Wanton Charges of Racism - UGLY and CHEAP

180px-Burning-cross2.jpegby Tina Grazier

Racism used to be associated with angry murdering thugs hiding like cowards under pointy hooded garments…now apparently all it takes is a vote for a different (non-black) candidate. Recent examples:

New York governor David Paterson recently suggested at the national meeting of the NAACP that an Obama loss is a racist victory.

Andrew Greeley says that black Americans (all, apparently) and the rest of the world will "scream racism" if Obama is defeated by John McCain. Greeley says that "Only the innocent and the naive think that the November election will not be about race."

Joe Klein “hinted” at racism in a blog post when he said Obama’s polling slump following his foreign travels might be associated with presumptuousness: “The emerging conventional wisdom seems to be that the trip is a bit too grand, too...presumptuous and voters are wary of that. (And presumption, of course, always comes with the subterranean tinge of racism.) Maybe so.

The ugly thing about these cheap shots at American voters is that most Americans abhor racism and believe legitimate charges should be taken very seriously. Comments like those above water down and lessen the nature of legitimate claims and demean those victims who make them honestly. Shame! The vast majority of Americans will choose their new president based on character, platform, and credentials.

Tina, once again you have hit the target dead center. This is about race. It's always been about race. From the moment Obama ran for his first office... it was about race.

He started in a [black] district and he rose to power using white guilt liberals. Obama has less than 200 days of experience as a Senator, so how else can you explain a presidential candidate with virtually no track record being elected to highest office in the world? Why do the crowds cheer when he says his Father was a goat herder from Kenya? Is it because people love goats or have a strong desire to see them herded or is it because his Father was black?

Tell me a white guy with exactly his credentials would be in this spot? It would never, ...never, .....NEVER happen.

Interestingly, my wife is the victim of harrassment by a Black, female co-worker. That woman's boss and the general manager are having to work overtime to document rather than just firing that black woman because they know she will sue.

Having been in management before my current career - the mindset that I have seen evolve (as in entitlement) is scary.

And, to think - some would call our discussion racist.

I call what my wife's co-worker is doing racist. She isn't even coy about it, but because of who she is, the corporation is afraid to fire her.

Aaron what you have described is a serious case of racism and color has nothing to do with it. The decision to document what is happening (times and dates included, diary fashion) is the best defense.

Power "tripping" is the real culprit, whether that power is achieved by attaining high office or wealth or is derived from a sense of entitlement.

Attitudes of hatred based on color may never change for some sorry souls but the ability to use that attitude powerfully against others has been made illegal in America and when valid cases occur we must do everything we can to expose them. A tip of the hat to your wife and her boss for having the good civic sense to do just that...even if survival and peace on the job is the main reason for doing so.

Jack, so far I've seen nothing from the right that is racist in nature (admittedly there might have been some I'm not aware of from extreme nuts on the right).

You're right about a left politic that seems obsessed with Barack Obama's color making it the center of nearly every ounce of promotion. The "event" of his run for president is presented as if no person of color has ever achieved anything of importance before...what an insult to Rosa Parks whose incredible bravery has to have been much more difficult and imposing than this rather ordinary run for president by a half white privileged graduate of Yale.

Obama enters the circle of potential greatness having had the really tough road graded and smoothed by many thousands who came before him. All of the civil rights activists and supporters stood on the shoulders of those who stepped out and declaredin essence, "I am equal" by their actions and deeds. They created a country not only of equality but also of acceptance, respect, honor, admiration...even adulation: Michael Jordan, Denzel Washington, Walter Williams and Thomas Sowell, Oprah, Clarence Thomas, Jackie Robinson, Ella Fitgerald, Colin Powell, Condi Rice, Louis Armstrong...and many more have enjoyed the benefit of these things.

Leftist elite (guilty) whites in the Democrat Party will fingerpoint at Republicans, turning themselves inside out to make us out as racists, but it is they who focus on race. It is they who see this as significant not for what the man has to offer but because of his color. Black Democrats that have been taught to turn race into a tool of intimidation will also be out in force missing the mark completely.

I wonder what hispanic Democrat voters think of this performance of "Camelot in the key of black"?

In this first ever event (a moment of historical significance but certainly not epical)...I'm just doing my best to get ahead of the onslaught to yell foul. He is a man. The important question should be is he qualified.
