Be Glad You Live in America
"AP - BAGHDAD, Iraq An Iraqi tennis coach and two of his players were shot to death this week in Baghdad because they were wearing shorts, authorities said Saturday, reporting the latest in a series of recent attacks attributed to Islamic extremists.
In the Baghdad incident, gunmen stopped a car carrying the Sunni Arab coach and two Shiite players, asked them to step out and then shot them, said Manham Kubba secretary-general of the Iraqi Tennis Union.
Extremists had distributed leaflets warning people in the mostly Sunni neighborhoods of Saidiyah and Ghazaliyah warning people not to wear shorts, police said.
"Wearing shorts by youth are prohibited because it violates the principals of Islamic religion when showing forbidden parts of the body. Also women should wear the veil," the leaflets said.
No one claimed responsibility for the slayings, which come amid worries that Islamic extremism is spreading in the war-torn country.
Sunni cleric Eid al-Zoubayi denounced the attack.
"Islamic religion is an easy religion and it allows wearing sport shorts as long as they don’t show the forbidden parts of the body, so the acts that are targeting the sport are criminal," he said.
It was the second incident involving athletes in just over a week. Fifteen members of a taekwondo team were kidnapped in western Iraq while driving to a training camp in neighboring Jordan on May 17."

Moore, al Haditha and the Media Bias
by Jack Lee...
Seems like the controversy over Moore's Fahrenheit 911 will never end...A Massachusetts national guardsman filed an $85 million lawsuit against Moore last week. He's
accusing Moore of distorting a TV interview to portray him as anti-war in "his scathing 2004 documentary about the Bush administration post-Sept. 11, 2001."
Do you think the media is a friend or foe in wartime? I think mostly foe. Their job is to create headlines and this is often inconsistent with the military mission to win the war by winning the hearts and minds of the people. That's hard to do when the media keeps things stirred up, i.e. "Abu Graib". Which turned out to be a non-event, just pranks by a couple of stupid enlisted people, nothing more. Now al Haditha is their means to headlines. Seems the media can't wait five seconds before pronouncing guilt and inflaming passions. This latest incident is described as another "MeLi". The fact is, our media is making our mission for democracy in Iraq much more difficult. There was simply no strategic need to take this "November incident" to page one, better it was handled quietly and in any other war it would have been, but in Iraq the media is unrestrained. Shootings there are not normally big news, unless it's alleged that one of ours did it, then it's treated like the "man bites dog" story.
Remember when the media pronounced Marine Lt. Pantano guilty of killing two Iraqi's? As Pantano recounted after being acquitted, "...autopsy evidence blew their case out of the water, and the Marine Corps dropped all charges against me." Pantano was declared completely innocent of the charges, yet the media had him guilty from day one! Obviously the media makes a very poor judge and jury. Keep that in mind as you read about the al Haditha incident.
On another front, an Army Lt. Colonel called the Rush Limbaugh show from Iraq today. He said the military could win this war in short order if "they would let us out of our cage." He was pretty angry over the politicians trying to run (or ruin) this war, "it's like Vietnam all over again," he said.
Not the first time we've heard that one, is it? At one point, Limbaugh asked him if he thought his honest comments would get him in trouble? The LTC said, "What are they going to do to me, send me to Iraq?" Good point Colonel, but you can probably kiss off making "bird" now, that's the price of being honest with the public.
Quote of the week: "Does it tell you something about our times when a representative of the Taliban is welcome on the Yale University campus but representatives of our own military forces are not?" - Thomas Sowell

IF ANYTHING GOES CAN DEMOCRACY SURVIVE?
by Tina Grazier
The Defense of Marriage Act passed by Congress and signed by President
Bill Clinton defines marriage for purposes of federal law as the legal union
between one man and one woman as husband and wife. Similar laws have
since been passed in 38 states. The act, and these state laws, have been
challenged in local and state courts across the country leading to indicision
and confusion in the public. Next week the Senate is scheduled to vote on the
Federal Marriage Amendment., an amendment to alter the Constitution to
protect marriage. This may be a defining moment in American history. We've
heard from dissenters who take an "anything goes" approach to marriage but
there is an alternative point of view, one that sees marriage as fundamental to
the continuance and preservation of democracy. An 1878 Supreme Court
decision may be the foundation on which marriage as we know it survives. The
case, Reynolds versus United States, upheld the constitutionality of anti-
polygamy laws, defending the idea that democracy rests upon specific family
structures.
The mid-sixties saw the birth of the "sexual revolution", an enticing movement
that promised freedom from the stodgy old fashioned ideas of "the establishment".
As with most "good ideas" it's promoters failed to address the destructive social
consequences that would inevitably be visited upon society. Some forty years
down the road we have witnessed the rampant return of sexually transmitted
disease, excessive drug use, increased crime, millions of abortions, and
rediculously flexible divorce laws that have contributed greatly to the destruction
of the family. Another consequence is that a large portion of society now places
personal gratification and self-interest ahead of social responsibility, a destructive
and difficult result to change. The movement to change the definition of marriage
is the most recent effect of the sixties revolution. It's the latest wake-up call,
demonstrating the importance of preserving traditional marriage. When anything
goes, democracy may soon go with it...right out the window.

AMERICANS UNITE!
by Tina Grazier
Yesterday Americans spent the day honoring our veterans; what will we do to honor and support them today and in the days to come? The President spoke to the nation following September eleventh knowing the breadth and depth of the war we faced. He told us the war would happen on many fronts, some seen and others unseen. He said the war could last for twenty years. Was anyone paying attention? Is it possible for Americans to remain faithful over the long haul to this great national cause or will we continue to squabble and fight amongst ourselves for purely selfish reasons? May I suggest a website for inspiration: www.vetsforfreedom.org
An introductory letter from the founders of this organization describes "...a long war hampered by the shortsighted." This certainly communicates the pettifogging dialogue that passes for political speech and for much of what passes for news about the war. The public, once united against the terrorists threats, is now often confused and torn. In an article entitled "The Troops Have Moved On", an op-ed for the New York Times, Reserve Marine Major Owen West (one of the founders of Vets for Freedoms) speaks about America, "American conscience is one of it's greatest strengths, but self-flagillation especially in the early stages of a war against an enemy whose worldview is uncompromising is absolutely hazardess."
Every day a small band of volunteer warriors fights to keep us safe and free. They face death and injury against "an enemy who has been at war with us in one form or another for two decades," says Major Owen West. Isn't it time for Americans to place the war and it's priorities above all else.?To do otherwise would be to reduce our "support" to the level of frivilous and insincere flattery. We cannot control what the media reports but we can seek information on our own. We cannot control what our politicians do, but we can pressure them with emails, phone calls, or letters...and we can vote. We can also, for the next two+ years, lift up the Commander-in-chief on matters pertaining to the war. It is counterproductive to udermine our leader.
And so today, the day after Memorial Day, and for all the days ahead in this long war let us vow first and foremost, to set for ourselves a standard of conduct and speech that reflects and unites America. Let us join together to offer real and genuine support for our troops:BY SUPPORTING THE MISSION!

