Judging the Book by Content

by Tina Grazier

He has been called any number of names, names that ridiculed his intelligence, his character, his lack of polish and western flair and his inclination for verbal blundering. He has been criticized by his political opponents as well as his political peers. The hatred leveled at this man is perhaps understandable as he governs during extremely difficult and trying times. But is the criticism well-founded? I will not seek to defend or support him here but simply to

ask you to compare his words to the words of others that have filled the presidential shoes. Will you judge him by his cover or will you look within to discover the content? His vision is one shared by other great presidents:

"At the present moment in world history nearly every nation must choose between alternate ways of life. The choice is too often not a free one. Our way of life is based on the will of the majority, and is distinguished by free institutions, representative government, free elections, guarantees of individual freedom, freedom of speech and religion, and freedom from political oppression. The second way of life is based upon the will of the minority forcibly imposed upon the majority. It relies upon terror and oppression, a controlled press and radio, fixed elections, and the suppression of personal freedoms. I believe that it must be the policy of the United States to support free peoples who are resisting attempted subjugation by armed minorities or by outside pressures."

"I have sworn before you and Almighty God the same solemn oath our forebears prescribed nearly a century and three quarters ago. The world is very different now... And yet the same revolutionary beliefs for which our forbears fought are still at issue around the globe-the belief that the rights of man come not from the generosity of the state, but from the hand of God. Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, to assure the survival and success of liberty."

"We must be staunch in our conviction that freedom is not the sole prerogative of a lucky few, but the inalienable and universal right of all human beings... It would be cultural condescension, or worse, to say that people prefer dictatorship to democracy."

These are the words of Harry S. Truman, John F. Kennedy and Ronald Reagan respectively. They convey the substance and greatness of the American ideal which is to live free, being resolute so that others may also live free. After 911 this concept is born not only of tradition and desire but also of survival. It is a theme held by the generations of Americans who came before us and it must remain so for the benefit of future generations.

America has a chance, once again, to declare our intentions to the world. The world will be watching as we go to the polls. Our president is not in fact on the ballot but as far as the world is concerned he is on the ballot in spirit. Let us consider the words of our president and frame them within the context of the words of these former esteemed presidents determining the outcome our votes will ascertain. The following quotes were taken from the second Inaugural Address given by President George W. Bush:

"We are lead, by events and common sense, to one conclusion: The survival of liberty in our land increasingly depends on the success of liberty in other lands. The best hope for peace in our world is the expansion of freedom in all the world"

""...it is the policy of the United States to seek and support the growth of democratic movements and institutions in every nation and culture..."

"Some, I know, have questioned the global appeal of liberty-though...Americans, of all people, should never be surprised by the power of our ideals. Eventually the call of freedom comes to every mind and every soul... America will not pretend that jailed dissidents prefer their chains, or that women welcome their humiliation and servitude, or that any human being aspires to live at the mercy of bullies."

The leadership of the Democrat Party has abandoned these ideals of American freedom. Too often they seek or support the power of the few rather than lending support to those who champion the ideal of freedom. Because of this they cannot read or comprehend our president, they fail in their judgment of the book because they are too concerned with the peccadilloes of its cover.

Kerry Insults Soldiers

Paraphrasing John Kerry: "If you stay in school, and study hard, and make an effort to be smart, you can make it. If not you end up stuck in Iraq."

OH, MY GOODNESS!! I am shocked. Not for the reason your probably thinking though. Its no news to many of us that alot of high placed liberals dont think much of the military as a profession. Sure they pour accolades on us poor ignorant enlisted guys for the benefit of that sentimental, patriotic voting block; but thats only because many of these same people learned from personal experience that openly insulting service members is a bad idea.

The disdain however never left. Many liberals I know see the military as something you do if you couldnt get into college on your own merits (or the merits of your parents portfolio), and for some that is probably true. Just like I

think alot of liberals stay in school changing majors 4 or 5 times because the idea of leaving college for the real world where people demand results, not just petty theories is terrifying to them. But that is neither here nor there.

What is amazing is that John Kerry managed to say, for once, what he THOUGHT, not just what he thought the rest of us wanted to hear. I applaud his honesty. Many liberals dont seem to understand that we poor dumb enlisted guys picked up on the patronizing remarks, made for the benefit of the cameras, a long time ago. It is actually refreshing to hear a liberal say what they think.

Be proud John Kerry. You alone have managed to step forward and in no uncertain terms say loud and proud, that anyone who serves in the military for reasons other than having it as a page in their resume for a potential political carrer; are saps who couldnt make it in the scary world of.....college!!!

On behalf of myself and the rest of us simpletons I salute your candor. Perhaps you can convince more of your political persuasion to finally come out and tell it like it is for the benefit of the voting public. Dont worry, us military folk are probably to stupid to understand the joke anyway, right?

I guess we'll just scurry off now to our mindless occupation where we train and advise thousands of indigenous personnel in a combat enviornment for the purpose of establishing democracy in a portion of the planet that has never experienced it. And in the process directly contirbute to those history books they read over at the university.

If only more liberals were willing to go over there and show us how to do it right.

P.S. I'm saving the bottom portion of this post for the sarcasm to drip off and collect.

What Will Those Crazy Dems Do?

by Tina Grazier

We have been treated to weeks and weeks of campaign rhetoric and shock-wave media frenzy. Most of it so dazzling that it's rendered us dizzy and about to hurl. So I'm sure, good reader, that more information is just what you desire...no? Well, here it is anyway. The Patriot Post was kind enough to pass on likely democrat legislative faire if we should give them the privilege of serving "we the people". I give you the democrat record of proposed legislation from 2005 forward (and they said they weren't given a chance!):

*Charles Rangel (D-NY) proposed the "Crack-Cocaine Equitable Sentencing Act" (HR 2456) to eliminate mandatory sentencing for crack-cocaine convictions.

*Barbara Lee (D-CA) put forward the "Justice for the Unprotected against Sexually Transmitted Infections among the Confined and Exposed (JUSTICE) Act" (HR 6083) to permit the distribution of prophylactics in prisons.

*Robert Wexler (D-FL) offered the "Social Security Forever Act" (HR 2472) to create a new tax on workers, employers and the self-employed to keep Social Security afloat.

*Jerrold Nadler, (D-NY) proffered the "Antibullying Campaign Act" (HR 3787) to institute a federal-grant program against bullying in schools.

* John Dingell (D-MI) offered up a pair of bills, the "National Health Insurance Act" (HR 15) and the "Medicare for All Act" (HR 4683), each raising taxes to promote socialized health care.

*Rep. Barney Frank proposed the bill (HR 1052) for taxpayer-funded adult diapers, "To provide for coverage under the Medicare and Medicaid Programs of incontinence undergarments".

*Dennis Kucinich (D-OH), in the spirit of Lennon, offered the "Department of Peace and Nonviolence Act" (HR 3760) to establish a U.S. Department of Peace and Nonviolence to... well, act peacefully and non-violently.

Also in the mix during the past two years were bills to legalize medical marijuana (HR 2087), grant voting rights to ex-cons (HR 663), create a right to unrestricted late-term abortion (HR 5151), and provide gas to the poor at taxpayer expense (HR 3712). Proposed amendments to the Constitution include one guaranteeing equal public education (HJ Res 29) and equal health care (HJ Res 30), as well as constitutional rights to housing (HJ Res 40) and full employment (HJ Res 35).

Democrats believe they are god and your fairy godmother all rolled into one! Heaven help us from their constant meddling, fixing and helping BUT, for your final voting pleasure, the most idiotic and irresponsible of them all:

*Jim McGovern (D-MA) proposed his "End the War in Iraq Act" (HR 4232), which sought to defund the war in Iraq immediately and force a complete troop withdrawal.

Strange Brew-A Halloween Treat

by Tina Grazier

In February, 1692, three accused women were examined by Magistrates Jonathan Corwin and John Hathorne... By the time the hysteria had spent itself, 24 people had died. Nineteen were hanged on Gallows Hill in Salem Town, but some died in prison. Giles Corey at first pleaded not guilty to charges of witchcraft, but subsequently refused to stand trial. This refusal meant he could not be convicted legally. However, his examiners chose to subject him to interrogation by the placing of stone weights on his body. He survived this brutal torture for two days before dying. It is remarkable

552 original documents pertaining to the witchcraft trials have been preserved and are still stored by the Peabody Essex Museum.

Eerie memorabilia associated with the trials, such as the "Witch Pins" used in the examination of witches and a small bottle supposed to contain the finger bones of the victim George Jacobs can be found there as well. (Salem Mass. Webpage)

Days and nights has thirty-one Swelter'd venom sleeping got,
Boil thou first i' the charmed pot.
Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn, and cauldron bubble.
Fillet of a fenny snake,
In the cauldron boil and bake;
Eye of newt and toe of frog,
Wool of bat and tongue of dog,
Adder's fork and blind-worm's sting,
Lizard's leg and owlet's wing,
For a charm of powerful trouble,
Like a hell-broth boil and bubble.
Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn and cauldron bubble.
-Macbeth- William Shakespeare

And now a Reuters tale....

One of Salem Massachusetts' oldest living and practicing witches is conjuring up a strange brew for civic leaders across the state. Back in 1975 then-governor Michael Dukakis proclaimed Laurie Cabot Salem's official witch and within a decade she successfully waged a fight for the civil rights of witches by starting a letter writing campaign...now, sheeees back!

"I'd like to canvass the whole of the United States, city by city, and give every official this law memorandum,"...quoting from a U.S. court of appeals ruling, "While there are certainly aspects of Wiccan
philosophy that may strike most people as strange or incomprehensible, the mere fact that a belief may be unusual does not strip it of constitutional protection."

Cabot says that posters hung on government walls showing witches as old hags in green face and riding brooms could lead to defamation suits:

"If they don't protect us and take care of us like everyone else, then they could be sued," she said. Cabot founded the Witches League for Self-Awareness in 1986. She also wants the military to let Wiccan soldiers have faith symbols inscribed on their government-issued tombstones.

