What's a good citizen to do?

Tina writes..."Americans have for many years supported a policy of acceptance, tolerance accomodation and inclusion (regardless of the law). Our motives of convenience, fairness, decency, indifference or a simple desire to see others enjoy the freedom and prosperity we enjoy, might have been well intended but the truth is, we failed to look ahead and anticipate the mess we'd find at the end of that compassion and convenience road.

Following 911 we had the perfect opportunity to address this issue in an atmosphere that would have made perfect political sense but, well, we all know how hindsight works. Now, in these volatile and troubling times, angry threats to tin-eared pandering politicians leaves little room for satisfaction.

What's a good citizen to do? The good news is that the simple act of taking responsibility can be powerful. I, for one, intend to quit complaining and be like gravity. My message to our leaders, "JUST DO YOUR JOB, HAMMER OUT SOLUTIONS, and QUIT PANDERERING, YOU LOOK LIKE A BUNCH OF FOOLS."

United 93

United 93.... it is a movie that every adult American that doesn't have a heart condition should see, I'm absolutely serious...

"September 11, 2001. Four planes were hijacked. Three of them reached their target. This is the story of the fourth.

Plot Outline: A real time account of the events on United Flight 93, one of the planes hijacked on 9/11 that crashed near Shanksville, Pennsylvania when passengers foiled the terrorist plot."

This was the premier opening and the theater was about 30% full, which was disappointing. But, then again this is not a movie for highly emotional people, you would never finish seeing it.

Everyone in the theater was rivited to the events that unfolded before them, some things that came up were relatively unknown facts that added a whole new dimension to what happened. I won't say what, you need to see it for yourself.

This was more than a drama movie, more than entertainment...this was brilliantly done, and a tribute to some incredibly brave Americans.

Go see this movie, you will not be disappointed.

A Letter from A Legal Immigrant

This is a letter from a legal immigrant...

Yes Miranda, we are a nation of (mostly) immigrants. Immigrants who came here to be part of America.

So let’s see, Miranda, you have said about Americans that:

They “need someone or some group to feel superior too
“The Anglo race is scared
“there own race commits crimes against their great nation
“they are not tied to their culture or to any thing that makes them feel proud ...

And you complain that people who are here illegally:

Do “low paying jobs that "white people" feel they are above
Do “not get tax credits and big returns like others

All most of us Americans ask is that people who want to immigrate to America (whether it is from England, Germany or Mexico):

· Do so legally like my grandparents did.

· Obey our laws when they are here.

· Support themselves.

· Learn to communicate and speak the language of our country, English and not insist that we communicate with them in one of the dozens of native tongues that they spoke in the countries they left.

If you don’t agree with these requirements, if you don’t like America and Americans and if you truly believe the racist feelings about Americans and "white people" that you expressed, then leave. Good bye and good riddance!

Signed,

A. Legal Immigrant

Boycott Day or Illegal Invasion Day?

Millions of illegals and their allied protestors are expected to descend on large cities around the United States Monday. They are demanding amnesty for illegals already here, a halt to increased border tightening and relaxing immigration laws.

No buying, no selling, no working and no school attendance is the order of the day.Says one flier found in Chico. To add insult to injury, our brilliant California Senate has just....

rushed through a resolution in support of "Boycott Monday" a nationwide protest designed to hurt American businesses and intimidate lawmakers (like that's real tough) to accommodate the illegals.

From Florida to California, large cities are targeted for protests. The protesters are in effect telling America, "You need us more than we need you." And their boycott is designed to prove it!

Also joining in the protests will be Mexican lawmakers. According to a breaking story, Mexican lawmakers passed a resolution in their lower house in support of the American boycott and many will be traveling to Los Angeles Monday to meet with Mayor Villagroiso and others, as a sign of solidarity.

Los Angeles is expected to be brought to a halt Monday by this protest march which many are now equating with the Civil Rights struggle or Vietnam War protests of the 1960's.

Meanwhile lawmakers in Washington are torn between doing what is right for American vs. Appeasement for a large block of Hispanic voters, (both legal and illegal).

Our politicians understand Hispanics are organized and powerful and this "fear factor" may decide their future immigration vote. If recent speeches by politicians are any indications, it appears the pressure by Hispanics is working. Hillary Clinton has switched to pro-amnesty and is often a keynote speaker at Hispanic rallies that demand a change to the current laws.

They demand...

OPEN BORDERS - IMMEDIATE AMNESTY - FAST TRACK TO CITIZENSHIP!

If you don't like the boycott, thank your federal government. For decades politicians have failed to secure the borders or regulate immigration. The problem we are facing today is 100% the fault of elected federal officials. I blame them long before I would blame illegals or Hispanics in general for only doing what serves them best!, Thier part is very understandable. Unfortunately, that is also what politicians do every day..they do whatever serves them best, absent what might be good for our country and every special interest group with a few loud mouths seem to get their way every time.

__________

I'm really getting sick of all our gutless, self-serving, stupid and corrupt politicians and I'm @X#*$@#% outraged and ashamed of our California Senate! Everyone of those Senators that voted Pro-Boycott ought to be impeached and booted out of office; those rotten son##$%%#@*, they are disgusting...

American First, Hispanic second!

Amanda your letter makes a lot of assumptions about things and about people and why you think you are entitled to roam freely across any border anywhere in the Americas, but you offer absolutely not one shred of proof or reason why?

I will get to each issue you raise in moment, but first I want...

discuss your frequent derogatory use of the word "Anglo's" and "whites."

You said your last name is Herrera and that you are Latino. According to the Instituto Genealógico e Histórico Latino-Americano, Herrera is a Spanish name that originated in the Villa of Pedraza, in the province of Segovia, both in Castile and Leon. It comes from the Spanish word "Herería", meaning a place where ironwork is made or "worker in iron, a blacksmith.

This Castellan surname has a commonality with my surname Lee, isn't that odd? You might wonder, what could that be? Well, these two surnames share a common ancestry...you call that ancestry "anglo"; anthropologists call our mutual race Caucasian or Caucasoid. So when you denigrate "anglos" and point an accusing finger at them, you have three "anglo" fingers pointing back at yourself! lol Please, don't take my word for it, contact your nearest anthropologist for verification, that is, if races means that much to you?

I'm sure there was a time when some Germans would have been stunned to find their common ancestry was the same as the Jews, but that's reality for you, doesn't play favorites, no matter how much you may wish it otherwise.

If you think that is enlightening, just wait till you read what comes next!

You made the assumption that your parents came here to do the work other "white people felt above". I'm "white" and I still do that work, so I'm not too impressed. In fact, tomorrow I'm painting young walnut trees to keep them from getting sunburned. Want to come out to the ranch and help me paint small trees for $7.50 an hour? It's hot, dirty and hard work! Oh, let me guess, "no thanks", right? Hey, I don't blame you! I don't want to do it either, but I have too. Besides, I bet you can do better elsewhere. And here's where I am going with this...when your parents first came here, they did what they could, with what skills they had, and more power to them. You have a right to be proud of them for their struggle, hard work is honorable! I wish more people on welfare could have that character building experience.

If you don't want to do that same hard farm work, are you saying you're "superior" or it's beneath you or are you just saying no because you can get a better job elsewhere?

Getting that better job is something that is happening to most of the Hispanic kids of farm laborers that came here to work on a temporary basis. They don't want to work as hard as their parents for low pay, (duh) they want to better themselves; it's just human nature to feel that way and it's ok! Very few of the younger generation actually want to do hard manual labor on the farm, because they can do something else, unless they own the farm.

People are people, it's not a race thing, Amanda.

You said, "The Anglo race always needs someone or some group to feel superior too..." Again, an unfair stereotype. Uh, Amanda...that's called "bigotry" and you are doing exactly what you accuse "Anglo" people of doing. You are now using a mistaken racial identity to place yourself above another. What is worse, you lose your credibility when you use this race card. You alienate yourself from others by seeing your identity solely as a Latino, not as an American citizen with all the rights, responsbilities and privilages of any other citizen, regardless of their skin color!

Then you say, the "Anglo race is scared because even as we are Americans by birth we hold are culture and traditions close and we support our Native country's our language, are heritage that is rich with culture and we are strong together."