AMERICA'S HERO'S - "COMPLETE GENTLEMEN"
by Tina Grazier
We need look no further than our own hearts to realize that human beings are easily pulled toward a darker side. Those who nurture and encourage such tendencies are bound to harbor and then promote evil deeds. For this reason we must remember to honor and promote the warrior nature in men.
One of the most lasting ways to honor them and lend them respect every day is to pass the baton to future generations. And so to honor all of them, past, present and future, I'd like to recommend and quote from a wonderful book :
"THE COMPLEAT GENTLEMAN. The Modern Man's Guide to Chivalry"
by Brad Minor
"There are two kinds of men for whom violence is an integral part of character: criminals and complete gentlemen."
"Most men are dangerous, if only because evil is never very far from winning human allegiance."
"The logic of violence is crude but simple; violent reaction against transgression deters others who might follow suit."
"To say that a gentleman is courageous is to say that he is willing to risk his own life, safety, and comfort in the battle of good and evil."
"The accompaniment to courage is honor; without honor, courage may be nothing more than bravado or even cruelty."
"The question most American's often ask is this: Where do we find such men? Where do hero's come from? How do they always manage to come forward just when we need them? The answer is, of course, that heroism will not need to stir, but it will arise and conquor if they have dreamed the dream."
"And the courage and strength of the warrior are qualities that 'save' society even in times of relative peace."
Since the 1970's pacifism has been a quality held up as both good and noble, some even suggesting that it leads to peace. I respectfully and most heartily disagree. A small few of us can remain cloistered in a safe place leaving others to guard the door, expecting others to keep evil forces at bay. Instead we must call out and lend full support to our warriors, those among us who have it in them to fight and take a brave stand for freedom, justice and peace. To these, America's "complete gentlemen", I say thank you. May we teach future generations to do and be as these.

Memorial Day 2006
By Jack Lee...
The ads read, "Huge Blow Out Sale, Now through Memorial Day", "One Day Sale - Memorial Day Only", "Our Biggest Memorial Day Sale Ever!", "Save Up to 60% - Memorial Day ONLY!" What has become of Memorial Day?
This special day did not mean "specials" at the mall, but seems like thats what most people use it for, not for honoring those who gave their all for freedom while in military service for this country. That's why I say, I hope you will use Monday to attend a memorial, conducted by your local American Legion, VFW or other veteran's organization. Chico's population is over 100,000, but last year barely a 250 people turned out for our Veteran's sponsored event at the Chico Cemetary. I wish more of you would attend and show you care. It would mean a lot to our WWII Vets who make up most of those present, they are disappearing so fast and we owe them a lot. Don't miss this chance to let them (and all vets) know you care.
___________________________________________________________________
MONDAY UPDATE: Chico Cemetary. 10 a.m.-11 a.m. There was a great turn out today, well over double last year's attendance!
Parents, if you didn't take your kids to see this event you missed a wonderful chance to share the pride, dignity and patriotism that was so abundant here this day. Kids need to be part of things like this; it's so important to developing good character and a respect for their country.
If you are one of those parents on the left that thinks this is all about glorifing war, you are entitled to your opinion, but the facts say otherwise. This was about honoring the heroism, idealism and selfless sacrifice that made this country the most successful democracy in the history of the world. Your children should be part of this too, regardless of your politics.

Chico Home Prices - Must Read!
By Jack Lee, Post Scripts...
Could Chico home prices be about to fall? If you look at the inventory on MLS you might think so. It's up about 3X over last year with around 277 homes on the market. This week there were more homes offered on the MLS tour than at any time all year. The stock market is jittery and it's taken a beating recently over inflation woes that are leading us ever closer to higher interest rates. Now toss in the sky high gasoline price and it stands that sooner or later this absurdly high $220 per average s.f. price will have to come down. If homes are not selling right now, what choice do sellers have? It's happened many times before and its going to happen again, so the question is not IF, but when?
UPDATE 5/30/06: Condo prices are falling. Home prices have stalled. MLS inventory as of 5/30/06 has risen to over 400 homes and they just aren't selling like they should. Buyers are becoming a precious commodity at local real estate offices, listings that are not priced to sell are used to sell those that are.
As interest rates climb from this point on, there will be more pressure on sellers to lower prices to offset higher finance costs to buyers who are becoming increasingly more selective and more demanding. Mid-day on the DOW the market is off 120 points. Same worries that dropped it 214 points a few days ago is doing it again....inflation fears.

The Cell Phone Menance
by Jack Lee, Post Scripts...
The teenager was driving over the speed limit on a straight road when she lost control of her vehicle and struck several parked motorcycles, severely injuring a Harley rider. She admitted she was distracted while talking on the cell phone. In a recent fatal single car accident, the driver still had her cell phone clutched tightly in her hand.
I could cite a hundred of these "cell phone" encounters and no doubt you could too. That's why there was a meeting in Sacramento to hear testimony in support of a new cell phone law that would prohibit you from driving and talking on a handheld cell phone.
A recent study in the New England Journal of Medicine concluded cell phone use increased a drivers risk of a collision by a factor of four which is coincidentally about the same as driving under the influence. A study by "Hahn and Tetlock “calculate the costs of cellular phone use in vehicles to be $1.2 billion per year. About half of this $1.2 billion is attributable to the 78 estimated fatalities associated with driver use of cellular phones while the other half represents the costs associated with more minor accidents in which cell phones were a contributing factor.
Thanks once again to a small minority of abusers, the rest of us are going to pay for their foolishness.
My Dad used to complain about too many stop signs and said a yeild sign would be far more efficient, which is true. Except for that small minority of drivers that wouldn't slow down. You know the type, if the speed limit is 55 they drive 65+, if it's 65 they drive 75+, if it says stop, they slide through it, they are always pushing the limit. Almost every law we have in the vehicle code book is a result of a small minority of selfish drivers messing it up for everyone else. I wish we could just target those drivers and get them off the road, maybe it's time for a tougher driver license exams and quicker court routes to "suspended" driving privilages? I bet our insurance rates would drop if we did that!