October 30, 1938 ... Orson Welles causes a nationwide panic with his broadcast of "War of the Worlds"--a realistic radio dramatization of a Martian invasion of Earth.Orson Welles was

only 23 years old when his Mercury Theater company decided to update H.G. Wells' 19th-century science fiction novel War of the Worlds for national radio. Despite his age, Welles had been in radio for several years, most notably as the voice of "The Shadow" in the hit mystery program of the same name. "War of the Worlds" was not planned as a radio hoax, and Welles had little idea of the havoc it would cause. The show began on Sunday, October 30, at 8 p.m. A voice announced: "The Columbia Broadcasting System and its affiliated stations present Orson Welles and the Mercury Theater on the air in 'War of the Worlds' by H.G. Wells."Sunday evening in 1938 was prime-time in the golden age of radio, and
millions of Americans had their radios turned on. But most of these Americans were listening to ventriloquist Edgar Bergen and his dummy "Charlie McCarthy" on NBC and only turned to CBS at 8:12 p.m. after the comedy sketch ended and a little-known singer went on. By then, the story of the Martian invasion was well underway.Welles introduced his radio play with a spoken introduction, followed by an announcer reading a weather report. Then, seemingly abandoning the storyline, the announcer took listeners to "the Meridian Room in the Hotel Park Plaza in downtown New York, where you will be entertained by the music of Ramon Raquello and his orchestra." Putrid dance music played for some time, and then the scare began. An announcer broke in to report that "Professor Farrell of the Mount Jenning Observatory" had detected explosions on the planet Mars. Then the dance music came back on, followed by another interruption in which listeners were informed that a large meteor had crashed into a farmer's field in Grovers Mills, New Jersey.Soon, an announcer was at the crash site describing a Martian emerging from a large metallic cylinder. "Good heavens," he declared, "something's wriggling out of the shadow like a gray snake. Now here's another and another one and another one. They look like tentacles to me ... I can see
the thing's body now. It's large, large as a bear. It glistens like wet leather. But that face, it ...it ... ladies and gentlemen, it's indescribable. I can hardly force myself to keep looking at it, it's so awful. The eyes are black and
gleam like a serpent. The mouth is kind of V-shaped with saliva dripping from its rimless lips that seem to quiver and pulsate."The Martians mounted walking war machines and fired "heat-ray" weapons at the puny humans gathered around the crash site. They annihilated a force of 7,000 National Guardsman, and after being attacked by artillery and bombers the Martians released a poisonous gas into the air. Soon "Martian cylinders" landed in Chicago and St. Louis. The radio play was extremely realistic, with Welles employing sophisticated sound effects and his actors doing an excellent job portraying terrified announcers and other characters. An announcer reported that widespread panic had broken out in the vicinity of the landing sites, with thousands desperately trying to flee.
In fact, that was not far from the truth.Perhaps as many as a million radio listeners believed that a real Martian invasion was underway. Panic broke out across the country. In New Jersey, terrified civilians jammed highways seeking to escape the alien marauders. People begged police for gas masks to save them from the toxic gas and asked electric companies to turn off the power so that the Martians wouldn't see their lights. One woman ran into an Indianapolis church where evening services were being held and yelled, "New York has been destroyed! It's the end of the world! Go home and prepare to die!"When news of the real-life panic leaked into the CBS studio, Welles went on the air as himself to remind listeners that it was just fiction. There were rumors that the show caused suicides, but none were ever confirmed. The Federal Communications Commission investigated the program but found no law was broken. Networks did agree to be more cautious in their programming in the future. Orson Welles
feared that the controversy generated by "War of the Worlds" would ruin his career. In fact, the publicity helped land him a contract with a Hollywood studio, and in 1941 he directed, wrote, produced, and starred in Citizen Kane--a movie that many have called the greatest American film ever made.

Rays of Sunshine & Light

by Tina Grazier

We have just completed a very bloody month in Iraq at the hands of those who say they act as warriors for the "religion of peace". Just when things are looking very dark, when voices, raised in declarations of defeat and ruin, grow louder, a ray of sunshine...

"Now, suddenly, we are beginning to see cracks in the facade of Arab harmony and unity. Distinct voices are being heard, publicly and in the press, speaking lovingly of their people but critical of the direction the Arab world has taken."

"Hosni Mubarak the acknowledged big brother and political advisor to a large segment of the Arab world is the first Arab leader to acknowledge the flawed path Islam has taken and to speak out for change. Last week the president of Egypt delivered his message by means of the national Egyptian media. In a live television appearance Mubarak, a man who minces no words, said: 'Shouldn't we Muslims shoulder part of the responsibility of these wrong ideas about Islam? Have we fulfilled our duty in correcting the image of Islam and the Muslims? What did we do to face a terrorism that wears Islam's cloak and targets the lives of the people?'"

"In a very self critical column published in the Palestinian weekly al-Ayam, Hamad posed some very thoughtful and introspective questions reprimanding his own society. He takes them to task for embracing violence as a way of life, for allowing violent means to supplant any and all other forms of personal expression. Hamad asked: 'Are we truly a violent society?' 'Do we suffer from the chronic illness of violence?' 'Have we become people who believe that all our problems can be resolved only through violence, with a bullet, a shell, a blatant leaflet and harsh words?'"

A Small Price for Freedom

by Tina Grazier

Reading the Sunday news made me feel hopeful for the future, even with the so called "mess" in Iraq. I perceive a slight change in attitude. Loud screams of protest are quietly giving way to acceptance by some,

and a strong will to fight in others. Ordinary people are beginning to envision the ugly repressive reality of a terrorist win. The following quote by one man, speaking the truth about his personal irresolute tendencies, reflects what has been the general attitude of many others:

...writer Oscar van den Boogaard from the Belgian paper De Standaard, reflecting on the accelerating Islamification of the Continent and concluding that the jig was up for the Europe he loved. "I am not a
warrior, but who is?" he shrugged. "I have never learned to fight for my freedom. I was only good at enjoying it."
quoted from Mark Steyn's Chicago Sun-Times article, "Only Choice in War is to Win or Lose it"

The turning, or changing, of a situation is often experienced by a simple telling of truth. We in the west have been good at enjoying our freedom, so good we have become complacent. Could it be that the world is now prepared for a turning in this war on terrorism? Is it possible that freedom loving people around the world are awakening to the gravity of the situation and re-evaluating their own specific attitudes and truths?

Freedom has provided us many luxuries both material and social in nature. One such luxery is tolerance and we have taken this virtue to an extreme that may be harming us. Writing on his blog "Doc's Talk", Dr. Don Morris illuminates the problem of political correctness in a world plagued by terrorists:

"We have created a social consciousness that has invented "political correctness" as an operational behavior in our daily speaking lives. People are fearful of upsetting someone else or goodness gracious offending someone. This has lead to "passive acceptance" of others behavioral practices. We are not standing up to or by our internal
behavioral principles. The consequences to each of us are enormous. The regretful results are dangerous to our country. Curiously political correctness does not seem to be part of other peoples' culture and thus they are not bound by it. However, it is used against us and has highlighted our Achilles heel."
G.S. Don Morris, Ph.D. Oct. 16, 2006 writing on his blog "Doc's Talk", Find the fill article here

It's not easy to move people away from "passive acceptance" to active participation. The fear, I suppose, is that we might be asked to do something we don't want to do or are afraid to do. We might find that our principles are being challenged. The voice of one very courageous woman acts both as reality check and inspiration. Find her article, Muslim Women are the Key to Changein the UK Sunday Times:

Ayaan Hirsi Ali lives under a death threat for daring to challenge the Islamic patriarchy and says the West must support women like her if it wants to spread freedom. "Ideas can be dangerous. I have learnt that the hard way. But I know that when it comes to freedom and human rights these precious ideas, so valued in the West, are worth fighting for."

"In Islamic societies the veil functions as a constant reminder to the outside world of a stifling morality that makes a Muslim man's honour entirely dependent on the respectable, obedient behaviour of the female members of his family.'

"I am living proof that Muslim women in the West can only benefit from turning away from the principles in their faith that justify subordination and embracing those of liberty in their host cultures. But there is a high price for urging Muslims to examine their beliefs. I have received death threats for becoming an infidel and two years ago
the airing of a film about the oppression of women which I made with the director Theo van Gogh resulted in his murder by an Islamic terrorist.

Right now the only thing being asked of a majority of Americans is that we provide the energy to create an unyielding force to defeat this enemy. Even as some continue to be pessimistic, there are clear signs that others are awakening to the need for a unified front and an unbending formidable will. It's a small price to pay for our continued freedom.

Zombies Vote Nov. 9th

by Jack Lee
zombie.bmpIt's estimated that only 35% of the eligible voters are going to vote in November. If Democrats win back the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi will become Speaker. This position is a mere two heartbeats away from the Presidency and that should concern you, but polls show that about 60% of American's don't know who Nancy Pelosi is

and that implies they really don't care. These people are what Bill O'Rielly likes to call, mall zombies. They're out there in public places, they are seen wandering around the malls, but they're not really cognizant of the world around them! That's scary...but, the really scary part is the "mall zombie" vote could potentially cancel out your informed vote by a 2 to 1 margin!

On a more personal level...I have a daughter who is a registered democrat and she has bought into all the liberal propaganda junk, despite my many attempts at reason via family discussions, sibbling coercion, etc. First, let me say she's a really sweet, kind and trusting girl. (She trusts and believes anything a liberal says) She gives money to any person in old clothes holding up a carboard sign. She feels the homeless are all victims of society and by giving money we'll fix it. (Any of this sound remotely familiar?)

She believes white men are basically evil and have exploited everybody from indians to africans. She's into crystals, yoga and believes inanimate objects have feelings. She talks to her car engine when it won't start and when it finally starts, she says, "See!" Her car, her boat, etc., all have female names. She's invested heavily into her CD collection as opposed to her other sisters and brother who've invested in real CDs (certificates of deposit). She's always been rather emotional when it comes to politics, but the frustrating part is, she doesn't ever take the time to do any research. As she explains, it's too tedious and she doesn't want to get "bummed out" over stuff she can't control and doesn't understand.

