It's Nuts Out There!

by Jack Lee

My daughter and I made a vain attempt to do some last minute shopping today. It was nuts, absolutely nuts. The roads were jammed, parking was non-existent, long lines at the checkout, people, people everywhere. Anecdotally speaking, if this is a symptom of our economy, then we must be rolling in dough! I can't recall seeing more shoppers in Chico...period. It was a day of spending madness, but we gave up early because we couldn't handled the horrendous traffic. So, we're obliged to go back tomorrow, but we're starting out at 8 a.m., hoping for less traffic!

Just think, if some star hadn't gone supernova 2000+ years ago we might not be going through this madness on a yearly basis.

Whitman the Great! I see, reflected in yesterday's ER, the traffic jam on Whitman Ave. I also see where the plan for Costco's expansion was approved. The question is: who has been assigned to plan for the traffic jams that can be anticipated as the vacant lots on Whiteman become occupied?

Whitman is a nightmare. I can't imagine what it would be like if those vacant lots were turned into more shopping and parking. The streets in to and out of this area can't even handle the 5 p.m. traffic without backing up for blocks.

We beat the rush, some stores were open at 6 a.m. and we were done by 7 a.m. Yahoo, we're done!