ENLOE INSIDER INFORMATION
By Jack Lee, writer for Post Scripts...
According to the Chico ER, Dan Neumeister said that Enloe's census being down has nothing to do with the anethesiologists and more to do with "the community being pretty healthy right now".
Well, there's always another side to the story isn't there? One of Enloe's finest informed me that while the hospital census may be down the ER is incredibly busy! They're seeing about 120-140 patients a day right now...they call that coming real close to a critical mass melt down.
Last week Enloe's ER had a bed shortage crisis because the number of patients needing to be seen far exceeded their bed capacity and nurse capacity! The community is not as healthy as Dan Neumeister wants us to believe, says my source. The two main portals for admission into Enloe are the ER and Surgery. One is in near turmoil and the other is not far behind, being very busy. Now, what's that seem like to you?
Enloe needs a management transplant. It's obvious to me the managers are creating a lot of the friction that threatens overall hospital performance. Enloe has a long standing reputation for being a good hospital for health care, but at the same time it has a bad rep as being an unecessarily difficult work place for nurses and below because of the management. I was on the fence for a long time on this issue, but too much has been coming in that says we better support the rank and file employees!
Remember: Good care depends on good people...to care.

GUILTY!
By Jack Lee, writer for Post Scripts...
Maybe this will brighten your day...Ken Lay - Jeff Skilling ...GUILTY ON ALL COUNTS.
It took 4 years and it was akin to closing the barn door after the horses got out, but they are guilty and they are going to jail. If there is to be any justice from the Enron debacle that claimed the life savings of tens of thousands of Americans, it will come in the form of a long prison sentence for these pirates. The Enron collapse was so big it hurt the American economy and in turn the worlds economy. No sentence could be too long for such a grevious crime against so many victims. And let that sentence serve notice on the other corprorate pirates out there, who might be thinking of doing evil things to fleece the people who trust them with part of their 401k's.
For more information on this story I suggest you watch the movie now on video called the, "Smartest Guys in The Room". What an eye opener that one is, check it out.

Another Government Scandal
By Jack Lee, Post Scripts...
Just when you think the confidence in American government couldn't get much lower, this happens. Oh, I'm not talking about another Congressman's indictment for bribery or even the new corruption investigation targeting the Speaker of the House, Denny Hastert, we're actually getting used to such things. What we don't expect are the really, really, dumb things like this: Our government just spent 1.75 billion to buy computers made in China? Actually, this is beyond dumb, it's a slap in the face to U.S. manufacturers and more importantly to the U.S. taxpayers who want their money spent at home! If anybody ought to benefit from our tax dollars it's Americans and perhaps our 10 million illegal workers, but not workers in China! Does it make you feel any better that the label on the computer said, "IBM"? No, I didn't think so.
Remember a few years back, when Ohio was outsourcing the overhaul of their DMV computer system and they hired the low bidder from India? India was 18 million under the next bidder, so Ohio gave them the contract and the GOP had a hissy fit! This pressure eventually forced the Democrat Governor to rescind the contract, which was actually a pretty good deal for Ohio since only one other company bid and it was way higher. There was also no national security risk involved. Ohio then used several smaller American firms to do the job, even though it was a more piece meal effort, it cost more and the end product was just mediocre. But, the GOP was admament the tax money had to go to Americans. So, you have to wonder how could this GOP administration, from the President to the Senate to the Congress, could allow this fat computer contract to go to IBM when they knew the computers would be made in China?
Now comes perhaps the worst part. There is some evidence to suggest the Chinese computers were designed to spy on their users. According to the article in the Sidney Morning Herald, "The US State Department will disconnect 900 new Chinese-made computers from its most top secret network for fear that they may have been fitted with spying equipment." Let me repeat that, they had these Chinese computers hooked up to our most top secret network and they had not been inspected for bugging devices. Republican congressman Frank Wolfe, said the purchase was a mistake". No kiddin, Frank? Well, the good news is at least one person in Congress has a firm grasp on the obvious!
"This decision would have had dire
consequences for our national security."
consequences for our national security."
"It is no secret that the United States is a principal target of Chinese intelligence services," said Wolfe. But, apparently it is a "secret" to some in high government places who placed this order and allowed these computers to be hooked up to top secret installations, without doing any sort of security checks on them first.
The entire Chinese order comprised of 16,000 computers. They must now either be tediously checked for bugging devices (very expensive) or scrapped ... well, there's another fine example of your tax dollars at work. Congressman Frank Wolfe concluded his comments about this incident by saying, "This decision would have had dire consequences for our national security." Oh, brother (faint sigh) sometimes the more you know, the more you wish you didn't know, but this is the price of our vigilance necessary to keep this nation on track.

Gore's "Passion"
by Tina Grazier, Post Scripts
In the early 1980's Al Gore went in search of a vehicle, an idea or cause that would capture the attention of the American people and launch him on a steady path toward the White House. He settled on the environment, a perfect choice. It would help deflect attention away from the ties his family had to Armand Hammer of Occidental Petroleum...hmmm...(Isn't that like having ties to Haliburton?) But I digress, as they say.
Let's fast forward and pretend... "Gee Tipper, I gotta find a way to tell the American people about global warming. It's scarier than the terrorists!"
"Oh Al, you're so right...I know, since love is never having to say,'I'm sorry', let's do a show!" And so was born...

Non-Iraqi Arabs "Out of Touch"
By Tina Grazier Post Scripts Co-Writer,
Media reporting often paints a distorted or misleading picture of world events and the story in Iraq is no exception. An article entitled "The Word On the Street" by Richard Nadler writing for
National Review reveals this glaring truth.
Surveys were conducted between 2002 and 2005 in six Arab countries: Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Lebanon, Jordon, Monoco, and The
United Arab Emirates by Zogby International. The Arabs in these six nations were found to believe that Iraqi's were "worse off after the war" by a margin of 77% to 6%.
When Iraqi's were asked, "Thinking about any hardships you might have suffered since the US-Britian invasion, do you personally think that ousting Saddam Hussein was worth it or not?", 77% answered
"worth it". The main reasons for their optimism are improved conditions of security, safety from crime, freedom of speech, availability of education, medical care and basic household necessities.
Al-Jazeera and the Arabic TV-News station broadcasting from Dubai dominate the air-waves in the region. Reporting suggests that US-British efforts are colonialist in nature. There is competition emerging from Iraq, however. The three state owned radio and three state owned television stations have given way to 44 commercial TV stations, 72 commercial radio stations, and 100 independant newspapers. The free press is alive and working for the Iraqi people earning al-Jazeera a newfound level of contempt. Ayad Allawi, a secular Shiite, accused al-Jazeera of inciting hatred. Falah al-Naqib, a Sunni interior minister in the interim government said al-Jazeera had, "agreed to become the voice of terrorist groups".
A new democracy has emerged in Iraq and the Iraqi people have an opportunity to create a beacon of hope for others. I remain hopeful that the media in Iraq will begin to play a major role in changing
the hearts and minds of Arabs in the entire region. Freedom is contagious.