On those occassions when she brings up some liberal idea she just heard, she terminates the conversation before I can get in 2 words in on rebuttal. For instance, the other day she said right out of the blue, "War is stupid and I really, really hate George Bush!" I don't know what prompted this because she never watches the news or reads news articles, I'm surprised she knows who Bush is! So, knowing her strong view on Bush, I decide to skip that part and went with, "Well, nobody I know likes war, but sometimes war is necessary in defense of freedom or sometimes just to keep people from killing us." She cut me off! She just gets up and starts walking out of the living room with a mad on.... "I just don't want to hear it! War is sick...I can't discuss it" End of conversation. She doesn't know who Nancy Pelosi is either. And all this makes her my vision of the consumate democratic voter.

PS There's a little note I put up on the refrigerator that says, "Don't forget to vote on Nov 9th Thursday". One can only hope she will notice it. For the rest of us, we'll cast our vote.... Tuesday.

LaCrosse Players Still Being Charged With Rape

"The district attorney prosecuting three Duke lacrosse players accused of raping a woman at a team party said during a court hearing Friday that he still hasn't interviewed the accuser about the facts of the case. "I've had conversations with (the accuser) about how she's doing. I've had conversations with (the accuser) about her seeing her kids," Mike Nifong said. "I haven't talked with her about the facts of that night. ... We're not at that stage yet." WHAT, NOT AT THAT STAGE YET!??? NIFONG YOU'RE AN INCOMPETENT IDIOT! THAT RAPE WAS 6 MONTHS AGO AND YOU STILL HAVE NOT INTERVIEWED HER TO ESTABLISH HER CREDIBILITY? UNBELIEVABLE!!! Sorry, that just slipped out...continue reading....

Nifong made the statement in response to a defense request for any statements the woman has made about the case.

"I understand the answer may not be the answer they want but it's the true answer. That's all I can give them," the prosecutor said after the hourlong hearing.

Defense lawyers said outside court that they found Nifong's statement surprising.

"One of the most interesting things to me of course is Mr. Nifong did admit that he in fact has basically never talked to this woman and has absolutely no idea what her story is, and yet he has chosen to continue to go forward with this case," defense lawyer Joseph Cheshire said.

Nifong said none of his assistants have discussed the case with the woman either and only have spoken with her to monitor her well-being. They have left the investigation of the case to police, he said.

Attorneys for indicted player Dave Evans wrote in a letter to Nifong earlier this month that they believed he had talked with the accuser based on a court motion in which Nifong stated the woman told him she had not taken the drug Ecstasy on the night of the March 13 team party for which she was hired to perform as a stripper.

In response to a claim by a lawyer for an unindicted player, Nifong said he called the accuser to ask her whether she had used the drug.

"She said, 'I've never taken Ecstasy,'" Nifong said. "That was the extent of the conversation because that's all I had to know."

Nifong said he met with the accuser and an investigator on April 11, but didn't discuss details of the case because the woman was "too traumatized." Nifong said the woman didn't make eye contact with him and often seemed on the verge of crying. Their discussion centered around how the case would develop, he said.

"She probably did not speak 15 words during the meeting," Nifong said.

Evans, 23, of Bethesda, Md., was charged in May with rape, kidnapping and sexual offense. A month earlier, a grand jury indicted players Reade Seligmann, 20, of Essex Fells, N.J., and Collin Finnerty, 20, of Garden City, N.Y., on the same charges. The accuser, a student at nearby North Carolina Central University, told police she was raped in a bathroom by three men at the off-campus party.

The players' lawyers have strongly proclaimed their innocence.

Uncovered Meat...

by Sheik al-Jak-Le
hilaliandfriends.jpg(Photo of Sheik al Hilali and followers)

They swing their hips, they expose parts of their body to incite the natural sexual inclinations of men and when women get raped (and this is the comical part) they say, oh its man’s fault! Ha, ha, ha, how ridiculous is that?

If they were in the home attending to business and not out flaunting themselves, such things would never happen. This is the message brought to the followers of Sheik Taj Din al-Hilali and other Islamic Imam’s. Actually, his exact words were, “If you take out uncovered meat and place it outside on the street, or in the garden or in the park, or in the backyard without a cover, and the cats come and eat it ... whose fault is it, the cats or the uncovered meat?

"The uncovered meat is the problem."

The sheik then said: “If she was in her room, in her home, in her hijab, no problem would have occurred." It's hard to argue with his logic, but then he has a sharp mind from a life of interpreting the Koran, he's an educator, a teacher and a moral leader, like so many other Imams around the world spreading their enlightened thought to the wretched masses. al-Hilali is the Islamic leader for thousands of Australia’s Muslims who
have decided to stand by their man, amid a culture class with Australian Infidels over his words of wisdom. Members of his Mosque said, "He should not be judged on merit of one comment, taken out of context when we know this is not what he meant. The sheik also said, “If a woman is covered and respectful, she demands respect from a man. But when she is cheap, she throws herself at the man and cheapens herself."

In more cultured countries, such as Iran, there are Islamic law enforcement teams that will confront cheap women. This might be a cheap woman showing off her ankles or forearms, or worse.... exposing her hairdo in public! These are and should be, moral outrages to all civilized men lest they be tempted to rape. In Iran, sometimes a cheap woman might get a warning and sent home to their husband who will administer a beating in proportion to her offense and sometimes she might get an on the spot corporal punishment... if the enforcement team feels she needs it or if no husband is available to do it. Of course, this is not really punishment as some westerners might think; this is a form of protection for the good of all women. In a sense, it is actually showing respect for Muslim women by helping them be of good character! If it takes a beating every now and then so be it. This is the philosophy behind the wearing of the Habib and veil...protection. Some westerners don’t understand this and see it only as a form of oppression and subservience, keeping women cloistered like property, but they are very, very wrong!

For instance, you may think the Taliban were harsh towards their women, when in fact the Taliban regularly demonstrated the greatest respect their women (until the American’s removed them from power). If an Islamic woman in Afghanistan was defiling herself by wearing makeup or seeking an education to dominate or displace a man, who is THE rightful leader of his house, she would be severly beaten or in severe cases where lipgloss was used, she might be stoned to death. And why not? I submit, she was a temptress, encouraging women to disobey their husbands and not tend to household duties. Such things must be nipped in the bud, who knows where it could lead if left unchecked? But, since the removal of the Taliban such helpful and caring things are no longer openly practiced and educational beatings and stonings must done in the privacy of one's home or in back alleys if the opportunity presents itself.

Why am I telling you all this, you may wonder? It is for your own good, as the day fast approaches when women in America will be treated with "respect" and you should all be prepared. You must understand the true nature and intent behind certain rules in Islam, rules designed to keep women in their place; safe and secure in their home doing women things and serving their man. The Muslim religion is the fastest growing religion in the world and the Muslim community in America now numbers of 1 million, so when you so an American woman covered in black (wearing habib) and a veil, do not feel sorry for her, she is smiling under her veil knowing that her man cares enough to keep his little treasure covered and all for himself. Give her a thumbs up, she deserves it, because she is paving the way for women in the future.

And one last thing....Remember today's lesson...cover your meat!

Home prices plunge! The median price of a new home plunged in September by the largest amount in more than 35 years, even as the pace of sales rebounded for a second month.

INFLATION ALERT: Rent, not home price, is used to calculate inflation. Rising rent numbers detailed in the link below could alter inflation projections, causing a cascade of problems from higher interest rates to plunging a record high DOW (we've been saying that on Post Scripts for months).

U.S. stock losses intensified Friday afternoon, as a weaker-than-expected third-quarter gross-domestic-product report provided an excuse for investors to take a break from a recent rally...blamed on mostly cooling in housing market.

The Commerce Department reported that the median price for a new home sold in September was $217,100, a drop of 9.7 percent from September It was the lowest median price for a new home since September 2004 and the sharpest year-over-year decline since December 1970. The weakness in new home prices was even sharper than a 2.5 percent fall in the price of existing homes last month, which had been the biggest drop on record.

In the quarter ended Sept. 30, the average advertised rent reached $978, up 3.9 percent over the year-ago period, according to an analysis of 75 markets by real estate research firm Reis Inc. in New York. Some of the biggest increases were seen in Florida and Southern California.

Today in history: Shootout at the OK Corral, October 26, 1881, On this day in 1881, the Earp brothers face off against the Clanton-McLaury gang in a legendary shootout at the OK Corral in Tombstone, Arizona.

After silver was discovered nearby in 1877, Tombstone quickly grew into one of the richest mining towns in the Southwest. Wyatt Earp, a former Kansas police officer working as a bank security guard, and his brothers, Morgan and Virgil, the town marshal, represented "law and order" in Tombstone, though they also had reputations as being power-hungry and ruthless. The Clantons and McLaurys were cowboys who lived on a ranch outside of town and sidelined as cattle rustlers, thieves and murderers. In October 1881, the struggle between these two groups for control of Tombstone and Cochise County ended in a blaze of gunfire at the OK Corral.

On the morning of October 25, Ike Clanton and Tom McLaury came into Tombstone for supplies. Over the next 24 hours, the two men had several violent run-ins with the Earps and their friend Doc Holliday. Around 1:30 p.m. on October 26, Ike's brother Billy rode into town to join them, along with Frank McLaury and Billy Claiborne. The first person they met in the local saloon was Holliday, who was delighted to inform them that their brothers had both been pistol-whipped by the Earps. Frank and Billy immediately left the saloon, vowing revenge.

