COME CLEAN SAYS CPAC
Alexandria, VA—The American Conservative Union, the nation’s leading conservative organization and host of the annual CPAC conference, today called on the liberal leadership in Congress to “come clean” over the bankrupt energy policies that have dramatically increased the cost of energy.
“The liberal leadership in Congress has opposed commonsense energy solutions for years,” said ACU Chairman David A. Keene. “Now, as Americans are paying higher prices at the pump, the liberals that run our Congress are scrambling to find ways to undo the havoc they helped wreak,” said Keene.
“Instead of facing up to their foibles, they are trying to follow the same old, tired playbook of taxing energy providers while promoting so-called alternative fuels that are not even currently commercially viable. These policies make things worse by driving up prices and reducing incentives for domestic energy production. They need to come clean with the American public,” he added.
ACU points to specific examples of where liberal leadership has failed the American people:
On May 25, 2006, the House passed a bill to authorize oil and gas production in ANWR—Pelosi voted no and liberals in the Senate killed it.
On June 7, 2006 the House voted to expand oil refinery construction—Pelosi voted no and liberals in the Senate killed it.
A few weeks later on June 29, 2006 the House voted to end the moratorium on offshore oil and natural gas exploration—Pelosi voted no yet again and liberals in the Senate killed it.
Larry Hart, Director of Government Relations for the American Conservative Union, added that as recently as May 13 of this year, the Senate attempted to create a comprehensive energy package to increase domestic oil and gas production only to see it defeated by the liberal leadership once again.
ACU Executive Vice President Dennis E. Whitfield said ACU will continue its push to mobilize grassroots support for a comprehensive energy policy with the following elements:
• No new energy taxes
• Prudent development of known U.S. energy reserves
• A rational permitting process that will allow the construction of new and modern refineries
• Long-term development of alternative sources of energy, including the expansion of nuclear power
“It is time to get real about a commonsense long-term energy policy in the U.S. We intend to hold the liberals in
Washington accountable for their inaction and hypocrisy,” added Whitfield.

I feel compelled to point out that we are operating under 7.5 years of BushCo energy policy. You want to snivel, that's what you snivel about.
The high gas price situation is very simple: diminishing supply plus increased demand (them Chinese want their SUVs too!), exacerbated to a degree by the destabilization of the Middle East (i. e., BushCo's Energy Policy).
Them wicked liberals have had control of the shop for a rip-snorting 18 months and have accomplished nothing in this regard. And if they take the White House and they'll have to deal with it, but it bloody well ain't no mess of their making.

It bloody well is and has been since the seventies. Restrictions, regulations, taxes and blocking of legislation that would offer relief is all of their making. And if 1/3 of them manage to hold enough sway, it will become their problem permanently...the little power mongers and control freaks!
The economy and the supply and price of oil have been good for most of the past 7.5 years despite the challenges to America that Bush has faced.
Sometimes I wonder, Libby...where ya been girl?

Tina, you contradict yourself ... and CPAC. Either recent energy policy is responsible for the current situation or it isn't. If it is, then BushCo's responsibility is, I'm sorry, just sort of incontravertible. The Repugs have had total control for most of the last eight years and, with the exception of the military aggression, have pretty much sat on their hands ... when anybody with half a brain could see it coming: the increased demand, diminished supply, and rising prices.
The fact is that no amount of external flailing around is going to fix this. It's for all us individuals to get a handle on. And those who will not exert themselves on their own initiative will have to be regulated up to it.

Nice try Libby but the "just blame the president for everything" game doesn't wash for informed people. The administration has cause in the matter and is willing to admit it, however, democrats play only the blame game and refuse to take any responsibility at all.
Both parties have contributed but the truth is "recent energy policy" is merely "old energy policy".
Please tell me what party gave birth to the notion that we cannot drill in ANWR or offshore? Which party is constantly sounding disaster alarms about global warming, an unproven theory? Which party embraces and applauds the brainwashing of the public including our children with movies like the totally bogus "Pocahontas" and Al Gore's book and GW movie?
When republicans passed legislation in the nineties to open ANWR to drilling it was vetoed by then president BILL Clinton...with Al Gore gleefully cheering in the background...his carbon credit scheme was by then waiting in the nest to be hatched.
As I said while republicans, including the Bush administration, have been willing to entertain and work toward "conservation goals" the democrats refuse to cooperate with any legislation that will bring relief to the people even when they are faced with a real, feel it in the bank account, crisis...even for the sake of a less energy dependent policy.
It is and has been democrats pushing the agenda of the global warming speculators that are responsible for shortages, high oil prices, and costly (and rediculous) mandated procedures, related products and services that also add to the cost of gasoline and other products.
Democrats are currently playing pure politics on this issue hoping to smear this administration to win a bigger majority and the presidency. They see themselves riding in on a white horse to save the day...at least in their own minds...with more taxes, regulation and maybe even the fascist takeover of the oil industry. Sadly their plan, particularly in today's climate of ongoing terror threats and emerging markets, will push us into a real depressed situation.
Libby they don't give a rip about you, the environment, or the people at large...it is all about their own political power...and control.
