British SAS to the Rescue!

More than 3,500 insurgents have been "taken off the streets of Baghdad" by the elite British force in a series of audacious "Black Ops" over the past two years.

It is understood that while the majority of the terrorists were captured, several hundred, who were mainly members of the organisation known as "al-Qa'eda in Iraq" have been killed by the SAS.

The SAS is part of a highly secretive unit called "Task Force Black" which also includes Delta Force, the US equivalent of the SAS.

The prime targets have been those intent on joining the wave of suicide car bombers that claimed around 3,000 lives a month in Baghdad at the height of the terrorist campaign in 2006.

But the success of the covert mission came at a price – six members of the SAS were killed and more than 30 were injured. Delta Force has suffered in the region of 20 per cent casualties.

A senior British officer told The Sunday Telegraph: "We took over 3,500 terrorists off the streets of Baghdad in around 18 months.

"You could say it was a very successful period. But the butcher's bill was high. The attrition rate is equivalent to that experienced by the SAS during the Malayan insurgency 50 years ago.

“The relationship between the SAS and Delta Force is very close,” he added. “If anything, the attrition rate in Delta Force is higher. Two years ago the SAS made a donation to Delta Force’s 'widows and orphans’ fund of £10,000.”

Recently the US has released about 11,000 Iraqi's from detention. It is estimated that another 17,000 remain in custody.

On other items of interest...US Security forces in Iraq have hundreds of names of people accused of links with special groups supported by Iran, including well-known politicians, sources in Iraq's interior ministry told Gulf News.

Last week's arrest of Ali Faisal Al Lami, a top Shiite Iraqi official who allegedly has ties with Iranian-backed militias is proof of the existence of such a list, the same sources explained. Al Lami is accused by the US of being behind a bomb attack that left four Americans and six Iraqis dead last June.

Asked about Al Lami's detention, the US authorities said that there were hundreds of wanted people, accused of cooperating with the Iranian Al Quds army, transferring funds to the special Shiite groups that were fighting US forces in Iraq.

The Palin Effect

Posted by Tina

Palin Closes Gender Gap…

“Sarah may do more than any person in modern history to close the gender gap, not only for Republicans but for conservatives. Unlike Hillary, who rode into Washington on the back of her husband, Sarah Palin created her own career. Unlike Hillary, who dwells within a small family focused on politics, Sarah has a big family and focuses on life. As a conservative, Sarah Palin sees life as more than politics, election campaigns and litigation. Her husband has a real job in the real economy. Sarah is athletic, animated, alive. Her family seems very real to us. She seems very real to us.” – Bruce Walker, American Thinker

The words “authentic” and “genuine” are being applied in large dollops. Sarah Palin is a strong, capable, “person”…nuff said.

Experience Counts! McCain Votes with His VP Choice...

Critics from both political parties having doubts about Sarah Palin have seized upon her limited experience. But what kind of experience are they talking about? Normally level headed pundits like Mort Kondracke and former Clintonites like Dee Dee Myers both seriously believe the experience that matters is time-in-grade accompanied by appearances on Meet-the-Press and face-offs with the Washington DC press corps. *** And the Obama campaign asserts with a straight face that Joe Biden's experience, nearly 40 years of Amtrak round trip ticket punching from Union Station to Wilmington, Delaware is of vice presidential grade, if not fully Oval Office timbre itself. *** Fortunately John McCain knows experience that matters means achieving something noteworthy, if not remarkable, requiring fearless leadership in execution. Traditionally a leader has been defined as someone who could harness the energy of people around him or her in order to do something monumental, undertaking considerable risk, where the outcome was uncertain: for example launch a new company, eradicate a disease, build a canal or a railroad, lead an expedition to and from Antarctica, land a man on the moon and return him safely to earth, win a battle or a war, or found a new nation. - Geoffrey P. Hunt, American Thinker

Apres Palin, Campaign Cash Rolls In…

THE gamble of putting a former small-town mayor with zero national security experience on the Republicans' US presidential ticket has paid off. The move has begun paying dividends by immediately re-energising the party's fundraising. Senator McCain's senior adviser, Steve Schmidt, said that on the day Governor Sarah Palin's selection was announced, the campaign had raised more than $US4 million over the internet in 24 hours, and since then...” - Herald Sun [Melbourne, AU]

So far the cash thing isn’t even in the US papers but it is positive evidence that her “experience” matters to Republican voters and others who appreciate her addition to the ticket...call it the Palin effect.

PC has Gone to Seed

Posted by Tina

Sacramento - Colusa County officials are defending their display at the California State Fair after a black couple complained that a caricature of a smiling watermelon seed was racist. The ''Waldo Watermelon Seed'' drawing was removed this week after the couple said the image evoked negative stereotypes about blacks. The exhibit was intended to celebrate Colusa County's seed-producing crops, which generate $30 million a year. – AP

The fruits of our efforts at inclusion have begun to rot…it’s time to end the PC nonsense.

Albright, an Appallingly Silly Woman

Posted by Tina

“Berlin - Former secretary of state Madeleine Albright has blasted the current US administration's handling of the Georgia crisis, saying her first move would have been to travel to Russia for talks. In an interview with the online service of German news weekly Der Spiegel on Sunday, Albright said she would have criticised the Russian military surge into Georgia and recognition of two Georgian rebel enclaves, but reassured Moscow over its security fears.” – Agence France-Presse

The arrogant Madam Albright implies Russia would crumble under her dazzeling diplomatic footwork…silly woman!

Meet Mr. Veep

capt_e5fb713a4ac040d4af008ecb7837d8f5_veepstakes_palin_ny114.jpegPosted by Tina

The AP reports that Todd Mitchell Palin is quite the man. He also happens to be quite the Mr. Mom and a great support for his wife Sarah. Is this the perfect modern family or what!

“Husband of Veep Choice is Snowmobile Racer,” by Rachel D’Oro

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - He's known as a doting, blue-collar husband who stands on the sidelines as his wife blazes a historic trail in politics. *** But Todd Mitchell Palin can claim accomplishments beyond his marriage to Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, the surprise running mate of Republican presidential hopeful John McCain. *** Todd Palin is a veteran oil-field worker and commercial fisherman affectionately dubbed Alaska's "first dude." He's a man who took college courses but does not have a degree, yet can hold his own in sophisticated circles, even hosting a reception for five former Alaska first ladies earlier this month. *** A father of five, he's also a four-time winner of the world's longest snowmobile race, billed as the most grueling. It's a sport the 43-year-old lifelong Alaskan is so passionate about that he's continued to compete even after his wife took office in December 2006. *** In this year's 2,000-mile Tesoro Iron Dog contest, Palin and racing partner Scott Davis were trying to defend their 2007 championship when Palin broke his arm in a crash. It was 400 miles from the finish line, but he refused to quit, coming in fourth, cheered on by the parka-clad governor waving a checkered flag.

My Pubbies are on a roll!

Conventional Wisdom

gustav_big.jpegBy Tina Grazier

Most of us have experienced one of those rare moments when everything is perfect, when events converge to create something unexpected and different…something so rare you just know it will never happen again and cannot possibly ever be duplicated. We may have an opportunity to witness just such an event next week when the Republican Convention takes place. Actually, it could go either way but one idea being considered may tip the scales toward the magical:

“GOP’s RNC ‘Cane Plan – Republicans Might Delay and Transform Convention,” by Carl Campanile

John McCain and the GOP are considering scrapping political speeches and turning their Minnesota convention into a "service program" to help victims of Hurricane Gustav, The Post has learned. *** The contingency plan - a worst-case scenario if the storm devastates Gulf Coast areas - would turn Republicans into Red Cross-type volunteers who would help collect donations, food and goods for storm victims. *** McCain's campaign motto is "Country First," and he said helping people during an emergency will take precedence over accepting the nomination. *** "It wouldn't be appropriate to have a festive occasion while a near-tragedy or a terrible challenge is presented in the form of a natural disaster," McCain told Fox News today.

Sarah Palin caused the left media to have a conniption fit …this might push them over the edge. Hey…it would be “out of the box” and oh so different. You could say it would represent quite a CHANGE from the same ol’, same ol’ convention.

Well, it’s an interesting proposition and one that could become quite an event for a very good cause.

And by the way…it seems that the local folks in New Orleans are better prepared this time.

In fact, reporting suggests that it was the local folks, and not GWB, that caused most of the suffering following Katrina (something we've known all along):

“New Orleans Residents Are Ordered to Flee Hurricane,” by Adam Nossiter and Shaila Dewan

Mayor C. Ray Nagin said Gustav was larger and more dangerous than Katrina, and pleaded with residents to get out or face enormous flooding and life-threatening winds. *** Most left by car, causing miles of backups on some highways, but New Orleans officials also began a far more carefully planned evacuation of the city’s less mobile residents than took place in 2005. Thousands of city residents began boarding buses and trains ferrying them to shelters in the north. *** “I don’t want to be stuck like I was in Katrina,” said Janice McElveen, who was waiting for a bus in the Irish Channel section, recalling being stranded on the Interstate 10 bridge for five days in 2005. *** In the Central City section, families, elderly people and the visibly infirm — those with wheelchairs and canes — lined the sidewalk along Dryades Street for half a long block, waiting for a bus. “After going through Katrina, that ain’t no joke,” said Jody Anderson, an unemployed former cashier, who spent seven days in the fetid conditions of the Superdome following that storm. “It’s not worth it, trying to stay.” *** In a mandatory evacuation of New Orleans, residents are not physically forced to leave, but are subject to arrest outside their houses. Officials have also warned that anyone who chooses to stay, as many jaded city residents are expected to do, will not be able to rely on public agencies for emergency assistance. *** Officials made an effort to soothe concerns about looting. Mr. Nagin noted that with 1,500 to 2,000 National Guard troops coming to New Orleans, the city would have twice as much law enforcement protection as it had in the days after Hurricane Katrina. In all, 7,000 members of the Louisiana National Guard were mobilized Friday. *** Jackie Clarkson, the president of the City Council, said the evacuation was proceeding more smoothly than any she had seen before. “We can save everybody this time,” Ms. Clarkson said. *** Some institutions — hospitals and nursing homes, where many died during Hurricane Katrina — were taking no chances, already ferrying patients north of the area on Friday.

