Mumbai Attack Had Several Motives
by Jack Lee
(Taj Hotel caught fire during attack) Their professed goal was the issue of sovereignty for Kashmir, however their more obvious goal was creating chaos, conflict and fomenting hate between Pakistan and India. This is their MO and it has been for years in countries around the world. This is what radicalized Muslims do.
Killing tourists does not advance independence for Kashmir; those tourists had nothing to do with local politics and it’s doubtful any of the half dozen American tourists that were targeted could even find Kashmir on the map. But, they were Americans and for no other reason this made them targets. The captured terrorists showed no remorse as they talked freely about killing civilians for in their eyes the victims were already damned souls, virtually sub-human and killing them was not a crime according to their interpretation of the Q'ran.
The attack has been somewhat successful because it has already begun to strain the relations between Pakistan and India. It's disrupted Pakistan’s efforts to root out terrorist camps in its mountainous regions along the border with Afghanistan and that no doubt also played a big part in this bloody rampage.
The surviving terrorists claimed they trained for months inside Pakistan before the attack in Mumbai that left 183 people dead in a 3 day siege. Indian authorities believe as many as 15 participated, however only 10 have been accounted for.
In a rare act of outspoken definace, Muslims living in Mumbai do not want the dead terrorists buried in their local cemeteries. They say their violent actions do not reflect their Muslim views of peace and they do not believe they were true Muslims.

"...has already begun to strain the relations between Pakistan and India."
Dude, where have you been? India and Pakistan have been at odds ever since Pakistan was created. In fact, Pakistan WAS created because them Hindus and Muslims simply cannot stand each other. This is old, old, old business.
We must simply hope that they forbear to nuke each other ... nuked as they are.
And on to other things ....

Yes Libby, relations between these two countries have been difficult from the inception of Pakistan. However, if you're up to speed on the news, then you know that more recently the two nations have been working more closely than ever on issues of mutual concern. In particular, the Islamic terrorists that have been causing them much trouble.

Yes, but you go on like "islamic terrorism" is all of a piece ... and it's not. The squabble over Kashmir has been running ever since Pakistan was partitioned. The Kasmiris and AQs may buy their grenades from the same source (and that's really where we want to be spending resources ... damned Belgians or Swiss or Texans or whatever), but that's all they have in common.

No it's not Libby and I said so. There are sub-issues, there will always be sub-issues, but don't fall for the Kashmire sovereignty excuse!
This was just the pretext for targeting innocent civilians (aka infidels). You have to ask yourself why target tourists, especially Jewish and American tourists?
They had nothing to do with Kashmire! The answer is too obvious, but you seem to have missed it. It's because THEY HATE US! THEY WANT US DEAD! THAT INCLUDES YOU LIBBY, THEY WANT YOU DEAD BECAUSE OF YOUR BELIEFS! Good grief, don't you get it yet? How many innocent American citizens, men, women and children must die at the hands of Islamic terrorists before it registers with you????
The overall unifying force for Islamic terrorism is a zealot-like belief that the Nation of Islam should rule over the world's population and all non-believers should die...period, end of story.

"a zealot-like belief"
Such a simple concept and yet so many just refuse to get it.
They have no trouble at all understanding Hitlers dream...at least he wanted to live...Islamic zealots will gladly die or sacrifice their own children for their perverse cause.

One minute you are pitching fits over the tragic consequences of war and the next you're wishing nukes on innocents along with the bad guys. You don't appreciate those, like Nick, who try to defend innocent people and defeat those bad guys, yet you hope the bad guys are able to successfully use a nuke...I don't get it.

"THEY HATE US! THEY WANT US DEAD! THAT INCLUDES YOU LIBBY, THEY WANT YOU DEAD BECAUSE OF YOUR BELIEFS! ..."
No, these particular bad boys want Kashmir to be part of Pakistan, not India. That would be why they went on the rampage in India ... and targeting foreigners was soley and simply to get more attention for the rampage. Very cynical. And you should not let them get you into a tizzy. That's why they did it, you know ... (among other things) ... to get you into a tizzy.

Muhamed: Brother Muslims Kashmir must no longer be defiled by the infidels from India. We want Kashmire to belong to Pakistan!
Ali: Yes, good idea! We want Kashmir to belong to Pakistan, but how should we do this? Should we take a vote? Should we petition the Pakistani government? Should we petition the Indian government? Perhaps we should revolt? Oh, what should we do great leader?
Muhamed: The answer is simple. We should do what we alway do, for every problem we have, lets go kill some innocent Americans. It won't change anything, but we'll feel better.
Ali: Oh, that is a most excellent idea, why didn't I think of that? Now, where did I put my machine gun...

For heaven's sake, such ignorance. If the citizens of Kashmir were allowed to vote, it would join Pakistan tomorrow ... the population being predominantly Muslim. It is a part of India because it is (or was) a big money-maker, tourism-wise. (I wouldn't set foot in the place, which is exactly what all this tourist bombing has set out to accomplish.)
As is the case in Turkey, and all over Africa and Asia, minority populations deeply resent having their resources syphoned off in the service of majority populations ... that treat them crappy into the bargain. When that stops, the bombings will stop.

Libby by your logic you have just made a case for Republicans to start blowing up tourists in Sacramento! lol

Libby: "...minority populations deeply resent having their resources syphoned off in the service of majority populations"
By whom? Americans pay for the resources that come from other countries. If the leaders of those countries "syphone off" the wealth that our purchases create then their resentment should be directed at them.
You, and other Americans like you, are only too happy to blame America which provides them the perfect excuse to behave like murderous thugs. Those people would be suffering whether we bought the product derived from their resources or not because they live under tyrants and dictators.

You think you're being facetious, but you're not. The fact is that the fundamentalist conservatives of Sacramento are too g**da**ed well off to even think of such a thing.
Abortion will always be legal. Gay civil unions will abide. But as long as our reactionary brethren have work ... and the means to support churches and schools of their own, there will be no machine-gunning in the streets.
The Muslims of Kashmir ... that's another story.
This is the thing, boy. This is the very, very, very big thing. This, Lord help us all, is what makes America great. And our new President has no intention of meddling with any of it.
Except maybe those polygamist Mormans. The multiple wives should, at least, be of age.
God Bless America. Tee Hee.
