Angry Reader Says, "don't blame illegals!"
Johanan Juarez responds to Tina...
"They are creating a big problem, because they sneak into America and that means they
are making a mockery of orderly, controlled, immigration that has served us well for 200 hundred years." whoa! are you still talking about the u.s.? controlled and orderly? maybe in the past 100 years. but before that it was wide open to ANYONE, and things turned out ok. you really think all europeans came here legally? if you do, you're in denial.
the u.s. has prospered precisely because it has accepted immigrants from ALL OVER THE WORLD. immigrants start from scratch and that is why they have always worked harder than native born americans. so why do you suggest that illegal immigrants from mexico are the exception?
you also insist that illegal immigrants in particular are to blame for closed hospitals across the coutnry. how does anyone know this, if it is expressly forbiden for hospital staff to ask any questions about a person's immigrant status? it is well known that UNINSURED patients are to blame for the financial situation of our hospitals. but how that blame gets shifted to illegals is beyond me and, i suspect, beyond you, too. so why propagate an idea as fact when its origin is unknown and, more importantly, unproven?

It would be helpful if I knew the post from which this quote was taken. If these are indeed my words, I will take full responsibility for them. Frankly I don't believe they are. However, they could be a reference from another source so I will respond as if I had said them.
I don't personally hold the position that people who come to this country, even ILLEGALLY, are solely to blame for the problems we are experiencing. I do think the law should be respected and enforced as a service to all.
America has made some serious errors of policy that have contributed to our woes. The "kindness" we show people in the form of free handouts and giveaway programs has acted like a magnet. This has made the laws that were designed to make immigration workable of little effect. They are difficult to enforce. The flow of people is too great for authorities and services to handle.
Hospitals are hard pressed to do an adequate job and are collapsing under the weight of overburdened emergency rooms and financial losses. Schools are in crisis attempting to keep high standards in classrooms filled with students who only speak their native language. I know of one teacher, a reading teacher, who has been challenged to try to do her job well for kids speaking 20-30 different languages. This means American students are not getting the education their parents wish for them and pay taxes to ensure. Added crimminal activity has placed a dangerous burden on law enforcement and contributed greatly to overcrowding in our prisons.
I have articulated these problems inadequately due to the limited space of the blog and my own limited understanding, but all of this and more makes the situation difficult and unmanageable. In our fervor to be welcoming and kind we have created a situation that fails to serve the interests of the citizens of the United States AND the LEGAL immigrants that work hard and sacrifice to come here.
Having said that, I have no desire to hold harmless those people who willfully break our laws and continue to flaunt our system. Something must be done so that people work within our laws to come here. Our system must provide measures of control over the numbers coming in so that service organizations are not overburdened. We need a system thatsupports and assists legal immigrants in assimilating and becoming productive citizens. We need a way to keep criminals out and one that supports law enforcement. We need a program that allows non-citizens workers to work here and then to go back home, legally; one that supports both worker and employer.
Finally, some of my family members were immigrants and they sacrificed and worked hard to become Americans. They desperately wanted to be Americans; they wanted the freedom and the opportunity and they respected the laws that make these things possible. I have Mexican and Cambodian immigrant friends...I have no problems with race or creed.
If you care about America, you will focus on the issues that are important to the survival of this land of opportunity. Without the rule of law it will collapse.
I hope this answers your questions.
