Memorial Day 2006
By Jack Lee...
The ads read, "Huge Blow Out Sale, Now through Memorial Day", "One Day Sale - Memorial Day Only", "Our Biggest Memorial Day Sale Ever!", "Save Up to 60% - Memorial Day ONLY!" What has become of Memorial Day?
This special day did not mean "specials" at the mall, but seems like thats what most people use it for, not for honoring those who gave their all for freedom while in military service for this country. That's why I say, I hope you will use Monday to attend a memorial, conducted by your local American Legion, VFW or other veteran's organization. Chico's population is over 100,000, but last year barely a 250 people turned out for our Veteran's sponsored event at the Chico Cemetary. I wish more of you would attend and show you care. It would mean a lot to our WWII Vets who make up most of those present, they are disappearing so fast and we owe them a lot. Don't miss this chance to let them (and all vets) know you care.

MONDAY UPDATE: Chico Cemetary. 10 a.m.-11 a.m. There was a great turn out today, well over double last year's attendance!
Parents, if you didn't take your kids to see this event you missed a wonderful chance to share the pride, dignity and patriotism that was so abundant here this day. Kids need to be part of things like this; it's so important to developing good character and a respect for their country.
If you are one of those parents on the left that thinks this is all about glorifing war, you are entitled to your opinion, but the facts say otherwise. This was about honoring the heroism, idealism and selfless sacrifice that made this country the most successful democracy in the history of the world. Your children should be part of this too, regardless of your politics.