Similar words were probably said a "Leibstandarte-SS" meeting in Germany around 1939. Our race is strong our culture is rich...yours is weak, you are nothing, you are scared, we shall take by force what is rightfully ours...Seig Heil! Seig Heil! C'mon Amanda, that's not really you is it?

Don't you see how you're demonizing and blaming "whites - Anglos" for struggles that many of them went through just like your parents? Why bother to go there?

Think of those Chinese, Irish, Italian, Cuban, etc., all were immigrants, and they faced many hardships, some just a few generations back as they started out, working low paying labor jobs. Then it was your families turn to enter America. They came like everyone else, looking for a better life. They entered on the bottom rung of the ladder, but with determination, hard work, skill and education they did better so you could do better. But, it seems like you are saying you want it all now without making any of the efforts of past generations because you are entitled, but why?

This is the great melting pot society...so melt already, don't try to create an elitist sub-culture bent on destroying the main culture and taking over by force or fear. Thats called robbery and it won't work, it's self destructive. Just like walking off the job for a week. Try it and see how you like being unemployed.

But, by all means, feel free to work for change within the system as a red, white and blue American doing what is best for America, not whats best for just a few and certainly not as a "brown beret" racist! "Ask not what your country can do for you, but you can do for your country." JFK. And while you do this, I hope in your newly acquired wisdom, that you recognize the need for an orderly, fair system of legal immigration just like all the countries around the world subscribe too.

Your idea of "manifest destiny" by race went out about 150 years ago. Time to get up to speed with the real world.

¡Americano primero! ¡Dios bendice América, tierra del libre!

Miranda Herrera on Immigration

Miranda writes...."LET'S REMEMBER THIS COUNTRY WAS FOUNDED BY IMMIGRINTS!!!! Unless you are Native American then someone in your family came from somewhere else and how would they have felt....

had the Native Americans said "Sorry Boarders Closed". I guess only you "Americans" have the right to decide who can come and who can not. My grandparents came to this country in 1966 from Mexico and raised 13 children working in Agriculture low paying jobs that "white people" feel they are above. My uncle, my brother and 6 of my cousins and many of our friends have all been in the service and currently my brother and 4 cousins and 4 of our very close friends (all mexican-american's) are currently fighting in Irac, fighting for a country that is now saying close the boarders. Everyone who works pays taxes does not matter if you are legal or not and those who are not do not get tax credits and big returns like others but continue to work and pay taxes. The Anglo race always needs someone or some group to feel superior too so should we Latinos be suprised??? No. I think all of us Latinos should stop working for one week, stop consumming for one week and let the Anglo race see what an inpact this has on them. If we all minorities stand together we are the majority and together we can make the change. The Anglo race is scared because even as we are Americans by birth we hold are culture and traditions close and we support our Native country's our language, are heritige that is rich with culture and we are strong together. The Anglo's are not, there own race commits crimes against their great nation and they are not tied to their culture or to any thing that makes them feel proud therefore they feel a need to attack those of us who are strong. We will over come this as long as we stay united and strong and America will relize that without immigrants this would not be America. Que Dios nos Bendiga a todos, Y nosotros los Mexicanos y nuestros hermanos y hermanas Latinos ay que mantenernos fruetes y unidos. Juntos se puede todo!"

Note from Jack: I allowed this letter from Miranda to go up, even though it is highly racist, because there is something valuable to be learned from it. No, we are not teaching racism here, we are teaching patriotism and what it means to be a citizen of this nation.

Let's start with this thought first: So, Amanda, if 5 or 10 million or more, non-Mexicans, wanted to come across the border into Mexico and demand equal rights and entitlements paid by Mexican citizens, then it's ok because you say Mexican or Indian people don't believe in borders? Since when?

All those south and central American countries, including Mexico have very well defined borders, you can see them on any map. Why, if they mean nothing? They also have border guards, border check points, border inspections and lests not forget their limited immigration quotas! They all issue passports to their citizens to travel, with restrictions, to and from countries in this continent and beyond. They all have tough laws about illegals and visiting workers and so on and they lock up violators and deport people.

Now, tell me Amanda how does that square with what you want from America? Where is your basis for your demands?

Gasoline Investigations

Former D.O.J. and Attorney Generals Investigator "DHB" writes... "I don't have much confidence in a government investigation, especially since I used to be a government investigator. I even did an investigation...

of gas price fixing one time. When I presented the prosecutors with ample evidence of price fixing, since every station charged exactly the same price and raised prices on exactly the same day, they would not accept the case on the grounds that it may have just been a coincidence. They demanded a witness, preferably a station owner who would testify that he got together with a group of other owners every week and they agreed upon the price. I got so desperate that I argued for a case of false pricing. Have you noticed that every gas station advertises gas for $2.96 and 9/10 per gallon, or $2.97 and 9/10, whatever. There is always that 9/10 on the end of the price. Of course, the USA has no such denomination as 9/10 of a penny, so you cannot actually buy a gallon of gas for the advertised price, anywhere, ever. Needless to say, the prosecutors did not jump at that investigative theory either."

Angry Voters Heard in Washington

As of today, President Bush has called upon the Federal Trade Commission and the D.O.J. to investigate possible price gouging, price fixing, manipulation and collusion within the oil industry.

"WASHINGTON - Responding to growing public frustration over soaring gasoline prices, President Bush called Tuesday for a nationwide investigation into possible price manipulation.

But even as he announced other steps intended to free up gasoline supplies, Bush warned that prices are likely to climb higher. On Capitol Hill, members of Congress called for more drastic action, including a new tax on oil profits or the possible breakup of big oil companies.

"Enough is enough. We have no competition," said Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., who hopes to spark a Senate debate on the structure of the oil industry." San Jose Mercury News.

Also joining the chorus for investigation over high pump prices is the Speaker of the Senate Bill Frist and Denny Hastert, Speaker of the House, plus both minority leaders.

Meanwhile in California, Gov. Arnie asked the Energy Commission to investigate any California oil businesses for possible price gouging, echoing the concerns and sentiments of Washington leaders. "We must not rule out the possibility of market manipulation, price gouging or unfair business practices employed by oil companies," Schwarzenegger said.

Rep. Joe L. Barton (R-Texas) called for a similar probe by the House Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee.

Investigations take a long time, so it could be months before we know what they turn up. In the past the investigations have produced little results, so don't be too optimistic.

WE'RE FROM THE GOVERNMENT AND WE'RE HERE TO HELP

MORE ON THE GASOLINE STORY...

Mallory (a new poster) says our government is actually blocking the importation of clean, low cost ethanol. Now Mallory, are you suggesting our government is doing something really stupid or worse? Unfortunately for consumers, that is exactly what our government is doing.....

Mallory, please go to the head of the class.

Yes, folks there is an abundant supply of sugar based ethanol available from Brazil and it's pre-tax pump price would be around $2.00-$2.20, which sure beats the heck out of what we pay now for polluting gasoline. However, Congress in it's infinite wisdom, imposed a .54 cent tariff on imported ethanol from Brazil, presumably to protect the higher cost domestic ethanol made from corn and of course the HUGE oil lobby. With the heavy fuel tax now imposed on us, that would make imported ethanol just high enough to be impractical for consumers, which is exactly what the oil industry wants to keep their strangle hold over the American consumer.

But, importers may outwit Congress and bring consumers desperately needed $2 a gallon ethanol. The "Caribbean Basin Initiative" or (CBI) allows signatory nations to import duty free. In order to take advantage of this, Brazil would have to build a refinery in a CBI signatory country or use an intermediary nation that is already in the loop like El Salvador and that's just what they are trying to do, as Congress and special interest lobbyists scramble to stop them.

Plum farmers, like a lot of other domestic crops, have been hammered by foreign competition, but no protective tariffs for them and certainly no subsidies. Well, plums are one thing, but what about an industry that is tied to national security? For a lack of protective tariffs, many of our steel mills wound up closing only to reopen in China, yet we block the importation of a clean bio-fuel from a democratic ally, go figure? This is one of those strange situations that can only be explained by following the lobbyists money trail that inevitably leads to somebody's campaign war chest in Congress.

