Miranda Herrera on Immigration
Miranda writes...."LET'S REMEMBER THIS COUNTRY WAS FOUNDED BY IMMIGRINTS!!!! Unless you are Native American then someone in your family came from somewhere else and how would they have felt....
had the Native Americans said "Sorry Boarders Closed". I guess only you "Americans" have the right to decide who can come and who can not. My grandparents came to this country in 1966 from Mexico and raised 13 children working in Agriculture low paying jobs that "white people" feel they are above. My uncle, my brother and 6 of my cousins and many of our friends have all been in the service and currently my brother and 4 cousins and 4 of our very close friends (all mexican-american's) are currently fighting in Irac, fighting for a country that is now saying close the boarders. Everyone who works pays taxes does not matter if you are legal or not and those who are not do not get tax credits and big returns like others but continue to work and pay taxes. The Anglo race always needs someone or some group to feel superior too so should we Latinos be suprised??? No. I think all of us Latinos should stop working for one week, stop consumming for one week and let the Anglo race see what an inpact this has on them. If we all minorities stand together we are the majority and together we can make the change. The Anglo race is scared because even as we are Americans by birth we hold are culture and traditions close and we support our Native country's our language, are heritige that is rich with culture and we are strong together. The Anglo's are not, there own race commits crimes against their great nation and they are not tied to their culture or to any thing that makes them feel proud therefore they feel a need to attack those of us who are strong. We will over come this as long as we stay united and strong and America will relize that without immigrants this would not be America. Que Dios nos Bendiga a todos, Y nosotros los Mexicanos y nuestros hermanos y hermanas Latinos ay que mantenernos fruetes y unidos. Juntos se puede todo!"
Note from Jack: I allowed this letter from Miranda to go up, even though it is highly racist, because there is something valuable to be learned from it. No, we are not teaching racism here, we are teaching patriotism and what it means to be a citizen of this nation.
Let's start with this thought first: So, Amanda, if 5 or 10 million or more, non-Mexicans, wanted to come across the border into Mexico and demand equal rights and entitlements paid by Mexican citizens, then it's ok because you say Mexican or Indian people don't believe in borders? Since when?
All those south and central American countries, including Mexico have very well defined borders, you can see them on any map. Why, if they mean nothing? They also have border guards, border check points, border inspections and lests not forget their limited immigration quotas! They all issue passports to their citizens to travel, with restrictions, to and from countries in this continent and beyond. They all have tough laws about illegals and visiting workers and so on and they lock up violators and deport people.
Now, tell me Amanda how does that square with what you want from America? Where is your basis for your demands?