Around 3 p.m., the Earps and Holliday spotted the five members of the Clanton-McLaury gang in a vacant lot behind the OK Corral, at the end of Fremont Street. The famous gunfight that ensued lasted all of 30 seconds, and around 30 shots were fired. Though it's still debated who fired the first shot, most reports say that the shootout began when Virgil Earp pulled out his revolver and shot Billy Clanton point-blank in the chest, while Doc Holliday fired a shotgun blast at Tom McLaury's chest. Though Wyatt Earp wounded Frank McLaury with a shot in the stomach, Frank managed to get off a few shots before collapsing, as did Billy Clanton. When the dust cleared, Billy Clanton and the McLaury brothers were dead, and Virgil and Morgan Earp and Doc Holliday were wounded. Ike Clanton and Claiborne had run for the hills.

Sheriff John Behan of Cochise County, who witnessed the shootout, charged the Earps and Holliday with murder. A month later, however, a Tombstone judge found the men not guilty, ruling that they were "fully justified in committing these homicides." The famous shootout has been immortalized in many movies, including Frontier Marshal (1939), Gunfight at the OK Corral (1957), Tombstone (1993) and Wyatt Earp (1994). Discovery Channel

What happens IF we pull out?

by Jack Lee
Iraq fighting.jpgWhat happens if we pull out of Iraq? A civil war on an apocalyptic scale is my guess.

You probably guessed about the same, because you know there's so much hate that has built up from 30 years of Saddam's regime and a 1000 years of conflict within Islam. We see it spilling over in the form of sectarian violence every day. Iraq's become like a huge pressure religious cooker and look who is sitting on the lid!

Without our presence to keep that lid in place only the terminally naive could believe it will not immediately explode into a bloody civil war. So, the questions before us as we enter into this election, what happens if we DO leave suddenly and what is the long range prognosis? Better yet, is it even possible for us to keep this situation from exploding? I'll be the first to admit, I don't know and I doubt even Solomon could know, however we can make a few guesstaments or extrapolations based on what we do know from recent past practice and my favorite teacher....history.

Sunni's are the moderates and they are currently better funded than their opposition, the Shiite's who are more numerous by a 3 to 1 ratio. Sunni's in some countries, like Saudi Arabia, have turned to fundamentalism in their religious schools for Jihadists to counter the Shia Jihadists that threaten them. Obviously this is not their only motive for producing fundamentalist radicals, but that's another problem for another time.

The potential for the spread of violence is incredibly high
and consequences could be long lasting and catastrophic.

The issues in this pending conflict may seem new, but they are as old as the origins of religion and the chaos that followed when two competing religions first met. The far right of Shia's and the far right of the Sunni', devoutly and intractably believe... their interpretation of Islam is the right interpretation and they will fight to death to prove it. They believe to question their religious authority is to contradict the word of God. They truly believe their struggle is just and no sacrifice is too great; better to die for God and live in heaven than to exist in world surrounded by corruption or usurpers (mistaken believers in Islam). They both believe they will prevail because God ordains it; they are the chosen ones. The more centrists views inside the Nation of Islam either fall on deaf ears or if they are too close to the radicals, then they are not openly expressed for logical reasons of self preservation!

On strictly religious terms, the Gulf region and to some degree, all Muslim nations, have a vested interest in the future of Iraq and their reasons are varied, complex and often passion driven. Given this passion element, it doesn't take a leap of logic to see how a religious war in Iraq could draw in determined fighters from every nation in the world with a substantial Islamic population...this includes a number of European countries too. Let's not overlook the Islamofication of Europe and all that it means when push comes to beheading. The potential for the spread of violence is incredibly high and consequences could be long lasting and catastrophic.

"This is complicated stuff!" Donald Rumsfeld - 10/26/06

If the Shia in Iraq prevail they will have done so with the aid of the US. They would not have had a chance under the Bathist regime. They would be somewhat indebted to us if this happened, but then the influence from Iran would be greater than ever as a Shia corridor would exist from Tehran to the Red Sea and that can't be good for anyone. If the Sunni prevail it will be because of Turkey, Egypt, Syria and Saudi Arabia. I know, we haven't even got to what all this means for Al Qaeda. Chaos creates a vacuum of power and there's Al Qaeda's opportunity to exploit. Connect those dots friends...it's mind numbing. I'm sure this was the reason Bush Sr. left Hussein in charge after Gulf 1!

How far do you want to extrapolate this potential conflict? I suppose I could go on for pages, but in the spirit of a blog I'll leave the rest to your imagination and to your "comments". To that end, Tina and I would really like to hear what you have to say!

Boys and Girls Together or Maybe Not

by Tina Grazier

A few years back I was fascinated by the stories of a teacher who had taught at an all boys school for twenty or so years. He was talking about his experience after he transferred to an all girls school. He taught science, and try

as he might, he just couldn't seem to get the subject across to his all female class. They were paying attention but
they were not getting the material. Eventually he realized that the girls responded better when he demonstrated the concepts. After that he put together all kinds of visual aids and the class performed much better.

Today I heard on the radio that school districts will now have the option of creating all boy or all girl classrooms or schools so I looked for the story:

Posted at Lucianne.com, NYT article: WASHINGTON -- The Bush administration is giving public school districts broad new latitude to expand the number of single-sex classes, and even schools, in what is widely considered the most significant policy change on the issue since a landmark federal law barring sex discrimination in education more than 30 years ago. Two years in the making, the new rules, announced today by the Education Department, will allow school districts to create single-sex schools and classes...

LA Bust Uncovers Dopes

by Tina Grazier

Three kinds of "dopes" to be exact!

AP: "A drug bust at a trailer park in New Mexico turned up what appeared to be classified documents taken from the Los Alamos nuclear weapons laboratory, authorities said Tuesday.

Local police found the documents while arresting a man suspected of domestic violence and dealing methamphetamine from his mobile home, said Sgt. Chuck Ney of the Los Alamos, N.M., Municipal Police Department. The documents were discovered during a search of the man's records for evidence of his drug business, Ney said."

The Los Alamos police officers contacted the FBI and they traced the records to one of the lab's contract employees, a woman. It takes a real dope to associate with a drug dealer in any circumstance, but a person
with a security clearance? That's a very special kind of stupidity. And if she doesn't have top secret clearance what does that say about security at the facility? Things are just not what they used to be in the top secret world at the LA lab.

"The federal charge of unauthorized removal and retention of classified material is a misdemeanor that carries a maximum sentence of a year in prison and up to a $100,000 fine."

Ya think?

Do you really want to sit through that searing historical drama from the Royal Shakespeare Company? Or would you rather be at the sex comedy next door? In the 1990s, Americans opted for the sex comedy--or so they thought. But in reality the searing historical drama carried on; it was always there, way off in the background, behind the yuk-it-up narcissist trouser-dropper staggering around downstage. The mood of the times was to kick the serious stuff down the road so we could get back to President Lounge Act offering to feel our pain..."

Pelosi Takes Another Spin

by Tina Grazier

A few months ago the Washington Post reported that Nancy Palosi, while speaking for her party, said the first thing they would do is "launch a series of investigations, including the run-up to the war." She went on to say that "impeachment was not on the agenda", but added: "You never know where it leads to."

On "CBS's "60 Minutes" last Sunday she made the "no impeachment" promise an official pledge:

"Yes, it is a pledge," she said. "Of course it is."

After declaring impeachment a "waste of time" she went on to say:

"Wouldn't they just love it if we came in and our record as Democrats coming forth after 12 years is to talk about George Bush and Dick Cheney? This election is about them. This is a referendum on them. Making them lame ducks is good enough for me."

Of course everyone knows that pledges are meant to be broken...you never know where a series of investigations might lead...wink, wink.

Counting Virtual Votes

by Tina Grazier

People of all kinds at home and around the world are casting early votes for our coming November elections.

Pollsters, for instance, don't poll all the time, but quite often when they do, they poll for effect. Some have even suggested they poll to make news. The economy is doing well under this republican watch, yet there are no polls regarding the economy. In fact, it's hard to find a story that reports the extraordinarily

great news of this economy. "It's the economy, stupid" was a recent election war cry and yet we are not being treated to economic polls as we would be if it would harm the pubbies chances. So, color me paranoid if you want, I still say pollsters are voting.

The "drive by media", as Rush calls them, are also voting early...and often, reporting ad nauseum on the "likely" win by dems. I'm suspicious of their motives, partly because they pretend to be neutral and positively because I have observed their machinations through the years. At any rate, the push is on to convince you and I that we Americans are sick of republicans and will therefore sweep the dems back into power where they will be in power for the next forty years.

In his recent speech before the UN even Hugo Chavez pulled the lever for democrats as he colorfully bashed President Bush. He was counting on Americans to be ready for change if only to escape the discomfort of feeling embarrassed or guilty about our president. His anti-American, anti-Bush diatribe was well timed, especially when you consider his recent talks with Iran's leader, the nut job.

Terrorists have also decided to vote early and with vigor. It is no accident that the last month has been extremely bloody in Iraq. As any clever terrorist leader would tell you, propaganda can make all the difference in changing the will of the people. Americans are believed to be weak, soft targets for this particular brand of warfare. Bad news breeds weak knees and loud cries to withdraw and all that is required is extreme brutality and a few well placed reports complete with pictures. There are few, if any, stories in the press about what our soldiers accomplish or how well they have performed. There are few stories like we saw in WWII that send the message of a positive outcome. This kind of news might be discouraging to the enemy and favorable toward the current administration. It might also sway the election in favor of republicans, and we can't have that.

Even American Generals have joined in the fray coming forward with criticisms of the administration's war plans and strategy in apparent conflict with the usual lines of protocol in the military.

The Democrat Party has managed to gain early support from a wide and varied constituency made up of major networks and newspapers and assorted Generals and pollsters. The additions of terrorists and dictators points to a low spot in American election history. We've been here before, but with freedom and democracy in jeopardy around the world, my question is, how do they sleep at night?

Personally, I'm not convinced that all this early voting will result in a democrat sweep. The only thing I am sure of is that the election will be messy, even after the real voting is done.

Best Place to Buy Vitamins for Cheap

by Jack Lee

This is not a commercial, it's a shopping tip! Some years ago a friend of mine gave me this site and it is by far the

best place I have found for buying vitamins and savings of up to 80% over local store prices. As my friend explained, there are only about 3 or 4 manufacturers of vitamins and supplements and about all that seperates one vitamin from another is the labeling. So if you're hung up on a label, this is not the place for you, but, if you want to save some money...it really is! Ok, here is the link. Check it out and tell me what you think.