Thoughts on Liberty and Immigration

From Star Parker....LIBERTY"Those who want to hoist the banner of the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island and the American tradition of immigration should remember that when immigrants were passing through Ellis Island at the early part of the last century, the federal government accounted for about 3 percent of the American economy. Today it is 25 percent. Part of the package deal that comes with showing up in the United States today is our welfare state as well as our free economy... Yes, let's encourage freedom. But freedom is a privilege and a responsibility. We have enough people already here who think it's all about entitlement." —Star Parker

The Gasoline Story

If this were back in the days when our forefathers dumped tea into the harbor over a slight increase in a consumption tax, think what they would have done about the current gasoline prices and the nations #1 price gouger, Exxon-Mobil!

"Exxon's power now echoes that of John D. Rockefeller's Standard Oil, the trust whose breakup by the government nearly a century ago spawned not only Exxon and Mobil but also Chevron, Conoco, and Amoco, and marked the beginning of a new era in Washington's regulation of business." ...

As I noted early in "comments," Lee Raymond, Exxon's former CEO, took a fat $400 mil bonus gift for his retirement. Never mind the one billion in salary since 1993. If he is overcompensated, then stockholders can blame the board of directors, they are the watchdogs for investors, but wait...Lee Raymond appointed most of them?

Raymonds case is not all that unusual, oil company CEO's and the executives at the largest oil companies, Exxon-Mobil, Chevron Texaco, Shell, Conoco Phillips and BP, (we call them the BIG FIVE) have been really raking it in thanks to your generousity at the pump. So what's a little $400 mil going away present, there's plenty more where that came from and it's sitting right in your pockets.
Oil company profits went up on average about 75% in 05 and that would be great except it had less to do with the normal forces of supply and demand and good ethical leadership than outrageous price manipulation.

Speaking of supply and demand, gasoline supplies are at an eight year high, says OPEC. And this has more than matched consumption, even taking into consideration China and India.

****"Predatory capitalism" or just good business?****

The members of the exclusive Big 5 Oil Club probably smile all the way to the bank when disaster strikes, be it a refinery fire or war fears, anything that threatens the free flow of oil or impedes the production of gasoline causes retail gasoline prices to rise faster than you can say, bend over.

These crisis' are golden opportunities to exploit. They (oil bosses) instantly send out orders to raise prices at the pump, even though this is gas manufactured under a total different set of circumstances and costs. This is how "gasoline in the ground" at your local station gets near instant price hikes as a refinery fire in Texas or a skirmish in Iraq happens and nobody in government seems bothered by this practice. But, let one hotel chain raise prices for victims fleeing a hurricane and government decends on them like an avenging eagle!

But, what if no good excuse to raise prices is available? Well, there is an unstable group of people who make a good living buying and selling oil "futures" on the world commodity market and by the mere hint of a ripple in the smooth flow of oil, they often panic and drive up prices through speculation and that helps big oil too.

Is big oil ever guilty of helping these speculators yank the market around? Good question, one that only government inquiry could really know for sure. But, if they did, it might go something like this, say a major refinery shuts down for a problem or a safety inspection and the boss says lets not get to quick to get back on line, so it takes longer than expected, this minimally slows production, but it has an exaggerated effect with the ol "greed and panic" boys doing the oil speculating. That's all that is needed to cause commodity speculators to run up spot price of crude and gasoline "futures" and we know it happens, but the precise reasons are a little fuzzy and that's the way the oil companies like it.

Oh, this is a great business to be in, they hold all the good cards. But, don't y-o-u plan on creating your own oil company, because even if you had the mega-bucks it would take, those doors are closed on so many levels you don't stand a chance. Big government is their willing accomplice (some might say dupes) via helpful government regulations which obstructs competition. In this case government is not your friend (are they ever?). Yep, as usual government is part of the problem, not the solution. Did you know since 1981, government has increased gasoline taxes 43.9%? That translates to an additional 45.9 centsfor every gallon you buy at the pump today. There's your government help!

I could spend pages on dumb government and their oil connection, but it comes down to the influence and access money buys (mostly through campaign donations to key legislators). Public records indicate between 2000 and 2004, the oil and gas industry poured more than $75 million into political campaigns...that's a lot of influence buying...gee and you wonder why government doesn't investigate price gouging in the oil business?

As DHB articulated in his post, 20 gallons of gasoline can be produced from one 42 gallon barrel of oil and if I may add, as a bonus they also get 10 gallons of diesel or heating oil. But, wait! There's more (as the TV ads say), they also get 4 gallons of jet fuel, 1.7 gallons of heavy oil and 1.7 gallons of liquefied natural gas LPG. So a 42 gallon barrel of crude oil actually "supplies 44 gallons of petroleum products. This gain from processing the crude oil is similar to what happens to popcorn, it gets bigger after it is popped." The total return from the barrel is about $108 and that is about 32% profit, if they had to buy the oil from someone else for $74, if not, well, thats why they call it black gold.

Obviously, the profit from one barrel of oil, no matter who's stats you use, is still substantial or they would not have those hundreds of billions in corporate profits hanging around after paying the Execs their bonuses and billions in wages.

Unfortunately, since oil is a key economic indicator, this sort of corporate profiteering will eventually translate to significant inflation when thing go bad, as they are now.

Have you ever wondered why up till just the last decade diesel was always the lowest priced fuel and now it sells for as much and sometimes more than premium gasoline? I have, remember diesel is a bi-product of gasoline, so what has changed to make it cost more than regular? The answer is not that much. Mostly the price is top dollar because they can charge "top dollar". This is a bit too predatory for me and it reminds me this is how a monopoly works. The normal market forces have ceases to function as they should when an industry is dominated by too few big companies. It makes it too easy to work in concert, without really (technically) working in concert, if you know what I mean?

Last year we brought you a story about a slip up by one of the refinery CEO's at a gasloine producers convention. Its seems when he told members they had a good thing going and not to be too anxious to raise production, he thought ALL the media had left their room, but one hadn't and so that insider's comments went right into the media and created a minor scandal until the spin doctors did their work and the "influence money" kicked in and it was all fogotten.

****This is what we, the consumers, are up against and it's not a fair fight.****

As if it could get any worse... Citgo is one of the USA's largest refiners, but did you know it's a subsidiary of Venezuela's state-owned oil company, Petroleos de Venezuela S.A. (PDVSA)? This means it basically belongs to Venezuelan Communist leader, Hugo Chávez, one of Castro's closest friends and ally. Venezuela's owns and controls about 6% of the total U.S. refinery capacity and that makes for more instability in our oil supply, a good thing for the "Big 5" and a bad thing for you. This is the cost of being addicted to oil; we have to deal with a lot of unsavory characters, from oil princes to baby killers in Africa and we will continue this relationship and be at their whims until the game changes.

By the way, I didn't lay into OPEC for charging $74 a barrel, because you already know all you need to about those greedy guys, but they are from being let off the hook and they need to have their day of reckoning too.

There are reasonable alternative fuels. Hydrogen has great promise, but at the moment trying to store hydrogen is like trying to wrap marbles with a tennis net, those little hydrogen molecules keep slipping through their containers, but the solution may be close. Next, enthanol, it has its down side, but it works and it may be a decent stop gap measure for now. I know there is at least one South American country that is now completely self sufficient on sugar based fuel, so there are options and I hope as these fuel spikes occur, it motivates us to free ourselves from these unholy alliances with unreliable sources of oil. Till, then a government that really keeps a close eye on fairness and equitable regulatory adherance for consumers would be a nice change of pace.

And before I close, may I suggest... that perhaps it's time for our government to take a look at breaking up some of these mega-mergers that have resulted in too few oil companies and force at least two new refineries to be built for national security. We have too few refineries and that means if any one was knocked out by an attack, it could be a real economic disaster. And that's just what our enemies want; so why should we make it easy for them and besides it would help keep pump prices down...a win, win!

Well, there it is and don't forget to do your part and drive less and avoid the gas guzzlers, that will help bring down gas prices too!

Price Gouging?

As I said earlier I am going to provide some details on what has happened at the pump, but first this post from "DHB" which....

provides you with the most succinct and correct answer possible......

___________
"

Yes, I think it is a pretty clear-cut case of price gouging, monopolies, and price fixing.