Ray Nagin apparently learned something from Katrina…good for him.

The storm, Gustav, will likely be a big one…we pray the damage, especially in terms of human life and suffering, will not. Unfortunately it’s already killed 81 people in the Caribbean. Given these circumstances wisdom dictates that the Republican Convention take a back seat. If John McCain is true to his motto, “country first,” it will.

Storm of the Century...De Ja Vu?

by Jack Lee

gust.gif
There is currently strong indications that Hurricane Gustav will grow into a Cat-5 monster and this threat has forced over 1 million storm wearing residents living along the Gulf coast to seek higher ground.

The devastating aftermath of Katrina in 2005 is still fresh in the minds of many evacuees, especially those in the hardest hit areas of New Orleans where the damage can still be seen, where survivors still live in temporary trailer housing and the last thing they want to hear is another hurricane is headed their way! Before it was over Katrina claimed over 1800 lives and more than $130 billion dollars in property damage, making it the single most devastating weather event in US history...now another super storm is closing in that could be even worse.

nagin.jpgThis time New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin isn't taking any chances. He has issued a mandatory evacuation order and sent City workers door to door to make sure residents of the Big Easy got the message. They did - even before the official order came they were making for the highways hoping to get out before the expected traffic jam. Bus stations and train stations are filled to capacity unlike 2005 where many commercial carriers left half full.

Sustained winds of well over 140 mph shrieked across the western tip of Cuba's tobacco growing province, Isla de la Juventud. Telephone poles snapped, electrical wires flailed and sheets of corrugated tin sailed high into the air as 250,000 Cubans scrambled for shelter wherever they could. Rescue was all but impossible due to torrential rains, land slides and flash floods over washed out roads. Local civil defense said there were reports of many Injuries, but no death toll yet.

Gustav's winds reached the western edge of the island - huge mango trees were blow over and whole orchards were uprooted. Winds were reported to be accelerating over 150 mph as the eye wall touched the ocean. Now Gustav is taking aim on the US with a course that takes it right up the middle of oil rich Gulf of Mexico and across the unusually warm waters.

1d.gifGus.gif3d.gif3t.gifGustav will quickly draw energy from the warm sea water and it is expected to grow exponentially in both size and intensity until it reaches a monstrous Category 5 storm (over 156 mph winds). By moving across the warm water the low pressure of the eye causes the hurricane to draw energy from the heat in condensation.

It's still too early to tell exactly where the precocious Gustav will make landfall, but New Orleans is within the danger area predicted by forecasters. One thing is certain, another direct hit from a Cat 5 hurricane could be a disaster of Biblical proportions for the City New Orleans for now and perhaps decades to come.

Butte County Republican Chairman Answers Libby & Quentin

Libby,

With tax revenues of over $100 billion coming into the state, our state services should be adequately funded. Those revenues have increased over 30% in the last few years, yet I would guess people receiving those services have not seen their benefit increase that much. So the major question that needs to be answered is "where the heck is all the money going?"

Until the taxes we already pay can be totally accounted for, it is criminally irresponsible for the democrats to ask for tax increases.

Quentin,

I'm not sure why you would bring someone like myself into this conversation but I'll try to respond. You want to know what Republicans are doing about money in politics? OUR presidential nominee, John McCain, is probably the most ethical politician on this subject from either of the two major parties. Obama and the democrats talked about ethics and finance reform when they took Congress and then did nothing. Obama even voted against some of the reforms. McCain has actually passed campaign finance reform and fought for even more. We will be working to elect John McCain in Butte County.

Since you also made this a conversation about our local leaders, I'll say this: Don Perata is a crooked politician. He's being investigated by federal authorities for his practices. When he receives a large sum of money like this there will be a payback.

Our local Republican legislators are ethically straight people. They were elected into a crooked system but they are trying to improve things. That's hard to do in a fixed system where the democrats will always hold the majority. BTW, I believe the contribution Perata received went into the fund to fight against redistricting reform. Anyone who would fight that reform is not looking out for the voters' best interests.

Butte County Republican Party

Animal Rights Thugs

180px-MustelaVison001.jpegPosted by Tina

“Salt Lake City - Animal rights activists broke into a mink farm and released hundreds of the animals from their pens, police said. Lindsey McMullin said ''animal rights terrorists'' hit his South Jordan farm, about 18 miles south of Salt Lake City, the morning of Aug. 19 and released about 600 mink. *** Most of the mink were recovered, but several died after being hit by cars or from stress after they were returned to the farm, McMullin said. Others were dehydrated and lethargic.” - AP

Clearly it's not the animals they care about...it's being in love with "the cause" and the notion of "making a difference" about something "important" that tickles the fancy of these types.

Talk About Bad Parking! Check This Out.

It was Sunday afternoon about 2:20 p.m. and this young guy (early 20's) drives into McDonalds on Notre Dame in Chico and parks right in front of the entrance and walks inside. The way he does it makes me think he might be doing a stick up, but no he's in there to buy a meal to go. Why he didn't just pull into the drive thru I dunno. Anyway, if you click on the picture noted below you will see why he ticked me off! I just happened to have my digital camera and I thought I would post it in case he's your neighbor. Maybe the embarassment will cause him to clean up his act? View image I think he left the motor running too because I could hear his stereo blasting away while he was inside.

The Case of B.O. & A Few Missing Things

Posted by Jack

(How much do you really know about Barack Obama?)

columbo.jpgAh . . . Sorry to bother you Mr. Obama, Sir...

Excuse me Mr. Obama, I mean Senator Obama, sir. Um . . . know you are busy and important and stuff. I mean running for president is very important and . . . ah . . . I hate to bother you. I will only take a minute ok, sir?

See, I have these missing pieces that are holding me up, and I was wondering sir, if you could take time out of your busy schedule and help me out. You know, no big deal, just some loose ends and things.

Hey, you have a nice place here! The wife sees houses like this on TV all the time and says boy she wishes she had digs like this you know? Is that painting real? Really? Wow. I saw something like that in a museum once! Oh, sorry sir. I didn't mean to get off the track. So if you could just help me out a minute and give me some details, I will get right out of your way. I want to close this case and maybe take the wife to Coney Island or something. Ever been to Coney Island ? No, I didn't think so. . .

Well, listen, anyways, I can't seem to get some information I need to wrap this up. These things seem to either be "locked" or "not available'. I'm sure it's just some oversight or glitch or something, so if you could you tell me where these things are . . . I . . . I . . . have them written down here somewhere . . . oh wait. Sorry about the smears. It was raining out. I'll just read it to you.

Could you help me please find these things, sir?

Your Occidental College records, your Columbia College records, your Columbia Thesis paper that's missing too, uh, your Harvard College records..can't find those, your medical records, your Illinois State Senate records, your Illinois State Senate schedule, your Law practice client list and a certified copy of your original birth certificate and your embossed, signed paper Certification of Live Birth, we can't find that stuff...oh, and your Harvard Law Review articles that were published, your University of Chicago scholarly articles and your record of baptism...that's missing too. We did find your selective service registration, so that's not an issue.

Oh hey . . . listen! I know you are busy! Is this too much for you now? I mean tell you what. I will come back tomorrow. Give you some time to get these things together, you know? I mean, I know you are busy, so I will just let myself out. I will be back tomorrow. And the day after. . .

Meet Sarah Palin - All American Housewife & Your New Vice President?

by Jack Lee

palin.jpg You may have to go to the ends of the earth (aka Alaska) these days to find a relatively untainted, un-bought politician but I think McCain did it. She is the Governor of Alaska Sarah Palin. This lady's resume' looks almost too good, she's a self described Hockey mom, a devout Christian and she lives in a little town of about 7,000. Her husband is a rugged outdoorsman and blue collar oil worker. To the dismay of many democrats her surprise nomination as McCain's running mate has totally cut short the ga-ga, idol worshiping by the media following B.O.'s big speech.

Pundits had long been considering that a woman running mate for Barrack Obama would be the clincher for winning the presidency. Now McCain has that advantage and it makes Obama's choice of Joe Biden look dull, uninspired and worse, as something done to shore up Obama's obvious lack of experience. B.O. needs the women's vote desperately and women just aren't warming up to him like they did for Clinton. Old Joe Biden has

made 3 runs for White House and lost soundly each time. He's a Washington insider who was elected to the Senate at the age of 30 and stayed because he delivered for the special interests. Biden represents everything we shouldn't like about career politicians. Then suddenly from out of the wild blue, along comes Sarah to give him a run for his special interest money and it just may give those undecided women voters a new reason to support the McCain ticket!

