PREPARING FOR LIFE
by Tina Grazier
I ran across this little news bit today and it struck me how often we miss life's simple lessons because we choose instead to have a bad attitude or we refuse to realize that life is full of clues, signposts and markers and all we have to do is notice and learn. The article appeared in the Minneapolis Star Tribune and was titled "Welfare Recipients Face Piles of Paperwork".
Oh my...a world that requires paperwork?...how extraordinary! Excerpts from the article reveal the burdensome new laws:
"Dahlin, 24, is a Minneapolis mother on welfare who is job hunting and finishing her high school diploma. Changes in welfare laws mean that if she takes a class, someone has to sign a form to verify she attended each day. Ditto for verifying she's doing her homework."
"If she's looking for a job, it may have to be done at an employment agency -- not at her kitchen table -- so her hours can be counted. And if she applies for a job, she'll need someone at the business to sign a paper confirming she's been there."
"Dahlin, whose benefits could be cut if she doesn't comply, said that officials are 'making it far more difficult than it needs to be; it's not like you're some kind of ex-con.'"
No, "Dahlin", it's not like you're some kind of ex-con. It's more like you are a typical businessman or a taxpayer. Welcome to adult life under the liberal government ideal!
