Another PC War...Oh, great.

George W. Bush made a promise to the troops when he initiated the Iraq war. (cont)

He said this war won't be fought like Vietnam, where politicians, not military leaders, made strategic decisions for the boots on the ground. Unfortunately, Bush's promise has not held up too well. It seems at times as though the desire for "political correctness" has replaced winning, as our most important priority.

It's no secret that too many soldiers and commanders are worried about being blamed for another scandal like Abugraib; which would have never even been news back in the 40's, nor would anything coming out of Gitmo. But, that's how its going these days and the soldiers on the front line are forced to work under real close examination. One mistake and a career is over or it's prison time, great huh? We're running this combat area with all the rules of engagement you would expect to find in a courtroom, while the enemy has no rules. And every day embedded reporters are looking for that one mistake to get a headline, what taht does to moral or combat effectiveness is not their concern. But, who's watching the bad guys or complaining about what they do? Noboby.

This letter below only echoes what I have known for almost a year. I first heard similar complaints about too much "PC" from several Marines (we were stateside friends) who were in some real rough areas near Fallujah. I got an almost weekly update from them
for almost 3-4 months, until their replacements showed up. But, the main point here is, it doesn't seem to matter which branch or where they are in Iraq, everybody seems to be suffering from the same thing, too much PC in a war zone. That's not going to win us much, but it could cost us plenty.

A letter from Iraq...

aak.jpg

For those of you feeling some frustration over the war in Iraq, I would encourage you to contact your Congressman or Congresswoman and ask them why the military is not permitted to even "threaten" terrorists with being handed over to the Iraqi Army? Over here, this is considered grounds for a psychological torture charge, which as we are told by our "friends on the left "doesn't work anyway. Maybe, if our "friends on the left" were a little closer to the impacting mortar rounds and IED's, like me, they would take a more pragmatic view of "psychological torture" (which "doesn't work" according to them!)

This is but one example of PC gone wild in Iraq. Winning hearts and minds is not solely about handing out tooth brushes and coloring books, it's about ensuring the local populace that you can provide for their basic security. The bottom line America, is we were sent here to fight a war and slowly but surely we are being abandoned.

Letters from home and care packages are great, but what the vast majority of us would like, is for the so called silent majority to get up and start making some noise about absurd, liberal, PC restrictions that are making winning this war IMPOSSIBLE!

We can accomplish great things over here, but not if we have both hands tied behind our backs for fear of pxxxxxxg off Teddy Kennedy and all our concerned supporters over at MoveOn.org.

Ladies and Gentleman..its a war, not a bake sale! Mistakes, bad things and unintended consequences are going to happen. But, what am I supposed to tell an Iraqi who puts the life of his family on the line to give me information about a KNOWN terrorist, when that terrorist is LET GO 2 weeks later because we don't have enough "hard evidence" to keep him locked up (this usually means the terrorist had enough "hard cash" to get out of prison). Do you think that person will ever come to me with information, ever again? I wouldn't.

You want to debate the finer points of US national policy and power projection, fine! How about the concept of "soft power" and its role in counter-insurgency warfare, I'm game for that one because I live it. This is not the rant of a pxxxxed off private from the National Guard (no offense Guard, you know us active duty types give you a bad time). I do have a grasp of how Counterinsurgency Warfare should be waged and the implications of tactical leaders making decisions with strategic implications in the information age. So, if you want to debate the issue, send a post to me then lets do it. But, in the mean time, maybe some of the theorists could take some advice from the decision makers or at least give us the support we were promised when this started. I don't think we'll ever see it.

So, thank you, Ted Kennedy, thank you, John Kerry, Nancy Pelosi, Howard Dean, etc. you have set out to undermine us at every step and with your help, the foreign fighters are accomplishing things over here they never would have been able to do without your steady support! As for the Republicans, you had better start speaking up.
I for one will never forget this. You can count on that.

Defends Catholic Church on Immigration Issue

A different point of view (sort of) from one of our readers, that warrants page one...this from Jeff,

"I'd like to address a few things, if I may. The Catholic Church has no doctrinal position on illegal immigration other than: 1) Catholics are obliged to obey all just laws of the state; and 2) Catholics are obliged to show mercy to anyone in genuine need. (cont)

The dilemma comes with the fact that so many illegal immigrants are apparently both lawbreakers AND persons in genuine need. The Catholic Church does, of course, minister to anyone in grave necessity, without regard to creed or legal status. At the same time the Catholic Church (at least in principle) exhorts all men to obey all just laws, including immigration laws.