Now a little about Gov. Palin:

First term governor of Alaska
Residence: Wasilla
Marital Status: Married (Todd)
Prev. Occupation: Public Official
Prev. Political Exp.: Wasilla City Council, 1992-96; Mayor of Wasilla, 1996-2002
Education: BS University of Idaho, 1987
Birthdate: 02/11/1964
Birthplace: Sandpoint, ID
Religion: Christian

It’s a McCain Palin Ticket

Posted by Tina

The 44-year-old Republican, Alaska's first female governor, arrived at the Capitol in 2006 on an ethics reform platform after defeating two former governors in the primary and general elections. Today, she was ready to leap to the national stage as GOP presidential candidate John McCain's surprise choice for running mate, according to two senior campaign officials who spoke on condition of anonymity because the announcement was pending. *** She already has a national reputation for bucking her party's establishment and Alaska's powerful oil industry back home. *** With ethics the centerpiece of her campaign, Palin defeated incumbent Gov. Frank Murkowski, who served 22 years in the U.S. Senate before winning the governor's seat in 2002. *** Her task didn't seem any easier in the general election, but she handily beat Tony Knowles, a popular Democrat who already served two terms as governor. *** During her first year in office, Palin distanced herself from the powerful old guard of the state Republican Party, even calling on Sen. Ted Stevens to explain to Alaskans why federal authorities were investigating him. *** Palin describes herself as a "hockey mom" and an occasional commercial fisherwoman. She lives in Wasilla, a town of 6,500 about 30 miles north of Anchorage, with her husband, Todd, a blue-collar North Slope oil worker who competes in the Iron Dog, a 1,900-mile snowmobile race. He is part Yup'ik Eskimo. – Houston Chronicle

Ex-Marine NOT GUILTY in Fallujah Incident

Posted by Tina

“Ex-Marine Acquitted in Iraq Killings,” by Chelsea J. Carter, AP

RIVERSIDE, Calif. — A former Marine accused of killing unarmed Iraqi detainees was acquitted of voluntary manslaughter Thursday in a first-of-its-kind federal trial. *** The jury took six hours to find Jose Luis Nazario Jr. not guilty of charges that he killed or caused others to kill four unarmed detainees on Nov. 9, 2004, in Fallujah, Iraq, during some of the fiercest fighting of the war. *** Thursday's verdict marks the first time a civilian jury has determined whether the alleged actions of a former military service member in combat violated the law of war. *** Wicken said the panel acquitted Nazario because there was not enough evidence against him. "I think you don't know what goes on in combat until you are in combat," she said. *** Prosecutors alleged that Nazario either killed or caused others to kill four unarmed Iraqi detainees in Fallujah during "Operation Phantom Fury," which resulted in house-to-house fighting. *** Nazario's attorney, Kevin McDermott, told jurors they could not convict the former Marine sergeant of an alleged crime in which there were no bodies, no identities and no forensics. He also argued that a guilty verdict would only make service members second-guess their actions in combat.

Republicans (and some Democrats) Take the Pledge

Posted by Tina

“GOP lawmakers put 'no new taxes' pledge in writing,” by Jim Sanders – Sacramento Bee

Don't read their lips when California's Republican lawmakers say 'no new taxes' – they've put it in writing, signed their names, essentially inviting their own party to oust them if they renege. *** Every GOP lawmaker except Fair Oaks Assemblyman Roger Niello has signed the "Taxpayer Protection Pledge" this year, casting a shadow on budget talks by making any vote to raise taxes a potential career killer. *** "If you break the pledge, the people who voted for you will say, 'Excuse me, not only did you raise my taxes but you lied to me,' " said Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform, in Washington, D.C., which conducts the pledge drive nationwide. *** The tax pledge, whose signers are publicized on the group's Web site, is a written promise to voters that "I will oppose and vote against any and all efforts to increase taxes." *** Opponents argue that such vows can torpedo budget talks by making the outcome intensely personal and hamper efforts to find tradeoffs in bridging the state's $15.2 billion deficit. (added link mine)

Personal? Trade offs? I don't know how a pledge to voters can make anything "personal" in debates or negotiations but as for the "tradeoff" remark...Republicans have learned that when dems ask for tradeoffs they expect Republicans to just give up and give in...Dems don't give an inch. I support the Republicans completely in being as stubborn as possible...we're talking gravity!

From the “Americans for Tax Reform” webpage (link above):

Since its rollout with the endorsement of President Reagan in 1986, the pledge has become de rigeur for Republicans seeking office, and is a necessity for Democrats running in Republican districts. Numbers in Congress are approaching 50% in each house. *** Today the Taxpayer Protection Pledge is offered to every candidate for state office and to all incumbents. More than 1,200 state officeholders, from state representative to governor, have signed the Pledge. Statehouse tax-and-spend interests have to contend with Pledge signers in every state.

WOW...50% in each house. That will throw a wrench in the works...we need more of this to press lawmakers toward more responsible oversight and management of out tax dollars.

On the site you will also find links to lists of those who broke the pledge, those who are big tax increasers, and pledge takers by state and at the federal level.

OBAMA IS FULL OF ALOHA

Posted by Jack

I may have to change my vote to Obama, I've just heard some startling revelations why Obama should be our next president. According to one of Hawaii's delegates to the DNC Obama is both wonderful and has the Aloha spirit.

There it is, two, (2) great qualities in one man, hallowed tho he may be, this is still really something incredible. He is "wonderful" AND filled with the "Aloha spirit!" As opposed to John McCain who may be wonderful in his own special way, but does he measure up with the "Aloha spirit"? Can we afford to take that chance? Emotion filled delegates say no! And these two things, being wonderful and filled with Aloha, above all else is why the Hawaiians love Obama. Well ain't that just ducky. This is deep stuff, really deep!

It was also alluded to by this lady that was both from Hawaii and of Hawaiian ancestry that ...

Obama, as a man of color, grew up in Hawaii which is a great mixed culture today of Chinese, Japanese, Samoans, Hawaiians even Caucasians, therefore he understands what it really means when it comes to racial tolerance.

That one statement suddenly jolted me back to reality! His racial tolerance is like the Hawaiian's???

It was this last part about Hawaiians and Hawaii being the big melting pot that knocked me right out of the saddle. True, many cultures are there, but I wouldn't call it a melting pot, far from it. Speaking as a former Kama Eina (that is Hawaiian for a local person), outside of Mississippi and parts of Alabama I found the Islands to be one of the most racist places on the face of the earth. Tourists probably wouldn't notice, but once you get behind the veneer of the phony smiles and live there you see a different Hawaii. They love your tourist dollars and they hate you as a white person. They then hate slightly less if you are Hispanic. Slightly less even more if you are an Indian, and it's gets better if you are Chinese finally you are almost tolerated if you are Japanese or from neighboring Islands.

Racist thought is a nasty lingering feeling behind almost every action and every word in the real Hawaiian culture. The have a real axe to grind with whitey. White's aka Haole's, rank on the very bottom in traditional Hawaiian society. Civil service hiring is blatantly racist in Hawaii. Elected officials are almost always elected by race. The law enforcement in Hawaii is very racist. The hiring is based more on race than qualifications, and I would say the Hawaiian law enforcement is probably the most racist I've ever seen, and I've a lot of law enforcements around the world. Hawaiian natives are treated best by government services because the services are mostly run by native Hawaiians or other people of color who more or less accept the Hawaiian's prejudices in order to get along with them. This is Obama's racial education? Oh, thats really great, well that sure explains a lot of his odd relationships.

If Elected Obama Won’t Dodge that War Thing

Bomb__Man.jpgPosted by Tina

We at Post Scripts have insisted that the next president, whether Democrat or Republican, will have to deal with the terror war being waged against us. If it’s Barack Obama he will find it necessary to confront terrorists despite fervent calls by fawning supporters to end “the war”. Apparently Obama and his parties leaders agree:

(CNSNews.com) - In his speech at the Democratic National Convention last night, Democratic vice presidential candidate Joe Biden highlighted Barack Obama’s plan to escalate U.S. military involvement in Afghanistan. ** Obama explained his plan in a July 14 op-ed in the New York Times, and in keeping with that plan, the Democratic platform approved by the delegates to Democratic National Convention this week included a statement saying the party was committed to increasing the U.S. troops in Afghanistan while drawing down, but not completely removing, U.S. troops from Iraq.

What is this...follow the leader? It's exactly what President Bush has indicated will happen in the next few weeks. Good golly...d'ya 'spose he's been right all along?

In the past few years we’ve heard a lot about our civil rights being violated by the Bush administration. In an effort to keep Americans safe from terror attacks like 9/11 procedures were put in place to monitor certain phone conversations without a court order. To my knowledge there hasn’t been a single complaint accusing the government of overstepping this power, yet the accusations and references to “Hitler” and “fascism” continue. Is it paranoia, politics…or just the way some people think? Consider the following:

“Does Obama support free speech or not?” Editorial by Staff, DC Examiner

Democrats such as Barack Obama are increasingly showing a disturbing eagerness to invoke the power of the state to silence critics. The latest example of this growing anti-First Amendment mentality is Obama’s heavy-handed response to a television ad by an independent nonprofit that raises some very basic questions about the Illinois senator’s relationship with William Ayers, the unrepentant 1960s terrorist bomber. *** Obama’s campaign has encouraged supporters to flood television stations with protests whenever they see the ad. Nothing wrong with that, but the other thrust of the Obama response was to ask the Justice Department to intervene to stop further airing of the ad. That’s where Obama crossed the line and raised a question of fundamental importance — does he or does he not believe the First Amendment’s guarantee of freedom of speech?