Down Mexico Way
By Tina Grazier, Post Scripts co-writer:
A pending event across our southern border might explain, at least in part , the cautious position our president has taken with respect to immigration and our border. On July 2nd Mexicans will go to the polls to vote for their next president. Until recently an anti-American Marxist style socialist,Lopez Orbrador, has been the frontrunner.
President Bush is accutely aware of the importance of this election and, I would bet, hopes to encourage the election of Felipe Calderon, a free market candidate with the creation of jobs being a top priority.
To quote Calderon, "How many of you (the crowd he spoke to) have family in the US?...we need to bring them back here...a good economy rests on two legs: workers and jobs. We have the workers. now let's bring investment and jobs here." He went on to say, "I will remain firm in demanding fair rights for Mexicans in the US." This last statement, as distasteful as it is to some of us, may be overlooked if it means moving the country in a more hopeful direction.
Americans would be wise to consider this pending event and the direction Mexico can take if jobs and an improving economy can be further encouraged in Mexico through the election of new leadership.

Amnesty and Border Issues
By Tina Grazier Post Scripts Co-Writer,
The recent hubbub over the amnesty portion of border control has left my head in a spin. Is amnesty what our president has suggested or is it something else. I've read articles by folks better educated and with more experience than I who say it is, and still others who say that it isn't. I turn to my dictionary (Merriam Webster) for assistance:
amnesty n. 2 the act of an authority (as a government) by which general pardon of an offense is granted often before trial or conviction especially to a large group of individuals.
pardon n. 1a the excusing of an offense without exacting a penalty
synonyms: *amnesty, absolution, pardon
*amnesty indicates a general remission of punishment, penalty, retribution or disfavor to a whole group or class.
The dictionary comes down decidedly on the side of GWB who has
indicated that penalties and procedures (hoops to jump through) would be part of his plan for illegal entrants to regain the opportunity to work in America or become an American citizen.
I look to my own experience. The law is broken by average citizens every day in America. Speed laws are broken, for instance, and when we are caught we pay a fine or spend time in the slammer depending on the severity of the offense or our response to the officer. Rarely do we lose the right to drive forever unless the offense has been great. We generally tolerate speeders as long as they don't push the envelope too far or cause an accident. The offense of illegal entry may be less palatable or acceptable to Americans than is speeding, but I think we should remember that we have tolerated illegal entry into our country for many years. I think it's quite reasonable to take responsability for our own tolerance and still make illegals pay fines, pay back taxes, learn English, go to the back of the line when seeking citizenship or whatever other penalties and hoops might be appropriate. We face a continuing and perhaps growing problem with immigration. We need procedures and rules, a structured manageable operation that will allow officials to cope.
I think the Presidents plan will be a better working model than the open border policy we have had in recent years, I think it can be improved upon as needed, I don't think it amounts to amnesty, and frankly, I don't get what all the panic is about.

Welcome aboard Tina!

Learning From Your Mistakes Is Hard When You're A Pilot
I see we had a private plane crash at Chico airport yesterday and from the looks of it, I would say the couple in it was lucky to be alive.
As the ER story notes, a couple in their 60's had just taken off heading into a light wind when the plane lost power. The report
didn't say what their altitude was, but apparently it was just high enough for this pilot to survive a risky decision. When a plane loses power there is usually this panic reaction by the pilot to turn the plane around and go back to the airport. As most good pilots will tell you, this may not always be the best tactic.
As the story says, "the pilot tipped the wings about 45 degrees to the left to turn back toward the airport, then it came down quickly and landed hard." Yep....making that sharp turn usually causes a plane to come down quickly alright, that's the big mistake I'm talking about here and we call that a stall. When a stall happens the planes suffers an immediate and significant drop in airspeed to the point it has all the flying characteristics of a bag of wet cement. As the saying goes, "When you're out of power, out of altitude and out of ideas, you're out of luck."
The pilot in this situation said he didn't have time to lower his landing gear, but I seriously doubt that. I bet he just forgot and I can understand why, this was a scary situation. However, this may have actually been the deciding factor between life and death, because that kept them in the air a tad longer than if he had lower his gear. Dropping the landing gear causes significant drag and that exaggerates an already bad "stall" situation, i.e., the plane noses over and heads straight in or it falls off to the left or right wing tip. No doubt, just before that moment of "stall" the pilot was focused on trying to stay in the air and make it to the runway as the stall warning horn was blaring in his ears and raising his adrenalin. It must have been a pretty freaky situation, one that most pilots hope never happens in their flying careers.
If this story is to serve a purpose beyond entertaining speculation, it's a good reminder for new and prospective pilots; if you are not prepared to be great pilot, properly trained in your aircraft with the ability to think quickly under stress, please don't be a pilot! Be something else where you can pull over if you have engine problems. We have enough mediocre pilots trying to fly sophisticated aircraft that their pocket books say they can, but their skill says they can't.
As a former pilot, this is just my humble opinion, take it for what it's worth.

Gangs in the Military
It never really occured to me until Bill B., sent this link. What a surprise. Graffiti (gang signs) mark up military vehicles in Iraq.
"Chicago gang symbols can be found amid other graffiti, mostly in latrines on U.S. military bases such as Camp Fallujah in Iraq's Anbar Province."

Dow Takes Another Beating - Inflation Looms
If you have been watching the stock market, you have seen rather substantial losses happening in the past few days, almost 400 points total in 5 days. Today was Wall Streets birthday and the dow was down
214 points, that represents a one point loss per day for every day the stock exchange has existed, not a very good B-day was it?
What is driving the sell off is inflation fears. Investors worry that the fed is going to have a difficult time controlling inflation by little tweeks of the short term money rate.
The smart money is seeking a safe haven and that means it leaves the tech stocks and goes to the old blue chips, as evidenced by the tech heavy Nasdaq now off by 6.2% since the beginning of April.
What will this do for home sales? It can't be good. When interest rates jumped up over 10% back in the 80's, it was like pulling the emergency cord on a passenger train. When a leading market indicator like homes sales gets hit, watch out, it causes a big ripple that effects just about everything in the economy.
The Wall Street Journal had this to say, "U.S. consumers faced a surge in the prices of services in April, lending credence to some economists' predictions that inflation will accelerate in months to come.
The Labor department reported that the average price of consumer goods and services rose a seasonally adjusted 0.6% in April, up from 0.4% in March. A 3.9% jump in energy prices drove much of the move, but economists paid more attention to a rise in services, which helped push up prices excluding food and energy -- a measure called core inflation -- by 0.3%, exceeding expectations."

