Why does the game of golf have 18 holes? Why not 16 or 20? For the answer click below.
During a membership meeting of St. Andrews in Scotland in 1858 a senior member pointed out that a bottle of Scotch whiskey held exactly 18 shots and that players ought to limit consumption to 1 shot per hole. It seems only sensible that when the Scotch ran out that the round of golf ought to be over. And now you know! Although not stated I presume that the Scotch was shared among 4 players! lol
OK, that was colorful version and the one we would like to believe because it's funny, but according to SNOPES it is something less humorus... check it out.
