime!"

Jack, as usual I agree with you 110% but you forgot that we live in a State that gives all the rights to the criminals and ignores the victims. It is a good thing the twin towers were not in California. Chances are good it wouldn't even be a crime here.
