Medical Treatment 3d Leading Cause of Death

According to the Journal of American Medicine, medical treatment is the 3rd leading cause of death, bested only by heart disease and cancer. According to another study, failed medical events cost the deceased patient and thier insurance companies a whopping $282 billion.

Health care now represents over 14 percent of the Gross National Product or $1.6 trillion dollars per a 2003 report. "Statistical evidence shows despite enormous expenditures, people are not living any better, but they are living longer. Americans need to drop the weight, eat smarter and exercise more to live well. If we don't, we will just spend a few extra years dying" paraphrasing medical author Dr. Joseph Mercola in his essay on health.

Dr. B. Starfield, MD, Johns Hopkins, said treatment complications by doctors result in an average of 250,000 deaths per year:

  • 12,000 -- unnecessary surgery
  • 7,000 -- medication errors in hospitals
  • 20,000 -- other errors in hospitals
  • 80,000 -- infections in hospitals
  • 106,000 -- non-error, negative effects of drugs.

The sum of all deaths from doctors, medicine and including outpatient treatment is in excess of 740,000.

Why aren't the all caring Liberals marching on DC about this? I will tell you why. It's far easier to get dead people to vote democrat than live ones.