Run Your Car on Water?
If I told you your car could run on tap water, you would probably call me crazy, however that is exactly what I am about to tell you (sorta). Got your attention? Now for the whole amazing story:
"The flame instantly turns hotter than the surface of the sun. Heat so intense, it takes only seconds to literally burn a hole through charcoal. Three seconds turns a brass ball to glowing liquid metal.
Tungsten lights up like a sparkler. Steel, lead and other metals slice on contact. Yet the tip of the welder remains cool to the touch. "no other gas will do this." Denny Klein uses an alternative fuel source once thought impossible. He says people still can't believe him when he reveals his liquid fuel. Water. Water and electricity; it's an electrolysis process."
Klein just patented his process of converting h20 to hho, producing a gas that combines the atomic power of hydrogen with the chemical stability of water. It turns right back to water. In fact, you can see the h20 running off the sheet metal. Klein originally designed his water-burning engine for cutting metal. He thought his invention could replace acetylene in welding factories. Then one day as he drove to his laboratory in Clearwater, he thought of another way to burn his hho gas. On a 100 mile trip, we use about four ounces of water. Klein says his prototype 1994 Ford Escort can travel exclusively on water, though he currently has it rigged to run as a water and gasoline hybrid."
The process produces what is commonly known as "Brown's gas" by using electrolysis to crack the molecules and release the hydrogen gas. A quart sized jar can be fitted under the hood of your car, when you throw the switch, the electrical current provided by your alternator activates special metal plates in the jar holding pure H2o (tap water) and that in turn causes hydrogen gas (Browns gas) to be released. This gas is sucked into the vehicle's air intake and is consumed right along with your gasoline or diesel in the engine just as fast as it is produced thus no pressurized storage container is ever needed. This WILL NOT power your car by itself, it is supposed to be a helper.
At low speeds you simply turn off the hydrogen generator. Oh, and I should mention in case you want to try this at home, there is usually a back flash valve in case of an engine backfire that could turn your HHO device into a grenade.
Various home experiments using the family car have yielded a wide variety of testimonials that claim anywhere from 10% improved fuel economy to up to 25% and more. Unfortunately, I have yet to find a lab that has done an independant study, so most of the results come by way of testimonials and you know how I feel about them.
The hydrogen generation device is incredibly simple, no moving parts, save for the pressure release valve or backfire valve. There's nothing to prevent anyone with modest mechanical skills from building their own hydrogen generator (plans readily available on the net) or you could just buy one from one of the websites offering them. The price range varies as much as their claims, beware of the snake oil salesmen, they abound when it comes to this product.
I've found the units priced from $50 to $750, but in this case price doesn't matter much. Seems they vary little in their ability to produce hydrogen gas from a quart of water. They even have a few HHO units on eBay right now.
Should you rush out and buy one of these devices? According to one of my sources (Chris), "Mythbusters (from TV) tried one out. They came to the conclusion that the quantity of power required to create electrolysis of the quantity necessary to make a difference would draw more from the engine than it could produce on the fuel."
Another blogger had this to say, "Electrolysis, like it's name, is the process by which electricity is introduced into a molecule, which interferes with the bonding characteristics of the atomic particles, causing a fission (of non-nuclear origin) of the molecule.
This process requires a lot of energy, moreso in fact than could be obtained from the combustion of the components (that damn <100% of the universe problem). You would need to put in more energy to split the water into hydrogen, than you could get out of it by combusting the hydrogen (which, coincidentally, is the SAME PROCESS IN REVERSE)."
I should note the power to electrify the hydrogen generator comes from the alternator and remember, in this case, the car was not supposed to be run on these units, they were supplemental fuel sources and the hydrogen was alleged to be a catalyst to obtain more power from less fuel. Inventors claim the hydrogen acts like a fuel catalyst to produce more energy from either gasoline or diesel, less wasted fuel going out the exhaust manifold. It also reduces emissions and causes the engine to run smoother and cleaner, they say.

The Best and Brightess Liberal Thinker...
So I'm trying to get ideas for this column, flipping around the dial and I come across a strong signal, it's KZFR. Hmmm..., ok, let's see what's up in Lefty Land. It's a program called, "Radio Nation" and KZFR bills it as, "a project of the Nation Institute...for provocative and informative discussions with America’s brightest writers, thinkers and activists."
They left out "liberal" writers, thinkers and activists. Today's speaker was a real fire bomb tosser that has been virtually blacklisted from the progressive movement (by his own admission) because of his strong views. My opinion was yet to be formed, but when it was, I thought he made Ward Churchill look kinda credible.
Today's so-called "brightest" Bush hating, American hating, capitalist hating, wild-eyed lefty speaker was Mark C. Miller, a professor at NYU? Oh, I bet at least half of you knew this had to be a tenured professor somewhere.lol Miller does this well choreographed road show act that is built on one theme Bush/Cheney: The worst duo in the history of mankind. Worst President ever, worse than Attila the Hun, Stalin, Hitler, you name it, George W. Bush is the worst! (See, already his credibility is showing)
In the first 15 minutes of his broadcast, I counted easily over 20 opinions touted as fact (we could call them lies too). They were coming in so fast, I finally lost count as I tried to make notes...here's a few of his thoughts and I am paraphrasing because I didn't have a recorder. But, don't be surprised if they seem really familiar:
"Miller: The Bush/Cheney administration is the worst ever, nobody in history was ever worse. His financial policies have brought the nation to ruin and Harvard business professors warned us before the election! Bush doesn't care about public opinion and never did, never, he says this people, every day. This administration says, "We don't care what you have to say!" Gore won the popular vote because Bush threw the election, everybody knows that. Republicans are forcing us to buy these touch screen voting machines from the Republican buddies who make them, just so they can get rid of the paper trail to fix the elections, it's massive conspiracy." (I'm getting writers cramp as I scribble down lie after lie)
Cont- Miller: "Hitler was a better man than Bush, because he was at least his own man, unlike Bush/Cheney, they are controlled by corporate bosses. Here is what they are trying to d, they are trying to undermine the electorate's will to vote, it's the stated objective of the Bush/Cheney administration and they tell you, we don't care what you think. The media no longer reports any negative news about Bush, they cover it up in a vast conspiracy. This is why Bush doesn't even bother committing crimes secretly like Nixon or Reagan, he does it out in the public, because he doesn't care what you think!" (My pen is starting to overheat...)
Cont- Miller: "The GOP still thinks homosexuality is a choice and the world is 6000 years old! They are convinced that Armageddon is soon coming and that's why they have no problem using nuclear weapons against Iran; they see the world is coming to an end anyway and so they don't care. Did you know, the religious right is on their knees praying to stop global warming, because even they see it happening? (But, Bush doesn't care what they think! He doesn't care what any of us think and he says so! He's trying to break our will! (Whew....and I just ran out of room on the back of the envelope I was using as a note pad)
This is just a pittance of the most outrageous, egregious, fallacious slander I've ever heard passed off as political dialog and it was right here on that ever responsible, public sponsored for the community good, KZFR radio!
Marxist C. Miller has a book out called "Cruel and Unusual", the reviewer had this to say about Marxist C. Miller's rhetoric, "Miller argues that the Bush-era press isn't simply biased, it has been lulled into an Orwellian false consciousness. ...Miller, sometimes overheatedly, links the 'extremist propaganda' of the Christian right to Bush assertions and policies, traces it to groups like the highly secretive Council for National Policy, and presents what he sees as a final agenda: 'To such apocalyptic types, the prospect of a ruined earth is no big deal, as long as God can be alleged to go for it."
When not indoctrinating young minds at NYU, Miller is on the road delivering his message to colleges around the U.S. and it is appropriately titled, "This Is What We Are Up Against"...well, I agree with that, this is exactly what we are up against and there are too many Marxist Millers teaching in our universities. Miller needs to join Churchill at the unemployment line. As for "Radio Nation", I'll tune in again next week just to see if the rhetoric has changed, wanna bet it will be a different name, but the same old hate speech?