Obama is a lawyer trained in Constitutional Law…right? Unh huh…so is he just a “hot head,” is he arrogant, copying the Janet Reno model…or is that just how HE (THEY) thinks?

Bush was acting to protect Americans...the only one Obama is trying to protect is himself.

How do you like our new large print in black? I think most of our audience is approaching that age where we need readers and the gray font type was just too small and didn't have enough contrast. Kinda made it hard to read, but not anymore!

Perata Committee Gets $577,000 Donation from Prison Guards

posted by Jack

Don Perata a key figure in holdling up the state's budget just picked up a whopping $577,000 campaign contribution for a committee that he controls. The big bucks came from the State's Prison Guard Association and they coincidentally just happen to expect a big fat pay raise real soon. That's how the game is played folks and guess when you get tired of it you will demand some changes. Till then it's corruption and payoffs.

"For CCPOA to be trying to buy off Senator Perata so they will get a huge pay increase is appalling," Jeannine English, AARP

Council Chambers Icy Cold

by Jack Lee

As temperatures approach the century mark today maybe you should stop by Chico City Council Chambers and cool off, it's icy cold in there. Least it was last night when we had our meeting from 7 pm till about 8:30 pm. We all wondered what the thermostat was set at? It felt like it must have been about 65 degrees! But, what the heck...it's just taxpayer's money and Chico is really fat these days, right?

Mexican National Caught Starting California Fires

By Jack Lee

You'll love this one. The cops busted an illegal alien starting a forest fire in Mendocino County. Turns out a helicopter pilot dumping water on another fire spotted a man in camo clothing (good eye) and watched him set a fire. The pilot suspended his water drop activity and called in police while he kept watch. And how illegal was he? This arsonist was also a pot grower and he was lighting fires to divert attention away from his crop...imagine that, a marijuana garden in Mendocino county?

He was not alone either, but so far his crime partners haven't been caught.

Mexican nationals growing pot in our forests is a big problem and it's getting worse. Typically these guys are heavily armed and work for drug cartels back in Mexico. They have no qualms about firing at you or at law enforcement. Think about that next time you see somebody advocating open borders or claiming imigrants aren't criminals. Our prisons are filled with so-called undocumented imigrants who are major criminals!

Healthcare Under President Obama

by Jack Lee

Obama wants healthcare for all, so that means we will capture those 47,000,000 (47 mil) currrently without any health insurance. What he doesn't say is that out of those 47 million uninsured, 10 million are illegals. Can you imagine the impact this would have on California where most illegals reside? Now remember, the final call on whether you get that life saving operation is going to be government, not your doc, and what happens when the system is overloaded? They ration. I don't want government to be making my medical decisions and I don't want to stand in long lines or be denied by a pencil pusher, do you?

New Report – Solar Activity & Climate Change

Posted by Tina

“New Report Calls into Question ‘Man-Made’ Climate Change,” by Kevin Mooney, CNSNews.com

New scientific evidence suggests there is a stronger link between solar activity and climate trends on Earth than there is with greenhouse gases, Fred Singer, an atmospheric and space physicist, told CNSNews.com. *** The new data call into question whether scientific evidence shows that global warming is a man-made phenomenon and suggests that natural forces, as opposed to human activity, may drive global climate change.

The report, “Nature, Not Human Activity Rules the Climate,” has helped open the way for scientists to perform meaningful research in areas that have been largely unexplored and under-emphasized in previous studies, Singer said in the interview. *** For example, he said, there are research efforts now underway that set about to examine the connection between cosmic rays and cloud formation presumed in the sun-climate theory. *** This is the kind of scientific endeavor that has gone missing in government studies that assume human activity predominates over natural influences, Singer continued. Although it was long assumed that the sun was a constant star, one that did not experience any variability (changes) in its irradiance, this has turned out not to be the case. *** To the extent that it does look at solar variability at all, which is limited, the U.N.’s International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has been “disingenuous” in its approach to solar variability by virtue of focusing on relatively minute solar cycle changes that overlook cosmic rays, the Singer report suggests. *** There are some significant solar changes involving solar wind, for instance, that have ramifications for Earth’s climate, which are de-emphasized in the IPPC studies, he said. *** “By disregarding or ignoring the very much larger changes of solar ultraviolet or of the solar wind and its magnetic-field effect on cosmic rays and thus on cloud coverage, the IPCC has managed to trivialize the climate effects of solar variability,” Singer’s non-government report states. *** Moreover, there is large separation between the “fingerprints” of global warming that researchers can actually observe in the atmosphere and the “fingerprints” predicted by scientific models, Singer said. Any warming that follows from greenhouse gases would appear in the form of warming that increases with altitude, his report explains. *** However, the observations derived from satellites and balloons actually show “no increasing warming, but a slight cooling with altitude” in the zone of the atmosphere where greenhouse gas theories anticipate warming, Singer said. *** The U.N.’s (IPPC) authors avoided “connecting the dots” and making the appropriate observations, despite having all the necessary data because the end result would run counter to their mission, Singer suggested.

U.S. Oil Companies Win One

19011.jpegPosted by Tina

As you read this story keep in mind the recent democrat claim that oil companies have not drilled on lands where they currently hold leases.

“US drillers to get $1bn court award,” by Sheila McNulty in Houston – FinancialTimes.com (UK)

A US federal appeals court ruled yesterday that 11 oil and gas companies should receive more than $1bn awarded to them in 2006 after the government effectively changed the terms of leases to drill off the California coast. *** The US Court of Appeals was upholding a 2006 ruling that the government had breached the leases when changes in federal law materially interfered with the companies' efforts to develop the oil and gas reserves off California. *** The case points to the difficulties US oil and gas companies have developing oil and gas resources in the US. *** Even when acreage is legally open to production, restrictive regulations about how properties can be developed have made it impossible for companies to follow through. *** The US government had estimated the area contained more than 1bn barrels of oil equivalent.

Meanwhile there’s news out of Santa Barbara:

LOS ANGELES – The Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors considered a measure Tuesday that would support offshore oil drilling, decades after an infamous 1969 oil spill coated the coastline and spawned the modern environmental movement. While the board has no power to approve new drilling, officials debated whether to send a letter asking Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to change state policy and allow oil exploration and extraction in the county. - AP

Home Prices Still Headed South - Glimmer of Hope

Home prices are improving in some parts of the country but still falling sharply in hard-hit places like Phoenix, as the weak housing market and shaky consumer confidence continue to weigh on the battered U.S. economy.

On a monthly basis, home-price declines in the nation's largest cities slowed in June, according to the S&P/Case-Shiller home price indexes released Tuesday. Prices dipped 0.6% on average from the month before after falling by 1% in May. The June performance was a marked improvement from monthly drops of 2% to 2.5% that occurred earlier this year.

But prices are still much lower than they were a year ago. Home prices in 10 major metropolitan areas in June fell 17% from the year before, though the declines appear to be moderating. The broader 20-city index showed similar patterns. A separate gauge of home prices by the Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight, which covers more of the country but only tracks mortgages backed by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, found home prices were unchanged in June from the month before.

Nine of the 20 metropolitan areas tracked by the S&P/Case-Shiller index posted monthly price gains in June. They included Denver, where prices grew 1.5%, and Boston, where prices rose 1.2%. Phoenix, meanwhile, was the worst performer last month; prices fell 2.6%. Prices also fell sharply in Miami, Las Vegas and Los Angeles.

Movies and Popcorn and Bears…Oh My!

180px-Bear_cub.jpegPosted by Tina

This story is out of Canada where an enterprising movie theater owner found a great solution to a big problem:

“Bear this place in mind,” by John Goddard –The Star, Kinmount, Ontario

The problem with running a movie house in the woods is that black bears smell the popcorn. *** "They're not stupid," says Keith Stata, owner of an eccentric cinema complex in the wilds of cottage country. "If on a busy night we pump 50 pounds of popcorn through the machine, they get interested." *** Stata likes bears, or at least is prepared to coexist with them. *** When he built his first 60-seat public movie theatre onto the back of his house in 1979, he knew he was building in bear country. His property off Highway 121 at Kinmount, where the Kawartha Lakes meet the Haliburton Highlands, is heavily forested, with berries and apple trees all around. *** When he added a second theatre in 1986 and extended the parking lot into the trees, he became even more aware of an ursine presence. *** "One night, I went to open the door (to leave) and a bear was leaning against the door," he says. *** Stata got an idea. Instead of drawing bears to the popcorn, he would serve popcorn to the bears. He would make extra popcorn and drop it once a week with an 18-kilogram bag of dog food some distance away in the woods. *** A few years ago, when a mother and two cubs moved to the area, he increased the dog food to two bags a week. Now with only one bear regularly in the area, he is back to one. *** "They're really cute to watch but I don't go looking for them and I don't make friends with them," he says of the key to living with bears.