Although there may be some dispute as to whether our immigration laws are just, the weight of Catholic tradition answers "yes", our immigration laws are just, when applied to anyone who is able to meet his basic material needs in his home country or elsewhere.

As a Catholic myself, it seems to me that a majority of illegals are not here because of any grave necessity. There are undoubtedly some exceptions to this. But - here's where the rubber meets the road - it isn't MY job, or the job of the Catholic Church, to figure that out. We are not the border patrol. It is the job of the state to enforce its own laws. As a citizen I have the right to assume that the state is doing its job and that my neighbors are here legally. I have friends from Mexico and I don't go around asking to see their papers. If they come to me asking for help, or even employment, I should not have to think twice about it. And the same goes for the Church as an institution. While I believe our immigration laws should be enforced, the fact is that they are not being enforced, and I don't appreciate the task of enforcement being dumped on me, or American employers, or the Catholic Church."

Mexican Flags Fly Over California Once Again

la_protest_350.jpg

The warning chant, "Today we march - tomorrow we vote!" (cont-)

Protestors supporting illegal immigration took to the streets of Los Angeles and other cities to tell America how it's going to be. 12 million illegals are already here and many are protesting across America against tougher immigration laws and for liberal amnesty programs. Those numbers are just too overwhelming to ignore and politicians know it. They are prepared to act accordingly, just as they would to any massive special interest group that pressures them. (Usted hablo Espanol? Usted mejor aprende!)

This day will go down in America's history as a turning point from which there is no return, the genie is out of the bottle.

Predicatably, they were joined by many far left groups like ANSWER (a false front for global communism) and MOVEON.ORG, to name but a few. Their agenda's were quite different from the majority of protestors.

The New Civil Rights Cause

Replacing the Civil Rights movement of the 1960's is the new (or should I say, nuevo?) civil rights movements for our oppressed, quasi-legal, citizens, who are almost regular-legal-American-citizens, except for one small detail, they were born citizens of Mexico (cont)

and elsewhere south of the border. A technicality of "birth location", that's all.

But, that one small technicality seems to be a big problem for the INS charged with enforcing our immigration regulations and laws. Millions of almost-legal citizens, be it not for this "birth location" tiff, say they should not be held accountable for that and certainly not punished by extradition, fines or incarceration!

Huddled masses without passes, what should we do, America?

The exact number of illegal citizens is not known, because they are undocumented, but those people who make their living by getting elected to high office say it's between 11 and 12 million potential voters and that's a sizeable lobby and it's caused both parties to be catering to them, never mind the legalities. That number is large enough, some say, to start dictating terms to the government, not vice versa. Recently, angry mobs of illegals in Los Angeles have taken to the streets in such numbers that the INS and Border Patrol were too terrified to come near them.

The illegals argue they are needed to fill the jobs that the regular citizens don't want and that many industries depend on them. Those opposed say that's not entirely true, if those jobs were paying at least minimum wage, plenty of American citizens would want them, but illegals short circuit the system. Illegal employers say it's not so much about minimum wage as it is work ethics. They say they hire illegals because they work hard and tend to be more reliable than low wage American workers addicted to welfare. And the addicted welfare recipients say welfare pays better than working hard for a mere minimum wage; they have no incentive to work. Welfare recipients are a huge lobbying force too, catered too by democrats who want to keep them there and keep their votes.

It's a mess out there!

Unfortunately, our best estimates tell us that, even if everything the employers and the illegals say is true, the American citizens come up short. Illegals are still costing taxpayers much more than they put back into the system. We (taxpayers) payout more to keep illegals here than all the money they generate, much of which is sent to Mexico to help their economy, not ours. So from a purely economic reason, illegal immigration is not cost effective, except for a few big employers that benefit enormously.

Are we a country of laws or are we a wide open country for immigration?

The polls say an overwhelming majority of Americans, and that includes Hispanic-Americans, want illegal immigration stopped because of the many problems it brings them: Such as, higher crime and the drain on limited law enforcement resources, as evidenced by the disproportional number of illegals represented in our prisons. In California they are the largest number of inmates per capita.

Illegals have bankrupted many hospitals along the southern border and as their numbers increase, the drain on hospital budgets is spreading into the heartland and that raises serious concerns how long we can continue before it overwhelms our medical system. Of course there is the higher costs for education, social services and a host of other drains on our limited resources. There is also the fear of epidemics and thrid world diseases spread by uncontrolled immigration.

So, why aren't the politicians paying attention to the polls? Because the American voter is a push over compared to the very active, very vocal, very manipulating, special interest groups that pressure politicians and pay generously in campaign contributions.