Anthropogenic Warming?

by Tina Grazier

What if we, people I mean, are not responsible for global warming? What if global warming is a natural cyclic phenomenon? Environmental awareness has caused most Americans to be more conscientious about the way we live and dispose of things; it's time we became more aware of the ways we study things and draw conclusions. We are being asked to make big decisions around this notion of global warming; decisions that can, and will, drastically change our lives. We deserve to have reliable information based on solid science before making those decisions. There is sufficient evidence to suggest that alternate scientific opinions are available; opinions from folks more qualified than the esteemed scientist, Albert Gore, among others. The environmental magazine Grist recently interviewed the former vice president who insinuated the American people were a bit stupid and then said:

"I believe it is appropriate to have an over-representation of factual presentations on how dangerous it is, as a predicate for opening up the audience to listen to what the solutions are, and how hopeful it is that we are going to solve this crisis."

An "over-representation of factual presentations on how dangerous...for opening up the audience to listen"? I hear him saying...it's OK to lie to them and scare the He** out of them so they'll buy what we say...it certainly doesn't sound like he respects our ability to understand or get to the truth.

Grist" also recently had to retract statements by staff writer David Roberts calling for Nuremberg-style trials for skeptics:

"When we've finally gotten serious about global warming, when the impacts are really hitting us and we're in a full worldwide scramble to minimize the damage, we should have war crimes trials for these bastards -- some sort of climate Nuremberg."

Thankfully we need not look exclusively to these alarmists and opportunists as the only source for information.

Scientists know that the sun's magnetic field shields or deflects cosmic rays away from earth. Since the sun's magnetic field and sunspot activity has been high through much of the 20th century, some scientists have reasoned that decreases in cosmic radiation result in less cloud formation and this, my friends, accounts for a warmer earth...and now two such scientists have provided clear evidence.

Henrik Svensmark and Eigil Friis-Christensen, directors of the Center for Sun-Climate Research at the Danish National Space Center in Copenhagen recently released the results of their experiments based, not in computer models, but in controlled experimentation that demonstred the chemical mechanism of cosmic ray action upon cloud formation.

You'd have to be Anthony Watts (and I'm not) to understand the paper these men wrote: "Experimental Evidence for the role of Ions in Particle Nucleation under Atmospheric Conditions". The title alone makes me break out in a sweat! But, never fear, the scientists have also released two reports for the scientifically challenged: The "SKY
Experiment in Copenhagen", a graphic description (see link below), and an essay, "Influence of Cosmic Rays Upon the Earth's Climate".

And, In case you have the courage to consider opposing views please visit:

There are consequences to rushing headlong in full support of the enviro-zealot's. In addition to the global tax scheme directed specifically at American pockets proposed through Kyoto, there are other more subtle consequences. We have already seen the destruction of curtain industries that, had we taken a more reasonable approach, might have survived to continue to serve the employees and owners of those industries. We have seen laws that put ranchers, farmers, landowners and ordinary citizens in jeopardy and restricted land use. Paul Driessen writing for Canadafreepress in 2004 reported the rise in instances of lawsuits. Tax dollars go to pay the court costs in these suits whether frivolous or not. One example in his article "new global warming lawsuit
industry: Eco-activists add more junk litigation to their anti-civilization arsenal" pitted the Inuit Indians against corporations"

"EarthJustice, Friends of the Earth, the Center for International
Environmental Law and other groups were busy in Buenos Aires, persuading
Arctic Inuit Indians to sue an assortment of corporations for climate
genocide,..."

"genocide"?

Absolute proof of the claim would still raise questions about whether
corporations should bear the brunt of the environmental litigation. I've never heard of an industry that proposed hurting the environment or polluting the planet purposely. This is the villainy of 007 movies and Saturday afternoon matinees not serious scientists and others working to bring products to consumers.

Another front for the environmental zealots is money, cash, your tax dollars and in the process we fail to get a clear picture about global warming! In the article "Climate of Fear Global-warming alarmists intimidate dissenting scientists into silence." Richard Lindzen writes in April 2006:

"...the success of climate alarmism can be counted in the increased federal spending on climate research from a few hundred million dollars pre-1990 to $1.7 billion today. It can also be seen in heightened spending on solar, wind, hydrogen, ethanol and clean coal technologies, as well as on other energy-investment decisions."

"Ambiguous scientific statements about climate are hyped by those with a vested interest in alarm, thus raising the political stakes for policy makers who provide funds for more science research to feed more alarm to increase the political stakes."

"Scientists who dissent from the alarmism have seen their grant funds disappear, their work derided, and themselves libeled as industry stooges, scientific hacks or worse. Consequently, lies about climate change gain credence even when they fly in the face of the science that supposedly is their basis."

Is the warming of the planet an anthropogenic phenomenon? Al Gore and his motley crew believe that yes, man is the culprit. He has said we have only ten years before we reach the point of no return. I have a hard time taking this man seriously...as I said in a recent post, the threat of a new global ice age came and went in the seventies without much fanfare. The difference then was that people weren't being targeted for manipulation, punishment and cash by well meaning do-gooders, media, junk scientists, opportunistic researchers, and cajoling politicians.

MAYOR, 3 COUNCIL MEMBERS VIOLATED RULES

by Jack Lee

BREAKING NEWS: A review of the Chico City Council's Policy and Proceedures indicate the Mayor and three City Council members have acted in violation of the rules and possibly unethically as well.

According to a provision in the rules governing the council agenda, established around 1998, the council should have placed the Global Warming Initiative under "Reports and Communication" before it became an agenda item. Under the Reports and Communication section it would normally have been summarized and then council could decide if they wished to place it on the agenda and this would have required a majority vote. Since the four liberals on the council appear to have joined forces, this may have only been a formality, yet it would have been an important step that might have allowed for more preparation before the issue came before a regular council session.

The basis for this proceedural rule came about when some cities introduced highly controversial issues that a municipality may have had little or no authority over, such as "Impeaching the President" or banning "Capital Punishment" or some such hot button topic that came in the form of a resolution or non-binding initiative, just to make a political statement during an election time.

The policy in question here provided a sort of buffer to keep the city council from being abused by such issues, special interests or even by a few of their own members, for political gain during an election year. The fact this policy wasn't followed and was skipped over tends to ad credence to the speculation that this latest vote on "Global Warming" became an opportunity for political grandstanding. At least two members of the city council members stood to gain some advantage with their base of supporters by pushing this initiative through without the usual debate and research, which is often referred to as "due dilligence." This angered Council members Bertagna, Wahl and Herbert, who wanted more discussion, saying they didn't have enough information to make an informed vote and were concerned this initiative could potentially obligate the city to a number of costly ventures. The two council members who stood to gain by fast tracking this issue were Maureen Kirk and Mayor Scott Gruendl. Not surprisingly, they were aided by the other two liberals on the city council, Holcombe and Schwab, which caused a council divided once again between liberals and conservatives, although the council is supposed to be by definition a non-partisan elected body.

The timing and methodology by the four council members wreaks of manipulation and this brings discredit to the City and this Council. They used this election time opportunity to cozy up to a special interest group and voted in an initiative that has still not been fully explained and leaves some of the other council members wondering what costs may be in store for the city if this initiative is sustained and it's influence fully exploited.

Gruendl, Kirk, Holcombe and Schwab.... you have recklessly violated the rules and it appears you have done so for your own self serving agendas and not for the public good. The people of the City of Chico deserved better and now that this little charade has been exposed, I expect we'll get better.

WORDS OF WISDOM (Chico City Council story)

This is a follow up post by Anthony Watts that is in the comments section on "Suckers or Sellouts". This was so good I didn't want you to miss it. So here you go:

by Anthony Watts

Well if you look at the looming budget deficit for the City of Chico, its not likely there will be much funding available to pull any of this Global Warming initiative off anyway.

The City has started spending more than it takes in with tax revenue. Take the City Park Plaza overrun for example. For the whole City budget, there is a 1.5 million deficit for the budget year 2006/2007, and if revenue projections hold, that deficit may balloon over the next ten years for a net loss of 40-50 million.

Regardless of whether you think this Global Warming initiative idea is a good one or not, the one immutable fact is that deficit spending in local government eventually creates a day of reckoning.

Living beyond your means to fund dreams, eventually causes nightmares, no matter what side of the political bed you wake up on.

We should elect people that get their financial house in order first. Lets hope that whomever gets elected on November 7th doesn't resort to creating new taxes as a way to correct past financial mistakes.

Kirk, Gruendl, Holcombe, Schwab - Suckers or Sellouts?

by Jack Lee

Last night our 4 liberal Chico City Council members rolled over and obligated us to a number of steps demanded in a resolution on Global Warming. This was brought to them by a small group of people that seemed caught up in the hysteria surrounding this subject . It was voted on without the usual due dilligence, much to the chagrin of the 3 sensible council members who simply wanted to know all the details before a vote was taken.

The Council has more than enough on it's plate
without going off on a tangent everytime
some special interest group barks at them!

This whole thing started with Greg Nickel, the controversial mayor from Seattle. Here are a few things you should know about Greg so you'll understand why three councilmembers might have been hesitant on approving anything he was pushing: Nickel is facing ethics violations charges for illegally using city funds and a City Hall production crew to record a video promoting a multi-billion dollar tunnel project that the city doesn’t even need. Nickel cost his citizens million in cost overruns for his pet projects and it's still growing. But, it gets worse, much worse and his spending is ruining the city. Now he's off on this global warming kick, but not before proclaiming his city a "sanctuary for illegals". This has put Seattle at odds with Homeland Security and Immigration, not to mention contributing to a sharp rise in violent crime in the city. Gun crime rose 25 percent last year in Seattle, and it's up another 12 percent this year, thanks in no small measure to Mayor Nickel's policies. This is your poster boy for the movement our Chico City Council signed onto last night. Isn't that just great?