Glutathione A Medical Miracle or Quackery?

Posted by Jack

There is scientific evidence indicating that Glutathione plays an important role in cellular vitality and retarding the aging process, but studies are still ongoing, although encouraging. L-Glutamine, an amino acide can be used with Alpha Lipoic Acid and NAC to increase Glutathione levels in the body. Interestingly brain glutathione levels have been found to be lower in

patients with Parkinson's disease. Glutathione deficiency contributes to oxidative stress, which plays a key role in aging and the worsening of many diseases including Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, liver disease, cystic fibrosis, sickle cell anemia, AIDS, cancer, heart attack, and diabetes. In theory raising the Glutathione levels may provide some relief to these pathologies.

It is interesting to note that Polyphenolic extract from pine bark has been used to treat children suffering from ADHD. It works by increasing the level of Glutathione. Pycnolgenol is sold over the counter. It contains oligomeric proanthocyanidins (OPCs) as well as several other bioflavonoids: catechin, epicatechin, phenolic fruit acids (such as ferulic acid and caffeic acid), and taxifolin. Procyanidins are oligometric catechins found at high concentrations in red wine, grapes, cocoa, cranberries, apples, and some supplements such as Pycnogenol®.

The concentration of glutathione declines naturally with age and is pronounced in some age-related diseases. Polyphenols and glutathione synthesis regulation.Am J Clin Nutr. 2005 Jan;81(1 Suppl):277S-283S.

Labor in Victoria, where the cars will be built, has conceded a ''current hole'' in the nation's recycling policies means there is no capacity to environmentally dispose of the nickel-metal hydride car batteries from the 10,000 hybrid cars to be produced by Toyota every year from the start of 2010. - The Australian (Sidney)

Geesh…people! Floooowwww…if there's a problem someone will find a way to solve it...and I assure you the solution will mean a lot more than will filling in loopholes in legislation! Solutions happen quite naturally if you just trust the process. Hence the expression, "What a great idea!"

Increasing Brain Power!

im.jpg
Answer on second page.

You use different parts of your brain for normal tasks and for new, interesting tasks. Even after a few minutes of performing certain tasks, your brain becomes accustomed to it. For example, close your eyes and touch your arm.

You will certainly feel that, but keep your finger there for a few moments. Eventually your sense of touch becomes accustomed to the feeling of your arm and no longer reports it to your brain; you will no longer feel anything. The same thing happens for all your senses (which is why you can't tell when your own breath smells bad!)

The brain thirsts for novel experiences. Unique experiences activate different parts of the brain, strengthen your synapses and pump up the production of neurotrophins. So, break up your routines and try something new.

The trick is do work your brain in different ways, keep it active and avoid going to autopilot!

Next brain tip...Start carrying a small notebook and pen in your pocket and whenever you have an idea, write it down. Try not to censor your silly ideas, because it's the silly ideas that frequently have a nugget of genius buried inside. If you are diligent about doing this for a few days, you'll be amazed at how many ideas you have every day that you forget because you never capture them on paper. From time to time you can go back and review your ideas to find the good ones. Pretty soon, you'll have more ideas than you know what to do with.

Quiz answer: If you quickly said A and C we know you are smarter than average! Good going.

MOB EXPECTED AT DNC - DENVER

Posted by Jack

Latest estimates, over 100,000 crazies will be decending upon Denver to grab some camera attention during the DNC, CNN said they will gladly oblige. About 25,000 democrats will be attending the actual convention.

With a crowd of about 1,000 protesters massing on Auraria Boulevard, directly in front of the Pepsi Center in Denver, Secret Service and local police locked down the security perimeter about 12:30 p.m. MT, shutting down the only access point for media and most staff to get into or out of the site.

Anti-war protesters -- carrying signs reading "Send Them Home," "No War on Iran," and "Do-Nothing Democrats" -- marched in front of the convention site while police in full riot gear -- many displaying their weapons -- looked on in a tense scene.

Several protesters taunted police by waving cameras in their faces or yelling, "Police state," but no clashes erupted. While the scene remained painful in front of the main entrance, at least two protesters were arrested several blocks away.

One was told he was being arrested for having his face covered with a black scarf on convention grounds, and another was placed into custody for not cooperating with police after coming to the first protester's defense. Both were placed in plastic handcuffs and escorted to a police van.

SOME BANKS FAILING - ARE YOU INSURED?

Posted by Jack

If you have over 100k in the bank...that overage is not insured.

The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. was appointed receiver of Columbian Bank of Topeka, Kan., which had $752 million in assets and $622 million in deposits as of June 30.

The FDIC said the bank's deposits will be assumed by Citizens Bank and Trust of Chillicothe, Mo. Its nine offices will reopen Monday as branches of Citizens Bank. Depositors of Columbian Bank will continue to have full access to their deposits, the agency said.

It was the ninth failure this year of an FDIC-insured bank.

That compares with three failures in all of 2007. More banks are in danger of failing this year, agency officials have said.

The FDIC estimated the resolution of Columbian Bank will cost the deposit insurance fund around $60 million.
Regular deposit accounts are insured up to $100,000.

There was about $46 million in uninsured deposits held in 610 accounts at Columbian Bank that potentially exceeded the insurance limit, the FDIC said.

WAR IN IRAQ JUSTIFIED!

“The US was fully justified to use military force against Iraq, even knowing what we know now -- especially knowing what we know now.” - Randall Hoven

IraqTerrorLinkuntitled.jpg

Collin Powel’s photo evidence gallery

Posted by Tina

“Bush lied, people died.” Is there anyone in the world that hasn’t heard this dishonorable anti-war slogan? Is there an enemy around the world that hasn’t been gratified and encouraged by these four words? The words are little more than a slogan, yet they have had the power to create doubt and uncertainty for Americans and for others around the world who look to us for leadership and help. They send a message of doubt and distrust about our president and create a conflicting message about a war that George Bush has repeatedly said was key in the greater fight against terrorism worldwide.

Creating doubt was in fact the intent of anti-war democrats and it has become the legacy of the Democrat Party during the Bush years.

As we look toward November it’s important for all Americans to know the truth about the anti war rhetoric and to resolve whatever doubts we may have so we can feel confident as we move forward. A divided America is a much weaker America. Supporters of the war, and our president, have already resolved these issues and feel that America did the right thing. Many Democrats seem to be living happily with the “Bush lied” legacy (and will live with it for a long time into the future). But…what about those who are really unsure and tired of the bickering? For them the questions remain…is the "Bush lied" premise true? Are the many accusations laid at the feet of President Bush and his administration about going to war in Iraq accurate?

Randall Hoven has some excellent answers in his piece, “Who Lied About Iraq?” posted at the American Thinker. He begins by addressing the “before” question:

Our invasion of Iraq was not based on a public relations drive; it was based on Public Law 107-243,
otherwise known as the Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Iraq, passed by the 107th Congress in October of 2002 .
(Herein referred to as the "Authorization".) It passed the House with a vote of 296 to 133 (by 69%) and the Senate with a vote of 77 to 23 (by 77%), including 58% of Senate Democrats. In short, it was overwhelming; it was bipartisan; and it was law. *** Did the Authorization try to "prove that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction"? Was that proved false? *** No and no. *** The Authorization has 23 "whereas" clauses, or reasons to justify military invasion, only some of which mention WMD. Here is a prime example. "Whereas the efforts of international weapons inspectors, United States intelligence agencies, and Iraqi defectors led to the discovery that Iraq had large stockpiles of chemical weapons and a large scale biological weapons program, and that Iraq had an advanced nuclear weapons development program that was much closer to producing a nuclear weapon than intelligence reporting had previously indicated." [Emphasis added.] *** There are several things to notice in that clause. First is the tense of the verb "had." The clause does not claim that Iraq has WMD now (in 2002), but that it at one time had them. Secondly, the only stockpiles mentioned are of chemical weapons. Of biological and nuclear weapons it mentions only programs. At no place does the Authorization say that any WMD are current (post-1991).

Mr. Hoven goes on to carefully enumerate the many reasons for going to war prior to invasion, what was found after invasion, and investigations following invasion including one that resulted in a report filed by Chairman of the Democrat controlled Senate Intelligence Committee, J. D Rockefeller which found several Iraq-al Qaida links.

"One of the reported contacts [between Iraq and al-Qa'ida before the war] has been confirmed, and two other meetings have since been identified."

The article is fact filled and well written. I strongly urge anyone with doubts, or anyone who is just interested, to read the entire article. You might learn something very useful before heading to the poles.

P.S. Vote wisely…this ones important.

When you turn into whats left of your drive way you may have some questions. Not to worry, I have all the people you are supposed to contact: The Bomb Squad and Home Land Security ask that you call them first. The good news is I have a friend who runs a construction company and he said he would like to use your new hole to dump some fill. I figured since you are going to need about 6000 yards anyway this would be very helpful. Did you drive both cars on vacation, I hope? Hmmm...probably not, uh, well... the fire department found a Rolls Royce hood ornament embedded in the oak tree next door, uh, are you driving your fancy R/R or your old Honda, just curious?

You just keep having a good time and don't worry about it, I'm sure it will all work out, except for replacing your neighbors cat, that might be tough. Have a nice time…oh, an no need to rush home...really....there is no need. Enjoy!"

