Outhouse symbol Offends Muslims!
Prior to this current Danish cartoon flap, there was another cartoon incident that went largely unnoticed by most westerners. Last November a Muslim anti-deflamation group called on "BC" author Johnny Hart to apologize for a comic strip that it says insults Islam. The strip shows a caveman entering a crescent-adorned outhouse and saying, "Is it me, or does it stink in here?" You may think this is a joke, but I'm not kidding, this is really true!
Islamic leaders are certain their crescent symbol for Islam is being disrespected! Perhaps Muslims don't realize the "crescent moon" not only represents the symbol for Islam, but it has been the identifying sign for "outhouses" in America for over 200 years. I guess this means some areas of our country will either have to remove the "crescent" from the outhouse door or risk an attack by terrorists?
Well, according to my 3rd cousin in Oklahoma, "They have gone too dang far this time!" Those Muslims better understand in certain parts of America that the "outhouse" is akin to a holy place, sometimes its a two holey place, if you know what I mean? The point being, it's going to hit the fan big time if they start messin with our outhouses! Americans won't take that one sitting down, especially in the south!"
(Okay, this last part of the story was a joke, I couldn't resist...now back to the serious news! )
"The cartoon, which appeared Nov. 10 in more than 1,200 newspapers worldwide -- including The Washington Post -- shows a caveman entering an outhouse at night, and then saying, from inside, "Is it just me, or does it stink in here?" ... [T]he cartoon contained six crescent moons -- three in the sky, and three on the outhouse door -- and wondered if this might have been a veiled slur on the world's 1 billion practicing Muslims. ... [An email] noted that Hart had drawn a prominent sound effect -- "SLAM" -- between two frames to accompany the closing of the outhouse door. The SLAM was stacked vertically, in the shape of an I, and could be seen to signify "Islam." The cartoon appeared on the 15th day of Ramadan, the Muslim holy month."