As wealthy as America may be, many of us are slowly beginning to realize we do have limits that are being reached.

One compelling idea to temporarily relieve this economic/immigration crisis would be to raise taxes. Many fear, if we do that, the higher taxes would slow the economy and that would lead us backwards to higher unemployment like we had in the Carter years. Eventually this would mean lower tax revenue for the government. Government would then have to either make serious cuts in benefits, military and social programs (not likely) or increase taxes again to make up for the loss revenue and so the cycle continues until?

This is a very real fear and we've been down this road before with tax and spend liberals.

One thing is for sure, this is a real crisis and it won't be solved by ignoring it. The House acted and passed a guest worker program, but the Senate didn't like it and wanted to ad a provision that would entitled the guest workers to file for citizenship...the President, who was elected with the help of a large Hispanic vote, may feel once again compelled to take very minimal (band aide) action, as we've seen in his first term in office.

Congress, and our local Representative, Wally Herger-R, have assured us the guest worker program is the way to go. Even though they acknowledge that current illegal immigration laws are not being enforced. Despite some slight improvements to border security, we still have a very porous southern border! So, the logic of why a guest worker program would be anymore enforceable than previous laws, remains a mystery to most voters.

Meaningless Statistics and Skipping School

In a study of federal prisons, it was determined that over 17% of inmates are illegal immigrants. In California it is estimated that well over 30% of inmates are also classified as "illegal immigrants". Illegal immigrants make up between 3% to 4% of the nations total population, yet are disproportionately represented in California prisons by a factor of 7! Democrat legislators have determined that no conclusions should be drawn from this, as these are meaningless statistical facts and should be ignored, cause figures lie and liars figure or something like that.

Meanwhile hundreds of students walked out of class in at least 8 California high schools to celebrate Ceasar Chavez day (at least its not Hugo Chavez, President for Life of Venezuela.) and walked with protestors for illegal immigration, although when interviewed, they seemed to have no clue who or what they were supporting, but liked the idea of skipping school.

USA Losing Another Battle v Mexico Ganar Otra Batalla

mexico.gif
This time 500,000 protestors took to the streets over the weekend in Los Angeles to protest new legislation aimed at curtailing illegal immigration. As one lady marcher said, "We need laws to protect illegal immigrants!"

(cont-)

No doubt, this opinion echoes in the hearts and minds of most Americans who can't wait to see this country become a third world nation with all the high standards that brought us Montezuma's revenge.

This beseiged legislation was intended to target organizations that work like the old French Underground during WWII that once smuggled downed pilots back to the allies lines, but with a few new twists. The smuggling is coming in, not out. The allied lines would be the many sanctuary cities and clandestine business offices created to insure successful illegal immigration and assimilate the illegals into the welfare sys.., er, I mean, work system.

These "illegal" organizations specialize in introducing the new arrivals to a shopping list of fictitious ID's, including social security cards, birth certificates and other fake credentials all designed to avoid detection and apprehension by law enforcement.

The secret "Welcome Wagon" operations are often the first to introduce the new illegals to a host of free welfare services and charitable services, such as the hugely popular "Well Baby Program" that solicits pregnant mothers in Mexico to illegally cross the border to have their children in American hospitals at taxpayers expense, thus assuring them of citizenship and a host of instant (but, well deserved) expensive safety nets while making a mockery of the legal immigration system that forces Asians and Europeans to go through a long and tedious process to actually earn the right to become American citizens (isn't that oppressive?).

I read about such illegal barrio services, hailed as mondern day Robin Hood organizations, in my grandson's 5th grade text book teaching students about California history as writen by members of La Raza (our new friends in high places).

The proposed legislation makes it a felony for anyone to give assistance to illegals immigrants and this has the Roman Catholic Church in a rage. As a result, they have been vocal opponents and have been out working the barrios to recruit protestors to fight this legislation. The Church says this law is inconsistent their intention to help ALL the poor and needy people, regardless of their legal status. I should point out, many illegals (also Catholic) provide a steady stream of income into the Catholic Church, which has absolutely no bearing on their support for illegals.

Do not fear...It's not likely that any controversial legislation, especially something this hot, will be passed this term. It's an election year and legislators are more concerned over losing votes than losing America's borders, language and culture. Besides, most American's don't really care about that stuff anymore, that's passé', better to just turn the nation into one big commune of good times for all with lots of free things paid by the rich! We don't need no stinkin culture.

Ustedes...tenga un buenos días!

