Keep your eye on Bobby Jindal! He’s the very successful Republican governor of Louisiana who has gained the attention of his party in recent months by governing with courage, integrity and a steady conservative hand:
BATON ROUGE - Gov. Bobby Jindal announced today that he has vetoed the legislative pay raise. *** Lawmakers in the most recent session voted to raise their annual base salary from $16,800 to $37,500. The raise was to go into effect Tuesday. - Times-Picayune
One hears that state government in Louisiana, at all levels, is historically, traditionally, quite spectacularly corrupt. The issue got a lot of airing after Katrina.
And while good pay does not necessarily translate into vigilance and competence, I can see why the Governor wouldn't want to risk it.
I believe he also just signed a law that calls for the chemical castration of child rapists!

Correct Libby...that's why the success of Bobby Jindal who replaced the democrat is such a great story. He's cleaning up the state and receiving lots and lots of high fives from the public.
Good pays should follow good performance.
I hadn't heard that one Nick. Do you know if it's when the guilty person requests it? I know that several have and the law wouldn't allow it.
Well Libby the state has been controlled by democrats for its entire history, you'll have to give the young governor more time to root out the corruption.
It takes longer than a few months to correct years of liberal mismanagement, even for what appears to be a good conservative like Jindal.
I believe that Bobby said something to the effect that the US Constitution doesn't say anything about it, so neither should the Supreme Court.
Ill admit, that I heard this in passing, and have not completely ran down the information.