After the recent run-up in the price of oil per barrel and the price of gas at the pump, I got to wondering how many gallons of gas are derived from one barrel of oil and whether the increase is proportionate. The answer is, 20 gallons of gasoline per barrel of oil. Okay, do the math. If oil goes up a dollar per barrel, how much should the price of a gallon of gas go up? For those who have only studied under the new math system, where anything goes as long as you feel right about it, I will tell you the answer: 5 cents. According to the reports I have seen, in the past 3 weeks, a barrel of oil has gone from $72 to a "record high" of $75, causing gas at the pump to "soar." Really? Would 15 cents be soaring? Not unless the gas companies jacked it up to 30 or 40 cents. And before anyone starts bringing in extraneous data about the cost of refining, transportation, taxes, etc., remember, none of that has changed in the past 3 weeks. The oil companies justify their increases solely on the cost of crude oil per barrel. It's price gouging, pure and simple. That's why those CEO's are raking in hundreds of millions of dollars per year in salary and stock options."

Gasoline Prices

Average price today: $3.065 and rising

You can point your finger at a lot of things that is causing gas prices to rise, such as the changeover from MTBE gasoline to ethanol or the fear factor over Iran's oil supply (absurd fear), speculators bidding up oil futures, Katrina, lack of refineries, China and India's growing oil demands, etc. So there are a lot of reasons, but one that the oil company can't hide is this:

******RECORD PROFITS!!!!******
Last quarter Exxon racked up a profit of 9.9 billion and that's after they took every possible right-off and paid enormous bonuses to executives.

Last year they made over 36 billion. Now we see Exxon's departing CEO, Lee Raymond, getting a $400,000,000 good-bye gift because they are rolling in the doe, it's cash bonanza time and whatever they can do for each other is just another cost of business write-off to fool the consumers. Maybe Raymond was just a wiz that brought in tremendous profits, so he deserved the big bonus? Not according to most experts. "Exxon's record-breaking US$36-billion in annual profits last year had far more to do with refinery bottlenecks, politically driven tax breaks and geopolitical events than managerial effectiveness." Lee Raymond's regular salary is a mere $49 million a year, up 33% over two years ago.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not against profit, it's what we do in a capitalist society. I'm just against gross profiteering that endangers our economy, national security and rips off consumers in a monopolistic fashion.

The oil cartels and the big 5 oil companies that are gouging you at the pumps can present all sorts of spin reasons why it's not their fault, but the "big 5" have their quarterly reports coming out soon and those record high profits will lead the list of reasons why you and I are paying record high gas prices.

Bush - USA Not Mentioned In Protest!

Believe it or Not: Protestors are not lined up against the United States or Bush! We had to go all the way to Katmandu to find this anomoly, but there it was..."Tens of thousands of protesters marched on the outskirts of the Nepalese capital Kathmandu today, again defying a government-imposed curfew a day after security forces opened fire on demonstrators."

Not one "down with America" sign was seen and there were no burning US flags. This was a pro-democracy rally, hard to believe, I know. I was stunned to see a mass of people without seeing something about hating Bush or the USA.

At least three big rallies were reported today on the ring road that circles Kathmandu, and which falls within the curfew zone. An Associated Press photographer saw at least 50,000 protesters march from the Gangabu area..."

It's a Tough Job!

The Presidents poll numbers have slipped to an all time low, according to Fox News, which is the most credible news source for conservative voters.

"Among the 57 percent of those polled who disapprove of Bush's performance, almost half, 48 percent, gave the Iraq War as the major reason.

That was followed by "doing a bad job" at 24 percent, disagreement on issues, 22 percent, and the economy and jobs, 17 percent. Among Democrats, 11 percent approve today, while 14 percent approved last April."

Among the hottest issues confronting Bush...

Immigration and border control
Iraq war
China's growing competition at all levels
Iran's nukes
Katrina rebuild
National security
Deficit spending
North Korea nukes
Fragile oil supplies, high fuel costs and ANWAR drilling

Kind Advice on Immigration from Augustin Cebada

Mr. Cebada (A Brown Beret Activist) advocates European decendants of the original immigrants, I suppose this would include folks in the D.A.R. and S.A.R., that it would be great if they could only retrace their ancestors historic routes in order to relive some of that history and thereby gain a new perspective on todays immigration problem. Mr. Cebada, ever the diplomat, goes on to encourage folks, especially the elderly, just "get out" and travel! Why, it's virtually their duty before they die, he says.

That was the news media version. Mr. Cebada's precise words, for those of you who are sticklers for such things, are and I quote from his most recent speech: "Go back to Plymouth Rock, Pilgrims! Get out! We are the future. You are old and tired. Leave like beaten rats, you old white people. It is your duty to die... We are going to take over."

--Augustin Cebada, a Brown Beret.

Well, there you go, advice from a patriot and lover of the American dream. Anybody making travel plans? Perhaps we should make travel plans for Mr. Cebada, afterall it was his idea? I say we contact your Congressman and see what we can do about travel for Mr. Cebada, starting by checking his green card.

Another Gasoline Boondoggle

Ah, MTBE's are causing gasoline shortages now, isn't that great? Oil officials are pointing to the fact that a so-called fuel cleaner, There's not a shortage of supply," said John Eichberger, a spokesman for the gasoline group. "It's a transitional issue."....

MTBE, imposed a few years back by government turns out to be a ground water polluter, so it was pulled from production and the brilliant government officials that brought MTBE decided that Ethanol should be added in place of MTBE and they gave a deadline for that to happen...which is now. One problem, all the gasoline holding tanks had to be prep'd first and it's become a clogged up mess in the transition.

Because ethanol is a solvent, it will strip corrosion and impurities that build up inside gasoline storage tanks, allowing them to mingle with gasoline supplies.

That means terminal operators must drain giant tanks that hold gasoline stocks and scrub out the impurities before they can be refilled with ethanol-enriched gasoline, he said.

"That's going to compromise supplies for awhile," he said.

The American Petroleum Institute said 40 percent of the gasoline produced in the United States by the first week of April was blended with ethanol, up from 33 percent a year ago."

WHY?

A mother asked President Bush,
"Why did my son have to die in Iraq?"

Another mother asked President Kennedy,
"Why did my son have to die in Viet Nam?" ...

Another mother asked President Truman,
"Why did my son have to die in Korea?

Another mother asked President F.D. Roosevelt,
"Why did my son have to die at Iwo Jima?"

Another mother asked President W. Wilson,
"Why did my son have to die on the battlefield of France?"

Yet another mother asked President Lincoln,
"Why did my son have to die at Gettysburg?"

And yet another mother asked President G. Washington,
"Why did my son have to die near Valley Forge?"

Then long, long ago, a mother asked...
"Heavenly Father, why did my Son have to die
on a cross outside of Jerusalem
?"

The answers to all these are similar -- "So that others may
have life and dwell in peace, happiness and freedom."

Thoughts About High Fuel Prices

Robert Hughes writes us...."Why do we pay higher prices for the fuel that is already in the tanks in the ground?...

We the small business owners are getting the bad end of the stick because without fuel we don't operate but the government won't do anything about it but the oil companies give retirement packages of over 4Mil for people who fight for the increase in prices in congress. Well lets look for some better ways to do business let's slow down our buying of fuel and only go where it is necessary to go and not just riding around. or vacationing this will also hurt us but the big hurt will be on the oil companies."

_____________________
Robert, thank you for saying what is on so many of our minds! Yes, conservation is definitely part of the answer and it may be our only immediate answer.

However, we have this growing industrial giant that is consuming more and more Arab oil and throwing supply and demand out of balance. This giant, as you probably have guessed, is China. In theory, the Chinese could consume all the Arab oil and still not have enough to meet their demand in just a few short decades. If you don't like the prices now, guess what that will do to oil prices in the coming years?

Conservation is always a worthy effort and certainly one that could be a reasonable stop gap solution for now. But, what we really need to start looking for is a reliable, replenishable source of clean fuel. You would think with all our technological skill we could have come up with an alternative fuel by now? I think we would have except it was too easy to just pump cheap oil out of the ground, but those days are over.