The Council should have never rushed into this, Mayor Gruendl was totally wrong and Councilmen Dan Herbert, Steve Bertagna and Larry Wahl were right when they asked for more information before taking a vote. This was a big committment and there was much to consider, but these four wouldn't take the time for a decent evaluation.

"This has nothing to do with supporting or not supporting it. I had no information to go on tonight," Herbert said. He also noted he felt the 34 people who spoke Tuesday night were done a "disservice" because he wasn't prepared to ask questions and follow along with their testimony. Said the ER article in today's paper.

Gruendl said Wednesday, "I really think it puts the city of Chico on the map as a front leader in embracing the environment." It puts us on the map alright, but not necessarily in a good way. It just tells people how emotion driven the liberals on the city council have become and how quick they are to pander to the far left.

Councilmen Dan Herbert and Steve Bertagna stressed that they incorporate environment-friendly and energy-saving strategies into their personal and professional lives. Herbert also noted that Chico was already pursuing sustainable practices that put to shame the cities listed by supporters as examples of what the resolution achieved.

Gruendl, Andy Holcombe, Ann Schwab and Maureen Kirk didn't let the council do their normal research and leaped into this one way too quick, because they were pandering to the liberal left. I suspect Kirk and Gruendl were hoping to buy some votes with this charade. We deserve better and I hope you remember this come Nov. 8th.

NOTE: Several years ago the City Council decided not to address issues that did not pertain directly to city business, especially in the final month before an election. This was to remove any hint of impropriety because such issues were an open invitation to political grandstanding, especially by persons running for re-election or another elected office. These four, Kirk, Gruendl, Holcombe and Schwab ignored thier own rules for ethics and did it anyway.

October Surprise

by Jack Lee

In yet another poll, sponsored by NBC and the Wall Street Journal, the approval rate by voters for Congress has dropped to 16%. This is the lowest number since this poll began 17 years ago and greatly eclipses the low Democrat poll numbers that swept Republicans into power in 1994. Some conservative news pundents have been hinting of a possible "October Surprise" that could bring about a reversal of fortunes for the beseiged GOP. Some in the know are saying, a surprise that is anything short of the capture of Osama bin Laden, probably won't help much.

Recently Rush Limbaugh said on his radio show, the "Drive By Media" has been predicting a complete GOP rout and they are furious that President Bush discounts their predictions and has offered a prediction of his own, that it's not that bad and the GOP will hold on to both houses. This is driving the media wild with rage, says Rush and he went on to advise us, either Bush and his advisers are totally out of touch and delusional or you have to believe the media is so biased they are just not reporting the facts. That they are distorting the real story because of their own bias in an covert effort to help Democrats win the election. Here's a poll link or read this next story on the same poll....

"WASHINGTON -- With just 19 days until the midterm elections, a new poll shows both President Bush and his party in worse shape among voters than Democrats were in the October before they lost control of Capitol Hill a dozen years ago.

Support for the Republican-led Congress has eroded to its lowest point since the party's watershed 1994 victory that brought it House and Senate majorities.

A new Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll illustrates the political toll Republicans are paying for rising discontent over the Iraq war, as well as a spate of scandals including the disclosure that Republican House leaders knew of inappropriate emails to House pages from Florida Rep. Mark Foley, who resigned late last month. Voters' approval of Congress has fallen to 16% from 20% since early September, while their disapproval has risen to 75% from 65%.

That 16% rating statistically matches Congress's lowest point in the 17 years the Journal and NBC have polled, set in April 1992 when Democrats were in control and suffering from a scandal involving lawmakers' overdrafts from the House bank. The latest results set other records for the Journal/NBC surveys, all ominous for Republicans -- "a harbinger," in the words of Journal/NBC pollster Peter Hart, "of what's ahead for the incumbent party. It's as simple as that."

Stingray Stabs Another Man Near Heart

MIAMI - A leaping stingray stabbed an 81-year-old Florida boater in the chest, authorities said on Wednesday, leaving its poisonous stinger lodged close to his heart in an incident recalling the one that killed Australian TV naturalist Steve Irwin last month.

Fire Department officials in Lighthouse Point, about 30 miles (48 km) north of Miami, said James Bertakis was in a small recreational boat with two grandchildren on Tuesday when the spotted eagle ray leaped aboard and struck him.

“It’s just a real freak thing, Lt. Mike Sullivan told Reuters, saying the incident occurred on Florida’s Intercoastal Waterway, where stingrays are rarely seen leaping in the air.

BORDER FENCE UPDATE

by Jack Lee

The Washington Post article below is not as bad for the GOP as it may have been intended to be. The border fence is being built (thats good) and they are trying to do it smarter using the virtual fence concept, (thats good too). I never really supported that it be a completely solid structure anyway, as a solid fence can be easily breeched while giving some of us a false sense that it's more secure than it really is. Some of it has to be high tech using detection devices instead of fencing. The downside is, Congress wants some of the immigration issues worked out first, which could lead to considerably delay. So keep all that in mind when you read the latest on the border fence construction:

"No sooner did Congress authorize construction of a 700-mile fence on the U.S.-Mexico border last week than lawmakers rushed to approve separate legislation that ensures it will never be built, at least not as advertised, according to Republican lawmakers and immigration experts. GOP leaders have singled out the fence as one of the primary accomplishments of the recently completed session. Many lawmakers plan to highlight their $1.2 billion down payment on its construction as they campaign in the weeks before the midterm elections.

But, shortly before recessing late Friday, the House and Senate gave the Bush administration leeway to distribute the money to a combination of projects -- not just the physical barrier along the southern border. The funds may also be spent on roads, technology and "tactical infrastructure" to support the Department of Homeland Security's preferred option of a "virtual fence."

What's more, in a late-night concession to win over wavering Republicans, GOP congressional leaders pledged in writing that Native American tribes, members of Congress, governors and local leaders would get a say in "the exact placement" of any structure, and that Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff would have the flexibility to use alternatives "when fencing is ineffective or impractical."

The loopholes leave the Bush administration with authority to decide where, when and how long a fence will be built, except for small stretches east of San Diego and in western Arizona. Homeland Security officials have proposed a fence half as long, lawmakers said.

"It's one thing to authorize. It's another thing to actually appropriate the money and do it," said HYPERLINK "http://projects.washingtonpost.com/congress/members/c001056/"Sen. John Cornyn (R-Tex.). The fine-print distinction between what Congress says it will do and what it actually pays for is a time-honored result of the checks and balances between lawmakers who oversee agencies and those who hold their purse strings.

Political calculations In this case, it also reflects political calculations by GOP strategists that voters do not mind the details, and that key players -- including the administration, local leaders and the Mexican government -- oppose a fence-only approach, analysts said.

President Bush signed the $34.8 billion homeland security budget bill Wednesday in Scottsdale, Ariz., without referring to the 700-mile barrier. Instead, he highlighted the $1.2 billion that Congress provided for an unspecified blend of fencing, vehicle barriers, lighting and technology such as ground-based radar, cameras and sensors.

"That's what the people of this country want," the president said. "They want to know that we're modernizing the border so we can better secure the border."

Bush and Chertoff have said repeatedly that enforcement alone will not work and that they want limited dollars spent elsewhere, such as on a temporary-worker program to ease pressure on the border. At an estimated $3 million to $10 million per mile, the double-layered barrier will cost considerably more than $1.2 billion.

HYPERLINK "http://projects.washingtonpost.com/congress/members/g000445/"Judd Gregg (R-N.H.), who chairs the Senate subcommittee that funds the Department of Homeland Security, said that before the legislation was approved, the department had planned to build 320 miles of fencing, secure 500 miles of hard-to-traverse areas by blocking roads and monitor electronically the rest of the 2,000-mile-long southern frontier.

"I think there'll be fencing where the department feels that it makes sense," Gregg said, estimating that "at least 300 to 400 miles" will be built.

Congress withheld $950 million of the $1.2 billion, pending a breakdown by Chertoff of how he plans to spend the money. It is due in early December, after the midterm elections.

'Virtual fence'
Asked whether Homeland Security would build 700 miles of fence, department spokesman Russ Knocke would not say. Instead, he noted that department leaders announced last month that they will spend $67 million to test a remote-sensing "virtual fence" concept on a 28-mile, high-traffic stretch of border south of Tucson over eight months, and then adjust their plans.

"We plan to build a little and test a little. . . . Stay tuned," Knocke said. "We're optimistic that Congress is going to provide the department with flexibility."

The split between GOP leaders hungry for a sound-bite-friendly accomplishment targeting immigration and others who support a more comprehensive approach also means that the fence bill will be watered down when lawmakers return for a lame-duck session in November, according to congressional aides and lobbyists.

The office of HYPERLINK "http://projects.washingtonpost.com/congress/members/h001016/"Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Tex.) yesterday released a letter from House Speaker J. HYPERLINK "http://projects.washingtonpost.com/congress/members/h000323/"Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.) and Senate Majority Leader HYPERLINK "http://projects.washingtonpost.com/congress/members/f000439/"Bill Frist (R-Tenn.) promising to ensure that Chertoff has discretion over whether to build a fence or choose other options. Homeland Security officials must also consult with U.S., state and local representatives on where structures are placed.

The letter was inserted in the Congressional Record on Friday night because Congress ran out of time to reach a final deal, aides said.

"State and local officials in California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas should not be excluded from decisions about how to best protect our borders with their varying topography, population and geography," Hutchison said in a statement added to the record.

Congress also hedged on when a fence would be completed. The law mandating it said Homeland Security officials should gain "operational control" of the border in 18 months. But the law funding it envisions five years. Chertoff has set a goal of two to three years, but only after completion of an immigration overhaul.

Carrots, Eggs or Coffee, which one are you?