What else can we do? (6 Month List)

The Spanish Inquisition was to some extent like this current "jihad" against the modern world, but on a scale of human misery and innocent deaths, even the Inquisition pales by comparison. You would have to go back to a time before Christ, before the common era, to find the level of rampant barbarism we witness now. Read the 6 month list and then tell me I am wrong! You need to know this stuff and we need to speak out against the violence...what else can we do?

Democrats Caught in Presidential Election Corruption

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — A political committee dedicated to helping Democrats win seats in the Missouri House must pay a $104,000 state fine for financial misconduct during the 2002 elections. The fine, one of the largest ever levied by the Missouri Ethics Commission, stems from an admission by the House Democratic Campaign Committee that it mixed its money with another committee, came under the control of a candidate for office and failed to properly report donations and spending in support of candidates.

In addition to the committee, U.S. Rep. Russ Carnahan, D-St. Louis and a former House member, must pay a $600 fine for his involvement with the committee’s practices.

By now you probably know, coalition forces rescued the three captive leftists in Baghdad. Freed were Canadians Harmeet Sooden, 32, Jim Loney, 41, and 74 year old Briton Norman Kember, 74. Kember had told his so-called Peacemaker Teammates and colleagues, (cont)

if he was taken hostage he did not wish the military to attempt to free him; he didn't get his wish and of course the military got no thanks, from him or his group.

When the military raided the west Baghdad house they found the hostages tied up, but no kidnappers? The Peacemaker's spokesman back in the UK, said they were happy their members were freed, but offered no thanks to the military that freed them. Instead, they blamed the military for a host of problems in Iraq.

From the beginning, there was something not quite right about this kidnapping, it was different from all the previous kidnappings. The clues before us now are... (1) A previously completely unknown group, claimed credit for taking them hostage, almost as if it had been invented to fit the hostage taking. (2) The hostages were not mistreated and were kept in western Baghdad, not the Sunni triangle where hostages are normally taken. (3) Only one hostage was killed, two weeks before they were freed. (4)The hostages were considered "useful fools" for the Sunni's; They supported terrorists via their political rants and the Sunni's are the usual hostage takers. (5) The kidnappers were not present when the house was raided, as if they had been tipped off. (6) The ransom demands were unrealistic, almost as if it was intended they never be met.

Now, lets set this kidnapping aside for a moment and take a look at what we know about the executions going on in and around Baghdad. Stay with me, this will all come together!

The victims were generally the kind of people that would have alerted any good airport security that uses terrorist profiling and to that end, the vast majority of the victims have been Sunni's. They seemed to be systematically rounded up in small groups of the size you might expect for... terrorist cells?

It doesn't take an Einstein to figure out the local Shiite's knew who was doing the bombing in Baghdad; they knew where the insurgents and Saddam's Sunni loyalists were located, but most of the one's that know such things are loath to tell American's or coalition forces. They've seen too many terrorists get picked up and then released for a lack of evidence. And they were frustrated by coalition forces who did not want Iraqi's to take any direct action, because they often lacked the high standards of proof the coalition forces demanded. Further, the coalition did not approve of their methods, which usually meant the suspected terrorist never survived interrogation.

Fighting with such civilized restraint, while fighting an enemy that has no rules, is something the average Iraqi just can't understand. Yet, they were almost forced to play along, even as the violence against them mounted. However, there came a time when the Shiite forces were well organized and well trained enough to act autonomously. When the growing acts of terrorism became intolerable and pushed them too far, they reacted.

The Shia used their new resources to fight fire with fire. They began to engage in a guerilla war of their making. But, this one did not involve IED's or hit and run mortar attacks. This was on the level of counter terrorism you might expect coming from the great rule bender, Jack Bauer on TV's "24".

The covert missions began with a subtle knock on the door late at night, by Iraqi's familiar with the neighborhoods and knowing their targets very well. And one by one, the enemy was taken out. The counter terrorism units worked door to door, neighborhood by neighborhood, silently and virtually unnoticed by the coalition. Sunni's and former Fedayene members disappeared into the night only to be found the next morning bound, blindfolded and dead. As many as 20 at one time, indicating a high level of coordinated effort by a large organized unit.

Since these grisly early morning discoveries began, the suicide bombings and the car bombings have slowed...coincidence? The coalition forces believe they must be finally gaining the upper hand and they are, but helped along by an unseen force that they have tried to keep restrained.

It seems pretty clear that someone friendly with the coalition forces and "in-the-know" of high level coalition operations, tipped the kidnappers the night of the hostage raid. This ads to my theory the hostages were not taken by insurgents or Saddam's loyalists. They were more likely taken by forces trying to help us and themselves.