THEY'RE BA-ACK... Protestors at the DNC

march.jpg
Over a thousand professional protestors were bused in from various radical pro-communist, anti-American groups from across the country. They represented a myriad of political agendas from open borders to anarchy. Anti-war was of course the false pretext that brought them all together once again.

68_01.jpg"Re-create 68" and other protest groups said months ago they would occupy Civic Center in violation of the host committee permit. Re-create 68's Larry Hales says early threats to take Civic Center were meant to start a dialogue. It started a dialog alright, and the police said they would not have a repeat of the 1968 DNC that sparked so much anarchy and violence.

The police were not in the mood to hear, "No cops, no KKK, no fascist USA!" "No cops, no KKK, no fascist USA!" "No cops, no KKK, no fascist USA!" ...a chant that lasted all the way to the Pepsi Center for their rally. The cops kept a close watch on the crowd and were fully prepared to stop anyone crossing the line to incite a riot.

Of course Cindy Sheehan showed up trying to get support for her election bid. Sheehan addressed a small group of supporters when she said, ""Neither Republicans nor Democrats represent the people." "They've taken away more of our freedoms. It's now easier to spy on us. " "This convention is sponsored by AT&T. What does that tell you?" she said to wild cheers. It tells me that AT&T paid the City of Denver for the rights to advertise their name at the convention center, what else? Sheenhan goes on to shout, "Denver has partnered with the Democrats to create a fascist police state. Now we have free speech in cages. We are not animals!" Free speech in cages, huh? I think she's on crack. Anyway to summarize her 30 minute fist pounding tirade she said some other incredibly stupid and incomprehensible things before her audiance of mostly bums and winos wandered off to drink or beg for some spare change.

flagsalute.jpgSection 594 of the National Defense Authorization Act, which was signed into law as Public Law 110-181 on Jan. 28, allows veterans out of uniform to salute the flag.

Section 9 of Title 4, United States Code, was amended by striking "all persons present" and all that follows through the end of the section, and inserted the following: "All persons present in uniform should render the military salute. Members of the Armed Forces and veterans who are present but not in uniform may render the military salute. All other persons present should face the flag and stand at attention with their right hand over their heart, or if applicable, remove their headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart. Citizens of other countries who are present should stand at attention. All such conduct toward the flag in a moving column should be rendered at the moment the flag passes."

Bravo and Stand Firm Minority Leader Villines!

“Hasta La Vista, Arnold” - WSJ Political Diary

Some things never change in the Golden State. Seven weeks into the fiscal year, California still has no budget and faces a Pacific Ocean-sized $15 billion deficit. On Wednesday, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger offered a "compromise" plan that kicks the legs out from his own party with a big new sales tax increase. "It's time to put ideology aside," he insisted. *** Now he faces a revolt from Republicans in the legislature who think this is precisely the time to be ideological. "Any tax increase plan won't pass with Republican votes -- absolutely not," a defiant Mike Villines, minority leader of the state assembly, told me shortly after the governor's scheme was announced. Mr. Schwarzenegger wants to raise the sales tax by one percentage point, which in jurisdictions like Los Angeles would raise the total sales levy to 10% -- one of the highest in the nation. "It will hurt the state and hurt people on fixed incomes," Mr. Villines protests. *** He and his colleagues offer their own solution. First, no new taxes in a state that already has nearly the highest income and sales tax burden in the country. Second, a "hard" budget cap that limits spending increases to the rate of inflation plus population growth.

THE YEAR 1908

This will boggle your mind, I know it did mine! The year is 1908. One hundred years ago. What a difference a century makes! Here are some statistics for the USA for the Year 1908 :

The average life expectancy was 47 years. Only 14 percent of the homes had a bathtub. Only 8 percent of the homes had a telephone.

There were only 8,000 cars and only 144 miles Of paved roads.

The maximum speed limit in most cities was 10 mph.

The tallest structure in the world was the Eiffel Tower!

The average wage in 1908 was 22 cents per hour.

The average worker made between $200 and $400 per year.

A competent accountant could expect to earn $2000 per year, A dentist $2,500 per year, a veterinarian between $1,500 and $4,000 per year, and a mechanical engineer about $5,000 per year.

More than 95 percent of all births took place at HOME .

Ninety percent of all doctors had NO COLLEGE EDUCATION! Instead, they attended so-called medical schools, many of which were condemned in the press AND the government as 'substandard. '

Sugar cost four cents a pound. Eggs were fourteen cents a dozen. Coffee was fifteen cents a pound. Most women only washed their hair once a month, and used Borax or egg yolks for shampoo. Canada passed a law that prohibited poor people from entering into their country for any reason.

Five leading causes of death were:

1. Pneumonia and influenza
2. Tuberculosis
3. Diarrhea
4. Heart disease
5. Stroke

The American flag had 45 stars. The population of Las Vegas , Nevada, was only 30!!!! Crossword puzzles, canned beer, and ice tea hadn't been invented yet.

There was no Mother's Day or Father's Day. Two out of every 10 adults couldn't read or write. Only 6 percent of all Americans had graduated from high school.

Marijuana, heroin, and morphine were all available over the counter at the local corner drugstores. Back then pharmacists said, 'Heroin clears the complexion, gives buoyancy to the mind, regulates the stomach and bowels, and is, in fact, a perfect guardian of health.'

Eighteen percent of households had at least one full-time servant or domestic help.

There were about 230 reported murders in the ENTIRE U.S.A.!

Try to imagine what it may be like in another 100 years.

IT STAGGERS THE MIND!!!!!!!!!!!

Media Reacts to Biden Pick

Posted by Tina

BAGHDAD - Senator Joe Biden may be one of the only U.S. politicians that can get Iraq's feuding Sunni, Shi'ite and Kurdish politicians to agree. But not in a good way. *** Across racial and religious boundaries, Iraqi politicians on Saturday bemoaned Democratic presidential contender Barack Obama's choice of running mate, known in Iraq as the author of a 2006 plan to divide the country into ethnic and sectarian enclaves. *** "This choice of Biden is disappointing, because he is the creator of the idea of dividing Iraq," Salih al-Mutlaq, head of National Dialogue, one of the main Sunni Arab blocs in parliament, told Reuters. *** "We rejected his proposal when he announced it, and we still reject it. Dividing the communities and land in such a way would only lead to new fighting between people over resources and borders. Iraq cannot survive unless it is unified, and dividing it would keep the problems alive for a long time." - REUTERS

DENVER - The candidate of change went with the status quo. In picking Sen. Joe Biden to be his running mate, Barack Obama sought to shore up his weakness—inexperience in office and on foreign policy—rather than underscore his strength as a new-generation candidate defying political conventions. *** The picks say something profound about Obama: For all his self-confidence, the 47-year-old Illinois senator worried that he couldn't beat Republican John McCain... - AP

To wrap things up, here’s a line from Mr. Obama’s introduction: “I know that Joe Biden will give us some real straight talk.” In those few words, he expressed the hope of the Democrats that they can take this fight to the Republicans, and that’s what Mr. Biden represents. It helps, of course, that he has foreign policy credentials and is an easy-going, blue-collar kind of guy, not to mention Catholic... - NYT

Sen. Barack Obama's selection of Sen. Joe Biden as his running mate gives Obama immediate foreign-policy gravitas with a dependable party stalwart. But picking Biden, D-Del., also sends a stark signal that the Obama campaign is worried that the presidential nominee is in danger of flunking the commander-in-chief test. Rather than helping with the electoral map... - ABC News

When it came to choosing a running-mate, Barack Obama turned out to be one of those experience-conscious “3 a.m.” voters who tended to support Hillary Clinton in the primaries. He went with the long-serving senator with the most foreign-policy experience he could find, Joe Biden, who has been marinating in the Senate for no less than 35 years. - National Review

You may remember Delaware Senator Joe Biden from political blockbusters of the past such as, “The Clarence Thomas Hearings,” the “1988 Presidential Campaign,” or “The Clean And The Articulate.” Now he’s back for his greatest role as Barack Obama’s vice presidential running mate. *** Obama’s decision to select a politician who has served in the United States Senate for 35 years to be his vice presidential running mate shows just how dramatically the political ground has shifted in the two short months since the Illinois senator wrapped up the Democratic nomination based on a message of changing the way politics works in Washington. The “change” candidate has found the need for some “inside the Beltway experience” after all. - CBS News

The vice presidential candidate currently chairs the Senate's Foreign Relations Committee, a post that Obama hopes will compensate for his own lack of experience in the global realm. *** Biden is a firm supporter of Israel, but the way he sees the U.S.'s role in the Middle East doesn't necessarily reflect Jerusalem's ideal of the ideal "American partner." *** When it comes to the Iranian threat, it is not clear that the Obama-Biden combo will raise smiles in Jerusalem. Biden's past remarks have sparked criticism and have been described as "inconsistent." Biden has said more than once that he does not think that isolating Iran is the most efficient way to combat the Islamic republic's nuclear ambitions, and he has even urged sensitivity to Iran's needs. He met with a senior Iranian official in Davos, which led his detractors to say that he was willing to negotiate with an extremist regime that supports terrorism. On the other hand, Biden has proclaimed that a nuclear Iran was "unacceptable." -
Haaretz (Israel)

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid was quick to praise the newly minted Democratic vice presidential running mate today, issuing a glowing statement of support for his Democratic colleague. “Joe Biden has been fighting his entire career for the change that Sen. Obama champions,” Reid said. - Politico

Gee, "fighting his entire career" for the change Obama champions...doesn't that make him (and all them Dems) ineffectual, incompetent or just plain wrong? Hey, I didn't say it, Harry Reid said it.