Submitted by TinManB:

A young woman went to her mother and told her about her life and how things were so hard for her. She did not know how she was going to make it and wanted to give up. She was tired of fighting and struggling. It seemed as one problem was solved, a new one arose. So, her mother took her to the kitchen, she filled three pots with water and placed each on a high fire. Soon the pots came to boil. In the first she placed carrots, in the second she...

placed eggs, and in the last she placed ground coffee beans. She let them sit and boil, without saying a word.
In about twenty minutes she turned off the burners.

She fished the carrots out and placed them in a bowl. She pulled the eggs out and placed them in a bowl. Then she ladled the coffee out and placed it in a bowl. Turning to her daughter she asked "Tell me, what do you see?" "Carrots, eggs, and coffee," she replied. Her mother brought her closer and asked her to feel the carrots. She did and noted that they were soft. The mother then asked the daughter to take an egg and break it. After pulling off the shell, she observed the hard-boiled egg. Finally, the mother asked the daughter to sip the coffee. The daughter smiled as she tasted its rich aroma. The daughter then asked "What does it mean, mother?" Her mother explained that each of these objects had faced the same adversity: boiling water. Each reacted differently. The carrot went in strong, hard, and unrelenting. However, after being subjected to the boiling water, it softened and became weak. The egg had been fragile. Its thin outer shell had protected its liquid interior, but after sitting through the boiling water, its inside became hardened.

The ground coffee beans were unique, however. After they were in the boiling water, they had changed the water. "Which are you?" she asked her daughter. "When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond? Are you a carrot, an egg or a coffee bean?" Which am I? Am I the carrot that seems strong, but with pain and adversity do I wilt and become soft and lose my strength? Am I the egg that starts with a malleable heart, but changes with the heat? Did I have a fluid spirit, but after a death, a breakup, a financial hardship or some other trial, have I become hardened and stiff? Does my shell look the same, but on the inside am I bitter and tough with a stiff spirit and hardened heart? Or am I like the coffee bean? The bean actually changes the hot water, the very circumstance that brings the pain. When the water gets hot, it releases the fragrance and flavor. If you are like the bean, when things are at their worst, you get better and change the situation around you.

When the hour is the darkest and trials are their greatest, do you elevate yourself to another level? How do you handle adversity? Are you a carrot, an egg or a coffee bean? The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the most of everything that comes along their way. The brightest future will always be based on a forgotten past; you can't go forward in life until you let go of your past failures and heartaches.

Ah, to achieve the status of coffee!

Three Things to Ponder-for the Common Good

by Tina Grazier

1. James Toranto reports a "new" liberal democrat slogan: "common good"

"It's a core value that we think organizes the entire political agenda for progressives... With the rise of materialism, greed and corruption in American society, people want a return to a better sense of community--sort of a shared sacrifice, a return to the ethic of service and duty." John Halpin, senior fellow at the Center for American Progress.

Rise of materialism? Only during republican terms of course! And with these guys it's always about greed...but so many of them have lots and lots of money...so maybe it's really about their GUILT. Why should we let them decide how we should live and what to do with our money? Guilt is a lousy reason to make law...and a lousier reason to think they really care about the common good. And a rise in corruption? They wrote the book ...decades ago...this high road stuff doesn't quite fit in the progressive bag of tricks.

2. National Review's "The Week" reveals a new high in higher education:

"Washington State University now has a Chief Diversity Officer with a full time staff of 55 and a $3 million annual budget"

...so that's where the education dollars go, right down a diversity hole pretending to be for the common good!

3. Phyllis Schlafly points out that sometimes things take patience, commitment, time and...talk about a strong will:

"With hindsight, we can now see that the Hungarian Revolution of 1956 started the unraveling of Soviet communism that finally came to pass in 1991."

Good thing they didn't loose heart, go hide in the corner...or cut and run!!! Imagine democracy in the Middle East, as long as you're in to "imagining" for the common good!

U.S. Confirms N.K. Nuclear Test

WASHINGTON — The Bush administration confirmed on Monday for the first time that North Korea conducted an underground nuclear test last week. The office of National Intelligence Director John Negroponte said radioactive

materials found in air samples confirmed the test.
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice expressed concern that North Korea might be planning a second test. "We're watching it," she told reporters. "I hope they would not take such a provocative act."

In a statement, Negroponte's office said the blast was small by standards of nuclear tests; less than 1 kiloton. Each kiloton is equal to the force produced by 1,000 tons of TNT. The bomb the United States dropped on Hiroshima was 15 kilotons.

The confirmation came as Rice prepared to visit Japan, South Korea and China this week to try to shore up efforts by Asian allies to punish North Korea.

A United Nations Security Council resolution passed Saturday calls for nations to prevent North Korea from buying or selling specified weapons and technology. The measure also bans some luxury goods from North Korea and freezes funds outside the country that are associated with weapons programs.

North Korea's Tactical Ability

This came from the comments section by poster Nick F., I believe his comments give a uniquely qualfied perspective to this subject. So, here you go:

"It has been interesting to see all the reporting, speculation, predictions etc. etc. surrounding the new developments concerning North Korean capabilities and intentions. My first inclination is to just redirect everyone back to Jacks post if you want a comprehensive analysis, but since I can't seem to keep from giving my opinion, I've decided to write about what I have observed and experienced.

I noticed the other day, that as the news was reporting about the latest developments concerning NK's nuclear weapons development; they mentioned that NK started their nuclear weapons program in 2002. The only way a professional journalism outlet could air something that absurd, was if it was calculated. They certainly didn't get that figure from any reputable government agency, which has been well aware of North Korean nuclear weapons program dating back to the beginning of the second term of the Clinton Administration. Of course reporting facts about North Koreas development of WMD would be more harmful to Clintons legacy rather than GW's administration, and why would the media let the facts get in the way of a good story.

So North Korea has Nuclear weapons...maybe. This is certainly a security concern for the United States, but it is a much larger concern for South Korea and Japan. So for those of you who are wondering why we haven't dedicated more time and attention to North Korea, there is part of your answer.

North Korea is run by a demagogue to be sure. I am not convinced however, that the man is insane. North Korea only produces about 65-70% of the food stuffs it requires to feed its population. Extorting money from the west and more closely from westernized Asian markets like their rich neighbors to the south and east has become their economic strategy of choice. In addition to the benefits that North Korea enjoys from blackmailing their neighbors, China enjoys the prestige they receive by constantly intervening on behalf of their miserable little lap dog. Isn't it funny how every time North Korea decides to cause trouble for the region, the two chief beneficiaries are always South Korea in the from of economic concessions, and China in the way of political concessions.

The potential for North Korea to hand off nuclear weapons to terrorists is far more limited and suspect than say Iran. So I for one believe their testing to be centered around their desire to acquire concessions. And why shouldn't they expect them? Clinton was more than happy to give into their demands in the 90's. And after being shown up by a tin pot dictator he was hailed by this countries media as some sort of diplomatic wiz. Forget the fact that North Korea reneged on the deal before the ink was wet on the contract. In true Neville Chamberlain fashion we appeased a militant dictator, then low and behold he didn't live up to his end of the bargain. We remember Chamberlain as a sub standard politician. I wonder how this misstep by the Clinton administration will eventually be remembered by historians.

Jack made good comparisons of North Korea and South Korean equipment. Now admittedly, I havent ever worked with the North Korean Army, but I have had an opportunity to train with elements of the South Korean military. In addition to this I have had a chance to see much of the South Korean portion of the peninsula. I have also done a bit of research of each military, their capabilities, and potential strategic goals of a North Korean invasion.

Based on these considerations it is my opinion that the North simply doesn't stand a chance against the South with, or without US assistance in a prolonged military action. Even with the benefit of nuclear weapons and the potential devastation they could wrought on the south Korean population, North Korea simply does not, in and of itself posses the economy, or the allies to fight the type of war that would be necessary to defeat the south Korean military and subdue her population.

The Korean peninsula illustrates probably better than any other world example the superiority of free enterprise and democratic government with the rule of law over a centrally planned, despotism. Because of the economic differences South Korea posses the ability to replace losses far faster and efficiently than the North could. I wouldn't want to be any where near the opening barrage of a North Korean Invasion, but I do not believe they would even be able to take Seoul. North Korean Supply lines would come under constant attack and they simply would not be able to adequately provide for the massive army they would undoubtedly send over the border.

Even the idea of North Korea actually utilizing nuclear weapons to achieve this goal is somewhat in question. While their is little doubt that North Korea would use nuclear weapons as a last ditch effort to protect the collapse of the regime, it is far less certain that they would use such a weapon to devastate the economic center they wish to possess.

I'd be interested in hearing other points.

Maybe Libby can flip out again, that was amusing. Once again she shows a careful combination of ignorance tempered by an extreme arrogance, which suggests that the research she has conducted is comprised of flipping through the political section of Rolling Stone Magazine."

AS THEN-EVEN NOW

by Tina Grazier

“Let us recollect, that peace or war, will not always be left to our options. . .To judge from the history of mankind, we shall be compelled to conclude, that the fiery and destructive passions of war, reign in the human breast, with much more powerful sway, than the mild and beneficial sentiments of peace; and, that to model our political systems upon speculations of lasting tranquility, is to calculate on the weaker springs of the human character. Alexander Hamilton

“Americans and other Westerners who want their families to enjoy the blessings of life in a free society should understand that the life we've led since 1945 in the Western world is very rare in human history. Our children are unlikely to enjoy anything so placid, and may well spend their adult years in an ugly and savage world unless we decide that who and what we are is worth defending. Mark Steyn from his new book, America Alone: The End of the World as We Know It

We did not ask for this war. The battle against terrorists is not one “left to our options. And, indeed failure to engage in and win this war will leave our children “an ugly and savage world. I don’t know how it is for you but it was never my plan to spend my “senior years worrying about “wars and rumors of wars. There’s no sense, however, in trying to hide from the reality before us. Some can do little more than offer our best hopes and wishes to our troops, our government and all those around the world who have joined with us in our desire to defend the desire to live in peace, neighbor to neighbor. Let us please at least be willing to support the effort, we can do that much.