Bush Poll Numbers Jump
Bush hits a home run with his proposal to send the National Guard to the border until
enough border patrol agents can be trained. Sample polling showed up to 75% of American's approve of this tactic. Bush's overall poll numbers leaped about 12%, although this speech was not rated as one of his best.
Hewitt report, "President Bush did exactly what he had to do tonight: Hit the middle, agreeing to the fence, to a large increase in Border Patrol personnel and funding, tamper-proof identification, National Guard back-up of ICE for at least a year, the end of catch-and-release, blunt talk on the impossibility of mass deportation, an insistence on English, and a commitment to a guest worker program that will take pressure off enforcement by funneling large numbers of immigrant workers into the legal line."
"WASHINGTON - President Bush said Monday night he will send as many as 6,000 National Guard troops to the U.S. border with Mexico to help stop the flood of illegal immigrants, part of an administration drive to win conservative support in Congress for an election-year overhaul of the nation’s tattered immigration laws.
“We do not yet have full control of the border and I am determined to change that, the president said in pressing for his $1.9 billion plan in a 17-minute prime-time address from the Oval Office.
Bush gave strong support to a plan that would give many of the 12 million illegal immigrants in the United States an eventual chance of citizenship — a move derided by some conservatives as amnesty. He rejected that term."
The democratic response was short, but predictably negative.

Words of Wisdom
I offer this excerpt from Tina's comments posted to, "Dems Losing Ground" because it is such a profound observation expressed so perfectly and I didn't want you to miss it:
"It's hard to accept that there are those in our midst who would, with smug detachment, endanger America, and all for self promotion or power. They approach politics and world events as if they were happening in a play. Create a theme and then change the dialogue depending on which party is in power. But, reality is not the strong suit of the left. "Neverland" continually beckons."

New MI-6 Report A Shocker
New Intel report from MI-6 in the UK says Osama bin Laden may be currently exploiting America's southern border and developing operational capabilities with leftists in South America. Read this from WorldNetDaily.
"Air Force Maj. Juan Diaz Castillo, who was (Hugo) Chavez's pilot, told WorldNetDaily through an interpreter that "the American people should awaken and be aware of the enemy they have just three hours' flight from the United States."
Diaz said he was part of an operation in which Chavez gave $1 million to al-Qaida for relocation costs, shortly after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the United States."

More On Wiretaps
This just in from Toby...Dialing and the Democrats
"New York Sun Editorial - May 12, 2006...No sooner had the man who ran the National Security Agency for years been nominated to head the...."
CIA than USA Today rushed out details of our efforts to use technical means to find terrorists using the phones. And no sooner had USA Today disclosed details of an apparent attempt by the National Security Agency to defend Americans from terrorists than the Democratic Party and its leading politicians and interest groups went on the attack. Not against the terrorists but against President Bush. "This is another example of the Bush Administration misleading the American people," said a spokeswoman for the Democratic National Committee, Stacie Paxton.
Senator Kennedy of Massachusetts called the program "abusive" and said "Today's shocking disclosures make it more important than ever for the Republican Congress to end its complicity in the White House cover up of its massive domestic surveillance program. When three major telephone companies are supplying the administration with records of all Americans regardless of any hint of wrongdoing, Congress can't look the other way." Rep. Harold Ford Jr., a Democrat of Tennessee, went on Fox News Channel to call the news "disturbing." Senator Clinton pronounced herself "deeply disturbed."
Mrs. Clinton might want to have a talk with her husband. It was President Clinton who signed into law the Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act of 1994, after it was passed in both the House and Senate by a voice vote. That law is an act "to make clear a telecommunications carrier's duty to cooperate in the interception of communications for law enforcement purposes, and for other purposes." The act made clear that a court order isn't the only lawful way of obtaining call information, saying, "A telecommunications carrier shall ensure that any interception of communications or access to call-identifying information effected within its switching premises can be activated only in accordance with a court order or other lawful authorization."
The law that President Clinton signed into law and that was approved by voice votes in 1994 by a Democrat-majority House and a Democrat-majority Senate not only made clear the phone companies' "duty" to cooperate, it authorized $500 million in taxpayer funds to reimburse the phone companies for equipment "enabling the government, pursuant to a court order or other lawful authorization, to access call-identifying information that is reasonably available to the carrier." Again, the law, by referring to "other lawful authorization," states clearly that a court order isn't the only form of lawful authorization possible.
President Bush struck exactly the right notes yesterday. "So far we've been very successful in preventing another attack on our soil," Mr. Bush said. "As a general matter, every time sensitive intelligence is leaked, it hurts our ability to defeat this enemy. Our most important job is to protect the American people from another attack, and we will do so within the laws of our country." If he seemed calm about the latest disclosures, we can't help wondering whether it's because he recognizes that when Americans go to sleep at night, they're less worried about the "danger" that the government is looking for terrorists than they are about the danger that terrorists are looking for them.
This is the issue that the Democrats of the Howard-Dean-John-Kerry era just don't seem to prepared to credit. The Democrats who controlled the White House and both houses of Congress in 1994 showed signs of understanding the national security issues at stake here when they passed the law. Their understanding seems to have eroded since then. It can't be that they feel America faces less of a threat - if anything, the attacks of September 11, 2001, make the case for such programs even stronger. What's changed isn't the enemy threat but the party that now controls the White House. Which explains why Mrs. Clinton is "deeply disturbed" about activities legal under a law her husband signed."