Just goes to show that the change we've all been waIting for is just more of the same.

There's a mighty good chance that over the next few weeks the media will make these two their darlings. I hope you will remember all of what they had to say day...and please, vote wisely in November.

World War II Aircraft Japan v U.S.

by Jack Lee

This is pretty neat stuff...

Corsair-1.jpgAre you a little bit of a history buff... like WWII details? I made a side by side comparison. just for fun. between two fighters that squared off in the Pacific. Japan's most modern fighter was the Nakajima Ki-43 - the earlier version was the Zero (A6M2) while America had the Wildcat which was quickly replaced by the much meaner F4U Corsair. When you look at the stats between them the Corsair was hands down the best fighter of the bunch. Why Japan continued to produce their fighters without significant upgrades is still a mystery. But, if you read the book, "Zero Fighter" you might have

(Check out the stats and see some nifty pics...)

some clues. The Japanese military had a very rigid hierarchy and there was not a lot of tolerance for "free thinkers" unless it was at the high command level. Unlike the Ameircan fighters, the Japanese fighters had no self sealing fuel tanks, so when a fuel tank was hit by incendiary rounds it just exploded in flames. They also had no armor for the pilot, not that armor would have mattered all that much if you were on fire!

When the Zero (A6M2) first entered service it was a holy terror, but then again it was basically pitted against American planes built in the 1930's like the Brewster Buffalo (Pee shooter) which was unfit for combat almost before it came off the assembly line and certainly by the time WWII broke out. It was a real turkey and I really can't think of anything good to say about it. Why it was built must have something to with corruption somewhere. The Navy's next plane was far better but still not up to the standards of Japan's planes. This was the Wildcat, which was neither very wild nor cat-like. It was just sturdy and slow. When our military finally got its act together and came out with the F4U Corsair they had a real winner!

Side by side comparison two of WWII best fighters in the Pacific

Japan - Nakajima Ki-43-Iia …………. USA - F4U Corsair
Engine Type radial …………………… Engine Type radial
Max HP 980 ………………………… Max HP 2000 to 2460
Max spd 308 MPH @13,000 ft. ……. Max spd 446 MPH sea level
Cruise 199 MPH @ 8000 ft ………… Cruise 215 MPH sea level
Max ceiling 38,500 …………………… Max ceiling 41,500
Operational weight 4,515 ……………. Operational weight 14,670
Wing span 37 ft. 6.2 inches ………… Wing span 40 ft. 10 inches
Length 28’ 11” ………………………… Length 33 ft. 8 inches.

Range 1118 with external fuel tanks… Range 1,015 miles
Total built 5919 ………………………….Total built 12,500

* Japan added a couple of 20 mm cannons, but they didn't carry much ammo so it was still under-gunned. The strength of the Type O, although not in the class of the A6M2 or I-16, an Oscar could turn inside of any other contemporary plane. It's obvious weaknesses was durability: As with most Japanese fighters, the Oscar is easily downed by enemy gunfire.

F4U - Corsair... what a beautiful powerful and heavily armed fighter planespec_f4u.jpg

Japans most prolific and arguably it's best fighter in WW2, the famous "Zero"....

Nakajima Type O or Oscar was the newest and ultimate Japanese fighter, although many Japanese pilots still prefered the venerable Zero.

One MORE pic of the Nakajima...it was truly a sleek looking plane in it's day and had a number of variations.

The Brewster Buffalo...Brewster.jpg

There were two books authored about the worst planes of WWII, and the old Brewster had a full chapter in both of them! lol

"The Royal Air Force fobbed it onto the Fleet Air Arm and colonial squadrons; the U.S. Navy gave it to the Marines. Pilots thought it was a sweet plane to fly, but noticed that the wheel struts sometimes broke, the engine leaked oil, and the guns sometimes didn't fire. And when they flew it against the nimble fighters of Japan, too often they didn't come back. " Dan Ford

Here's a story about the Brewster by Dan Ford...

"The Buffalo's problems began with its manufacturer. In 1932, an aeronautical engineer named James Work paid $30,000 for the aircraft division of Brewster & Co., a firm that over the years had built horse-drawn buggies, auto bodies, and aircraft assemblies, but now did little more than represent Rolls-Royce in the United States. Jimmy Work was a balding man with soulful eyes, a gentle smile, and a good suit. You might have picked him to manage your retirement account--probably not the best idea you'd ever have. Serving as president of Brewster Aeronautical, he hired himself as a consultant and leased a factory from himself. Double-dipping in this fashion, he landed contracts for seaplane floats and wing panels, mostly for the Grumman company. But what he really wanted to do was build planes on his own account.

Enter Dayton Brown. In a photo taken a few years later, when the Navy visited Brewster in an attempt to straighten out the mess Jimmy Work had made of it, the aircraft designer towers over the men around him. Brown's arms are folded, he wears a double-breasted suit and a skeptical expression, and he has little more hair than the man who hired him.

As Brewster's first product, Brown drew a slender, mid-wing dive bomber with retractable wheels and an enclosed bomb-bay. This was wonderful stuff for 1934, and the U.S. Navy bought the rights to build it as its first carrier-based monoplane. That was a nice compliment to Brewster Aeronautical, but didn't advance its hopes of becoming a force in the airframe industry.

Brown redrew his plane as a two-seat fighter, then a one-seater. Among other innovations, it had a semi-bubble canopy, giving the pilot a clear view to the rear. The Navy liked the sketch enough to start a development project for the F2A (fighter, second, Brewster).

Grumman was more conventional. Its F4F had the canopy faired into the rear fuselage, to protect the pilot if the plane flipped over. (Dayton Brown provided a roll bar behind the seat for this purpose.) And the F4F was a biplane, since two wings mean shorter wings, so more planes could be stowed on deck.

But this was 1936, the trend was toward the sleeker monoplane, and Brewster got the nod. Grumman promptly took one wing off its fighter and created what history would know as the Wildcat. Apart from its "turtleback," the F4F-2 looked rather like the Brewster fighter. Each carried one wing at midpoint on the fuselage, each had a short nose (so the pilot could see the deck in front of him), and each was distinctly plump. This was especially true of the Brewster fighter, whose engine was larger around than the Wildcat's.

Ah, that engine! Airframe manufacture was nearly a cottage industry in the 1930s, with machinists hand-crafting parts and seamstresses sewing fabric onto control surfaces. The cost of entry was so small that the United States had twenty companies turning out a dozen or so warplanes each year, but only two providers of air-cooled radial engines powerful enough for combat. Grumman designed its Wildcat around the Pratt & Whitney Twin Wasp, consisting of one seven-cylinder radial engine mounted behind another, plus a two-stage supercharger to ram the fuel-air mixture into them. Brewster opted for the Wright Cyclone, an older design with one row of cylinders. It had a one-stage supercharger, and its 950 takeoff horsepower fell to 750 hp at 15,000 feet. Early Cyclones--those supplied for the Brewster fighter--also had lubrication problems.

There was also a design flaw in the Brewster fighter. If the pilot set it down hard--and hard landings are the norm on an aircraft carrier--the main wheel strut sometimes buckled, two inches below its pivot point on the wing.

These problems weren't apparent in 1938, when the Navy tested the Brewster and Grumman prototypes. The F2A handled like a sports car, the F4F-2 like a pickup truck, and the Cyclone seemed a safer bet than the complicated Twin Wasp. Brewster got the contract: 54 planes. It delivered one in May 1939, another in July, and a third in October. The pace picked up after that, but at year-end the Navy still had only 11 Brewsters, not quite enough to equip its first monoplane fighter squadron, VF-3 on the carrier Saratoga.

The factory was a major bottleneck--an old automobile plant in urban Queens, across the East River from Manhattan. Parts were manufactured on four stories, brought together by freight elevator, assembled, then taken apart so the plane could be trucked out to Long Island's Roosevelt Field (now a shopping mall) and there reassembled for flight-testing.

Grumman meanwhile installed a 1,200 hp Twin Wasp in the third variant of its fighter, the F4F-3. Brooding over the slow pace of deliveries from Brewster, the Navy decided to hedge its bets by ordering 54 of the up-engined Wildcats in August 1939.

One month later, Germany attacked Poland from the west while the Soviet Union invaded from the east. The Russians then turned on Finland, which to many Americans was a more heinous crime. I can remember my father arguing that "Little Finland" had repaid its World War I debt, unlike larger and richer countries, and therefore deserved our help in this new travail. The State Department evidently agreed, for it asked the Navy to release the rest of its Brewsters in exchange for a more powerful model the following year.

As required by the "Neutrality Act," Brewster modified the F2A by replacing its government-supplied engine, gun sight, and direction finder with export-approved equipment. It took out the life raft and arresting hook, and doubled the firepower by installing two half-inch machine guns in the wings. (Like most American fighters of the time, the F2A had two nose-mounted machine guns, synchronized to fire through the propeller arc.) Lastly, it painted out Felix, the bomb-carrying cartoon cat that was the mascot of VF-3. The company produced 44 of these "de-navalized" fighters under the designation B-239.