The Peacemakers were damaging the efforts to stop real enemy, the terrorists. They were seen as useful fools to terrorists. To the Shiite forces, they were helping the enemy kill their Shiite friends and families and they had to be stopped.

A plan was developed based on the three ingredients common in every crime, motive, ability and opportunity. And who else had these 3 elements, except for Iraqi's working with the coalition? They were right next to the Peacekeeper Leftists the whole time, they witnessed their actions and they were compelled by what they saw to stop them.

If this was a kidnapping to keep them out of the way, then they had to make unreasonable ransom demands that could not be met to buy time. And they did and the second half of the motive was to scare away other meddling groups with headlines...and they accomplished this too. But, something went wrong, something happened that risked this operation and it resulted in one of the hostages being killed. We may never know exactly what went wrong, but we know they didn't really want to kill their hostages or they would have all been found dead, not just one.

This is why I think the kidnapping of these leftists and the dead bodies that keep turning up in Baghdad's morning light, are probably connected. That's my educated guess.

We need a clear winner in Iraq to run the country and it can't be Saddam's people. We may not approve of these hit squad methods, but the best thing the coalition could do now is stay out of the way.

What do you think?

Al Qaeda Connections to Saddam's Iraq

This was discovered by Coffeesnob and submitted for your review:

"U.S. forces in Saudi Arabia were attacked by al Qaeda twice in the months following Saddam Hussein's decision to approve Osama bin Laden's request for help in attacking "foreign forces" in Saudi Arabia.(cont)

An Iraqi intelligence document released last week states that bin Laden met in Sudan with senior Iraqi intelligence agents on Feb. 19, 1995, where he requested help in conducting "joint operations against foreign forces" in Saudi Arabia.

Saddam "was informed of the details of the meeting in our letter 370 on March 4, 1995," the Iraqi intelligence memo explains.

The document goes on to state

"The approval was received from the Leader, Mr. President, may God keep him . . . . We were left to develop the relationship and the cooperation between the two sides to see what other doors of cooperation and agreement open up."

Reporting on the bombshell document on Wednesday, ABC News noted:

"Given that the document claims bin Laden was proposing to the Iraqis that they conduct 'joint operations against foreign forces' in Saudi Arabia, it is interesting to note that eight months after the meeting — on November 13, 1995 — terrorists attacked Saudi National Guard Headquarters in Riyadh, killing 5 U.S. military advisors. The militants later confessed on Saudi TV to having been trained by Osama bin Laden."

Unnoted by ABC: Eight months after the Riyadh attack, 19 U.S. servicemen were killed when a large truck bomb blew up the Khobar Towers military barracks in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia.

In August 1996 - two months after the Khobar attack and a year-and-a-half after he entered into his "joint operations" agreement with Saddam - bin Laden issued a Declaration of Jihad outlining his organization's goals.

Topping his agenda, according to PBS: "Drive US forces from the Arabian Peninsula, overthrow the Government of Saudi Arabia, liberate Muslim holy sites, and support Islamic revolutionary groups around the world."

Bin Laden also declared that Saudis have the right to strike at U.S. troops in the Persian Gulf."

Peaceful Islam Demands Death for Christian Convert

"Abdul Rahman is charged with rejecting Islam and could face the death sentence under Sharia law unless he recants.

He converted 16 years ago as an aid worker helping refugees in Pakistan. His estranged family denounced him in a custody dispute over his two children.

It is thought to be Afghanistan's first such trial, reflecting tensions between conservative clerics and reformists."

Is it any wonder that when a Muslim scholar comes to our town (see story below) that we should question his honesty, when he says Islam is a religion of peace that respects all people and religions?

And where oh where is the high minded "Peace and Justice Center" on this one? Any member care to write in and give us your thoughts?

Christian Convert May Lose All Civil Rights and Children

"KUWAIT CITY (CWN) - A Kuwaiti Christian man was put on trial Wednesday on charges that he committed apostasy by converting from Islam to Christianity.

Hussein Qambar Ali, 45, is being sued in Kuwait's family court by three private lawyers seeking to strip him of his civil rights, including his right to a Moslem marriage, custody of his children, and right to inheritance. Ali's marriage broke up last year due to his conversion, and has been unable to keep a job.

Islam provides no penalty for any Moslem who kills a convert to another religion...see "apostasy".

"We believe in Christianity, but we will not permit Mr. Qambar to harm the feelings of Moslems," Mohammad al-Jadai, one of the three plaintiffs, told the court. "He provoked the feelings of Moslems, telling the newspapers about his conversion and distorting Islam's image."

