Soldiers Tortured In Iraq

"Two US soldiers who went missing after an attack on their checkpoint have been found dead and were tortured before being killed, an Iraqi defence official says."

This is an outrage and if this had been done to a couple terrorists held in Gitmo, no doubt Muslim fanatics from Tehran to Islamobad would be out in the streets threatening death to Americans. Well, it's not the average American's thing to take their anger to the streets and beat our chests bloody with rage, but we will be more than willing to bloody the enemy that did that attrocity.

What follows will be done in a steely calm. It will be done carefully and deliberately. It is taking shape at this moment, somewhere, in a secure strategic operations room, far from the media and the primitive terrorists, who mistakenly think they are out of reach of justice. If they could only see what the future holds for them, it would be far more disturbing than a mere mob chanting death threats.

We the people, acting through our President and our military will soon take care of what must be done. When it is over, it will not be punctuated by bravado or politicizing, it will simply be closure for the victim's families and an end to the unremarkable lives of a few insignificant, but truly evil fanatics.

Indeed, American's in general, are happy to live life and let others live theirs in peace. The freedom to do so is basic in our culture. This is what makes the arguments against our efforts to defend ourselves so ludicrous. It's also what makes these viscious barbaric attacks so loathsome.

Our enemy is devoid of all humanity and grace; they are empty vessels where evil has come to live. They chose this aggressive path without uttering a single sylable of grievance. No opportunity was given to address complaints.
How does one hold out the hand of friendship to those who choose to destroy with savage rage and coldness? How else can we respond to those who, by creed, dismiss the basic right of others even to exist? There is no other alternative but to defeat them. There is no other choice than to bear the burden of trajedy and loss, of pain and tears shed for our brave defenders and their loved ones.

The outrage at the torture of these Americans is already over. The press has moved on. The story of Americans accused of killing an Iraqi civilian will eventually get more coverage. Coverage of what happened to our soldiers will never match (the inexcusable) virtual college hijinks that the press called torture at Abu Graib. The same individuals who decry Guantanamo will remain silent over the torture killing of these fine men.

The upside in Iraq has either been ruined by the left or stupidly mismanaged by the right. What remains intact nobody wants, but it's been given to the foot soldier to manage.

Our foot soldiers have performed exceptionally and continue to do so, but "whether ruined by the left or mismanaged by the right"...a project of this size and scope is never without struggles, mistakes, messes and disappointments. Our pentient for perfection may be blinding us to the fact that this effort ultimately is in the hands of those Iraqi's who desire a representive government. If they can "stay the course" it will succeed. The number of Iraqi's who voted, despite the threat of death, tells me the desire for freedom is strong. I'm waiting for the fat lady myself, but then I'm an unapologetic optimist.

“Do not try to do too much with your own hands. Better the Arabs do it tolerably than that you do it perfectly. It is their war, and you are to help them, not to win it for them. Actually, also, under the very odd conditions of Arabia, your practical work will not be as good as, perhaps, you think it is.
