This is great news!!
I read it in the Mirror UK:
BULLFROGS' 'CURE' FOR SUPERBUG
AMERICAN bullfrogs could hold the key to eliminating the MRSA superbug from hospital wards, scientists said yesterday. Researchers have found that a protein called ranalexin secreted by one species has a "very, very, potent" effect on combating the virus when combined with an enzyme.
The team from St Andrews University spent 18 months on the study. They have applied for a grant to continue their research and hope drug companies may one day market the treatment. Microbiologist Dr Peter Coote, who led the study, said: "If it works, then it could be a very good way of preventing MRSA."
The superbug is resistant to penicillin. It is a major cause of hospital infection and is responsible for around 2,000 deaths in Britain every year.