In Islam any sane Moslem who renounces his religion, and persists in doing so after being allowed a chance to repent, loses a range of rights. Islam provides no penalty for any Moslem who kills the convert on the grounds of his apostasy. Jadai said the suit was not aimed at affecting Ali's other rights such as the right to travel or work and was certainly not aimed at seeking his death."

Islamic Scholar Comes to Chico with Message of Peace

The Chico Islamic center hosted a renown Islamic expert, lecturer and prolific book writer, Dr. Ahmad Skar, PHD. Dr. Skar earned his doctorate from the University of Illinois and has lived here since 1962. He said, he wants to help overcome the negative impression many Americans apparently have of Islam. The religion is one of peace, he said. "As a Muslim, I have to be honest and sincere. We are supposed to take care of everyone."

Hmmm...he wants to be honest, that's good, but then he wants us to get over our apparent negative impression we have of Islam? You knew I wasn't going to let that one go unanswered! Ok, let's just say he is a genuine advocate for peace, and I support that, but don't you think he loses a certain amount of his credibility when he says Islam is a religion of peace and we need to get over our misconceptions and then you read about some guy on trial for his life because he dared to convert from Moslem to Christian? Where's the evidence that Islam is or was ever, peaceful?

I'm far from an Islamic expert, but I can read a history book and Islam has a long history of war, oppression and violence. It's been a religion that has demanded conquered people either join them or die. History is full of bloody examples where whole cities have been exterminated in the name of Islam. Conquest of other cultures is part of this religion and who hasn't noticed that modern day terrorists recruit in the name of Islam and use historical references and passages from the Koran to justify their actions for holy war (jihad)? As a Muslim journalist recently noted, "Not all Muslims are terrorists, but nearly all terrorists are Muslims."

Read the Islamic conquest of Southeast Asia. Iran's Chamber Society proudly proclaims the conquest of Iran, as noted in this excerpt from the history of Iran "The Bedouin Arabs who toppled the Sassanid Empire were propelled not only by a desire for conquest but also by a new religion, Islam."

But, what about the Crusades, wasn't that blatant, ruthless, Christian aggession? Yes, it's a popular myth that the Crusaders invaded the peaceful middle east in a huge land grab by power-mad Popes seeking to exterminate a competing religion. If you are one of those who believe that, better do more research. Check out The Real History of the Crusades, By Thomas F. Madden. The Crusades were in most respects a defensive action to block the advance of Islamic armies over Christian lands. Read about the conquest of Spain!

Christians are constantly reminded by liberals that they have plenty of violence and injustice in their history. So why isn't it just as fair to hold Islam accountable for it's growing list of transgressions against humanity?

Don't misunderstand, I absolutely support and endorse any message of peace and anyone willing to work for peace. However, my criticism is, credibility drops when half truths are told. Dr. Skar says Islam is all about peace and taking care of people, when history says otherwise. Better to press for peace and reconciliation with the ugly truth right out in front.

SPECIAL - Tips for the Little Woman

As taken from Housekeeping Monthly, 13 May, 1955.....

*Have dinner ready. Plan ahead, even the night before, to have a delicious meal ready on time for his return. This is a way of letting him know that you have be thinking about him and are concerned about his needs. Most men are hungry when they get home and the prospect of a good meal is part of the warm welcome needed.

*Prepare yourself. Take 15 minutes to rest so you'll be refreshed when he arrives. Touch up your make-up, put a ribbon in your hair and be fresh-looking. He has just been with a lot of work-weary people.

*Be a little gay and a little more interesting for him. His boring day may need a lift and one of your duties is to provide it.

*Clear away the clutter. Make one last trip through the main part of the house just before your husband arrives. Run a dustcloth over the tables.

*During the cooler months of the year you should prepare and light a fire for him to unwind by. Your husband will feel he has reached a haven of rest and order, and it will give you a lift too. After all, catering to his comfort will provide you with immense personal satisfaction.

*Minimize all noise. At the time of his arrival, eliminate all noise of the washer, dryer or vacuum. Encourage the children to be quiet. Be happy to see him.

*Greet him with a warm smile and show sincerity in your desire to please him.

*Listen to him. You may have a dozen important things to tell him, but the moment of his arrival is not the time. Let him talk first - remember, his topics of conversation are more important than yours. Don't greet him with complaints and problems.

*Don't complain if he's late for dinner or even if he stays out all night. Count this as minor compared to what he might have gone through at work.

