Compiled by Jack Lee
* RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP) -- Saudi officials say a terror plot they've broken up was on the verge of being carried out. Saudi police say they've arrested 172 Islamic militants in an alleged plot to carry out suicide attacks against "public figures, oil facilities" and "military zones."
* A top Al-Qaeda commander who led operations in Afghanistan and plotted the assassination of Pakistan's President Pervez Musharraf has been taken into US custody, a Pentagon spokesman said Friday. Abd al Hadi al-Iraqi, who was taken to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba within the past week, was intercepted as he was trying to reach Iraq to manage Al-Qaeda operations and possibly plot attacks against western targets outside Iraq, Pentagon spokesman Bryan Whitman said.
* Diabetes Breakthough: Scientists have discovered three new genes linked to diabetes - a breakthrough which they say brings them a step closer to understanding what causes the disease.
* Former CIA Director writes "At the Center of the Storm", a critical book on Bush - Cheney. Ex-CIA director assails Cheney's role on Iraq George Tenet charges that some in the administration pushed the country into war without serious debate. "George Tenet, the former CIA director, has lashed out against Vice President Dick Cheney and other Bush administration officials in a new book, saying they pushed the country to war in Iraq without ever conducting a "serious debate" about whether Saddam Hussein posed an imminent threat to the United States. Tenet admits that he made his famous "slam dunk" remark about the evidence that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction. But he argues that the quote was taken out of context and that it had little effect on President Bush's decision to go to war. He also makes clear his bitter view that the administration made him a scapegoat for the Iraq war." NY Times.

Well the bottom line is that there is some truth to what Tenet is saying. For instance, Bush should have immediately gotten rid of that Clinton hold over. After all, it was Clinton that didn't want the CIA dealing with "unsavory characters."
I know libs think they should just be able to sprinkle some money on the problem and POOF mistake corrected; but as these relationships take years to build, and only minutes to destroy, I think getting rid of any and all Clinton appointees in the intelligence community would be a good move.

Absolutely!
Here's a fun quote from an Investors Business Daily article, “Tenet's Foul Shot”:
Other parts of Tenet's book are worth far more attention:
Tenet's bewilderment about why al-Qaida hasn't again attacked the U.S. homeland, for instance, provokes an obvious response: Maybe the terrorist group has been foiled by the Patriot Act.
