Ports Operation Sale Defended by Bush
A $6.8 billion sale now gives the United Arab Emirates control over significant port operations in six major American ports and it has Americans wondering whats up?
Bush has defended the sale and has threatened to veto any legislation that would derail it. "The sale to state-owned Dubai Ports World was "rigorously reviewed" by a U.S. committee that considers security threats when foreign companies seek to buy or invest in American industry, National Security Council spokesman Frederick Jones said."
Oh, really Mr. Jones? Then why does over 70% of Congress feel very uneasy about this deal, and we're talking about a lot of very conservative Republicans? "The potential threat to our country is not imagined, it is real," Rep. Mark Foley, R-Fla., said in a House speech.
Rep. Vito Fossella, R-N.Y., urged congressional hearings on the deal.
"At a time when America is leading the world in the war on terrorism and spending billions of dollars to secure our homeland, we cannot cede control of strategic assets to foreign nations with spotty records on terrorism," Fossella said.
I really want to know who stands to gain by this sale and see if they are the same people who are telling us its not a security problem. Something doesn't seem right here and we need more information.

Think about this. When in the past 40 years, has the typical knee jerk reaction been the correct reaction? I will grant you that I am very worried that Jimmy Carter thinks this is a good idea. I do not know enough about the nuts and bolts on this issue to form an educated opinion. I do think that as usual when this is all done, it will amount to nothing. I base that on the reaction to this deal by the usual suspects. Go with your gut feeling.

Sorry about that it should have said "typical liberal knee jerk reaction"
