Eighty-two percent of last year's fourth-graders couldn't read. This year, 73 percent of that same group are reading proficiently. "It should be obvious why a teacher would want to go into a needy school," says Betsy Rogers, National Teacher of the Year in 2003. "I don't see this as being a big sacrifice or a big thing. God bless the dedicated teachers! I had one like this in second grade...they will not take "can't" for a reason or excuse...and their students learn. Bravo!!