*Make him comfortable. Have him lean back in a comfortable chair or lie him down in the bedroom. Have a cool or warm drink ready for him.
Arrange his pillow and offer to take off his shoes. Speak in a low, soothing and pleasant voice.

*Don't ask him questions about his actions or question his judgment or integrity. Remember, he is the master of the house and as such will always exercise his will with fairness and truthfulness. You have no right to question him.
and last, but not least...

A good wife always knows her place.

Bush Speech and the Press

The White House press, ever more hostile, made statements couched as questions. Questions that were obviously meant to say, "this an unsupportable elective war; we are creating terrorists where there wouldn't have been otherwise; Iraq is now in a civil war and you did it; Iraq did not have WMDs, you lied; we've created another quagmire; American people don't understand why we are there, yadda, yadda.

And then there was this insane question from Helen "over-the-hill-liberal" Thomas and I am paraphrasing, but it went something like this, "Mr. President why are we really in Iraq? Every previously stated reason has been proven untrue!"

(Every reason proven untrue!!!????)

President Bush tried to deflect this question and instead went on to say how vital it is to develope a "democracy in the neighborhood", in a "region that desperately needs moderation"..., spoken in stammering, half sentences and incomplete thoughts, which made his response seem weaker than the point he was trying to make.

My response to Helen would have went..."Helen, I can't believe after all this time, you could ask such an idiotic question, but you did, so let me restate it for you for what must be the tenthousandth time... (insert "Reasons for the War" - read Coffeesnobs new info too, all right here in Post Scripts)

Bush has made two public appeals for Iraq in two days. His message about terrorists in Iraq could be summarized in a few sentences:
"The terrorists haven't given up," "They're tough-minded. They like to kill. There's going to be more tough fighting ahead. … Yet we're making progress, and that's important for the American people to understand." Bush said.

Hillary for President

Michael J writes us....."Why couldn't Hillary win? The Congressional Democrats may be wussies, on average, but Hillary is tough as nails.

She voted for the Iraq war authorization. She is battle-tested by standing tall through her husband's impeachment.

Husband Bill was Commander in Chief during fantasically successful wars in Bosnia and Kosovo. Did ANY Americans die as result of the hostilites there? Those wars were to remove dictators, to prevent a breeding ground for terrorists, to prevent a widening conflict, and for democracy-building---all the same reasons Bush has come around to in Iraq.

I haven't decided between Hillary or John McCain. But it is ironic that the first legimate women candidate for US president could be considered as tough for national security by this moderate, as the heroic POW McCain."

BORROW AND SPEND IS GOOD? I don't think so!

This is hardly breaking news, but if you listen to Rush, Fox News, Michael Savage, Bill O'Reilly, etc., you know there are a lot of very knowledgeable, well spoken conservatives, saying exactly what I'm saying here: The White House and the GOP Congress are in trouble and they are both running a high risk of losing in the next two elections.

I realize "security" is not the democrats strong suit and so far that single issue (plus the radical loudmouth left) has kept the democrats far behind the GOP's faltering popularity. However, that "fear factor" will only work for a time and absent another 9/11, that time is about up. The GOP needs to make bold reforms from the IRS to our borders. They must take strong, decisive measures to give us both economic and domestic security or risk losing at the ballot box. To date, the GOP has had total control over the White House, Congress and the Senate and what have they done? They have given voters squat when it comes to reform, like fixing the wasteful spending in a growing federal bureaucracy. They were supposed to be the great reformers and downsize government, so what happened?

____________________

Accountability looms, as the reality of the mega spending and the political blunders by President Bush and the GOP take their toll.

But, if you still want to use security as the one major reason to vote for the GOP, then I worry if voters might somehow notice how well the Republicans have protected our southern border from invasion?
____________________

Sure, we can try to excuse this record high spending and the trillions in deficit, to the high cost of running the world's greatest economy and fighting terrorism around the globe; but there's mounting evidence of wasteful "liberal-like" spending and some very obvious holes in our nation's security, beginning right on our border with Mexico.

The CATO Institute is not exactly a bastion of liberal ideologists and here is what they had to say about Bush's spending back in 03:

"The Bush administration's newly released budget projections reveal an anticipated budget deficit of $450 billion for the current fiscal year, up another $151 billion since February. Supporters and critics of the administration are tripping over themselves to blame the deficit on tax cuts, the war, and a slow economy. But the fact is we have mounting deficits because George W. Bush is the most gratuitous big spender to occupy the White House since Jimmy Carter. One could say that he has become the "Mother of All Big Spenders." Not much has changed since that report came out, spending remains an all time high and the blunders have only gotten worse, i.e. “ports sale.

