Treason and the Far Left

Yesterday I was listening on the radio to a young army soldier who had been severely wounded in Iraq. He was still in rehab at Walter Reed where doctors were trying to save his leg. A portion of his leg bone was so badly damaged they can't use metal rods or synthetic bone to fill the missing gap. They are hoping the bone will regenerate itself and knit back together, so the treatment now is to watch and wait. The odds are slim, but it's his only chance. He remains hopeful, even after 18 surgeries with more to come.

The soldier related that soon after arriving at the hospital he was provided "get well" letters from Americans writing to any soldier. Unfortunately, the first letter he opened had somehow slipped by the screeners and it said, "Have fun in Iraq and have fun dying!" Can you believe this came from an American citizen? What kind of a sicko would write such a thing to a wounded soldier? (Actually, I can think of a lot of people who would and they are all on the far left. I truly wish doing something that despicable would be a punishable crime.) Of course the many other letters were very supportive and encouraging.

On his way into the hospital he passed by protesters at the gate who held anti-war signs, including several targeting the soldiers. He recalled two signs, "WE LOVE I.E.D.'S" and "GOD LOVES DEAD PARATROOPERS!" Again, it's hard for me to believe this is coming from American citizens! No doubt these are the same sort of people that burn the American flag (or fly enemy flags at their home) and then have the gall to call it an act of patriotism? Lately, even their dysfunctional interpretation of patriotism is sinking to a new low, we've seen Howard Dean say on national media we can't win the war in Iraq, we've got Ted Kennedy calling our troops terrorists, threatening women and children in the night, and its hurting us in our global war on terrorism as they are trying to bring down the moral of our soldiers.

This wounded soldier was obviously upset by these protestors as he talked about the high moral value of our mission in Iraq. Which he still felt was very worthwhile and very winnable. Paraphrasing him now, "To cut and run now would be a tragic mistake and we just can't do that. It means our soldiers have sacrificed for nothing. It would undue any chance Iraqi's may have for a democratic future." He said the news media is constantly working against them, distorting their work and giving headlines for terrorism. He felt our homegrown protestors are making it tough for soldiers like him in Iraq and he added the same goes for some of our outspoken elected officials. In his closing words he wished that the anti-war critics could go to Iraq and see first hand what he has seen, talk to the Iraqi's and learn it's nothing like what the media portrays or the left is distorting for their own political agenda.

This makes me think there is only one logical response for Bush's critics now, "We don't like the war situation, but we are committed to seeing it through and doing whatever it takes to get our troops out in the shortest time possible." That's it. Anything more critical is absolutely counter-productive to our mutual goal of withdrawing from Iraq in the shortest time possible.

The left should shut up and stop chanting, "Bush lied - People died!" That ignorant mantra is itself a lie. We've proven it time and again. Bush did NOT lie. How many times do we have to say it, he used the same intel the left had and reached the same conclusions they did. More importantly, he also used very valid reasons to depose Hussein that was well within international law and backed up by a UN peace treaty that Hussein breeched...repeatedly.

These anti-American hate monger's on the left think being outspoken critics of everything the US/Bush does, says or stands for is somehow being patriotic. They prefer to wallow in their own rhetoric and spout off false allegations, but they dare not acknowledge one single thing evil about our enemy, they are too cowardly to do that. Better to attack America because they can do so with impunity (and to the roaring applause from their global leftists allies).

The only thing these sick people can still cling too is this one stale issue about WMD's. However, even that point is still debatable as anyone with half a brain knows Iraq had more than ample time to remove all evidence of WMD's prior to the war! WMD's is a moot point in the sense that Hussein forced the issue, not us. Who doesn't recall the decade of dozens of UN resolutions demanding open inspections, while Hussein steadfastly thumbed his nose at both UN sanctions and the inspections, even firing missiles at UN over-flights? This aggression and refusal to comply with the peace treaty kept the situation escalating towards a military conclusion, never mind all his war crimes and human rights violations which should have forced UN militray intervention long ago. Finally, after all the obstucting, defiance and costs of innocent Iraqi lives, there was but one responsible choice left to the UN: Military action, but they couldn't do it because necessary votes had been subverted, bribed away by Iraq's Oil for Food program. America was delt a low blow by so-called allies like Germany and Russia who acted soley in their own greedy, self-serving interests, despite of the mandate to intervene on behalf of humanity, the overwhelming evidence and the rule of law laid out in the original 1991 UN peace treaty.

Don't expect the traitors on the left to acknowledge any of this (and I meant to say traitors too). Their narrow political agenda has little concern for the truth or for national security, they are all about destroying George W. Bush and taking power, to H- - with America and to H-- with Bush....if it takes losing the war and empowering an Islamic Jihad movement, then so be it. And that my friends is exactly why I think they are traitors. They've gone far beyond the scope of political debate and a reasoned dialog in protesting this war, their actions are by its very definition...treasonous.

Congressman John Murtha on a talk show last night said that he would not serve in the military right now. Speaking for my son who just left for a tour as a gunner on a humvee performing combat patrol in West Baghdad. Mr. Congressman I don't care what you did in viet Nam. I don't want you or your friends watching my back.
Brian, my son, is confident in his training, his comrades and the mission. His only concern is being shot in the back either here or abroad.