To test them, Brewster hired a former Navy pilot named Robert Winston. "This ship was a pilot's dream," Winston recalled in a wartime memoir, Aces Wild. He praised its cockpit layout, power ("the two-ton airplane left the ground like a skyrocket"), and stability.

The B-239s went by boat to Norway, then by train to Sweden, where they were assembled by Norwegian air force mechanics under the supervision of Brewster engineers. The Americans didn't lack for smokes or news of the Brooklyn Dodgers: their buddies in Queens had stuffed the wing panels with cigarettes, magazines, and newspapers.

In February 1940, Lt. Joppe Karhunen came over from Finland to test the first Brewster. He burned out the engine, crashed on a snow-covered field, and damaged the propeller and some plexiglass belly panels. (Like many Navy planes, the Brewster had a view window under the pilot's feet.) Robert Winston reached Sweden a few days later. Finding the Finns disenchanted with their new acquisition, Winston set up a mock dogfight with an open-cockpit Fiat Freccia from Italy.

The Fiat was faster in level flight, but the Brewster could turn in a smaller radius, allowing Winston to get on the Italian's tail and stay there until the other pilot fled the battle. "Mycket bra!" Karhunen shouted when Winston landed--very good! "Mycket damn bra!"

Alas, the "Winter War" ended in March 1940 with the Soviet Union occupying southeastern Finland, before any Brewsters reached the front.

Dayton Brown had now fitted his fighter with a 1,200 hp Wright Cyclone. This was the improved model for which the U.S. Navy had released its planes to Finland. The F2A-2 had a top speed of 340 mph and a range of 1,600 miles--longer legs than any other fighter in the world.

As allies of Poland, Britain and France declared war on Germany but took no real action, thereby giving Adolf Hitler the privilege of choosing the next battlefield. Fearing that he would take the easy route through the "low countries," Belgium bought 40 Brewster fighters from Alfred and Ignacio Miranda, who had previously sold arms to Bolivia, Japan, and Spain. Once again, the U.S. Navy found itself obliged to yield up its Brewsters to a small European nation.

The result was the B-339. Unfortunately, German Ju-87 Stuka dive bombers reached Belgium before it did. France took over the order, only to surrender in its turn before the planes arrived. Britain then acquired the Brewsters. The Royal Air Force assigned them to 71 Squadron, made up of Americans who had volunteered to fly for Britain.

The Yanks put the B-339 through its paces at Church Fenton in Yorkshire. Squadron Leader Walter Churchill (a Dutch-born Englishman with seven German planes to his credit, and no kin to the war-time prime minister) complained that the fighter had no armor plate and not enough guns. Worse yet, its fuel tanks were built into the wings, and the wings into the fuselage, so that a single bullet-hole could require a major rebuild. The tail wheel wobbled. The clock had no trip indicator, so the pilot couldn't tell when to switch fuel tanks. "On no account," Churchill concluded, "should this type be considered as a fighter without considerable modification." However, it would make a dandy trainer: "It behaves with the ease of a Gladiator [biplane] and is just as simple to aerobat. So far we have found no vices."

So 71 Squadron used the Belgian B-339s as trainers. A few went to the Fleet Air Arm in the Mediterranean, to serve with 805 Squadron on the beleaguered island of Crete. "A delight to fly--very maneuverable," Squadron Leader Alan Black said of the Brewster. "It would have been an excellent fighter but the guns could not be fired." The problem, Black thought, lay in frayed electrical wires in the mechanism that synchronized the nose guns with the propeller.

Only one B-339 ever set out on a combat mission, flown by a former Member of Parliament named Rupert Brabner. He turned back when the engine sounded rough, lost power before reaching the runway, and flipped the Brewster onto its back. Dayton Brown's roll bar did its job, and the former MP survived. The plane did not: with the rest of 805 Squadron's Brewsters, it was captured when German paratroopers seized Crete in May 1941.

Like them or not, the British ordered 170 more B-339s to their own specifications. They couldn't build enough Hurricanes and Spitfires to defend their far-flung colonies. Anyhow, in March 1941 Congress passed the Lend-Lease act, and for all practical purposes the American warplanes were free of charge.

Lend-Lease posed a problem for Brewster Aeronautical. Accustomed to up-front money from foreigners, it now had to wait for the U.S. government to pay. This embarrassment was followed by others. For their arms deals in Bolivia, the Miranda brothers were sent to the Federal penitentiary at Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. And the Navy eased Jimmy Work out of the presidency, hoping to speed up production by installing a Naval Academy graduate named George Chapline.

The RAF had a tradition of fierce alliteratives: Hawker Hurricane, Gloster Gladiator, Vickers Vildebeest. It christened the B-339 "Buffalo," a name so apt that it was soon applied to all models of the Brewster fighter. Thanks to the modifications demanded by the RAF, it weighed 900 pounds more than the equivalent F2A-2. Speed dropped, along with climb rate, service ceiling, and maneuverability. To make matters worse, Brewster shipped some of the British B-339s with Wright Cyclones cannibalized from the TWA passenger fleet.

The British had a triage system for allocating warplanes, reserving the Spitfire for home defense, sending the Hurricane and the Curtiss Tomahawk (P-40, in U.S. Army service) to North Africa, and exiling the Buffalo to Southeast Asia. This was not the best place for it, to judge by the comments of test pilot Eric Brown: "Delightful maneuverability. Above 10,000 ft. labors badly. Oil and cylinder head temperatures high in temperate climates." If the Cyclone overheated in Britain, how would it fare in the tropics?

No matter! "Buffaloes are quite enough for Malaya," said Sir Robert Brooke-Popham in Singapore, five days before Japan proved him wrong. It was an article of faith in the west that the Japanese could neither build decent warplanes nor fly them effectively. "

Terror Study Dispels Common Myth

Posted by Tina

One of the common themes used to discredit George Bush and the war in Iraq is that it caused an increase in terror activity around the world. Now a study out of Canada debunks that claim. I thought you should know about it since it's unlikely we'll hear much about it in the news:

“Studies dispel myths about war's impact” – Mobile Register

Armed with government statistics showing a big increase in terrorist attacks since 2002, Democrats routinely assert that President Bush ignited a firestorm of terrorism throughout the Muslim world when he sent troops into Iraq. The claim and the statistics are used to illustrate what Democrats see as the foolishness of the president's belief that toppling Saddam Hussein's regime would reduce instability in the Middle East and eliminate a major potential source of terrorism. *** A survey released in May by a Canadian university proves that the statistics paint a distorted picture of terrorism outside the borders of Iraq. *** Fareed Zakaria, a columnist for Newsweek, praised Simon Fraser University for producing "a well-researched, independent analysis of the data relating to terrorism." The analysis shows that, excluding civilian casualties in Iraq, deaths caused by terrorism have declined by more than 40 percent since 2001. *** It "makes no sense" to count civilian casualties in a war zone as deaths caused by terrorism, Mr. Zakaria wrote. Since the mid-1990s, thousands of civilians have been killed in war zones in other countries around the world, and those victims weren't counted as casualties related to terrorism. *** Perhaps the most telling statistic is the 65 percent decline in terrorist attacks since 2004. Al-Qaida-initiated attacks peaked in 2004, but Osama bin Laden and his followers haven't been able to sustain the carnage. *** The Simon Fraser study attributes the sharp decrease in terrorist attacks to effective counterterrorism operations, discord among the jihadists and an "extraordinary drop in support for Islamist terror organizations in the Muslim world over the past five years." *** This dramatic shift in opinion destroys partisan claims that President Bush's policies have turned millions of moderates in Muslim countries into al-Qaida sympathizers.

Want to see some of my girl’s pictures from Europe? Becky has been traveling extensively from Switzerland to Spain while living and working aboard a fantastic yacht as a senior crew member. Her boat was birthed in Florida,

but it was loaded aboard a transport ship and dropped in the Med. Beck flew over to meet the boat and her new crew.

Now a little bit about Becky. She is a graduate from Chico High and skipping over her formal education for the sake of brevity she currently she holds two captains licenses, one in the US Coast Guard and one through the British Admiralty. She's crewed aboard 8 large yachts of 120 feet or more over the last 10 years and has seen the world in a way only the fortunate few will ever see.

Most of her yachting has been in the Caribbean with a recent trip to Panama where she met some of the stars for the new James Bond movie while they were on location. Currently she will be island hoping in the Mediterranean for the next 6 months, the only downside is she wishes she had more days off to tour.

I hope you enjoy her slide show. http://www.photodex.com/sharing/viewalbum.html?bm=165193

How To Increase Your IQ - It really works!!!

Want to know four easy steps that will help you increase your IQ? Read on...

STEP 1

Describe different words aloud

The Vocabulary subtest measures “the degree to which one has learned, been able to comprehend and verbally express vocabulary.” In short, it seeks to measure your ability to express yourself in terms of the accuracy and economy of your expressive vocabulary. Since this is largely based on prior knowledge and experience, it is said to measure your crystallized intelligence.

To increase your IQ, draw words from a dictionary and describe them as though you were speaking to someone with a reasonable amount of knowledge about the world, but very little understanding of it. For example, if you land on the word “clarinet,” a poor description would be
