Denying Iraqi Students the Chance of Freedom

by Tina Grazier

Recent comments in the democrat leadership leave the impression that Iraq is a lost cause. Democrat activists scream for peace and degrade our military with protests and accusations of brutality while demanding withdrawal from Iraq. The media’s coverage of the war paints a mostly negative picture and never conveys the idea that anyone in Iraq is living a normal life. It therefore might surprise some of our readers to know what students at a university in Baghdad were up to last week following the VA Tech incident:

Iraqi Students Express Solidarity with American Students

"We want to let the whole world know that we do not support terrorism anywhere," said Yassir Nazar, head of the student union at Baghdad Technology University, who organized the hanging of the banner near the campus gate. *** It reads, "We, the students of Technology University, denounce the attack at Virginia Tech. We extend our condolences to the families of the victims who faced a situation as bad as Iraq's universities do. The sanctity of campuses must be protected around the world."

"We have lost many friends and professors," said Nazar. "But in spite of our wounds, we want to show our solidarity with the students of Virginia Tech who are our brothers in humanity and in pursuing knowledge."

Students attending school…in Iraq…expressing solidarity with American students…imagine that. Our brave fighting forces are doing all they can to ensure those students have a chance for freedom.

Meanwhile back in the states on CNN Senator Harry Reid dismisses General Petraeus' opinion in a Q & A:

BASH: You talked several times about General Petraeus. You know that he is here in town. He was at the White House today, sitting with the president in the Oval Office and the president said that he wants to make it clear that Washington should not be telling him, General Petraeus, a commander on the ground in Iraq, what to do, particularly, the president was talking about Democrats in Congress. *** He also said that General Petraeus is going to come to the Hill and make it clear to you that there is progress going on in Iraq, that the so-called surge is working. Will you believe him when he says that?

REID: No, I don't believe him, because it's not happening.

Notice that Bash (what a moniker for a thinly veiled "bashing" reporter) referred to it as the “so-called surge”…let’s be kind though, and remember, they do these things not to be mean or take sides but because they care so much. In the village it takes to raise a child, always...always, it's “for the children”.

As for Harry…he’s more determined than ever to bring defeat to GWB and the pubbies. He has dug in his little heels and that's that! If successful he will of course, in the same stroke, also bring defeat to Iraqi students but, hey…they’re young, they’ll get over it. Right Harry?

Can you even begin to imagine what it must be like to be a college student in Iraq? I think the part about these students feeling solidarity with our students in VA was great and in one small way it confirms once again, these are people worth saving from the radicals.