Winning the Conservative Way - Club em!
They say in politics, if you can stay in long enough you can eventually make everybody mad at you, but hopefully not everybody all at once! The key to longevity in politics is keeping at least 60% of your voters happy, while the other 40% are
ticked off! And you have to keep this group of "happy voters" rotating throughout your support base so nobody stays mad at you too long, which is no easy task.
Unfortunately, some people won't rotate, they only have one issue. When you tread on that one issue you're history. You've lost them and they could care less about anything else you have to say. That's an unpleasant reality all politicians have to face.
As an example, a lot of good people in the GOP fear the radical Christian-right over the abortion issue for that very reason. That tremendous voting block of good Christian conservatives would rather throw themselves on the sword than to vote for a pro-choice conservative, even if that candidate would support all the other conservative issues.
Politicians can't fix those "single issue" voters, because once they have lost them they are beyond reach for them. But, if these people are friends, then you can reach them! Now it's your turn to say something and bring them back on board.
As a friend and political ally, reach down deep into your gray matter and draw out your best "club" called common sense, reason, logic or something like that, then pound them unmercifully until they understand! lol It's that simple...and hopefully, if all works as it should, you're still friends afterwards...a win-win!
This is how "we the people" influence elections and make our vote really count, even when others were about to throw theirs away and our collective cause along with it. But, we won't ever let that happen, will we? Noooooo, not if we are real conservatives.
You can tell the real conservatives because we are often the mouthy ones! lol We are strongly opinionated, we are often critical of politics, even our own and we speak out regularly as we feel it is our duty. We are honest and involved. We are concerned and that causes us to speak up when others are ready to give up! We are the "grass roots" and we are devoted to our idealism and we are far stronger than we might realize.
This nation depends on the grass roots conservatives and may we always be there for our peers who sometimes need a good clubbing (of common sense that is)! To have this option is the true beauty of living in a democracy that is protected by freedom of speech and that protects freedom of speech. Where would we be if we quit using it... wisely?
PS (It's why we're all here...this is your blog, so feel free to speak up!)

Crews Busy Fixing Pot Holes & Painting

I don't know about your car, but my poor car sounds like a bucket of loose bolts after being on Chico streets for a few years and lets not talk about what these roads have done to my tires and shocks, ouch!
I've never seen our streets any worse and yet the revenues are way up, so I wonder where our tax dollars are being spent? Certainly not on fixing our city streets. The city's premier drive...Vallombrosa is really getting rough, so is busy East Avenue, Manzanita, Juniper and dozens of major streets throughout Chico.
Hey, Mayor Gruendel,...have you seen my kid's little Honda Civic? We lost it in a pothole on East Avenue.
And by the way, the picture was a joke, our city crews are smarter than that and they do the best they can with what they have, but apparently it's not enough given the sad state our streets are in!

Tax Cuts for All Taxpayers
Here is the simple truth about the new tax cut, don't listen to the liberal extremist BS, they are lying. This story is taken right from the Washington Post which is not a "rightwing" paper...
"The package will reduce taxes on capital gains and dividends; lower rates for taxpayers at all income levels; benefit married couples and many parents; encourage business investment. It also will provide money for cash-strapped state governments."
Three Republicans -- John McCain (Ariz.), Olympia J. Snowe (Maine) and Lincoln D. Chafee (R.I.) -- opposed it."
"Currently the top 5 percent, who made 34 percent of the money, paid 55 percent of the taxes. So much for rich people escaping taxes with sneaky loopholes, sleazy accountants and offshore shelters!"

Poll - Democrat Charges Losing Ground
In the latest poll, there is a modest gain in approval numbers against the so-called wiretap controversy created largely by the Democrats and the media.
Here's just one example of irresponsible journalism that has been rampant in the media, note how this dolt sets himself
up as judge and jury when he says: "With all the controversy surrounding President Bush's illegal NSA (National Security Agency) wiretap surveillance program, some of the benefits and the remarkable technological successes brought into being by the admittedly unconstitutional operation...." By Ion Zwitter, Avant News Editor, Fort Meade, Maryland.
Note to Mr. Zwitter: it's never been proven illegal nor unconstitution, you are spouting opinion as fact and that makes you part of the problem, not the solution!
It's important to note that since the Democrats first raised the allegation of an illegal wiretap there has never been a single complaint from a victim!
Time and again, the President and the GOP has responded to partisan Democratic charges by saying the wiretaps were not illegal, they were authorized by law, they go through a legal process to reduce the chance of error, it involves 4 legal hurdles that must be met with a final approval by a Federal Judge and it is limited to overseas communications by people living in the United States who were suspected of terrorist activities.
Many who generically oppose anything the Republicans or Bush attempt to do in the war on terrorism spout irresponsibly that the wiretaps are illegally done on American citizens. Polls show the public is coming around and they aren't buying it. The following is a sampling taken from the 45 question poll.
Question: What do you think is more important right now - (for the federal government to investigate possible terrorist threats, even if that intrudes on personal privacy); or (for the federal government not to intrude on personal privacy, even if that limits its ability to investigate possible terrorist threats)?
Investigate Respect No (Up by 7% from March)
threats privacy opin.
65% 31% 4%
Question: As it conducts the war on terrorism, do you think the United States government is or is not doing enough to protect the rights of American citizens?
Doing enough No,is not (up by 6% from March)
53% 45%
*Post-ABC News poll was conducted by telephone May 11, 2006 among 502 randomly selected adults nationwide. Margin of sampling error for overall results is plus or minus four percentage points.