Now more than ever, it's in our economic and more importantly our national security interests, to free our dependence on unreliable and corrupt foreign suppliers of oil, like the baby killers in Nigeria, the Communists in Venezuela or precocious Saudi Princes'. We don't need those sort of entanglements. And the sooner we can tell them shove it where the sun never shines the better off we will be!

$3 a gallon for fuel should be all the incentive we need to develop a good alternative to carbon based gasoline fuel. Ethanol (made from corn) is a good start until we can do better and I know we can, we have too or kneel before OPEC and take whatever they deal out.

Iran's Nuclear Chronology

The idea of a nuclear reactor in Iran is actually not as new as the media has led you to believe. In fact it was the Shaw of Iran who started the first nuclear reactor construction in 1974, "Siemens", a German company, began work at Bushehr for two reactors. When the 1979 Iranian revolution started, worked stopped.

To paraphrase an ABC News and REUTERS who compiled a timeline, I present this summarized chronology, it really puts in perspective the delimea facing the IAEA, United Nations, Isreal and the United States...

1985-1987, Iran begins it's first centrifuge enrichment program.

1991, Iran secretly imports one ton of uranium from China. Neither country reports the transfer to the IAEA which is supposed to occur according to a 1968 nuclear proliferation treaty they both signed.

1995, one reactor is nearly 98% finished and one is about 50% finished at Bushehr, Russian's are now doing the work.

1999, Iran tests nuclear centrifuges used for refining uranium to fissionable material.

2001, Natanz, Iran, two facilities spring up, one an enrichment plant that will eventually hold 1,000 centrifuges and that will contain about 50,000 centrifuges, again, for refining uranium to fissionable material.

August 14, 2002, Iran's Nuclear Program surfaces for the world to know and the National Council Of Resistance Of Iran holds press conference in Washington D.C. and talks openly about it.

October 2003, Iran tells the media it conducted "a limited number of tests using small amounts of UF6" in 1999 and 2002.

Nov. 10, 2003, Iran reacts to growing world pressure and the Nuclear Treaty they signed and announces they will allow thorough UN inspections and they will accept "enhanced safeguards". The new "Protocol" calls for unannounced inspection of facilities. Iran signs the Protocol on Dec. 18, 2003.

Nov. 15, 2004, Iran says it will suspend uranium enrichment while they engage with further talks with UN regulators.

March 7th, 2005, Vice President Cheney warned of “meaningful consequences if Iran “stays on its present course. He stressed that “the United States is keeping all options on the table in addressing the irresponsible conduct of the regime. And he said: “We join other nations in sending that regime a clear message: We will not allow Iran to have a nuclear weapon.

April 20, 2005, George Bush refuses to rule out a nuclear strike against Iran, if diplomacy fails to halt Iran's nuclear program.

August 2005, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is installed; Iran promises "irreversible" resumption of weaponized uranium enrichment. "August 15, Iran removes IAEA seals from uranium hexafluoride conversion lines at Esfahan."

September 24, 2005, the IAEA Resolution finds Iran in noncompliance with its NPT obligations but defers referral to UN Security Council to give EU-3-led diplomacy an opportunity to work.

January-February 2006, Iran breaks IAEA seals at Natanz and resumes uranium enrichment.

March 2006, March 24 - Diplomats say Iran is rapidly expanding uranium enrichment program.

March 21 2006, President Bush sent a warning to Iran, "I've made it clear that we will use military might to protect our ally Israel"

April 12 2006, Ahmadinejad says Iran has enriched uranium to a level used in power stations. This draws rebukes from world powers, including Russia and China.

April 16, 2006, Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad launched a new attack on Israel yesterday, calling it "a rotten, dried tree" that could be knocked over by "a single storm".

April 18th, 2006, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad warned that Iran's military must be prepared amid escalating tensions.

April 19th, 2006, "Reuters - Oil held above $72 a barrel on Wednesday on fears Iran's intensifying dispute with the West may lead to a supply cut from the world's fourth largest exporter."

The chronology is is very ominous and you can see the escalation in rhetoric, but the more you known about Iran's President, the scarier this story becomes. He sees himself as a pillar of Islam, doing Allah's bidding and is therefore he is infallible in his own mind. While speaking to military officers at a parade marking Army Day, Ahmadinejad said, "Today, you are among the world's most powerful armies because you rely on God." "Iran's enemies know your courage, faith and commitment to Islam and the land of Iran has created a powerful army that can powerfully defend the political borders and the integrity of the Iranian nation and cut off the hand of any aggressor and place the sign of disgrace on their forehead."

If there is a bright note here, it is Iran's dependancy on oil to support it's economy. It is unlikely even Ahmadinejad would do anything to stop the flow of oil, even if they suffered an Israeli or US air stike on their nuclear facility.

We Revolted Once, Could It Ever Happen Again?

Do you think it's possible to have another revolution in America and if so, what would cause it?

I thought this was an interesting question when it came up on the Michael Savage talk show. Savage, presented a scenario that went something like this: He said, let's say we have a suitcase nuke that goes off in a major American city and we find out that it was thanks to terrorists walking across the southern border, the outrage would be off the charts and anything could happen. Savage rationalizes the government would be rightly blamed for failing to protect the border as has been long demanded by the people! There would then be zero confidence in the President's ability to govern and the military would likely come forward as a last resort to restore order and save the country from anarchy.

Ok, an extreme act of terrorism is one scenario, but I'm sure there are many, many more trigger points (no pun intended). How much fleecing of American taxpayers would it take to push us all over the edge? Certainly their exists some point of burden at which even the most loyal taxpayer will say enough? Would that come at say 60% or 70% taxation or even more? Studies say when taxes hit around 70% governments generally come tumbling down, then again a fair number of socialist countries from Sweden to France are getting really close to that number and no grumbling is heard from them.

This government spends at the rate of about a million bucks every 3.5 seconds, but our GDP is such that we still only pay about 22% tax on average. So we have it pretty good by comparison to the socialists countries. However, a sudden leap to 70% taxation might be shocking enough to kindle something, but if it comes in a long slow boil to 70% I don't know.

Here's another thought. If liberals had not championed gun control and set the example by disarming themselves, I think they would have started a revolt about 10 minutes after Bush was re-elected. I say that because the mere praising of "W", in a crowd of liberals would draw more fire than a Hatfield in a red suit at a McCoy bar-b-que.

Now remember, this is just a theoretical exercise, nobody is advocating anything, we're just talking, ok? It a case of looking at cause and effect and every day hot button issues. Your turn, any thoughts?

Montebello High in So Cal

1.jpg

"....in your face George Bush, look at my people, we have another student uprising at Montebello High School

in Southern California.

Our brave jihadists removed your filthy American flag and hang it upside down in disgrace under their Mexican flag. Our struggle is their struggle and it makes me so proud to see this being done to your flag George Bush. It is a beautiful thing, is it not? Allah U ak bar! This is Osama bin Laden for Al Jazeera news, reporting live and on scene, now have a nice day!"

MUSD SCHOOL OFFICIALS CLARIFY MISREPRESENTATION OF MONTEBELLO HIGH SCHOOL On Monday, March 27, 2006 at noontime, a group of students from neighboring school districts to the east of Montebello (i.e. El Rancho Unified School District and Whittier Union High School District) marched to Montebello High School (MHS). At this time, MHS was on lockdown and the students remained in their classrooms. The other students, from outside Montebello Unified School District, who were estimated to be 800-1000 strong, gathered outside the MHS campus. For a brief time, the school flag was lowered, replaced with a Mexican flag, and the American flag flown beneath, upside down. It is important to emphasize that this was not the act of any Montebello High School student.

(Note...Ok, so OBL really wasn't there, that part is a spoof to make a point; but I'm sure he would have said something similar and been just as proud. The rest of the picture is unfortunately very real. Every student taking part in this school invasion should be charged with a crime ( there is a range of offenses to choose from) and if they were here illegally they should be deported immediately.)

Sedition & Terrorism

From the raging debate in comments in the "Australia" post, Tasker asked: "...the point of the original post seemed to be that America's leaders should kick out our radical Islamic clerics because they are trying to force their Islamic laws upon us. I am asking you which clerics you are talking about?"