“…global struggle against terrorism…will last a generation and more. But this I believe passionately: We will not win until we shake ourselves free of the wretched capitulation to the propaganda of the enemy-that somehow we are the ones responsible…If we retreat now, hand Iraq over to al Qaeda and the Taliban, we won’t be safer; we will be committing a craven act of surrender that will put our future security in the deepest peril PM Tony Blair

Time does not alter or change the propensities of men and we cannot always choose our circumstances. But we can choose who will take the lead for us in this fight. The coming elections are important. Since the beginning of this war the democrats have been wishy-washy on the one hand and wobbly on the other. The choice is clear. As it was in Hamilton’s time, so it is now. We must “calculate on the weaker springs of human nature. We must accept the reality of the terrorists intent and fortify as best we can by choosing the stronger candidates.

Democracy in Libya-Imagine That

by Tina Grazier

On May 15th of this year the State Department announced that the US would restore full diplomatic relations with Libya following full cooperation by Muamar Quadaffi in disclosing and dismantling his WMD programs. The incredible possibility of a democratic Libya and the example it would set for the region and in the world has gone relatively unnoticed by the press. There has been more good news out of Libya in past weeks but this too has not merited a mention. Perhaps the news is too encouraging to imagine, or as Dr. Wheeler said, "So far, there has not been a single word of this in the Western press. Probably because the democra-tization of a radical Islamic state would be seen as a triumph for George Bush."

On August 29th Mohammed Buisier arrived by plane in Benghazi Libya. He was greeted with great fanfare and escorted to his hotel where he formally called for the peaceful removal of Libya's totalitarian form of government to be replaced with democracy. Mr. Buisier, a former political prisoner and exiled dissident, has been advocating for
democracy in Libya for years. His presence was requested by Qadaffi himself. He came to speak at a conference, Transformation from Revolution to State, hosted by Qadaffi's son, Saif al-Islam. Al-Islam has studied at the London School of Economics and at the University of Vienna where he discovered and embraced the teachings of Ludvick von
Mises and Friedrich Hayek. Saif al-Islam has been quoted as calling for freedom in Libya, freedom of speech, press, religion and assembly.

This is amazing news. Free countries prosper and, at least so far, do not make war on one another. Now, if people in the US and around the world would develop a little backbone and get on board with the "out of the box" idea that freedom works for everyone maybe we'd begin to see a domino effect in the region. If you're one of those who pasted that "imagine" bumper sticker on your car do us all a favor...try to imagine this...democracy in the Middle East!

Refuting 650,000 Deaths-Good Work on the Blogs

by Tina Grazier

This is an excellent post found at the blog "Flares Into Darkness":

Flawed methodology, flawed results. Worst of the Lancet.

"I feel quite confident that anyone questioning the number of violent deaths reported in the recent Lancet article Mortality after the 2003 invasion of Iraq: a cross-sectional cluster sample survey will be said by some (those for whom a bigger number is better, perhaps?) to be merely partisan. Pointing out to these people that Les Roberts, who "instigated the study and assisted with the analysis and interpretation of the data and the writing of the manuscript" is blatantly partisan himself, publicly says that he is against the war, and campaigned as a Democrat for a seat in the House of Representatives before pulling out in May of this year, is unlikely to get past that."

Read the article here

...or, if that ones too long and complicated just think logically as DontFeedTheTrolls, a poster on Newsbusters did:

"The numbers in that study are 100% FALSE. Do the math. 3 (oh, what the heck, lets be generous) 4 years equals (4x365=1460). 650,000 divided by 1460 equals 445. That would be a rough figure of 445 deaths per day, average. That would mean some days with the death toll above 500! When have you ever seen a death toll (the press loves those) anywhere near that number per day? You haven't and you won't. This is just another lie foisted upon those who don't dig a little deeper."

NO TRUER WORDS....

Excerpted from a post by Tina....

"What I believe is that we can't expect them (politicians) to rise above it all as long as the public generally is tolerant and accepting of bad behavior. People who are asking that we raise standards of behavior in our society are mistakenly accused of being purely moralistic. On a personal level this is probably true but on a societal level the demands have more to do with creating a structure that supports people in making positive decisions for their lives. It has to do with creating a support structure that makes it possible for even the most humble citizen to reach a level of success that is higher than he ever dreamed. It's about creating a support structure that makes it possible for the very gifted among us to make major contributions in science and art and yes, even in public service. It's about creating an environment that rewards good behavior and achievment and punishes bad such that the choice to do bad is repugnant to the individual.

We the people have failed to uphold high standards. We the people have given in to prurient interests and excused or even celebrated decadence. We have "played" selfishly while our children were left to raise themselves. We have failed to take an interest in their formal education and tolerated the decline in basic education in favor of feel

good education. We have abandoned almost completely the notion of respecting elders and persons of authority. Manners have gone out the window.

If we can't find good people to represent us then we need look no further than our own mirrors for the reason. Some have contributed in big ways others in only small ways and...we are all responsible.

Which is why I keep saying it isn't the people in politics I support. I support the principles and goals of my party. When our representatives let us down we should deal with them swiftly and move on. Principles and goals require a long term commitment...some would say never ending!

The elections coming up are very important. The "art" of politics will get dirtier as we get closer to voting day. We must train ourselves to focus on issues and support those people who best represent us with regard to those issues. Terrorism/borders, taxes/economy, and Supreme Court appointments are three huge issues, The two parties have very different ideas about all three and the direction they promise to take us will affect our lives more than ever before. We must choose wisely now, it will matter for decades to come.

We will always have an opportunity to expose and remove those who break the law or comport themselves badly. We will not easily change the direction of the court as three more judges need replacing in the next few years. Raised taxes will kill the economy within six to ten years...yes it takes time to turn an economy in either direction. The war effort, which could take decades, requires a commited approach. "

A Culture of Corruption

by Jack Lee

While democrats point out Bush's low voter approval numbers, down to a mere 34%, congress rates even lower at a pathetic 30%. What's worse is, nearly 75% of those polled felt members of Congress see themselves above the law. This looks like it's a pox upon BOTH their houses and that isn't good for America.

Thanks mainly to Congressman Foley, "Fewer Republicans, though, now say they are enthusiastic about voting in

November, and fewer expect their party to win the most seats this year. Overall, 59 percent of voters, including 41 percent of Republicans, expect the Democrats to pick up seats in the House in November." Said CBS. Obviously the two most recent Congressional scandals have really hurt the GOP. However, in the overall number of corruption scandals, the Democratic Party is the clear winner. They have no right to preach to the GOP about morals, that privilage must now fall to the voters and if they are smart, they will start voting the bums out of office, right and left!

It pains me to even bring this stuff up, but it's for the good of the country that we all see the big picture when it comes to corruption, not just what the democrats push for political gains. Remember Congressman William Jefferson and the money in the freezer? How about Gary Studds (Congressional Page incident), Barney Frank (prostitution incident) or how about New Jersey Gov. James. E. McGreevey...he hired a $100,000 a year male employee just for sex. These are all democrats and there are tons more. Want to refresh your memory about all the democratic scandals in the past few decades so you have some sense of balance while considering the recent GOP scandals? Check out this site.

It's been suggested that the smartest thing we could do is just vote em all out and start over. I can't find a lot of fault with that either...in fact it becomes more appealing the closer we get to election time.

American's Don't Like Liberal Talk Radio?

by Jack Lee

The left-wing's answer to popular right leaning talk shows, Air America Radio, just filed for Chapter 11, thus proving what we knew all along: Bashing our country, sucking up to our enemies and preaching doom and gloom, somehow doesn't resonate well with most Americans. Now, who wouldda guess that one???

Most people who have tuned in to talk radio in the past 30 years are better informed and more involved in the democratic process than those who don't, that's a given. So, when Air America arrived on the scene two years ago to penetrate this huge market, they had to lure away fans from the top 10 talk shows. Their message didn't cut it. True to form they are still in denial, they say their trouble doesn't come from their message. It's right-wing radio station managers, it's a conspiracy by fatcat corporations, it's GOP operatives, it's anything else, .....but it can't be OUR LEFTIST MESSAGE!

Air America claimed they would be welcomed by a public desperate to escape all the rightwing radio shows that have been enjoying huge ratings. They told their original sponsors that Air America was on a fast track and growing exponentially, they were going to sweep over the country to chagrin of people like Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly and Sean Hannady. Instead, bill collectors are threatening to knock them off the air. They've been in turmoil almost since the beginning and they went through several CEO's to no avail and fought off a host of financial problems until Friday, when it all came crashing down.

What happened to all those listeners? Where are all those sponsors?

It was just one month ago that spokesman Al Franken, denied Air America was close to filing bankruptcy. Then in a recent AP story, "On Friday, Air America spokeswoman Jaime Horn told The Associated Press that the filing became necessary only recently after negotiations with a creditor from the company's early days broke down." Air America will remain on the air while they beg for the type of relief that kept those non-competitive communist companies going in the old USSR.

We may not win...

This comment was worth page 1. Jack

This is from Tina, who replied to this question: ""How do we win when the left encourages the terrorists by running down our government and calling our President the worlds biggest terrorist?"

We may not win...we may not survive...that's a given when people are being raised to believe that killing other people honors them and their families and provides a stairway to heaven where 40 virgins await the testosterone overload that is a young man's brainl! That's a given when Americans are cavalier in their attitudes and forget that in America an election happens and the winner becomes the LEADER...we have asked him to take

the responsibility and make the decisions, particularly in times of war. There are times for discussion and debate and contest...this isn't one of them...but they don't care.

But to answer your question you are doing exactly what one person can do when we find ourselves in these circumstances. Continue to inform yourself and expose and defeat the enemies of freedom and decency...wherever they may be.

I keep wondering how differently this war would have gone if liberals around the world had either gagged themselves or taken a firm and absolute stand against terrorists and supporters of terrorism. The war effort turned not because we got bogged down but because the people went wobbly...the people are the power to be feared in an effort because of their will. The troops are empowered to do the hard work because of the support (power) behind them. Liberals just don't get that that's how