1 in 3 Adults Has Told This Lie to a Lover
"Unfaithful cheaters have a new place to hang out besides the No-Tell Motel. It's the local shopping mall. According to a new Harris Poll commissioned by lawyers.com and Redbook magazine, nearly one in three U.S. adults ages 25 to 55 who is in a committed relationship has lied to his or her partner about spending habits. Despite this lack of financial candor among some couples, 24 percent of all those currently in a relationship say honesty about finances is more important than honesty about fidelity, and 72 percent say trust is essential to a successful romance." What's Going On Here?
Some polls suggest as many as 8 out of 10 Americans want a secure border with Mexico. Before we pass anymore immigration laws, I wonder why we can't secure it?
Without a secure border, those immigration laws are more like immigration suggestions, no plan is going to work without a secure border. It never has and it never will, so why has this humble logic escaped the President and his people?
Did the President miss the part in the U.S. Constitution that mandates the federal government to protect our borders?
You really have wonder, what's going on here? This IS still a democracy, right? It is still supposed to be a representative government doing the will of the people, right? Or have "we the people" become just an annoyance to those in power?
The President has been completely ineffective when it comes to securing our Southern border and Congress no better. I just don't understand why? They're popularity would shoot up, if they just secured the border as well as Mexico secures it's Southern border. If they don't, we have nowhere else to turn; unless you think this glorified neighborhood watch group, called the Minutemen, can plug the leaks?
Speaking of the Minuteman project, the President of the Border Patrol Agent's Union, P. Bonner, says this long standing wide open border where millions of violators cross every year is not just from neglect. He raises the issue of a true government conspiracy working in conjunction with big business that exploits this source of cheap labor and we're not talking about just farms. That is almost impossible for me to handle, yet there it is and this seems as likely a motive as anything else I've heard.
It gets uglier: The Minuteman project says they are being sabotaged by our own government. The head of the Border Patrol one day says, yes we give that Intel to Washington who in turn gives it to Mexico, so they know we are monitoring this group and that no Mexican citizens are being injured by them. Then they reverse course and say no, nobody is spying on anybody. Well, I can tell you one thing is for sure...somebody IS definitely lying, take your pick of which story.
We also have state officials saying if the "Minutemen" do anything illegal they will descend on them with drastic consequences...and I wonder, why not descend on the drug smugglers and the coyotes with their human cargo? This is so completely wrong, it's nuts, there must be much more to this story because I can't believe this is happening.
WHAT IS GOING HERE? Has our government been compromised by unseen, behind the stage forces that means more to federal government than the wishes of the overwhelming majority of the voters?
LOOK AT THIS GARABAGE, from news stories...
this is unbelievable:
Documents Show U.S Officials Across The Board, Buckling To Mexican Government On Immigration Laws & Border Enforcement
May 10, 2006 - "Public documents available on Mexico's Secretary of Exterior Relations' [SER] website - only yesterday revealed in a series of articles dealing with the charge that American authorities are conspiring with the Mexican government to spy on American border activists - detail a level of intimidation on the part of the Mexican government and a level of acquiescence by the U.S. government heretofore unimaginable."
"On February 10, 2005 the Mexican government sent a diplomatic note of protest to the U.S. Department of State excoriating the Minuteman Project as a group of vigilantes"
In another report, "[Mexico] condemns energetically the manifestations and acts of racism, the racial discrimination, the xenophobia, the intolerance towards the migrants and the stereotypes that continuously are applied to them and makes a call to the United States to consider the revision of its migratory policies in order to eliminate these practices" (Mexico is dictating our border policy and it's working!)
This is nothing more than a call for open borders.
"In early Spring of 2005 the Mexican SER directed all U.S. based Mexican consulates to conduct surveillance on border activists including those involved in the Minuteman Project, to interact with all levels of the leadership of American institutions involved with border enforcement including law enforcement, and transmit that information back to the Fox government.
"...these documents make it clear that Mexican consulates have been active in a massive surveillance and information gathering program throughout the United States - in Arizona, California, Texas, Utah, New Mexico, Nevada, Illinois, Massachusetts and Tennessee, detailing the activities and identifying American citizens and border activist groups by name and reporting back to Mexican authorities."
"...28 of June civil employees of the Consulate of Mexico in Albuquerque met with Bill Hume, Head of Political Advisers of Bill Governor Richardson. In this meeting it was agreed that the government of the state will insist that the solution to immigration, as well as the application of immigration laws, is a subject of federal and not state character. It also explained that in case that a Minuteman breaks the state laws, the state will take drastic action.
"Governor Bill Richardson declared that "he disavows the Minuteman group in New Mexico because authorities in charge of the application of the law in the South border of the state already exist." Spokesman of the Sector Paso of the Border Patrol of the United States opposes the activities of the Minuteman Project."
"[Mexico] condemns energetically the manifestations and acts of racism, the racial discrimination, the xenophobia, the intolerance towards the migrants and the stereotypes that continuously are applied to them and makes a call to the United States to consider the revision of its migratory policies in order to eliminate these practices"
There has never been a more clear and compelling case for the people of this country to force their representatives to listen and make some much needed changes; if they won't...then it's over, our influence is virtually nill.

Minutemen Betrayed
The Minute Man project was cofounded by newspaper man Jim Gilchrist (shown in photo). Gilchrist and his team have been travelling to a number of cities in the southeast to raise awarness over the border problems when they discovered the U.S. government was feeding intel info on Minutemen patrol locations.
"Chris Simcox, Minuteman Civil Defense Corps said, "It's unbelievable that our own government agency is sending intelligence to another country. They are sending intelligence to a nation where corruption runs rampant, and that could be getting into the hands of criminal cartels. They just basically endangered the lives of American people."
Gilchrist and others, have campaigned long and hard to bring order a sense of order and security to an otherwise chaotic scene along our Southern border. His growing army of volunteers are every day citizens and they simply watch certain remote desert areas along the US/Mexico border for illegal intrusion. If they find it, they report it to the U.S. Border Patrol, thats all. They don't make don't make arrests or even detain people and they are sure not a racist organization as some have alleged.
For this law abiding activity the Minutemen have been hounded unmercifully by the ACLU looking for an excuse to sue them into oblivion. The ACLU tried to get them on an abuse charge as if they had roughed up a captured illegal alien, but when the truth came out the Minutemen were totally vindicated. A video tape showed the alleged incident of abuse. They were merely giving water and a free souvineer tee shirt to an illegal alien who surrendered without incident to the U.S. Border Patrol. It made the ACLU look foolish and they have since backed off to a safer distance, but they are still in that predatory mode, according to the Minutemen.
President Bush has unkindly and erroneously referred to them as "vigilantes." Now, we've discovered that the American government currently tips off the Mexican government to their area of operations. The Mexican government then passes this information along to "persons of interest" who find it very helpful. Mexican drug lords, running drugs across our border, they have threatened to use their corrupt influence to cause them harm, no doubt they need such intel if they are going to be successful.
So far, none of these powerful entities have been able to stop the Minutemen. They've proven to be a hard target, they break no laws, they are not vigilantes nor a hate group, they're just another form of the "neighborhood watch", trying to protect America from illegal invasion by a host of criminals and illegal aliens. Despite our own gove