Tasker your question does not reflect my intention. Let's go back to the basics so there is no misunderstanding (if that is ever possible! lol). In order to do that, I have to go back in history to July 14th, 1798, when President John Adams signed into law the "Alien and Sedition Acts." The surviving limits of that act is what I would like to see enforced to protect our country.

Cont-

The "Alien and Sedition Acts" was broken down into four separate acts/laws that were somewhat similar to existing laws in Canada and England. One of the acts is still relevant and still on the books: "The Alien Friends Act authorized the President to deport any alien considered dangerous, in both war and peacetime."

The "sedition" act was struck down early on. It basically said, persons engaging in deliberately scandalous and malicious writing or knowingly making false statements against the President and Congress in an attempt to undermine their authority is a crime. Fortunately for so many on left today, the sedition part was repealed, thanks to Thomas Jefferson. However, similar, but even more harsh laws still remain in force in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and England to name but a few.

The defense to this (sedition) libel law is truth, which seems reasonable to me. And this ties in with Australia's sedition laws that were amended in December 2005, by updating definitions and increasing penalties under the premise of anti-terrorism legislation.

Now lets try to get to the heart of your question and concern... I would like to see any individual or group, as may be represented by, but not limited to, any religious organization, social club or political organization or combination thereof, that does (1) knowingly and willfully, lend support,(financial aid or physical efforts) to or on behalf of, a terrorist or terrorist group or (2) deliberately lobbies for the violent overthrow of this government or (3) encourages by speech or deed, terrorist acts to be committed against a person/s or against public or private property, shall be subject to arrest, detention and/or deportation, regardless of their citizenship status. The penalties for such, should be commensurate with the offense, as may be deemed appropriate by lawful legislation and or a vote of the people.

You asked a specific question and you got a specific answer. Now please don't try to parse words or create a diversion. I expect you to honor your question by accepting this as my answer, which is not to say you necessarily agree with it, even though you should.

Minimum Wage

"THE MOST important thing for any poor person trying to improve his or her condition is, of course, a job. It is the entry-level job that accords impoverished workers — even those with no skills, no references and no employment record — the invaluable opportunity to succeed and to prosper. It is literally the first rung up the ladder of success.

If that is true, then the most vicious governmental policy would be one that eliminates entry-level jobs, making it harder for the poor to get a foothold in life. Yet that is precisely what the state of California is preparing to do. Legislation is now moving through the Legislature that would in effect declare that anyone whose labor is worth less than $7.75 an hour will be denied entry-level employment." Tom Mclintock

Illegal Immigrants - And Racist Idiots

From a person who wishes to remain anonymous....

"It is sad to hear some ignorant idiots speak about immigrants as being criminals.

To Tasker, if you go back into history I'm sure that in your family ancestry your family is composed of immigrants, the only legal people in this country are Native Americans. And to Jack Lee, have you ever been to a labor field and see how the crops are harvested, or are you just speaking out of your XXX.

If machines were capable of doing all the harvesting for fruits and crops, don't you think there would be some by now? I'm a US citizen, I have worked the fields, and never in my life have I seen a caucasian trying to bust their XXs to do this type of work.

FYI immigrants may not file their income taxes at the end of the year because they don't have the legal means to do so, but they do take taxes out of their pay checks, and they do pay taxes for everything they consume, and you know those millions of dollar that go unclaimed at the IRS level, a certain percentage belongs to immigrants whom are unable to claim it.

I thought racism was over in America, but it is sad to still have to deal with ignorants like a few people in this webpage.

Signed, Anonymous

______________

Dear Anonymous,

You begin by calling us idiots, great way to start a conversation. Then you said, "And to Jack Lee, have you ever been to a labor field and see how the crops are harvested" Not only have I seen it I still work there, you are talking to a part-time farm laborer (walnut farmer).

You said, "never in my life have I seen a Caucasian trying to bust their arces to do this type of work." Like I said, I have worked in the "fields" beside Hispanics, doing the same job. I was doing that 45 years ago and now, in my semi-retirement, I'm doing it again, only this time I am not quite as fast. But, what has this got to do with the law that forbids illegal entry into the United States?

True, farmers and most recently, construction bosses appreciate "legal" Hispanic workers and they like to hire them. We ALL support them. As taxpayers we do this via temporary worker permits, improved labor laws, OSHA protection, disability insurance, tax refunds, drivers licenses, NAFTA, etc.

America is incredibly generous, but we do have a problem with an open border where millions of workers, bums, terrorists, drug dealers and who-knows-who, can just walk in anytime. Yet, that is ok with you, anonymous American citizen? If people like me dare to object, you play the race card! OK, then if a secure border is racist why don't you call all Mexican's racists? In Mexico they capture and arrest illegals coming their southern border from Central America all the time. They lock them up in terrible detention camps which Amenesty International calls inhumane and without basic human rights. Mexico also has their military keeping their southern border closed down, as well as numerous law enforcement agencies assigned to catch border violators.

Next. Whatever taxes the illegals might leave behind comes no where close to the costs they generate by being here illegally. Check it out. The facts are there if you care to look, but obviously you haven't.

Let me cite just one example of a real serious problem area thanks to illegals. Illegals know the one place they can get medical help instantly with no questions is the hospital emergency room, so they go there and tie up the staff...then they skip out and don't pay. We've closed hospitals all along the border thanks to this medical version of the "dine and dash." There are just soooooo many problems that come from illegals, I could go on for a 100 pages and cite all kinds of statistical facts, but most of us are on statistical overload trying to be real with people like yourself. Let me sum it up like this......

NOW NOBODY HERE IS TALKING ABOUT IMMIGRATION OR IMMIGRANTS. GOT THAT? NOBODY. THAT IS NOT THE ISSUE! IT'S ABOUT...

....people coming up from Mexico illegally. They are creating a big problem, because they sneak into America and that means they are making a mockery of orderly, controlled, immigration that has served us well for 200 hundred years.

This new invasion by millions upon millions of illegals is a national security risk and it's a huge economic burden that is creating an isolated subculture of poor, non-english speaking people. That is really dangerous. What rational, thinking person could argue otherwise?

Illegals are overloading our whole system and that includes costly safety nets. This "overload" is depriving the citizens who paid for those safety nets! We just don't have enough to take care of everybody in the world that wants to be here. How can we justify saying, "Ok all Mexican citizens get a free pass to come in anytime and you people from Europe, China or Africa, you wait in line?

To be concerned about this is to be a responsible citizen. Americans, no matter where they came from, should all be on the same side on this one. If they aren't, then they really have their priorities, if not their loyalties, confused and they need to wise up or take a hike.

On a lighter note, here's a funny letter someone coincidentally sent on this very subject....

"Dear President Bush:

I'm about to plan a little trip with my family and extended family, and I would like to ask you to assist me. I'm going to walk across the border from the U.S. into Mexico, and I need to make a few arrangements. I know you can help with this.

I plan to skip all the legal stuff like visas, passports, immigration quotas and laws. I'm sure they handle those things the same way you do here.

So, would you mind telling your buddy, President Vicente Fox, that I'm on my way over? Please let him know that I will be expecting the following:

1. Free medical care for my entire family.

2. English-speaking government bureaucrats for all services I might need, whether I use them or not.

3. All government forms need to be printed in English.

4. I want my kids to be taught by English-speaking teachers.

5. Schools need to include classes on American culture and history.

6. I want my kids to see the American flag flying on the top of the flag pole at their school with the Mexican flag flying lower down.

7. Please plan to feed my kids at school for both breakfast and lunch.

8. I will need a local Mexican driver's license so I can get easy access to government services.

9. I do not plan to have any car insurance, and I won't make any effort to learn local traffic laws.

10. In case one of the Mexican police officers does not get the memo from Pres. Fox to leave me alone, please be sure that all police officers speak English.

11. I plan to fly the U.S. flag from my house top, put flag decals on my car, and have a gigantic celebration on July 4th. I do not want any complaints or negative comments from the locals.

12. I would also like to have a nice job without paying any taxes, and don't€™t enforce any labor laws or tax laws.

13. Please tell all the people in the country to be extremely nice and never say a critical word about me, or about the strain I might place on the economy.

I know this is an easy request because you already do all these things for all the people who come to the U.S. from Mexico. I am sure that Pres. Fox won't mind returning the favor if you ask him nicely.

