And Another One Bites The Dust....
by Jack Lee
Book Review: "Christian Faith and the Truth Behind 9/11" Thumbs down...throw him to the lions! I say this with all due respect to my fellow Christians, whom this wacky author purports to represent, but in fact only represents his own ultra-minority view.
Professor emeritus, Dr. David Ray Griffin, Claremont School of Theology in California, known for his liberal rants, has really tarnished his career this time by publishing another good-for-nothing conspiracy book on 9/11. Griffin used an in-house Presbyterian book publisher, apparently because no other publisher would touch it. Griffin, accuses the Bush administration, "... of carrying out the attacks on 9/11 as a pretext for expanding America's "demonic" imperial power."
7500 books were published and almost none have been sold. Well, imagine that? Actually, I'm surprised that Iran didn't buy them up. In this book for the terminally naive, Griffin claims that the U.S. military could have intercepted the four hijacked jets if it had wanted to and that the hijacker accused of slamming an airliner into the Pentagon lacked the flying skills to do so. He also claims charges were pre-positioned in the WTC to make sure they came down when the jets crashed into them and it gets much worse.
Griffin makes wide-eyed liberal rhetoric look like kindergarten talk. He likens his (Bush's) foreign policy to the Imperial Roman Empire and says, he doesn't believe in literal evil spirits, but such empires as the USA and Rome have "demonic" power to do great harm.
It's no secret the 2.3 million-members of the Presbyterian Church has been struggling financially, suffering from declining membership at a time when the General Assembly made a controversial vote to open the door to ordaining gays and gay marriages. Then, just when many thought it couldn't get any worse, Dr. Griffin's book come out and to no ones surprise, it's a total flop. But, it brings more controversy to the Church at a time when they have plenty already.
Those who are not laughing at the book are absolutely furious over it...and at Griffin...and the Presbyterian Press...and the General Assembly that seems to be intent on ruining the good name of the Presbyterian Church. And how has this firestorm of controversy affected Dr. Griffin? He has lost all credibility among his peers, except for the crazies and the Bush haters found in dark caverns of the Internet like Moveon.org. Davis Perkins, president of the publishing company, said the book's stances are not those of the corporation or of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).
Too late for that disclaimer Dave...the words out and you can't back away from heat so easily.
My suggestion for Dr. Griffin is, take a sabbatical and don't come back.
