President’s Day Quiz

Other than the obvious, what do the following Presidents of the United States all have in common?

William Henry Harrison (1840), Abraham Lincoln (1860), James Garfield (1880), William McKinley (1900), Warren G. Harding (1920), Franklin D. Roosevelt (1940), John F. Kennedy (1960).

They are all included in the 20 year pattern called Tecumseh’s Curse. Each was elected or re-elected in a year evenly divisible by twenty and each died while in office. Zachary Taylor died of Cholera while in office in 1850 but was elected in 1848 making him ineligible for this exclusive “club”. Ronald Reagan, elected in 1980, broke the curse when he survived the assination attempt on his life. George W Bush, elected in 2000, survived when a grenade was tossed at him.