Like I said, I want to be objective and for balance you should also take a look at this article on how it's not the size of the deficit that counts, it's the relationship between GDP and the deficit that really matters. I don't buy it, least not completely and I remain very concerned about the 1.3 trillion green backs held by Japan and China. I don't like us to be a debtor nation, selling off our nation's industrial might, bit by bit, just to buy us an extension of credit in China!

If the GOP loses, as I fear they could, it will be because of an angry voter backlash, not because voters like the democrat's message. This is all about accountability and how else do we get their (politicians) attention? If we are not serious about holding them accountable to their promises, why should they be?

Why the Left Can't Win -Security Issue

CoffeeSnob writes us...."This is why the Left will not get back in power like they were. No matter what comes out about Iraq and terrorism it wont be enough for them. They made their beds and they are screwed.

OBL Sought 'Joint Operations' with Saddam

An Iraqi intelligence document released last week indicates that Osama bin Laden sought to conduct "joint operations" with Saddam Hussein's regime six years before the 9/11 attacks - and was given the green light by the Iraqi dictator.

The document, detailed in the March 27 issue of the Weekly Standard, describes a Feb. 1995 meeting between bin Laden and Iraqi intelligence that was personally approved by "the Honorable Presidency" - an apparent reference to Saddam.

"We discussed with [bin Laden] his organization. He requested the broadcast of the speeches of Sheikh Sulayman al-Uda [who has influence within Saudi Arabia and outside due to being a well known religious and influential personality] and to designate a program for them through the broadcast directed inside Iraq, and to perform joint operations against the foreign forces in the land of Hijaz [Saudi Arabia]."

The document goes on to note that "the Honorable Presidency was informed of the details of the meeting in our letter 370 on March 4, 1995."

The document indicates that Saddam personally granted bin Laden's request for help with propaganda broadcasts and instructed his agents "to develop the relationship [with bin Laden] and the cooperation between the two sides to see what other doors of cooperation and agreement open up."

The 1997 Iraqi intelligence document goes on to report: "Currently we are working to invigorate this relationship through a new channel in light of his present location [Afghanistan]."

The reference by Iraqi intelligence to "joint operations" with bin Laden apparently contradicts one of the 9/11 Commission's most important findings: that Saddam had no "operational relationship" with al Qaeda.

DEMOCRATS COULD WIN SEATS....

The democrats are likely to make significant gains during the next congressional election. I say that only if they can shutup their extreme left membership for two minutes. Those extremists scare people and at times it looks like the whole democratic party has been hijacked by those on the wacky left fringe; look who they have for party Chairman!

But, if the democrats do gain seats, as I suspect they will, it won't be because of they are so wonderful at winning over voters; it will be because voters are mad at the GOP for not living up to their promises! Although, if you challenge them on this, the GOP will be quick to point to a robust economy, low inflation and lots of new jobs. However, the economy is an entity unto itself and it isn't controlled by government. Oh, sure, government can screw it up, but is "not screwing it up" something to take a bow for? If it is, we've lowered the bar once again.

Spending is going to be a big issue and we know Bush and Republicans in Congress have been spending like drunken sailors, a lot of it has been on feel good projects labeled "security."

Bush has been coming off like a big liberal on social spending and throwing money at Hurricane Katrina, despite spending huge amounts for PR, he hasn't bought himself one liberal vote. What a debacle that's been for him and conservatives. A lot of mistakes were made and a lot money wasted. Hardly the image you want going into a congressional race.

Here's an example of what I am talking about..."The government wasted millions of dollars in its award of post-Katrina Hurricane contracts for disaster relief, including at least $3 million for 4,000 beds that were never used, congressional auditors said yesterday.

The Government Accountability Office's review of 13 major contracts -- many of them awarded with limited or no competition after the Aug. 29 hurricane -- offers the first preliminary overview of their soundness. Waste and mismanagement were widespread due to poor planning and miscommunication, according to the five-page briefing paper released yesterday. That led to money being paid for services, such as housing or ice, that were never used."

The Iraq war has had a significant impact on the GOP too (I have a firm grasp of the obvious sometimes). The Bush administration has done a horrific job of communicating with the voters over so many key issues, I hardly know where to begin. Most recently it was the "ports sale." Pushed through with no public discussion, as if not one person in the Bush administration had a clue the public might not like it? Communications or the lack thereof has undermined so much of what might have been good, if only handled slightly more tactfully.

Bush II may go down in history as our worst communicator, ever!

You are Probably Neither Conservative Nor Liberal

Here is some rather unexpected test
