Playing Defense

by Tina Grazier

Cowboy George has done it again. The man is determined to follow through on his promise to keep Americans safe. When it comes to WMD the major focus has centered on nuclear arms with high tech solutions fordefense that includes the now celebrated "star wars" technology. But what is President Bush doing to protect the American people from biological attacks? According to the guys over at Newsmax.com the answer is

the NBACC or the National Biodefense Analysis and Countermeasures Center, a new facility that will house the world's most lethal bacteria and viruses. The purpose of the facilities research team is to answer the question, "What's the worst thing that could happen?" Researchers will conduct simulations and experiments through two major divisions, a forensic testing center and the BTCC or Biothreat Characterization Center. Security measures for the new facility are said to be even greater than our nuclear security measures.

I suppose this news will bring out the screaming meemies. We'll be treated to protest marches replete with banners of death and the usual frantic Hollywood actors. It's useless to try to reason with them, they hang out in a make believe world where doom and gloom provide the perfect avenue for conflict...the peaceniks secret addiction! Unfortunately, they are unwilling to imagine the role that this type of hero plays on the world's stage. They cannot get the commitment of these scientists or the dedication, discipline, service and secrecy required to do a job at a facility like this. These scientists are yet another group of unsung warriors who quietly work to defend our country and keep us safe and secure. I couldn't possibly do this work but I'm certainly thankful that someone will. And I'm thankful for the dedication of GWB.