Thank you so much for your kind help."

You know you are living in 2006 when...

1. You accidentally enter your password on the microwave.
2. You haven't played solitaire with real cards in years.
3. You have a list of 15 phone numbers to reach your family of 3.

4. You e-mail the person who works at the desk next to you.
5. Your reason for not staying in touch with friends and family is that they don't have e-mail addresses.
6. You pull up in your own driveway and use your cell phone to see if anyone is home to help you carry in the groceries.
7. Every commercial on television has a web site at the bottom of the screen.
8. Leaving the house without your cell phone, which you didn't have the first 20 or 30 (or 60) years of your life, is now a cause for panic and you turn around to go and get it.
10. You get up in the morning and go on line before getting your
coffee.
11. You start tilting your head sideways to smile. : )
12. You're reading this and nodding and laughing.
13. Even worse, you know exactly to whom you are going to forward this message.
14. You are too busy to notice there was no #9 on this list.
15. You actually scrolled back up to check that there wasn't a #9 on this list.
AND NOW U R LAUGHING at yourself.

In the News Today

The European Union says it will no longer use the phrase "Islamic Terrorism" to describe attacks carried out by Muslims. Instead, EU press releases will use phrase "terrorists who abusively invoke Islam." Brit Hume 4/12/06.

He also notes, that "Islamist," "Fundamentalist," and "Jihad" references will also be banned. Presumably, this is an appeasement effort by the liberal EU to avoid provoking a violent confrontation with the majority of so-called "moderate" Muslims.

Speaking of provocation and violence, if you look at almost any hotspot in the world, you will find Islamic fundamentalists involved. That's just a fact. So, I'm not quite as concerned about offending them, as I am for telling it like it is. If they (EU or Muslims) have a problem with that, then they need to make some changes, not the news reporters.

As a parting observation, this blogger has observed Muslims remain silent time after time, never protesting nor showing moral outrage when Islamic-terrorists commit murderous bombings on innocent people, but draw one little cartoon the wrong way... well, again, they need to make some changes, serious changes or face a growing worldwide comdemnation and all that goes with it.

In other news...

"A Florida city councilman is refusing to take the oath of office to "support, protect and defend the Constitution and the government of the United States," saying he can't support a government with "immoral and unlawful policies."

Basil Dalack, a Democrat who has called for impeaching President Bush and Vice President Cheney for war crimes, says pledging to support the current administration would put the "blood of all those Iraqi and American kids on my hands."

Liberals Know No Shame

"From exploiter Michael Moore's website, Media Moth Cindy Sheehan on why she couldn't use part of the $250,000 death benefit paid by the insurance to get her son a gravestone.

Australia Draws the Line for Muslims

"STAND UP FOR WHO WE ARE, NOT WHAT OTHERS WANT US TO BE!!!"

CANBERRA - The Capital of Australia: Muslims who want to live under Islamic Sharia law were told on Wednesday to get out of Australia, as the government targeted radicals in a bid to head off potential terror attacks. A day after a group of mainstream Muslim leaders pledged loyalty to Australia at a special meeting with Prime Minister John Howard, he and his ministers made it clear that extremists would face a crackdown.

"Basically, people who don't want to be Australians, and they don't want to live by Australian values and understand them, well then they can basically clear off!"

Treasurer Peter Costello hinted that some radical clerics could be asked to leave the country if they did not accept that Australia was a secular state and its laws were made by parliament. "If those are not your values, if you want a country which has Sharia law or a theocratic state, then Australia is not for you," he said on National Television.

"I'd be saying to clerics who are teaching that there are two laws governing people in Australia, one the Australian law and another, the Islamic law, that this is false. If you can't agree with Parliamentary Law, independent courts, democracy, and would prefer Sharia law, and have the opportunity to go to another country which practices it, perhaps, then, that's a better option," Costello said.

Asked whether he meant radical clerics would be forced to leave, he said those with dual citizenship could possibly be asked move to the other Country.

Education Minister Brendan Nelson later told reporters that Muslims who did not want to accept local values should "clear off".

"Basically, people who don't want to be Australians, and they don't want to live by Australian values and understand them, well then they can basically clear off," he said.

Separately, Howard angered some Australian Muslims on Wednesday by saying he supported spies monitoring the nation's mosques.

BRITS, AMERICANS and CANADIANS...ARE YOU LISTENING?

This is Leadership with guts! The way it is. The way it should be.

GAS BOYCOTT HOAX

Tired of the oil companies sticking it to you? Tired of watching as gas prices inch toward $3 a gallon? Well, here is a smart boycott that could really work!....

It's a [selective boycott] targeting just the major gasoline producers that have made obscene profits.

When they start feeling the pressure of a consumer boycott, what can they do but lower prices to lure customers back, right? Two words come to mind...PRICE WAR.

Sounds good, huh? Well, the internet letter is a fraud, but worse yet the idea is flawed, check this out: Economics Prof. Pat Welch of St. Louis University says any boycott of "bad guy" gasoline in favor of "good guy" brands would have some unintended (and unhappy) results.

. . . Welch says the law of supply and demand is set in stone. To meet the sudden demand, he says, "the good guys would have to buy gasoline wholesale from the bad guys, who are suddenly stuck with unwanted gasoline."

So motorists would end up . . . paying more for it, because they'd be buying it at fewer stations. And yes, oil companies do buy and sell from one another. Mike Right of AAA Missouri says, "If a company has a station that can be served more economically by a competitor's refinery, they'll do it."

Right adds, "In some cases, gasoline retailers have no refinery at all. Some convenience-store chains sell a lot of gasoline — and buy it all from somebody else's refinery."

A boycott of a couple of brands of gasoline won't result in lower overall prices. Prices at all the non-boycotted outlets would rise due to the temporarily limited supply and increased demand, making the original prices look cheap by comparison. The shunned outlets could then make a killing by offering gasoline at its "normal" (i.e., pre-boycott) price or by selling off their output to the non-boycotted companies, who will need the extra supply to meet demand. The only person who really gets hurt in this proposed scheme is the service station operator, who has almost no control over the price of gasoline.

The only practical way of reducing gasoline prices is through the straightforward means of buying less gasoline, not through a simple and painless scheme of just shifting where we buy it. The inconvenience of driving less is a hardship too many people apparently aren't willing to endure, however.

Now here is the updated variation of the letter going around the net...

"Join the resistance!! I hear we are going to hit close to $ 4.00 a gallon by next summer and it might go higher!! Want gasoline prices to come down? We need to take some intelligent, united action. Phillip Hollsworth offered this good idea. This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain day" campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to "hurt" ourselves by refusing to buy gas. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them. BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really work. Please read on and join with us!

By now you're probably thinking gasoline priced at about $1.50 is super cheap. Me too! It is currently $2.79 for regular unleaded in my town. Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at
$1.50 - $1.75, we need to take aggressive action..." to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace..not sellers. With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of gas come down is if we hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their gas! And, we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves.

How? Since we all rely on our cars, we can't just stop buying gas. But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to force a price war. Here's the idea: For the rest of this year, DON'T
purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest companies (which now are one), EXXON and MOBIL. If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Exxon and Mobil gas buyers. It's really simple to do! Now, don't wimp out on me at this point...keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of
people!!

I am sending this note to 30 people. If each of us send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300) ... and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 =3,000)...and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth group of people, we will have reached over
THREE MILLION consumers.

If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it..... THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!"

Supervisorial Candidates At RPEA Meeting

The California Retired Public Employees Association held a candidates forum at Manzanita Place (Elks Lodge) for the supervisorial race. The three candidates, Maureen Kirk, Chuck Kutz and Steve Bertagna gave opening speeches followed by a Q & A time.

Attendees' comments were very favorable of all three candidates, as one member summed it up, "We're lucky to have three good people like this running. I think they want to make it a clean a race." Many of the RPEA people (about half) said based soley on todays performance, they really couldn't tell who they wanted and took a wait and see attitude.

An unofficial straw poll came out like this: Kirk 22%, Bertagna 20% and Kutz at 17%, with about half being undecided. Once again, the numbers were very close, but this time the victory went to Kirk. Today's audiance was largely in the democratic camp and that gave the advantage to Kirk, viewed as the most moderate of the three.

