70 MIL FIRE CAUSED BY SMOKER

An investigation by the Navy has concluded that a fire aboard a nuclear-powered carrier that caused $70 million in damages was caused by a crew member smoking in an unauthorized area. Here, crew members aboard the USS George Washington battle the May 22 fire.

Note: The offending sailor has been advised he could be liable for damages and his release date from the service depends on the payoff date. Let's see at $1733 mo. with 1/3 going for damages the sailor should be elgible for discharge in May...2190.