The consensus of RPEA members interviewed felt Bertagna was probably the most well informed of the three, they just didn't like his unabashed, conservative politics and would rather vote for Kirk.

EXPERIENCE, ENDORSEMENTS AND SUPPORTERS....

Steve Bertagna is the most politically experienced candidate, thanks to his service on the Chico City Council. He also has a substantial base of established, long term supporters, the endorsements of Assemblymen Keene-R and LaMalfa-R, as well as his conservative colleagues on the Chico City Council.

Maureen Kirk has the endorsement of outgoing Supervisor Mary Ann Houx-R and her own bastion of very loyal supporters left over from her last council race. Kutz, the political newcomer, has not received any official group endorsements and is currently working to develop his base of support, however he acknowledge to the audience he has been well received in the past by both state and local officials he's known through various water conservancy projects and is confident he could establish good working relationships with them.

MONEY....

Kirk has indicated she's raised about $27k from about 900 small donations, Bertagna has somewhere in the area of $30-35k received from his long time council supporters, friends and family members. Kutz didn't disclose an amount, but he indicated that all the money he has raised to date has come from his own pocket or from his family.

The FPPC disclosures listing the campaign contributions are not required to be made public yet, but when they are, you will get the results right here.

Stupid Quote From College Professor

Our quote of the week comes from prestigious Baylor's, Joan Supplee, associate history professor, when she said, "Criminalizing illegal immigration is wrong, and it won't work!"

PS Hey, Professor I hate to break it to you, but the word "illegal" by it's very definition means a "criminal act aka criminalizing" or it would be called... l-e-g-a-l. If illegal immigration were not criminalized it would be legal immigration! Is that what you want? Wide open borders, no controls, anyone can march in and squat and we're stuck with them and whatever problems they bring?

Enforcement of illegal immigration is NOT wrong, although it has been very lax, granted. But, that part stems mostly because of twits like you....which I tend to catagorize as "educated idiots" and that includes many of our elected leaders.

Global Genocide Is The Answer + Flag Risk

lizman.bmp

Dr. Eric R. Pianka aka the Lizzard man is from the University of Texas at Arlington and he recently gave a speech before the Texas Academy of Science that supported using airborn biological warfare to exterminate approximately 6.2 billion people around the world. His favorite method of mass destruction, one of the most terrible diseases ever known to mankind...ebola. His crazy liberal colleagues gave this nut a long, standing ovation! Later in a banquet attended by 400 people, the president of the Texas Academy of Science presented him with a plaque naming him 2006 Distinguished Texas Scientist!

NEXT...

In other areas of academia, high schools students in some predominently Hispanic areas of Southern California are being warned not to bring American flags to school. "It's for your own good," as one principal put it. "If they bring the American flag, then someone else might bring the Mexican flag and then it's used for an emotional one-upsmanship. Better nobody brings any flags!" This is your liberal cultural sensitivity at work, this is the big payoff for our tolerance and our empathy to every other culture but our own ... KEEP YOUR STUPID AMERICAN FLAGS AT HOME OR YOU MIGHT GET HURT!

This is unbelievable...what's happened to our country?

Katie Who?

A letter from Coffeesnob, who writes...."The media is acting like Katie Couric moving to ABC is a big deal. Had they made the move before the liberal media tanked, then the move would have some meaning. This is nothing but a stunt, it isn't even a risk for ABC. Couric cant do any harm to ABC news because it cant get much worse. She is the biggest liberal POS they could have found for the job. If ABC were really looking to fix the mess they are in, they would have hired someone less divisive. She doesn't even bother to hide her hate for the Right or for President Bush. She wouldn't know the truth if it walked up and beat her between the eyes with a two x four (come on truth). I have not watched network news in years and she sure isn't going to bring me back. I am sure I am not alone in my feelings on this issue."

PC Runs Amuck In Iraq

Remember this fiasco? "The Army has filed a criminal assault charge against an American officer who coerced an Iraqi into providing information that foiled a planned attack on U.S. soldiers.

Lt. Col. Allen B. West says he did not physically abuse the detainee, but used psychological pressure by twice firing his service weapon away from the Iraqi. After the shots were fired, the detainee, an Iraqi police officer, gave up the information on a planned attack around the northern Iraqi town of Saba al Boor.

But the Army is taking a dim view of the interrogation tactic. An Army official at the Pentagon confirmed to The Washington Times yesterday that Col. West has been charged with one count of aggravated assault. A military source said an Article 32 hearing has been scheduled in Iraq that could lead to the Army court-martialing Col. West and sending him to prison for a maximum term of eight years."

Think he got a bum deal? Then sign this petition for dismisal of all charges against this man!

A Letter From Iraq

This is a continuing thread from a frontline soldier now serving in Iraq who is trying to give you a rare insight into the realities he faces. He needs your help too....

"To make good on my claim that I'm coming with solutions and not simply pointing out the problems, I have written the following.

This is not a comprehensive list on how to win the war. But, there are a few things that you can influence on the homefront which would help us a great deal.

1. Ease Interrogation Regulations.

Under this category also falls train more soldiers on interrogation techniques. We are not suggesting that you give every soldier in the army a blank check when it comes to interrogation, that would be counter productive, but we should give greater leverage to tactical leaders when such decisions have to be made in order to act on time sensitive targets.

There is a shortage of training on interrogation in the military, which to some degree is based on the fear that training a soldier to do something will ultimately lead to them doing it, and thus raises the potential for bad press. The balance right now is in favor of not making mistakes, as opposed to aggressively doing your job. This is a direct result of media coverage and political fallout. If you want to see results, start demanding more objectivity out of your politicians.

2. Be willing to accept casualties.

Again, this one is difficult for many to understand, but political fallout over the amount of casualties taken can adversely effect operations.

When casualties become politicized their negative effect on operations is increased. It is ok for politicians or anybody for that matter, to be concerned about US casualties, but when there is no negligence involved, people should understand that it is a natural part of conducting military operations.

When people seek to use US casualties (especially relatively LOW casualties) in order to effect their political solutions, it can have a direct effect on our operations. When we start to receive restrictions on even the most basic operations in order to keep casualties low, it is a sign of political support waning. Its war people! We're all volunteers over here and there is truth in the theory that spilling some blood in the short run can save gallons from averting a long campaign. When people get concerned about “managing casualties we (troops) are in trouble, it's that simple.

Operations should be based on many things and casualties are a part of it, but commanders must be allowed to take chances (casualties). Their first concern should be to win the war; if this is not possible without taking casualties, then you take the casualties and you win.

Now there are many other things within the service that we could be doing differently, but many of the things that we would like to be doing will never become a reality until the two things I have mentioned above happen.

Believe it or not, the hearts and minds we really need to win at this point are yours! No matter how many Iraqi’s are willing to vote, or fight, (and there are many) they need your complete support right now. In order for us to make this a lasting accomplishment toward American security we need your support on a new level of committment. Give it to us and watch the results. Continue to give us lip service on “Support for the Troops but little or no support for the mission and you have done us no favors. The fact is, we are here and no one wants Saddam back and everyone would like to see Iraq become a functioning Democracy. So really, there should be no argument on this. Unless you have something to gain by our failure? Thank You."

End of letter

Immigration Protest Favors Illegals

9 a.m. No sooner had we published the protest in support of US Immigration laws we received another announcement on AP: According to a breaking news wire story,

Latino's are planning
a nationwide economic
boycott May 1st.

Protesting against current and proposed immigration laws and secure borders, Hispanics are asking supporters to avoid buying anything on 5/1/06; no gas, no groceries, no clothes, nothing."

UPDATE: April 10th has also been added to the dates for nationwide protests against what organizers are calling repressive immigration laws. The Hispanic organizations calling for protests on April 10th are also asking high school students join them in marches, and if they are threatened with truancy the ACLU will provide them with assistance, they said. Tired of Annoying Telemarketers and Junk Mail?

My suggestion is try the DO NOT CALL list on the internet. Congress approved this service awhile back that forces the pests to abide by the "Do not call" list or face penalties. Try it, it's easy.

The Post Office has a similar program, but not nearly as effective, that allows you to opt out of receiving a certain amount of junk mail. Next, is a co
